Can't connect iphone 5 to ipad 3 by bluetooth for hotspot

I have an iPad 3 4G and an iPhone 5. Both data plans allow me to use personal hotspot, and depending upon which carrier has the better signal, I used to be able to use the other devices data plan.
Recently (since updating to IOS 6.0.1) I can no longer connect the iphone to the ipad- which is a real pain as I get a much bigger data allowance on the ipad than i do on the iphone!
I have restored the iphone and it's no better. When I am searching for the ipad, the iphone doesnt detect it. If I search for the iphone from the ipad, I can see the iphone. When I select the iphone from the ipad- to pair them, the ipad becomes visible on the iphone. It works occasionally, allowing me to use the iphone's hotspot but not the other way around.
Also, the iPhone doesn't show the names of all of my devices in the menu, it shows the MAC addresses- only my laptop shows as it's name, whereas my handsfree or bluetooth speaker just show their addresses.
Hope this all makes sense, any ideas?????

Other than for tethering, BT to computer is not supported.

Can i connect to another ipad using bluetooth?

Depending on what you want to do, the answer may be yes, or no.
If you explain what it is you want to accomplish we may be able to provide a more accurate answer.
Just now that the iPad does not support file transfer over bluetooth directly. Though there are some Apps in the App store that make this possible over different mediums.

  • I have just updated my Mac but can't connect iPhone and Ipad

Why cant I connect my iPhone and Ipad to my mac via bluetooth??

    This worked for me:
1 Go to the finder menu bar at the top of the screen
    2Click go
    3 click applications
4 go down to iTunes and right click on Show Package Contents
5 open contents folder then go to mac os folder
6 open the terminal marked iTunes in that folder
This should force it to open and function enough, it will not allow importing of music from a desk top

  • Can you connect iPhone and iPad to iTunes at same time?

Just received my new iPad2 and it will not show up in iTunes. I have my iPhone connected for a long time, but even if I disconnect it the iPad does not show up.
    Any Ideas?

What if you manually quit iTunes?
I can see why iTunes would not want you to try to sync two devices at the same time, but I don't see why both can't be attached. I guess that's just how they designed it. Probabaly makes sense. But if you quit out of iTunes (and iPhoto if that's running too), then I bet both devices would take a charge at the same time.
By the way, I set my iPhone and iPad to NOT sync automatically - so they don't cause iTunes to launch when attached.

  • Can not pair iPhone with iPad via bluetooth

I have been reset network and all setting but it still be the same. Now I updated iOS 8.1.1 to both device but Bluetooth can not find each other and pair them. How can I do?

Bluetooth is not supported for file transfer
    You can pair to tether.
    You have to use USB

  • Connecting iphone to ipad via bluetooth

For some reason my iPad won't recognise my iphone while it looks for devices with bluetooth. A couple of my friends have already successfully paired their devices to my ipad. Is there something wrong with my phone or am I missing something? Please help me out with any information, just trying to sort this out asap so I can play the scrabble application I just downloaded. Both my ipad and iphone had bluetooth on when I tried to pair them.
    Thank you

Tethering is something completly different. That same support article also says that you can use Peer to Peer bluetooth connections for applications. I also found an application that allows you to send files via bluetooth from my iphone to another or ipod touch or ipad. It is call BlueWaves. Tethering would in theory allow you to connect your iPhone to your iPad and use the internet from the iPhone on the iPad. Apple would not allow this because they have a 3G model coming out. Plus the iPhone is capable of internet tethering but ATT has blocked it from the phones until their network becomes more stable. I hope the information and that application help you accomplish what you would like to.
    Thanks

  • Can I connect iPhone to iPad for direct backup and download?

I am a Windows 7/64 user. I have an iPhone 4 and am thinking of buying an iPad, cheaper than a whole new Mac. I regarded the iPad as a small computer, and thought that one might use it to make backups of the iPhone and download eg films or other stuff from it. Now a friend told me that it is not even possible to connect the two devices to one another and that any interaction between the two would have to go through a computer. So what is the use of the iPad, when it is no more than a heavy and clumsy iPhone?

I do not fully understand all of the ins and outs of iCloud either. I use iCloud in very "limited doses".  The greatest feature of iCloud - IMO - is that you can download purchased content again at no charge as long as you use the same Apple ID. There are some limitations based on where you live - but in the U.S - all of this is available to you.
I also use iCloud to back up my Pages documents and currently only the Apple iWorks suite of apps, pages, Numbers and Keynote, can make use of this feature of iCloud - As far as I know.  The changes that I make on the documents will sync to my iPod Touch and I can download the documents from my iCloud.com account in order to work on them on my Mac. Revise them on the Mac, upload to my account again - and they appear on the iPad and the Touch with revisions in place.
iCloud is still in its infancy, and even if it was "foolproof" or as foolproof as anything can be, I would never count on the cloud only to store my important files. I still backup to iTunes on my Mac and I backup my Mac with Time Machine. The use of iTunes is simply the vehicle through which all of your purchased content can be transferred to your computer for safe keeping. iTunes will store your media, apps and photos - and the backup process using iTunes - provides a way to save your settings, app data, camera roll photos, bookmarks, - in essence - the "stuff" that your apps produce - if that makes sense to you.
Read this to learn more about iCloud. This is covers everything from soup to nuts. The articles contain links to other articles with more information as well. You may even want to peruse the iCloud forum for more information.

  • Can't connect iPhone or iPad to Airport Extreme

I just got a new modem/wireless router from AT&T U-Verse (it's a 2Wire 020). I needed to extend the range, since the signal doesn't reach to one part of the house. I set my Airport Extreme up as a bridge, and it's working perfectly – in fact, I'm using it right now with my MacBook Pro.
My problem is that it won't let me connect any iOS device to the Airport Extreme. I've tried an iPhone and also an iPad, but none of them will connect, even though they will connect to the 2Wire router.
If anyone has any ideas, that would be great.
    Thanks.

Ok, thanks for clarifying that they are interconnected by Ethernet. I just wanted to be sure.
If you haven't done so already, I would recommend that you perform a complete power recycle of your networking equipment whenever you add or change items.
    Please try the following:
Power-down the gateway, AEBS, and computer(s); wait at least 10-15 minutes. Note: Power-down order is not critical.
Power-up the gateway; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
Power-up the AEBS; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    Power-up the computer(s).
Network clients, connected by either wire or wireless to the AEBS should now be able to gain access to the Internet via the gateway. Please post back your results.

I can't connect to wifi network and bluetooth on iPhone 4S.  Need help.  Have already rebooted everything and reset network setting

I have the same problem; tried a phone restore, both restoring data and setting up as new phone with factory settings, reset all settings, re-boot, remove apostrophe, put in fridge, you name it!
I think there's quite a few iphone 4s users with the same problem!
I called Apple they said it's a hardware problem, but it has worked for nearly two years; they say go to the Apple store and they can provide a replacement phone for approx. £150!
I've been into the O2 shop where I bought it and they knew the problem exactly; said they had sent a few phones off for repair and had them back awith a report they cannot fix it because it's a software problem!
An assistant in the shop had the same issues; logic says it's a software problem and hopefully Apple will fix it with a patch but at the moment they seem to be avoiding everyones comments!
If anyone else has any ideas these would be appreciated?

Did you mean Bluetooth? One. Did you mean FM or infrared, driven from the 3.5mm output jack? Any number of them, assuming you use the same frequency to receive the stream.

  • I cannot pair my Macbook Air (Yosemite) with my iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth.

I cannot pair my Macbook Air (Yosemite) with my iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth. It is recognising the devices but 'connection unsuccessful'

That is correct.  Macs do not pair to iPhones, iPads, etc.
However, pairlng is not required to get Handoff to work.  Both devices must have Bluetooth on, but they need not (indeed cannot) be paired.
OS X Yosemite: Pick up where you left off with Handoff
You must be using supported devices:
OS X Yosemite: supported devices for Handoff, Instant Hotspot, Phone Calling, SMS, and AirDrop
