Can't configure AEBS

I upgraded to 7.4 and now when I try to access the AEBS thru Airport Utility I keep getting:
'An Error Occurred While Trying to Read The Configuration
Make sure your Apple wireless device is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again. (-5)'
I have unplugged and replugged in the AEBS twice to restart but the same message appears.
Thoughts?

Does this thread help?

  • Help....can't configure AEBS

Have tried repeatedly to set up AEBS to connect both my iMac G5 and iMac G4 wirelessly to internet via my DSL modem and ethernet connection. Both have built in Airport Extreme cards.....both show in System Profiler....and have established computer-to-computer connection, so both cards are working.
I have reset the AEBS and have also disconnected everything for days in frustration and in hopes it would return to factory default setting.
Steps I have taken so far:
    1) I connected power to AEBS.......light is steady;
    2) Turned off and disconnected ethernet cable from my iMac and connected it to the WAN port on AEBS; turned modem back on...both port lights on either side of AEBS power light blink for a few seconds then go out;
    3) Opened Airport Setup Asst.; selected Set up new AEBS...none found. Selected Change settings on existing network (I had diddled with this last week and thought I'd configured an AEBS network). It found the name of the network I tried to create earlier (I can't get rid of this and start over); I continued...was asked for keychain permission; said yes; meanwhile..."joining network..." is still searching....as is 'color wheel'......no AEBS found; scan again.....same thing....."error occured connecting..." because there's nothing to select and connect to. It's not finding the AEBS.
    4) Opened Airport Admin Util...try Rescan...nothing; try Other....get 10.0.1.1; asks for password.....doesn't seem to care what Iput in...scans....with color wheel; then "unable to read config of selected (Other) base station".
    5) Network settings are:Automatic, Show-Airport (shows the network I set up before); Airport selected; configure IPv4 automatically; using DHCP, apply now. Tried setting it to PPPoE but it won't allow and resets to DHCP.
I have repeated these steps; read the manual that came with it; read the Discussions that I could find; reset; rebooted; even, via Pacifist, reinstalled Airport Setup Asst. and Airport Admin Util. No change.......but old network name still reappears as soon as AEBS is reconnected...despite App reinstall and default AEBS settings!!.
Don't know why, but I believe the AEBS is working. Even after turning off Airport on iMac, the AEBS port lights occasionally blink as if searching. Iknow the AE cards are working....but I'm doing something wrong. Can someone please help me? Thanks.
iMac G5, 20 (Rev. A); 1.8 GHz; 233 GB; 2 GB Crucial   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Virtual PC for Mac & Windows XP Prof. in iMac; also have iBook G4, 10.4.7; AEBS

Well some progress has been made. I have Airport Setup Assistant configured; and Admin Utility......I think. It recognizes the base station but I still can't connect to the Internet. The status report in Network Diagnostics says everything is 'green' except: Internet failed and Server failed. I've shut down and pulled the plug on the modem and shut down the computer for a few minutes, then reconnected power to the modem and restarted it, then booted the computer, hoping it was the modem.
I got info on IP, Subnet Mask and Gateway addresses from my ISP but that's all he knows about Macs. I was on the phone with the AppleCare Tech for an hour and a half trying everything right from scratch but still nothing. He said I didn't need those addresses. We had a power outage while talking to him. He called me back but I couldn't continue until the power came back. I've been working for two hours since then and everything seems to be a 'go' except the connection.
I'll check tomorrow with my ISP to see if I need a DHCP Client ID, but
could it be a setting in Network or Sharing Preferences? Or in the Admin Utility Config selections I've made? There are so many choices within Airport...Internet...Network...WDS!!!
Any further suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks.

  • Can't configure AEBS 802.11g

    Hey there All,
I've got an AEBS 802.11g. I had it running at my church with a secured network and life was good. A couple of weeks ago,  the "Windows" guy plugged a PC into the ethernet port on the AEBS and then the network freaked out. I couldn't connect to the network I'd set up using my MacBook, the Mac(17" FP G4)I have at church or my iPod Touch. I was finally able to re-set it and have it located with the default configuration but, It shows a yellow/amber dot in the Airport Utility sidebar, configuration fails and shows error -6754. Any ideas on what might have happened? Did the Windows box/software damage my Base Station?
    Thanks.

It's highly unlikely that just connecting a Windows-based device can "damage" the base station, but of course, it is always possible that the base station's configuration was altered to render it non-workable.
I would suggest starting by performing a "factory default" reset on the 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS). This should get the AEBS in the same configuration it was in when first removed from the box. This would mean the AEBS would provide an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name of something like Apple Network NNNNNN.
Once verified, that you can connect to the AEBS, either by wire or wireless, you can then use the AirPort Utility to reconfigure it as needed.

  • Can't see AEB or AE when VPNed

I encountered a problem where I can't admin my AEB or use AirTunes on my LAN when I am VPNed in to work. I already had to download and use the old Airport Admin Utility and turn IPv6 config Off just to be able to connect to the devices to admin. I can admin the AEB and use AirTunes just fine when I am not VPNed, but AirTunes totally drops out when I am VPNed.
Is this an issue with my company's VPN policies or is there something I can configure on my side to get both to work simultaneously? The VPN client we use is Cisco AnyConnect, and there are no settings in the thin client UI that I could find.
    Thanks in advance!

Is this an issue with my company's VPN policies or is there something I can configure on my side to get both to work simultaneously?
This is most likely with the VPN connection type setting for your VPN client. Some clients provide a number of different connection types. Most typically, "tunneled" or "split-tunnel." With the "tunneled" mode all traffic goes through the VPN, and this sounds like what your Cisco client is defaulted at. Try to see if you have other options in creating your VPN connection to work.

  • Can't configure Basestation v 5.6

Using software ver. 4.2 and BaseStation V 5.6 and booted from 10.4.2. Trying to configure the BaseStation causes Airport Admin Utility to hang and must force quit. This is a different partition than I used to set up the BaseStation. Can it only be configured while booted on the partition that I used to set it up, or can any machine with the passwords configure it? The original partition was 10.4.0 with software ver 4.1.1 and BaseStation V 5.6 and it works without a problem.

Thank for your reply Henry. But
I can only configure my Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS) while logged in to the partition from which I set it up. I have tried all software versions both OS ( 10.4.0 and 10.4.2) and Airport (4.1.1 and 4.2) from several different partitions and the AirPort Admin Utility either hangs or won't accept my correct password. The AEBS version is 5.6. The software on the partition that will configure it is Airport 4.1.1. with OS 10.4.0.
All partitions recognize the Airport network and access my ISP without any problems.
Has anyone used AirPort Admin Utility to configure the AEBS V 5.6 from any partition other than the one that it was setup from?

  • Can I configure an external drive to be password protected or do I need to buy an external hard drive already password enabled

I asked at a Hong Kong apple shop if they had password protected external drives.  They didn't, I bought one anyway.
I'm wondering can I configure this drive.  If yes, what do I need to do?

This looks like the easiest and most direct method and since it uses Disk Utility it would work on any OS.

I moved to iCloud, and so far it looks like everything is where it's supposed to be. My question is about syncing. When I delete an email on my Mac, iCloud restores it. How can I configure iCloud so that changes I make on my Mac and my iPhone stay changed?

On the Mac in System Preferences > iCloud
Make sure Mail & Notes is selected.
ON the iPhone tap Settings > iCloud
Make sure Mail is switched on.
And try restarting your Mac and iPhone.

  • How can I configure my new Mac Pro to output the timeline via HDMI

How can I configure my new Mac Pro to output the timeline in FCP 7 (yes, I have X, but I'm using 7 right now). I have two monitors running from TB2, but want to have the third for a client monitor.
If I use all three via TB2, it's literally three monitors, and I want to edit on my CineDisplay. I only want the client to see the timeline video on the third monitor. When I hook up HDMI I get no signal, in fact, I can't have the HDMI cable hooked up for TB2 to work with the third.

If you use all ThunderBolt displays, or stick with DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort (free conversion between the two with only a cheap cable) you can have up to six displays.
If you attach "legacy" displays with "any-old adapter", you can have up to two, and the built-in HDMI counts as one if you use it.
    Any more requires ACTIVE Adapters.
The US$100 Apple ACTIVE Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter works in every case, even displays over 1920 wide.
StarTech and Accell make US$35 ACTIVE adpters that work for displays up to 1920 wide.

How can I configure printer with iPad to print only grey tones? This works fine from my laptop - not air printing from that one though.  I can't find anywhere on the iPad how to do printer settings and this also seems not to be available as an option when doing a printout.  In fact, no options seem to be available.  Thanks in advance for reacting!

There is currently no option for this. You can give Apple feedback here:

  • How can I configure ReFS to NOT fail read operations when a checksum error is detected (on non-Storage-Spaces volumes where data integrity streams are enabled)?

According to William Stanek, in his Windows Server 2012 R2 Inside Out: Configuration, Storage & Essentials book, this is apparently possible: (pg. 615 - here it is on Google Books: https://books.google.ca/books?id=0IyfBAAAQBAJ&pg=PT819&lpg=PT819&dq=read+operation )
Integrity can be enabled when the system is not running on Storage Spaces. When
integrity is enabled and ReFS detects a checksum mismatch, ReFS logs an event and
fails the read operation by default. If you don’t want the read operation to fail, you
can configure ReFS to continue with the read operation. A related event will be logged
        regardless.
So then how do I configure it to do that???
(And just to make it super-clear, I'm NOT using Storage Spaces, so there is no redundancy via mirroring/parity, and I'm not expecting any file repair - just detection of corruption. It's just a basic volume formatted with ReFS and
with integrity streams enabled, via format E: /fs:ReFS /i:enabled
For those who want more details, here's the situation:
I try to perform a read operation on a file with corrupted data (purposely done for testing using a low-level disk editor), I get a the following error message:
And an event ID 133 from ReFSv1 gets logged in the System log:
Clicking "Try Again" just brings up the same message, and clicking "Skip" skips the operation entirely.
This is indeed the correct default behaviour.
What I want instead is for the read operation to be allowed to complete, with corrupt data and all, and ONLY for the event to be logged. And according to William Stanek, this is supposed to be configurable somewhere - and after hours of searching, I haven't
    been able to find anything.

    Hi Tommy,
    >>How can I configure ReFS to NOT fail read operations when a checksum error is detected
We can use PowerShell command Set-FileIntegrity to configure this. The specific parameter for controlling this behavior is
-Enforce <Boolean>which indicates whether to enable blocking access to a file if integrity streams do not match the data.
Regarding this point, the following article can be referred to as reference.
    Set-FileIntegrity

  • Can't configure wireless settings on P1102w using a mac

Hi there. I can't configure wireless settings on P1102w using a mac. I have it installed with USB just fine but I want to use eprint (with ios airplay). I run the setup utility looking for some wireless setup option, but it never appears. When I finish the install it tells me to go to the eprint website to download eprint. At that site it has me download the firmware update, which I do, and then at the end of that it tells me to go to the eprint website again, which then downloads the firmware update again. It's an endless loop.
I know I need to get to the built in web server but the config page tells me I don't have an IP address. Which makes sense to me because it hasn't been set up.  I can't for the life of me find how to set up the wireless using the driver software on the Mac OS. I try to follow the manuals instructions, but it looks like it is designed for windows users, and the buttons it tells me to look for just don't exist on the mac HP driver software.
    Can you help?

    Hi,
The Wireless configuration should be made by using the EWS page, which also accessible from Mac OS over a USB connection through the printer setup.
You may find the steps listed below:
Click the Apple icon, then clickSystem Preferences.
    Click Print & Fax.
Select your printer and click Open Print Queue.
    Click on Printer Setup
    Then select Utility
    Click Open Printer Utility
    Click HTMLConfig. The EWS opens.
    Click the Networking tab
Then click Wireless from the list on the left
Under Communication Mode, click Infrastructure, select your network SSID from the Available Network Names (SSID) list, and then click the << button.
From the Security Mode pop-up menu under Authentication, click WEP or WPA/WPA2. Your selection  depends on which Wireless Security Protocol your network uses.
Type your WEP/WPA/WPA2 key in the appropriate field, and then click Apply.
In the confirmation box, click OK and then close the HTML Config and Print Queue windows.
Once done, allow 3 minutes to fully establish the connection, then unplug the USB.
Enter Print & Fax and remove the existing USB Print Queue.
Click the Plus button and add the printer over the network.
Please let me know of any issue,
    Shlomi

Virtual PC does not support USB.  Windows 7 XP Mode Virtual Machine supports the use of USB devices.  Virtual PC and Windows 7 XP Mode VM are not the same thing!
