Can't connect internet

After upgraded to maverick, I can't get internet via ethernet cable. The wireless is still working fine.  Does anyone have experience something like this?
Thanks.
Abel

After installed win7 on my mac pro(mid 2012/mountain lion), I can not connect internet and where can i find drivers in mountain lion system.
I donot think I have a install disk when I bought my mac, there is only a disc partition for recovery system.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You have to install Boot Camp drivers. On Mountain Lion, you have to download them.
First, press X key while your Mac is starting to start into OS X. Then, open Boot Camp Assistant and select the option to download the drivers. You will have to burn them into a DVD or USB drive, so after downloading them, restart and install them into Windows

  • Can't connect internet wirelessly with OSX 10.5.6

My G4 connected internet wirelessly with OSX 10.3.9. After I loaded OSX 10.5.6 my computer does not recognize nor connect wirelessly with my home network. It connects fine with ethernet. Please help.

I found the trouble was my base modem. My DSL carrier had to upgrade the software on the modem. This solved the problem.

Um okay. And? What have you done to try to fix it? What error messages are you getting? Do you use WiFi or Wired connection?

  • How can I connect Internet with my 10.4 PowerBook

How to connect my own Internet connection to my new PowerBook 10.4.8

Firstly update to 10.4.11 via Software Update, or download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site. If your car runs on gasoline you would not want to fill the tank with diesel, so don’t try to install the PPC updater on an Intel Mac or vice versa!
The 10.4.11 Combo Updater for PPC Macs is here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL170
And for Intel Macs here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL172
Then connect via ethernet to your router.

  • After update I can't connect to the internet in no way, shape or form

I rarely update because: 1) something always breaks when you update (like now) and 2) I don't like to deal with new crap like GNOME 3. Anyway:
I bought a new router (TL-WR1043N) and configured it with an old Ubuntu because connecting to 192.168.1.1 didn't work on any of my Arch Linux installations. Now... here's where it all starts... I can't use the 'n' wireless on my laptop since I have to install something to use WPA, and to install that I need to update, but I don't want to deal with GNOME 3 and Firefox >3. But I gave up eventually gave up and connected my laptop to the router by Ethernet cable. Setting that up was very easy: 'ifconfig eth0 up; dhcpcd'. Voila! I updated my whole system and restarted. To see how badly I damaged my system I opened Nautilus (I use Openbox with some GNOME programs): shock and dismay, the fonts are visible from the moon. I guess I'll have to quit using GNOME programs completely now but I expected that. I used to use KDE back in the day and when KDE4 came forth from that unholy pit, I immediately abandoned it for GNOME. This time we had more time to prepare, everybody knew what GNOME 3 was going to be. I started using Openbox quite a long time ago.
Anyway: Now to fix my wireless right? WRONG! I can't connect to the internet on cable to get the packages for wireless. I installed Windows 7 64 on the same laptop and it connects to the cable. Ubuntu 9.10 Live also connects, but due to the changes of rc.conf and network stuff I can't connect at all with Arch Linux.
So I decided to abandon it completely and reinstall from scratch. But the Live CD also doesn't work. With all the ways I've tried it all comes down to this:
dhcpcd always times out waiting for a carrier and 'ip addr' shows 'eth0: <NO-CARRIER, ....' if the interface is up. I'm not sure what information I should give you, but I can't paste any here since I can't connect to the damn internet on that laptop.
About the router: the cable is plugged on port 1 and the LED for it flashes if I reboot the computer. In Windows it stops flashing while it connects and flashes again when connected. I removed 'network' from DAEMONS and it flashes till I start it with '/etc/rc.d/network start'. This hangs for a while and returns '[DONE]' even though it doesn't work and the LED never flashes again on the router.
In rc.conf I have exactly what the example says for DHCP. In any case, it doesn't work with the Live CD either.
EDIT 1: From lscpi: painstakingly typed:
06:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection (rev 61)
07:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconducctor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 01)
EDIT 2: Just to be clear: I can use the wireless on the laptop on the Live CD, but I want to use the cable because of the greater speed (94Mbit/s on cable 60 something on wireless n, 20 something on g) and because I rarely move the laptop.
EDIT 3: lspci -v shows "Kernel driver in use: r8169   /   Kernel modules: r8169", so the driver is loaded.
EDIT 4: So if I boot from the CD. ip addr shows:
eth: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN qlen 1000
        link/ether 00:1d:92:...etc... brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
And  the LED flashes. When I type: "ifconfig eth0 up" it stops, never to light up again and ip addr shows: "eth: <nO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state DOWN qlen 1000

When you're in Arch, use output redirection
    lspci >lspci.out
then boot into Ubuntu or something where you can access the files and the BBS,  Of course, don't forget to use a new file for each command output.
The new network config in rc.conf is not that complicated (wired anyway; never used wireless).  OTOH I've had issues on two machines where I have to restart the network daemon (rc.d restart network) or rerun netcfg (netcfg eth0) after boot to get connectivity. And I still haven't come to grips with the ip command.

  • Users of Windows 7 Computers connected to Domain but can not get Internet Randomly

After crash of DC, I have replaced the domain controller server 2008 with another machine but with same name. I got trust relationship issue, which I resolved by disjoining and rejoining. After this I am facing below mentioned issue on computers randomly.
High Privileges users have no issue with internet access. Low privileges users can not access internet on workstations randomly. Users login properly, all group policy settings applied to them. but internet does not work with them using Internet Explorer
and Google Chrome. All pings work fine. I viewed the proxy settings by command line as proxy settings are disabled for low privileges users. It was correct but still internet was not working. While over Firefox by adding manually proxy(not set
    through group policy), internet works.
When I tried to login through a new user which has not logged in over affected machine. Internet works. After logging off by new user and logging on old users (already created profiles), internet starts working for them too. I am afraid may this trick does
    not work on other machines.
Now I want to know, if above mentioned trick does not work what should I do to activate the internet. What is the root cause of this issue.

    Hi,
Did you mean you set the same proxy, high privileges user could keep connection and low privileges user drop connection randomly? At the same time, Firefox also could keep connection, right?
Please try to reset Winsock and DNS for a test on problematic computer. Open command prompt with Administrator Previleges, then type the following commands.
    netsh int reset
    ipconfig /flushdns
Besides that, update the network driver for test.

  • Safari 5.1.1 can't connect to the internet.  Every other browser can.

I've tried resetting Safari, reinstalling Safari, and resetting my router to factory settings.  Safari still can't connect to the internet, but everything else on my Mac (Snow Leopard 10.6.8) can.
I recently tried setting up Open DNS just because I've had problems with Comcast lately.  But I've since returned DNS to be detected automatically.
    Thoughts?

  • Mac Book pro can't connect to Internet through Apple airport extreme base station

I had problems connecting to the internet in the past with my macbook pro.  One day it suddenly started working again but then I bought a second apple TV I lost connectivity.  I have tried changing the IP address manually and while it shows me connected to the wifi I am still with out internet.  When I hooked up the new Apple TV that I bought it booted my computer from it's ip address.  The apple TV though wouldn't work and now nor would my computer.  I ended up setting the Apple TV's ip address manually and now it works fine. My computer on the other hand does not no matter if I set it manually or not.  Even if I plug in the ethernet cable from the base station it doesn't work.  It show that it has a self assigned IP address.  After I set it manually it shows that I am connected both via wifi and the ethernet cable but I can't connect to the internet.  If I plug the modem directly into the computer bypassing the base station I get internet and it is using the IP address that worked originally.
It has something to do with the connection from the base station to my computer but this is odd considering every other device I have: iPhone 4, apple tv, apple tv, apple mini with retina display all work perfectly via wifi (newest apple tv had to be set manually as I stated above but now works fine).  When I check the ip of the base station itself it seems to be different from the ip of the computer when the computer was connected directly to the router.  I don't understand why my computer now can't connect to the internet via the base station whether it be wifi or by ethernet.  Can you please help me trouble shoot this?
I have an AirPort Extreme base station which allows up to 50 users and a 30 meg connection speed.
    I have a MacBook Pro (17-inch Early 2009), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

It has something to do with the connection from the base station to my computer
    I don't think so..
I just posted a reply which totally vanished.. strange strange website now.
Please post some screenshots of your AE setup from the airport utility.. I want to see the summary page, then the network and internet tab.
Please tell us what modem you use.. is it a router??
If you have satellite or 3G wimax etc service they often are limited to 5 IP addresses... the AE takes one and then 4 more devices can join .. no more.
You need to also give us the screenshot of the IP you are getting in a computer that works.
    EDIT
Sorry this is half double post.. the previous page refused to display.. now it has returned..

  • I can't connect to the internet

I just moved into my own place. Before I moved I was able to hook up to the cable modem at my parent's house through their ethernet router. Now I have tried to connect to the router, and nothing works.
I can't even plug the ethernet cable directly from the modem and get internet. I currently do NOT have a wireless modem, so it is not an option for me to just set up AirPort.
When we first got the internet working in my place, I was able to connect directly to the modem. Once I tried to set up a network through the router box, everything just stopped working. I guess something in my networking got screwed up, but I don't know what. I have taken the router out of the loop completely, but still nothing. I SEVERELY need help trying to figure out how to hook up my MacBook directly to the modem.
It seems when I run the network diagnostics or anything it won't find an IP address or anything! It says it's connected, but won't read an IP or anything.
I have Comcast Cable Internet and am using a Motorola s85120 Cable Modem. I know it's not the modem, because my fiance's computer has absolutely NO trouble connecting.
That's all I can think of for now.. If you need any more specifics, please let me know and I will do my best to answer.
If you have any suggestions about the router box in addition to just getting the internet to work, I'd be greatly appreciative. Thanks!!

Hi! You don't connect to someones wifi unless its allowed by them and you will need the security key ;unless you at a library or Mc Donalds and the wifi is unprotected. If you are paying for wifi and can't connect, call your ISP.
    Dokie!!
Ps the only reason i'm responding to your message is because I'm bored. How are you getting on this forum?? Is your wifi protected?? If it is you will need the key!
