Can't connect AX to Verizon Fios -- Security Issue?

Switched to a Verizon Fios Wireless Router and now I cant get AX to work. Using it for playing audio thru home entertainment system. I'm pretty sure its a security compatibility issue. Below are the Wireless Router settings:
Radio Enabled: YES
SSID: XXXXXYY
Channel: Automatic
Security Enabled: YES
WEP 64-bit KEY 1 (HEX): XXXXXXXXXX
WEP 802.1x: N/A
WPA: N/A
SSID Broadcast: Enabled
MAC Authentication: Disabled
Wireless Mode: Mixed - accepts 802.11b and 802.11g connections
Packets Sent Total: 4625653
Packets Received: 61781
AX offers two WEP choices -- 128 and 40. As you can see the router is 64. When I choose 128, it does not successfully configure AX. When I try 40, it sets up successfully. But, when I try and use AX for streaming Audio, it works for 1 second and cuts out.
Thoughts? Thanks for your help.

40/64 bit WEP is extremely weak.
128 bit WEP is a little better.
What you want to use is WPA2 or WPA with a non-dictionary password. If your wireless devices support those wireless encryption protocols you should use that instead of WEP.
Also I would use a wireless utility such as iStumbler to determine which channel to use instead of leaving the router set to "Channel: Automatic".

New imac 27(Intel based, bought 2013) slow wifi connection with my Verizon fios actiontec router. All other wireless devices in the house(ipad 3gen,MacBook Air ,hp laptop) have a much faster connection. Should I change router settings to G only, switch channel from auto to maybe 6,channel width to 20mhz? Already changed security settings to WPA2.  Currently router is running in mixed b and g mode.

If you have one computer running on G they will all run on G. All ROUTERS are backward compatible, in otherwords if you have a group of computers and all of them are N compatible and one or two are G They will all work but the N computers will run at N and those that are G will run at G speed not N.
It can get confusing but really it is simple. The newest is 802.11 AC and ic used with the newest Mac Computers made available in November 2013. So if you have the newest Airport Extreme that is 802.11ac and the newest computers that are AC compliant your speed will be 5 times faster than anything on the market right now.

  • Trouble connecting wirelessly via Verizon FiOS router

    I am using a Titanium G4 Powerbook, OS 10.4.11.
I have an Airport Extreme connected to a Verizon FiOS router. These are set to broadcast on different channels.
Our iMac is connected to the FiOS via Ethernet: no problem getting online.
Other Mac notebooks can connect wirelessly using either the Airport or the FiOS.
This notebook can connect via Airport; however when logged into the FiOS wirelessly, and getting a strong signal, I cannot connect. Diagnostics tells me "ISP failed"; Airport tells me I have a self-assigned IP address.
It seems I have some setting wrong somewhere?

    Why 2 routers?
-- only the AE can broadcast Airtunes
-- but the AE only has one hard-wired ethernet port (I need one for my imac and one for my ethernet printer)
-- and the FiOS router's wireless signal is stronger, I can get it in more parts of the house.
Thus the imac can be on via FiOS while the laptops are on via either FiOS or AE.
As long as both routers aren't distributing IP addresses on the same schema, should it matter?
I'll admit it would be easier to use only the FiOS router, but then no Airtunes. And I can't log onto the FiOS wirelessly, as I explained in my original post.

  • HP Photosmart Plus B210e but cannot get it to connect to my Verizon Fios Router

I have the HP Photosmart Plus B210e but cannot get it to connect to my Verizon Fios Router which is an Actiontex M1424-WR.   The printer finds the router name and I enter the WEP key, but it does not connect.   The Diagnostics Summary listed No Filtering status as FAIL.   I logged into my router and verified that no MAC Filtering is enabled.   I have two laptops that have no problem connecting to the router.

Odd that a hard-reboot was required.  THis worked for me, too.  Thanks for the post!

  • How can I get my Cisco wireless router to wirelessly connect to my Verizon Fios Actiontec router?

I have Verizon Fios for internet, tv and phone. The Verizon Actiontec router is connected with a ethernet cable into my desktop and the internet is up and running. Now I bought a Cisco Linksys WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband Router, and I wanted to connect it to another desktop two floors up. I set up the Cisco router according to the instructions, but I'm not able to connect to the internet. It shows that my computer was able to get a Local Network connection, but internet connection keeps failing.... I tried changing the IP address. But I'm confused about the whole thing. Is the Default gateway number suppose to be the same for both routers? Is it possible that the Actiontec router isnt giving off a strong enough wireless signal? I'm open for suggestions! Thanks

    Mac or Windows machine?
Is the WRT connected directly to the upstairs computer? I don't think you can use the WRT that way?
Have you had a look here?:http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/Wireless-Routers/General-Linksys-Router-FAQs/td-p/4286
I THINK you would have to have a WETxx (Ethernet Adapter)  instead?
If it connects to the Internet even breifly then I suppose that means your connected but it may be losing the signal and failng. You would porbably have ot get a WAP(Access Point) and use it as a repeater.
I'm a bit rusty on the names so I hope i got them right, hope it helps.....

  • Can't connect to My Verizon from phone using WiFi

I'm unable to connect to My Verizon from my Droid when it's using WiFi. A customer support rep confirmed that it only worked when using 3G, but couldn't explain why. With Verizon (and all the other carriers) complaining about the demand being placed on their 3G networks can anyone explain why this is?
    Best,
    Ed

My Verizon from the Android device can only be accessed using our network because it is set up using a portal directly on our network.
If you want to access your My Verizon account from your Android device using a WiFi connection you will need to open a browser page on your phone and then go to www.verizonwireless.com. Once there you can sign in to your My Verizon account.
Hope this helps. Feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.

  • My AirPort Express won't connect to my Verizon FIOS Router

I am trying to get my AirPort Express to join my Verizon FIOS wireless network and I am experiencing difficulties. I have made sure theAirport is updated with the 6.3 firmware. I only want to use it to play AirTunes over my existing network. So when I go to set it up in the AirPort Utility on my MacBook Pro it recognizes the Airport Express. I go through the setup and select "Join my existing wireless network". Then I click on my network's name and enter the WEP (i am sure I am not misspelling the WEP, I checked several times) and finish up on the settings. I then click "Update" and it tells me it's resetting and will show up in a few moments. It never shows up on my utility and the speaker never shows up on itunes. From then on the AirPort Express is unrecognizable as an airport or a network, and won't be recognizable again until I reset it.

Nvm, i got it to work

  • At a hotel, can see 3 other Macs in Finder - Security Issue??

I'm at a hotel that has wi-fi and am connected to the internets. In Finder, I can see 3 other Macs under Shared. Why are these appearing?? File and Printer Sharing were checked in System Preference (they are for home use). I unchecked File Sharing but could still see the other computers. One of them displayed as connected (VPN).
What are the security issues here? Is it normal to "see" other Macs this way? Does this mean someone was snooping around my files? How can I prevent this? Please advise and thanks.

If you don't want to share anything with others while in Public spaces then uncheck File Sharing options.
It sounds like they are allowing others to share/see their Mac's but that's no worry for you

  • Qosmio F30: Can't connecting to internet with Wlan securely

I have recently purchaced a Toshiba Qosmio F30 laptop, and have spent the best part of two days trying to connect to the internet wirelessly. After constantly calling Wanadoo (my provider) and blaming them for it all, I am told that the laptop itself is at fault.
What happens is when i try to enter my network key (WEP) it defaults to a different key which i am unable to see as it is all in dots! This keeps happening and im am completely unable to enter my own network key. Until that is i disable the security on my livebox thingy, and connect to it unsecurely and as i live in close proximity flats, other people can and probably will connect to my internet, and i'm also told that this makes me more at risk from viruses and the like.
I apologize for my lack of technical jargon, and that i cant give a more descriptive..er...description, but i am just a beginner and not the most computer literate.
Any help would be most appreciated!.......Why is nothing ever simple!

    Hi Luke,
Have you tried WAP (shared key) instead of WEP.
In this way, you will have to make up your own key instead of having it generated by the router.
    It is also safer.
In order to do that, you must enter your router's settings (usually http://192.168.1.1, or http://192.168.0.1), enter the administrator password provided by Wanadoo, then click on security. Change the setting from WEP to WAP (or shared key), and enter a 10digit password that you will then have to reenter when you computer will try to connect to the router again.
It is best to use a wired connection to change the settings, then disconnect the wire, and connect wirelessly.
If you notice that you are connected wirelessly to the router, and that your connection to the internet is dead, disable temporarily the LAN (reenable it when you are satisfied your connection is working). This would happen if your computer understand your wireless connection as a network connection to other computers and the wired connection as you connection to the internet (even if there is no wire connected).
It is also important to change the administrator name and password to access your router (this would prevent your neighbours' kids playing at changing your settings).
Let me know if you have more problems.

  • Can't connect to the internet - incompatible security?

I'm trying to connect to the internet, but when I put in the password (it says it's a WEP) to connect to the network, it would say "Incompatible Security." Does anybody have any idea why it says that?

I don't know exactly about that error message. I could make guesses.
Can you find out the model of the wireless basestation, and perhaps if the owners can provide more information about how they set it up? For example, there are 802.11 A, B, G N and some basestations have combination choices; there are several encryption methods and each has several variations; many basestations have several other possible security options and ways to enter the key or plain text password.
Oh, and your Powerbook - what model?

  • Can I connect to old Verizon account with replacement iPad?

I had to get my Verizon iPad 2 replaced at the Apple store.  Now I can't reconnect to my old data plan.  It asks for my information again but then complains because my email screws is already in use.  Any ideas?

I did have to go through Verizon to get this resolved.  What they really needed, though, was the phone number from my old iPad.  I guess every iPad has a phone number associated with it.  Unfortunately my old iPad was already gone but verizon finally thought to have me get the original box which I still had.  The box had a sticker on it with the information they needed.  So I'm all set.  The Moral of the story is to make sure to save your old information (phone number) when you get a replacement iPad (or iPhone I assume).

  • My iPad can't connect to iTunes, is there an issue on iTunes end?

For the past week, I have not been able to update any apps.  I have changed my password, I have made sure my connection is good still nothing.  Why can't I connect with iTunes?

I forgot to mention I have gone through the troubleshooting recommended and there is no issue from my stand point for my iPad 2.  That is why I am wondering if iTunes are experiencing server issues.

  • In the US-can't connect to iTunes-anyone else having issues?

I've been reading a bunch of threads with similar connection timeout issues but they mainly belong to Window users, users in England who are using an ISP with Orange, and users who are using personal firewalls.
Just a week ago I was downloading songs fine (been an iTunes user since the beginning), but suddenly three days ago, I can't do anything. Redeem a code, download a song, access my account information. It just keeps saying: "connection timed out, please check Internet connections."
I've contacted Apple Customer Service but am getting the run-around with automatic emails, emails that send me to Windows articles, emails that seem to not be understanding what is going on.
Does anyone else seem to have this problem? I see a lot of internationl users that having issues....but in the US? Is it a specific modem issue (I have a Motorola cable modem)? Is this a ISP specific issue (I use Cox Communications)? Or is this a widespread Apple issue?
    Any ideas?

I have had a similar problem with my iTunes and Safari. I will be able to connect to the music store for a little bit, as well as to webpages using Safari, but then randomly out of nowhere, both Safari and the Music Store will no longer be accessible. Safari will usually say something like, "The network cannot be found" or "the website cannot be found" whereas iTunes music store will simply just freeze. I would have just assumed this was a problem with my internet service, but Firefox works fine, as does AIM and other internet services, so it seems to be a problem solely with Apple products.
It's a very annoying problem, and I don't know why it's occurring, but I hope it is resolved soon!
