Can't configure sync my contacts & calendar on iTunes (10.1.0.56)

The ability to configure Sync my contacts is not avaliable. When I select sync my contacts the configure button does not respond.
As for Sync my calendars - this one I even can't select, the option to select the check box is disabled.
I have iPhone 4 OS 4.2.1
I am using Outlook 2007 on windows XP.
I have re-installed iTunes, I have restored my iPhone, I have configured the iTunes Add in in my outlook, outlook is my default mail account, I basicly did everything that is possible.
Any idea on how to fix that?
Worth mention that previously I had iPhone 3G sync on this laptop, but I have managed to remove all the old backups.
I can sync photos and application but that's all.

I have resolved this.
For anyone having the issue, here's what appears to be happening based on running iTunes setup with verbose logging turned on and watching the time when the network interface dies.
Issue:
During the installation, iTunes installs some network components related to mobile device support over ethernet(Apple Mobile Device Ethernet Service - netaapl.inf). At the same time, according the logs, the install process removed OEM18.inf. This almost exactly coincided with the time that I saw the network connection die (preceded it by a few seconds).
Basically, iTunes appears to be removing a required network component.
Resolution:
After installing iTunes and the network connection breaking, remove the network device from Device Manager and allow Windows to reinstall it automatically.
The following instructions are for Windows 7, but they are close enough to follow for other versions of Windows.
1. Click the Start button (Jewel in Vista and Win7).
2. Right-click Computer and click Manage in the menu that appears (type your password or click Yes if prompted).
3. On the left side of hte Computer Management window, click Device Manager.
4. Click the arrow (or plus sign) next to Network Adapters to expand that section.
5. Right-click your network adapter and click Uninstall in the menu that appears.
6. Click OK.
7. Reboot.
Windows should automatically detect and reinstall your network device on boot.

Apple recently updated the sync time interval between the Address Book and iCal on your Mac and the MM cloud to be faster than every 15 minutes.
After entering a new contact and/or calendar event in the Address Book and iCal on your Mac, you can select Sync Now.
Go to System Preferences > MobileMe.
Under the Sync tab for your MM sync preferences, select show status in menu bar.
After entering a new contact or calendar event, if you don't want to wait select Sync Now from the sync status in the menu bar. This will manually sync the Address Book and iCal on your Mac with your MM online address book and calendars, which should push the change to your iPhone's address book and calendar.

Generally that is a sign that the iPhone had previously been jailbroken
or hacked to work with other than the original wireless provider. The update
has relocked the iPhone to the original wireless provider. You must
contact them to see if they provide unlocking and if you qualify.
If you can get that far, what does it say when you look at
Settings=>General=>About=>Carrier?

The cool thing is -- it works. I just went on the PC, signed in to my account, and there were all my BlackBerry contacts, etc, AND I can even SMS from the Desktop App.
I know if you are on a corporate BES this is not a big deal, but would be great for those on a personal BIS account who forget to do a wired sync, and your spouse/family and those who are not, for backups of data.

Can I share a common "Contacts/Calendar" store?

I am a longstanding Windows user who is now "sold" on my iPhone & iPad. I appreciate that I can sync my contacts/calendar between iPhone and my Windows Laptop/Desktops etc. but having my iPhone handy when I login to each Windows device etc. As I have multiple devices, being a retired I.T. type, I would prefer to have a single storage location to which every device I use would synchronize Contacts & Calendar data. Almost all answers to this predicament that I've found so far have a requirement for me to change my EMail address to gmail, or outlook.com or whatever.
So, my predicament:- I wish to login to my very longstanding IMAP Email account and have access to my Contacts & Calendar from whatever Iphone, iPad or Windows device.I happen to be using.
I appreciate that the answer is possibly very straightforward, but please be patient with an old-timer! and please, please, please don't reply with the opening phrase...."If you had a "gmail" email account..... or if you had an "outlook.com" email account. The predicament that I'm in is that I haven't!
Any help very much appreciated. But please type slowly, as I'm getting a bit slow on the uptake!!!

Dropbox will flag conflicts, a very serious concern for file sharing. I'm not sure what iCloud would do with the case of two copies of a document being open and being modified simultaneously.
Think about how you will coordinate edits and prevent conflicts. It may be as easy as taking turns doing edits with coordination by email.

I have three device: Macbook Pro (OSX 10.7.5) for work; an iPad and a Blackberry for mobile. I used mail, iCal, and Address Book combine with mobileme (iCloud) to exchange data such as contact, calendar and task from my Mackbook Pro to my iPad but never to Blackberry. The problem is my boss was asking me to change to Outlook 2011 for Mac because some of the email that I sent from Mail did not appear in my client's Blackberry. So how do you sync iCloud (contact, calendar, task) to Outlook 2011 for Mac? and how do you make seemless sync between iCloud to Outlook 2011 to Blackberry device or an iPad?

I already tried rebooting, and I tried hooking it up to itunes as well, no luck there either.

Try to reset all settings.
Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings. It won't delete your data.
When you say reboot, do you mean you pressed the home and sleep button at the same time until it restarted?

I had the identical problem. I still don't know how to sync the tasks, but here's how I did the contacts and calendar:
1. Connect the 4s to the computer.
2. Open iTunes.
3. Click the iPhone box in the upper right corner.
4. Click on the info tab.
5. Hit the checkbox Sync Contacts with... and choose Outlook from the dropdown box.
6. Ditto for Calendars.
7. Hit Apply.
My problem was that originally, I wasn't getting the checkboxes. I turned off the iCloud settings on the 4s. That did the trick.

Are you sure that these times are still selected to sync in iTunes?
When you connect your iPad to your PC and with iTunes running, select your iPad under the devices button in the upper right corner of the iTunes window. Then click on the Movies tab and make sure that the movies are selected (checked) to sync. Check the playlists in the Music tab as well.

Is all the content from your iTunes library on the old Dell laptop now on your MacBook air? If you copied the entire iTunes folder and copied it over the existing iTunes folder, your iPod will still think it is being synced to the same iTunes library and there would be no need to do an erase and sync.
