Can't connect 2200d on Windows 7 to XP machine

I need help sharing my LaserJet 2200d running on Windows 7 with another computer running XP. The HP LaserJet was originally installed on the XP 32 bit machine and it ran fine. I bought a new computer with Windows 7, 64 bit and Windows automatically installed the software for the printer and it works fine on Windows 7. I have printer sharing turned on and the XP machine CAN find the HP printer across the network. In reading the HP web support on this topic I did try to configure the HP LaserJet for both 64 bit and 32 bit (x86) drivers. However, when I follow through the step outlined on this page - http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c02030517 I run into a problem in locating the proper driver. I keep getting an error message saying that I do not have the correct file. I tried all HP 2200 PCL 5 drivers that I could find on this link, including the universal driver - http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=28862&pr... but non of them worked. I kept getting the message that I do not have the correct driver. The exact error message is "The requested location does not contain the driver for the HP LaserJet 2200 Series PCL 5 for the requested processor architecture. What driver do I need to install on my windows 7 machine in order to allow the HP 2200d PCL 5 printer to be shared with my 32 bit XP machine and where do I find it? Thanks very much, Dan

Hi guys!  Had the same issue with a client.  Just found the solutions brainstorming (and the red bull helped!!)  This is tested on a Windows x64 machine sharing the printer on the network and attempting to connect via a Windows XP machine.  The printer has been previously shared amongst other Windows 7 x64 machine successfully.
The solution is to install the HP Universal Printer Driver - PCL5 version on the machine where the printer is connected locally FOR THE SAME PRINTER THUS CREATING A SECOND PRINTER USING THE UNVERSAL DRIVER.
After downloading the file, it will unzip and start the installation.  Choose the existing printer using the same port ( it will say ie DOT4 - HP Laserjet 2200).  Once it completes, unclick [ ] Set as default and complete the operation.  Now go to the Printers listing.  Under the HP Lasterjet 2200 printer there should be two printers listed - one using the Windows 7 x64 biut driver and the other using the HP Universal driver
Now, on the Windows XP machine, use the same Universal Printer Drviver and find the printer by browsing the network for the computer.  You should see the HP Universal Printer.  Select it and continue with the installation.  Once completed, print a test page.    PRESTO!!!
Hope it works.  In the middle of a my runs so if you need more elaboration, give me a bit to answer back.

A Java AWT, X11 problem posted in the weblogic ejb newsgroup. I haven't been in here for long, but
that has to be a first.
If you have the DISPLAY env variable set to :0.0, you have to be at the console on a Solaris box
running the XServer. 'xdm' I think is the code that has to be running. Also, I think the format is
<hostname:0.0> or better <hostname:0> unless you are on a multi-headed workstation. Something like:
    export DISPLAY=hostname:0
where hostname is the name of the host running an XServer and the .xhosts file allows access to the
    XServer from the display client.
Apparently, you are not at the console?
Anyway, I don't think there is a newsgroup here that I could even recommend to cross-post this to as
it is not a WebLogic question. I think I would try the Discussion Forums at http://java.sun.com.

i got the tip of passing -Djava.awt.headless=true to vm to disable system graphic calls but after restart weblogic i still get the same error
i am wondering if this case has something to do with jdk 1.3.1, and perhaps newer versions of jdk can take the parameter and operate correctly
    is that right?

is headless option supported in jdk1.3.1?No,
It was added in JDK 1.4:

I get the above error when I try to create an instance of the JProgressBar.
I have not been able to create a workaround.
One suggestion that I had was to use the following system command.
    System.setProperty("java.awt.headless","true");
That gave me a null pointer exception.
I also tried setting the compiler parameters to make this process headless, but it did not make any difference.
I am running this code in a Unix environment.
    Any ideas?

    Hi
Generally in Unix environment the server should accept the connections from clients. Run the xhost + command on the server to which you are trying to connect and then try your application.

    Hi all,
Thanks a lot for ur reply. It worked me atlast.I have installed JDK1.4 and try to run my program. But it was creating some junk value instaed of creating picture. Actullay my programme needs some third party fonts , it was not loading after i have upgraded. But what i did is , copied the fonts file in to <Java_home>/jre/lib/fonts/ directory. Now it's working fine.
I have done another thing .I am using resin-2.1.0 to serve my JSp pages . So i have added $JAVA_ARGS="-Djava.awt.headless=true"; in wrapper.pl . If u will not add this line then iot will not work for you.
    Thank u once again.
    Bye.

You need to connect to a X-Server, since you are using java.awt.Font
The Font implementation needs a graphical subsystem (it has something to do with Frame.addNotify, ...)
I've heard about a simple (FrameBuffer?) XServer implementation without a graphical output. Perhaps you may find some more information in the FAQ section for JAVA/JSP

Are you sure you're using a Windows server which support Terminal Services? In other words, try (on the Windows server) by escaping to the CMD prompt and issue the

If you logon to the console with a user, only that user is permitted to "send" the display to the screen. If you do an "su - ora<sid>" that user must be enable to do so too.
    - logon as root
    - open a terminal windows (a new one)
    - execute "xhost +"
    - use another terminal window
    - execute "su - ora<sid>"
    - execute "setenv DISPLAY <ip>:<port>"
    - then execute ./RUNINSTALLER in the SAP subdirectory of Disk1 (NOT runInstaller)

  • Message: Can't connect to a Windows Service

Every time I log onto my Laptop I get a message that says it can't connect to a Windows Service. What is this and what does it mean to me? I don't even know what forum category this question should be posted in, so I just took a guess.

You can try resetting the winsock by performing the following:
    1.  Click the start button
    2.  Type "cmd.exe"
    3.  Select it and then "ctrl - shift - enter" to allow elevation request (administrator)
    4.  Type in - "netsh winsock reset" press enter (without quotes)
    5.  Then Restart your computer
After restarting your computer, should you still get the error message, try disabling your firewall and restart again. If your connection works, replace the firewall software.

  • My imac running lion can not connect to a Windows PC on my network

My imac runing lion 10.7 can not connect to my Windows 7 pc on my network. When i select connect to server, I can see the windows computer but when i try to connect, i get the error message:
Connection failed.  There was a problem connecting to the server.  Ther server may not exist or is unavailable at this time.  Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection and try again.
I entered smb:// computer name and I tried smb://IP address.  Neither would connect.
I am able to connect to the imac from my Window PC and access files but not I can not connect my iMac to the Windows PC.
I am trying to connect the two computers so that I can use a printer that is attached to the Windows 7 pc.
When I first downl;oaded and installed Lion, I was able to connect to the Windows 7 pc and use the printer attached to it.
I have tried 5 or 6 different suggestions to no avail.  Both computers are up to date and the printer drivers are up to date.
Please let me know if there is a solution.

Be sure to make the network Workgroup name on the Mac and Windows boxes the same.
On the Mac it is in System Preferences, Network Preferences, Advanced, WINS
On the Windows machine check in the Control Panel where you will also find the Computer name listed. I don't have my PC running right now, so I am not sure exactly where it is. Only assign a Workgroup, do not create a Domain.
You can also search in Windows for Workgroup.
I can link/network Lion to Win7 and vice versa without any problems.
