Can't connect Iphone 4 to Home WIFI

I have tried just about everything to connect my Iphone 4 to my home WIFI. Short of getting a new router I have a Linksys Wireless G Router WRT54G. My security is a WPA security. Apple Expert at the Apple store told me to set up WPA2 but that is not compatible according to Linksys. We removed all security and still could not connect. My laptops work fine. My TIVO works fine. I am able to connect to other WIFIS like a neighbors whose is not secure and the WIFI at the Apple Store. Is there some type of setting in my router we are not setting correctly? Kind of frustrated and don't want to purchase a new router if we don't have to. Any help is appreciated.

Having a similar problem. My Linksys is a WRT54G2 v1.5. And it has worked fine in the past. But lately (I can't say exactly when it changed) my wi-fi connection on my iPhoene is terrible. The SPeedtest.net app consistantly gives me a ping in the 200 range, dowload speeds around 0.2 and upload speeds of 0.0 while I'm standing right next to it. All other devices and laptops connect fine and test at much higher speeds, and my phone connects fine everywhere else. Multiple resets of the router, the DSL modem and my iPhone have made no difference, nor has resetting all network settings on my iPhone. In fact I just did a complete restore to my iPhone 2 days ago, and the issue is unchanged.
And advise would be appreciated.

  • Can not connect to my home wifi suddenly

Suddenly I can not connect to my home wifi connection.  I have verified the password and I know that is correct.  Any suggestions?

Also, I can connect just fine from my iPad just not my iPhone4s.

  • Can't connect to my home WiFi network

I'm using a linksys router and using WEP security. The iphone can see my network, but when I enter the password it tells me I can't connect. I can't seem to make the phone forget the network so that I can start over.
    Any help would be appreciated

I have the same problem. I can't connect to any password protected networks. I type in the correct password, but I'm unable to login. I don't have the option for the iphone to forget the network, because I've never been able to log in and therefore there is nothing to forget. The option doesn't even come up. Is anyone else having this problem? It is this way for 2 different networks.

  • Trouble connecting iPhones to home wifi network

Hi, I posted this over in the Airport discussions a few days ago and have them stumped so they recommended I bring it over here.
I'm having all sorts of trouble trying to get my iPhone and iPad to connect to my new Airport Express. I know the network I set up is working because my iMac and Appletv work fine with it, so the trouble is finding out why the others won't connect. When I select my wifi network on the phone the circle starts spinning around while it tries to connect, but it just keeps going and going and never really connects.
I have tried resetting everything, renewing leases, forgetting networks and rejoining them, changed network name and password, all with no avail.
I used to have the old AE that plugged straight into the outlet (hardly ever had problems with it either until it broke, and all devices worked fine with it) and I just bought the latest AE with the cord and dual ports. It is currently running the latest 7.6.4 but I can only downgrade to 7.6.3 which it came with.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

And after updating your firmware did you restart your router, computer, and iPhone and try again?

  • Can not connect to my home wifi

I sometimes get this message when I am at home with wifi.
"Can not find WIFI *******.  And sometimes it connects for a minute and then drop WIFI connects.
I have also been other places and got the same message.

Also, I can connect just fine from my iPad just not my iPhone4s.

  • Can't connect Iphone 6  to wifi.

My iPhone 6+ (iOS 8.1.3) has suddenly dropped wifi and won't connect. I have checked the internet provider, shut off and turned on phone, gone through the Reset All Settings and Reset Network Settings to no avail. Device will not give me the option of "forget this network" under wifi setting. My only choice is "join network" after which I receive "incorrect password" message. The password is correct. Without wifi, I am unable to back up my data. Therefore I am reluctant to try the Erase All Content and Settings option as a last resort. Anybody have any other ideas? This is very frustrating!

First, make absolutely, positively sure that the password you are using is current (not a correct but old password) and entered correctly. Note that case is significant in passwords (i.e., a is not the same as A), and look out for look-alike characters (O vs 0, 1 vs l, etc.).
If all seems OK try restarting your WiFi router by removing power to it for 30 seconds.

  • My Ipod touch won't connect to my home wifi.

Its been a week since my ipod touch can't connect to my home wifi. When I open the wifi, it shows me other wifis around me but my own. I even try resetting network under the ipod setting. It connects to other wifi, such as my school's and starbucks. Once I go home it doesn't show or connect. My router is boardcasting the ssid. and its not blocking my ipod touch's mac address either. I tried everything! Resetting network and turning off my router and modem.

    - Try resetting the iPod. Nothing is lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts
and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults./new iPod

  • Has anyone had trouble connecting to their home wifi

I can't connect to my home wifi. When I type in the password I receive a "cannot connect...." message. Everything else is working so it's not a router issue.

I had this problem.  I restarted my router, unplug, wait about 2 minutes and plug it back in.  Wait a few minutes until router stablizes and gets latest IP data from your internet provider.
Go into Wifi, forget your network.,
Select your network and sign in if you need to use a password.  (You do use a password on your network don't you?)
Tap the blue arrow on your network in Wifi on the phone and set the proxy to Auto, not Off or Manual, unless you have a proxy setting you have set up on your network.
    This worked for me.

  • I can not join the my home WIFI network. I have iPhone and iTouch connected as well as my windows laptop. I have trie power on rese, and network reset

I can not join the my home WIFI network. I have iPhone and iTouch connected as well as my windows laptop. I have trie power on rese, and network reset. What do I do next?

This is something else you can try.
Go to Settings>WiFi>Your Network Name (tap the blue arrow)>Forget this Network. Reboot your iPad, hold down on the sleep button at the top for a couple of seconds until the red slider appears, slide to shut down. Then press the sleep button again until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button and the iPad will restart. Try to join your network again.

  • TS1702 My brand new iphone5 will not connect to my home wifi even though my ipad and old iphone do connect with no problem. What can I do?

My brand new iphone5 will not connect to my home wifi even though it recognizes it. My ipad and my old iphone4s connect with no problem. Any thoughts?

Although your other devices connect okay, it would be worth resetting your router by switching if off for disconnecting it from mains power for 2 minutes and then switch it on again.
Good luck and do report back.

  • My iPhone 5 will not automatically connect to my home wifi

My wifes iPhone 5 will not automatically connect to our home wifi, she has to log in each time (she has ios 6.1.4).  Mine, however will connect automatically with no issues (we have same phone and ios).  Here is what I have done so far to fix the issue and none have worked:
    * I have reboted (hold home button and sleep/wake button)
    * I have reset the network connections
    * I have turned "ask to join" on, connected to the network, turned wifi off and then back on, it did not connect to the wifi
    * I have manually connected to the network through the manual option, turned wifi off and then back on, it did not connect to the wifi
    * I have erased all content and data and resored the backup from iTunes
    * I have restored iPhone from iTunes and restored the backup from iTunes
My phone does not list a "forget this network" as an option on the wifi connection when I pull it up, so this is not an option.  So, what else is there to fix the issue?

    Hi there Huskerscott!
I have some information here that can help you troubleshoot this issue:
Unable to automatically connect to Wi-Fi
Avoid giving your Wi-Fi network a common name.
Some wireless routers are preconfigured with a common SSID (network name) such as "wireless" or "default."
If your desired Wi-Fi network has a common SSID, try changing the SSID to something unique2.
If your desired Wi-Fi network has a unique SSID, reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings including: previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords, recently used Bluetooth accessories, VPN and APN settings.

  • TS1398 After updating to ios 6 my iphone 4 would no longer connect to my home wifi. At work we have a free wifi connection that does not require a password. However my wifi at home is password protected. I have the right password. It works on my ipod touc

After updating my iphone 4 with the ios 6 update. My iphone would no longer connect to my home wifi that is password protected. I know that I have the right password entered in. At work we have a free wifi connection that does not require a password and I can connect no problem to it. My ipod touch has no problem connecting to my home wifi. It is a 3rd gen ipod and does not have the ios 6 update on it. Please help!

I'm having the same issues. Started when I upgraded iphone 4S and ipad1 to 5.1.1. Wife's iphone 4g on 4.4.2 has been ok. I've forgot the network on both devices and restored the iphone, none of which changed the issue. I've upgraded to ios 6 on the iphone 4s, problem still persists.
One thing that will help for a time: go to your router and change the wireless control channel. When I first did this I got full connectivity for about 48 hours... and now the problem is back. I'm now changing the wireless control channel every 12 hours, which is a pain but at least keeps me connected. I've tried a few other solutions that are out there and that has been the best one so far.
to do this on a motorola router: type 192.168.0.1 in your address bar.
username: admin and password:motorola if you have not changed the factory defaults.
Click on the word "wireless" and look for the "control channel" field. This may be set to auto or to 1, try changing it to 6 or 11 (preferred) or any other channel.
The control channel can cause static in the wireless system IF there are several networks nearby that are on the default setup.
There is a fair bit of buzz about this issue out there, some other things I've seen:
This is a hardware issue. Go to the store and have your wifi antenna checked, some users reporting that they get free replacement devices.
Check against other wifi networks that require a password (this is next for me). Logon to those networks and surf until your wifi stops. If your wifi connects to the internet but stops responding, then this is a software (or hardware) issue and apple needs to step up. Some are claiming this to be the case.
IF you connect and stay connected/on the internet on another password protected wifi, then the issue is with your router. this is where things get cute.
Comcast may tell you to update your firmware. Motorola may tell you that your cable provider is the only one who can push through firmware updates. Comcast may tell you that you are not in an area that is being updated. It's unclear if they say that to all customers, or just those who have purchased cable modems and aren't renting them from comcast.
Good luck, more to come if I figure out anything else, and please post any solutions you may find.

  • Imac will only connect to my home wifi via ISP hotspot. All other devices are fine (iphone, ipad etc). its driving me nuts!

My imac (2 yrs old) will not connect to my home wifi with the exception of my ISP hotspot. All other devices are fine (iphone, ipad etc). I have changed my ISP recently and this issue has never happened before. I am with my current ISP for about 7 weeks and this was not an issue for the first 2/3 weeks. Went through the usual set up procedures but alas...nothing. Message states unable to join network! Don't think it is an ISP issue as all other devices work perfect...or is it? As I said It did work at the start, but no longer. I recently moved to NJ from Ireland, so my imac is a European model (don't think that makes a difference?) I can only presume it is the settings on the imac. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thx

Hi - out of action for a few days. To answer your questions:
    - and click on Advanced and make sure everything is correct - all in order
    - Also check on your router's website to make sure the iMac is recognized there - it IS NOT recognized here as other devices are
    - do you by chance have your router set up to do Mac filtering? - i don't know..how do I check?
    Thx

  • Can I connect to both TC wifi and home wifi at same time?

I don't see this listed anywhere and I assume the answer is "no." But here goes...
I would like me TC to be on a separate wifi for all my apple devices in the home for backups only. I have about 5 devices including 2 ipads and 1 iphone. Then allow those same devices to connect to the home wifi for surfing. Basically, I want Time Machine to access one network/password and my browsers another network/password. Of course, I want this to happen automatically and not by selecting the TC network each time I want to backup and then switching to the other when surfing.
I know I could connect to my router via hardwire, but was hoping I didn't have to do that.
    Thanks

Thanks... I assume I could switch back and forth between networks if I really wanted them to be on separate networks?
If you cannot run ethernet.. see if homeplug (ethernet over power) adapters might work for you.. when they work they can work very well.
You can also add a wireless bridge between the main modem and the TC.. but for this to work it must be another apple router. eg express or a cheap second hand extreme can work nicely.
Let me say you will very quickly get tired of switching.. whatever you are on,, you will want the other.. start the network design right.
Indeed, both Bob and I will tell you, if at all possible run ethernet.. do it properly in the wall.. get a data cabler in if you are not up to the job.. yes it is expensive.. and once it is done.. it will work properly forever more.. no other solution works as fast.. is reliable and is hassle free.

  • My iPhone 5 is suddenly unable to connect to my home wifi

    Hi,
Please can you help. My iPhone 5 has suddenly stopped being able to connect to my home wifi, unless I am standing right next to the rooter. If I take it into another room my iPhone 5 won't connect, it is able to see the network, but says unable to connect. My iPhone 4 and ipad is able to connect in all other rooms in the house still , where my 5 used to be able to connect. How can I fix this, it is clearly the phone an not the wifi.
    I have already-
    Restarted the phone,
    Reset the phone
    Reset the phone network settings
    Reset the rooter
    Thanks

This is the exact same issue i am having. I just posted a question a minute ago. I wonder what is happening??
