Can't connect G5 to existing Express network

Can't connect my G5 Tower (OS10.5.8) to existing local network consisting of airport express connected to internet via cable modem, wirelessly to iMac Intel Core 2 Duo (OS10.6.4).
Setup worked fine a couple months ago. G5 was give a new HD and upgraded from 10.4.11 but now cannot see the Express. iPad and iPod see it fine. Tried resetting everything, worked briefly (maybe a couple of minutes) but dropped the connection as I was trying to start a s/w download. Tried shutting down the iMac, resetting everything again and establishing a network from the G5 but no Express signal seen from theG5.

I'm not sure what you mean by "resetting everything", but if you haven't already tried these, you might try resetting your connection settings using the steps listed in this message:

They're not guaranteed to solve the problem, but they'll only take you a minute or so to try.

  • Can't connect AE to existing wireless network

I can't get my AE to connect to my existing wireless network. I saw the other thread on this and followed those steps, but it didn't work. Here's what I did:
    1. Connected the AE to my D-Link DIR-655 wireless router via ethernet cable.
    2. Opened Airport Utility and established a connection to the AE.
    3. Renamed the AE and entered a password.
    4. In the "wireless" tab, I selected "join existing network", chose my wireless network, selected the security type (WPA Personal) and entered the password.
    5. In the "music" tab, I named the speakers and entered a password.
So far so good. I clicked "update" and the AE restarted. After a while I received an error message informing me that the base station could no longer be detected. According to the directions posted in the other thread, this is actually supposed to be a sign that the AE is now in client mode and all is well.
I unplugged the ethernet cable from the AE and router and then went to the other room. I plugged the AE into the speakers and then plugged the AE into the wall.
However, instead of a green light all I have is a flashing amber light, even after several minutes. No connection.
I reset the AE and repeated the steps above, to no avail. Still a flashing amber light.
    Any ideas?

I'm having a similar issue. My AE is connected directly to a Netgear WGR614v4 router, and I run through all the steps you mentioned. When I choose to update the settings to the AE, I get the same "error" you mentioned about the AE not being found, and I also took that as a sign that I'm in client mode. I moved the AE to the other room, connected my mini cable to the stereo, then plugged the AE back into the wall. The AE runs through its setup and eventually gets a solid green light, so I'm thinking all is well.
The problem is that I then log back into the AirPort Utility on my laptop and the AE is not shown in the top left like it should be. After doing a bit of reading, I've figured out that I can manually find it by going to File>Configure Other and entering the AE's IP address and password. Then I get a window showing the details of the AE, its name, network, encryption, etc. However, if I close this window, it still doesn't show up in the main AirPort Utility screen and I'm not sure how to configure it for AirTunes.
Hoping that's just a bug with the AirPort Utility software, I open up iTunes to see if I can locate it there. I know I should see a pulldown menu at the bottom of iTunes that gives me an option for AE as my audio output method, but the menu is not there. Now I'm completely stuck.
At this point I decide to start from scratch, so I do a Factory Default reset by pressing down the reset button on the AE as I plug it into the wall. Now it is supposedly reset, so I plug it back into my router, then it runs through a setup sequence and lights up solid green before I've even done anything. It shows up in AirPort Utility with a default base station ID, but my computer won't connect to it at all. I'm hoping I can try to reset it again this evening and at least get back to the normal setup screen, but I'm really not sure what I could do differently at this point.
This is frustrating and I'm on the verge of giving up, but I REALLY want this to work out.

  • Can't connect to Secure Airport Express Network with my PC Laptop

    Hello-
I have a PC laptop with Windows XP and a wireless card that I've used to successfully connect to unsecured Airport Networks many times.
Now I have a Security-Enabled network in my apartment, and I can't figure out how to connect!
When I attempt to connect, it asks me to enter a "Network Key." I've tried using the numbers on the underside of the AirPort Express itself, as well as the password my roommate assigned to the network (which I used to successfully connect with my PowerMac G5). None of these work.
Does anyone have any ideas for me?
    Any additional information needed?
    THANK YOU!!!
    -Darnell from Chicago

What you need is the "Equivalent Network Password" of the AirPort Express Base Station (AX). This Apple Tech article should help: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106864

  • Can't connect PS3 to Airport Express Network - please help!

    Hello,
This may have been done to death before, but I couldn't find it...
I have an 80GB PS3 that I am trying to connect to the internet wirelessly through my Apple Airport Express.
When I follow the setup procedure on my PS3, it finds the Apple Network, I put in the security key and it all seems to be going OK. However, when I test the internet connection, it fails to find the IP address.
Can anyone help me with this? Please???
    Many thanks...

    I have fixed it!
Basically, I had wpa2 encryption enabled. I changed the encryption to wep, which then prompted me to enter a 13 digit password, which I did. Fired up the ps3, entered the new 13 digit password and voila! All working beuatifully.
    Many thanks for your help!

  • Can't connect PC to Airport Express

    Dear discussions helpers,
After my wife had Vista installed on her Sony Vaio, we can't connect her to our Airport Express to access the internet. We use WPA Personal, password access. Seems she can only connect to it if the network is open, which I don't want to do for obvious reasons. We have an iBook and a Macbook that connect without issues, but even if we enter the password and configure the settings correctly (the set-up assistant is just about the same as the Mac), it won't connect. Now, she let this go for so long, she passed the Geek Squad warranty. I know nothing of PC's, so I can't help. Why she went there is another issue, but the point is: what can you suggest we do to allow her to access my network?

Run AirPort Utility, click on Manual Setup, and then select Access. Change MAC Address Access Control from Not Enabled to Timed Access. Change the default setting by double clicking on it and on the drop down menu change Everyday to No Access. Now hit Done. Now click the + button and either enter your Mac's MAC Address (which can be found under Network Preferences and Advanced and is listed as your AirPort ID) or click this computer which will enter it automatically for you. Add the other computers that connect wirelessly to your Time Capsule (don't worry about ones that are wired) and then hit done. Now not only will other users have to know your password to get on your network but they also have to have a MAC Address that matches the ones that you listed (which means they either have to be one of your computers or have cloned one of your computer's MAC addresses, which is just one more layer of security).

  • HT4199 Every time I introduce the WPA2 passwords I can´t connect. I can only connect to open wi fi networks? Does anyone know why? Thanks

Every time I introduce the WPA2 passwords I can´t connect. I can only connect to open wi fi networks? Does anyone know why? Thanks

Some users with various Wi-Fi connection problems have reported that they were given the following instructions by Apple Support, sometimes with success. I can't vouch for this procedure myself. After completing the procedure, you'll have to recreate all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make sure you know how to do that before you begin. Taking screenshots of the preference pane may be helpful.
    Step 1
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 2
    Reset the System Management Controller

  • Can't connect to my home WiFi network

I'm using a linksys router and using WEP security. The iphone can see my network, but when I enter the password it tells me I can't connect. I can't seem to make the phone forget the network so that I can start over.
    Any help would be appreciated

I have the same problem. I can't connect to any password protected networks. I type in the correct password, but I'm unable to login. I don't have the option for the iphone to forget the network, because I've never been able to log in and therefore there is nothing to forget. The option doesn't even come up. Is anyone else having this problem? It is this way for 2 different networks.

    Hello,
I am unable to connect to any secure wifi network. Using iPhone 5, Model : MD300B/A, Software : 6.1.4 (10B350). Whenever I try to connect to any secure wifi network, it says password incorrect. But it connects fine with unsecured networks. Double checked the same secure networks with my iPad and it works fine. Tried reseting the network settings and all settings. Updated to latest firmware (6.1.4). Still not working.

  • Airport express connected to my existing network - Can I connect a device to the network through it's ethernet port?

Is it possible when my airport express is wirelessly connected to my existing network - to connect a device to the network through it's ethernet port or is it wireless only at that point?
I'm trying to connect my A/V Receiver in another room to my network without having to run a CAT5 cable all the way to the router.  I'd rather be able to connect it to my airport express if it will work that way.

Is it possible when my airport express is wirelessly connected to my existing network - to connect a device to the network through it's ethernet port or is it wireless only at that point?
    Yes.....IF
You have an AirPort Express 802.11"n" version configured to "join a wireless network" and you have enabled the option to "Enable Ethernet Clients"
    Or
You have an AirPort Express 802.11"n" configured to "extend a wireless network" from another Apple "n" router, in which case the Ethernet port is enabled by default

  • Airport Express connecting to an existing wired network

    Hello,
I'm trying to connect an Airport Express unit to an existing wired network, can someone please help me to set this up or what I need to do? I originally connected the ethernet cable from the device (airport express) to the switch it was on but it didn't work and the other computers were connecting to that network. Should I setup the Airport Express in Bridge Mode or will i need to fiddle around with the settings a bit?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Daniel

Not sure what the difficulty is here.
All you really need to do is connect the Express to the switch with an Ethernet connection, open AirPort Utility on your Windows machine, and click Continue to get the process going.
If you need to download and install AirPort Utility for the PC, it is here:
    AirPort Utility 5.6.1 for Windows
Select the "Create a wireless network" option, assign a device name and password to the Express, then assign a wireless network name and password for the wireless network that you want the Express to provide.
Select the Bridge Mode option when it appears and click Update to save the settings.
The Express will restart and you should have a green light on the Express.
Then, log on to that wireless network from the iPad.

  • Connected to the Airport Express' Network but Can't Find Express

I've recently been having some trouble with my network, which contains a modem connected to an Airport Express, with my iMac connecting wirelessly to that. My internet connection is getting dropped, and when I open up Airport Utility I can't see my Express. However, from the wireless indicator at the top-right of my screen, I am still connected to the Express' network. When I turn my iMac's Airport on and off, it reconnects to the Express' network (which is constantly at full-strength). I also can't ping the Express.
So, I'm connecting to the Express' network but I can't do anything. After a variable amount of time (5 seconds to half-an-hour), the Express will appear in my Airport Utilities once again and I can surf the net. Does anyone have any thoughts? Is there a way to ping any of the protected wireless-networks that are available, just to see if it's a problem on my iMac's end? Could my Express still be broadcasting its SSID but has shut-down it's networking capability because of an overheating issue?
    Thanks.
    - Matt
PS. My Airport Express is the 802.11n model.

You may need to re set the AE to factory specs and start all over. Read the manual on a factory re set. Start on page 41 and go through page 42.

  • Getting an Extreme to connect to existing Express network

I have a 4 node Express network with one node connected to the internet via a wired router and the other 3 as remotes. This works perfectly.
I've bought an Extreme node so I can connect a hard disk but no matter how I try I cannot get the Extreme to connect to the network. It either just dissapears with a flashing orange light and need to be reset or will appear in the node list of the Airport Utility but gives a WDS error saying it cant see the express nodes. It is configured as a remote rather than a relay. It is in range (same room 3 feet away - for the moment ) as the WDS Main so I'm a bit perplexed.
I've searhed on the Forums and one or two people seem to have similar issues - is this a known issue or am I getting something wrong?

If your current setup is using channel 12 or 13, try changing to use a channel between 1 and 11.
