Can't Conform Red footage through Cinema Tools?

Hi there, need advice.
I can't conform off line Prores footage with original R3D files.
1. I created database by dropping the hard drive ikon with original Red footage into Cinema Tools. Cinema Tool creates the file with extension .ctdb (cinema tools data base)
2. From FCP I exported EDL of my project/sequence.
3. Then, I opened Color and imported EDL,
4. New window pops up and asks for database file.
5. Choosed database.
6. Color loads the cuts into timeline but it *doesn't connect/import* original R3D files. Why?
What am I doing wrong?
Also, I did this workflow before successfully but for some reason it doesn't work now.
Many thanx,
ps
Color 1.5.2
REDCODE 4.2
footage shot with build 21
frame size 4096x2304

Never mind.
Step 4 and 5 was not necessary. I guess Color remembers database from previous projects.

  • Conforming 60fps to 25fps in FCP X without Cinema Tools

    Hi,
    I want to conform 60fps (and / or 50fps) footage to 25fps.
Unfortunately FCP X does not have Cinema Tools so I can’t conform it (as per the days of FCP 7).
In FCP X I am currently using the ‘conform speed’ function but am getting unsatisfactory results.
Is there another way to conform 60fps to 25fps?
    I’ve tried:
    Mpeg Streamclip,
    Handbrake,
    Compressor,
    and Xilisoft.
    None seem to work!
    Please help!

Thanks for your help Tom. Yes am fully aware 60fps should conform to 30fps (and 50 to 25).
What I find unsatisfactory is the smoothness and resolution. My 60fps and 50fps conformed footage through Cinema Tools was far superior.
    So..... onto a solution:
I've tried Handbrake, Compressor, Mpeg Streamclip and Xilisoft:
In the above applications I've changed the various FPS boxes to "25" (fps) but it hasn't made any difference!
Is there something I'm doing wrong?

  • Overcrank in camera or conform in cinema tools for smoothest footage

got the ex1, wondering what would give the best results.....shoot 24f and overcrank to 60 in camera, or shoot 60p and conform to 24p in cinema tools......any ideas?
    thanks!

What's an ex1? There are only about two thousand video cameras that will talk to FCP.
"Smooth" is a relative term and you haven't told us what you think you're going to accomplish by "overcrank." One only overcranks to achieve slow motion and, even if you're post-processing, more discrete slices of time are always better.

  • Reverse Telecine Question (Cinema Tools)

    Dear board members,
I have footage that was shot with Panasonic AG-HVX200 in 1080i60 (29.97fps), but with 24p function with a 2:3 pulldown. When I ingest it in FCP through Log and Transfer this footage (for some peculiar reason) shows up as 1080p30. I also need to remove pulldown to make it 24 (23,98) FPS.
    My workaround is as follows:
    1) I export these files from FCP as DVCPRO HD 1080i60 QT files.
    2) then I send these new "masters" to Cinema Tools, where I do Reverse Telecine process.
The results looks fine, but I just want to double-check my settings in Cinema Tools, because the batch for this job contains thousands of clips and there is no room for mistake.
Reverse Telecine in Cinema Tools settings:
    Capture Mode:
    Field 1 - Field 2
    Fields:
    AA
    File:
    New (smaller)
    Frames:
    Conform to: 23.98 FPS
    Standard Upper/Lower: Checked
Thank you very much for your time and (hopefully) helpful comments.
    Regards,
    Tim

I just did a test yesterday with MXFX software and there is a visible recompression in the resulting file. I compared the same frame (from different clips) processed through Cinema Tools and MXFX and also compared it to the original frame and MXFX clearly does something to the image (recompression or noise reduction, whatever you want to call it). Contacted them about it, they said they will look at it. Anyhow, the result is pretty visible at 200% zoom. Anyhow, that made me decide against MXFX.
    Thanks for a suggestion though.

  • TRIED EVERYTHING/NO LUCK with Reverse Telecine in Cinema Tools 29.97 to 24p

I read an article that was on Ken Stones site. It said that, basically you CAN'T
take a clip that is at 29.97 and has 3:2 pulldown in it, and get it to actual 24 progressive frames? Is this true? Has ANYONE out there actually removed pulldown CORRECTLY with footage shot at 24, then transferred to 29.97?
I've tried all options with Cinema Tools Reverse Telecine, and I always wind up with some interlacing.
My QT clip has a 3:2 cadence, one can frame through it and see this.
Am I missing something here? Does anyone know a procedure that can get me to 24 progressive frames. Is there a 3rd party piece of software out there?
    Any relies appreciated.

Well then, that is your problem. Those aren't reverse telecin-able. What are reversable are DV tapes that you captured at 29.97...in the DV/NTSC codec.
Are you working with Digital Intermediates? Or footage telecined to tape?
Typical Telecine to Tape workflow is:
    Telecine to DVCAM
Lab provides DVCAM and Flex file to you.
Open Cinema Tools. Import Flex file and export batch Capture list.
Import batch capture list into FCP.
    Batch Capture the DV footage.
Reverse telecine the footage with Cinema Tools.
    Edit.
What exactly are you doing? Where did these files come from? What is your workflow?

  • 29.97 EDl to 24 in Cinema tools :::  inaccurate data result

Hello. I've been looking at some forums but haven't been able to find anybody with the same situation. I'm converting my EDL file from 30fps to 24fps on Cinema Tools. I opened the file to revise if the timecodes were indeed correct. Some of my "in" and "out" timecodes end in 00:00:00:29 or 00:00:00:28 and that shouldn't be since i'm supposedly converting everything to 24fps so everything should end in that range of frames (01 through 24 ), right?
Anything that might come to mind or relate to this problem?
    i have a FCP 7
    Best regards

  • 24P, cinema tools,..asking for trouble down the road?

A project was shot using 24p.
Removed frames using Cinema Tools and it did a better job than FCP did. Remove Advance Pulldown wouldn't pull out the correct frame. (Or I'm leaving some important step out.)
Now the project is ready to edit in 23.98 fps.
But what happens if I need to re-digitize the media with the project being offline down the road? I noticed the time-code Media Start is a little different. Will my sequence be off by a few frames and be out of sync?
Isn't 24pAdvanced better since you can bypass the step through Cinema Tools?
    Thanks for any help.

When you strip pulldown via Cinema Tools, it rewrites the file to 24 fps timecode, so recapturing isn't possible, in my experience, when the tape media is 29.97 timecode.
If you're working offline/online, yes, 24pA is better because when FCP strips the pulldown, the file retains the 29.97 fps timecode. That is, frames, and those timecode numbers, are simply skipped.
I hope you have a copy of the FCP project file back when it was still 29.97 fps cause you'll might need that clip info when you have to recapture. Though I suppose a logging sheet that corresponds exactly to your clips could suffice...

  • Can't Conform 24 to 29.97fps!

    Hi.
I'm trying to conform a clip using cinema tools. The video format is HDV 720p24 and I want to conform to 29.97fps but cinema tools
don't allow me to do it ( the button conform is not active.) What's wrong?
    thx

Cinema Tools cannot conform GOP formats like HDV. Because there aren't any real frames.  You need to convert the footage to ProRes first, then conform.
You do know that if you conform from 24 to 29.97, that will speed up the footage, right?  This isn't a frame rate conversion, where the footage will play back at the same speed (1 second is 1 second, but at a different rate), but rather conform the footage...keeping the same frames but changing the rate.  So 24 frames that was 1 second, is now 24 frames, but LESS than a second...as your second will now be 30 frames long.  It will play faster.

  • Cinema tools workflow

can't seem to get the cinema tools manual to open on the apple site. Does anyone have any other suggestions for information on good cinema toos-finalcut workflow literature?
    thanks

The cut frame (for negative cutting) will be correct for 23.98 or 24. The advantage of 24 is if you sync sound in Final Cut, you can bring sound it at it's captured rate.
If you edit at 23.98, you retain the slow down imposed in film to video transfer (telecine) and thus need to slow down your sound by the same amount (1/10th of 1 percent, or .1%) to sync.
Where there can be some adjustment of cut frames for negative cutting is if you edit at 29.97. This is because the cut frame could potentially contain information from 2 different film source frames.

  • Is there another way (other than in Cinema Tools) to conform 60i footage to 24p?

I just upgraded to Lion and it killed Cinema Tools and I don't want to upgrade to FCPx yet. Please help! I need to make some slo-mo clips ASAP.

This is what digital signatures are all about. Not all signatures do this, but a properly set up one will use a time server maintained by a trusted party, and that time will be stored as an irrevocable proof.
If you didn't sign it, or the signature used the computer's clock - no.

  • Cinema Tool: Conforming to 23.98fps from 30fps problem

After exporting an about 4 and half minutes long ProRes 422 1080 30p footage in mov, it runs smoothly anywhere... and then when I open it in Cinema Tool, it's ok.
The problem occurs once I conform it to 23.98fps, the video becomes corrupted at the 2 min mark, I can't view the last 2 and half minutes anywhere - it just cant go past the 2 minute mark.
I don't know if the 2 minutes thing is just coincidence.

The issue is apparently a conflict between leopard and Compressor. I located a patch online.

  • Cinema Tools won't let me conform a video clip

I'm using FCP 7 and CT 4.5. I want to conform a 30p clip to 24p in CT, but when I open the clip in CT, the "conform" button isn't clickable/activated. However, when I open other clips, the button is clickable.
What are possible reasons that CT won't allow you to conform a clip?

Well, since FCP-7 does not work correctly or reliably with H.264 files, use Compressor to convert your source material to an edit friendly codec such as ProRes.
Once that is done, you can use Cinema Tools if you want to, and the whole experience in FCP will be better.

  • Replacement for Apple Cinema Tools to batch conform for overcrank?

Apologies if I am asking this question in the wrong forum.  And If I am, perhaps you could refer me to the right place,.
I use it to batch conform 60 fps (shot on my 7D) to other frame rates (30, 24 etc) to achieve smooth slow motion.
I know that there are ways to conform clips one-at-a-time in After Effects.
But I am seeking a simple one-step batch conform tool that will convert like Cinema Tools.
I also tried Red-Giant grinder, however it does not recognise the files coming out of my GoPro Hereo 3+.
Is there a way to do this with Adobe's products?
    Thanks.

This forum is for supporting people who have issues downloading and installing Adobe software.  It sounds like you are looking for help with an application, and since you mention After Effects, maybe that would be a better place to start.  After Effects

  • Can i use cinema tools that came with FCP7 with new final cut pro x

I want to make sure I can still add smooth slow motion to my clips by using cinema tools instead of just slowing down the video. I am debating on upgrading to FCPX but would like to continue to use my older programs when needed.

I think FCP-X contains frame rate conforming as options within the application - making Cinema Tools not necessary for that purpose.
Best to ask in the FCP-X forum, here.
