Can't connect Macbook Pro to TV with HDMI

I have a Macbook Pro (osx Lion) and I can not connect it to my tv. I am using a mini display port to HDMI adapter to connect to my Insignia TV. Whenever I connect it the screen on my laptop goes blue for a second but nothing shows up on the TV. When I check for displays nothing happens and the TV says no signal. I have tried using other cords and have had the same result. When I try to use the same cord and adapter on a different TV it works just fine. The TV model is an Insignia LCD TV NS-L22Q-10A. Please help, I have tried various methods and still can not get it to work.

Hello Alley-cat,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
I found an article to assist with troubleshooting external displays connected to your mac that should prove helpful.
Named Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays you can find it here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1573.
No video or no signal, image distortion, "snow," or flickering
Check connections
When using an external display be sure to check the following:
If you're using an Apple notebook, confirm the AC power cable or adapter is securely connected to the computer and the cable providing power to the display is also secure. It is always good to have your notebook connected to AC power when an external display is in use.
Confirm display adapters are fully seated in their respective connections and that they are supported models and for the computer and display. Refer to these articles to assist you with adapter compatibility and further configuration information:
Monitor and Display Adapter Table
About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters
Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Remove all display cable extenders, KVM switches, or other like devices and retest to determine if the issue is resolved.
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.Reset the resolutionStart by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
Restart your computer.
All the very best,
Sterling

Can't connect macbook pro to internet with airport extreme

If you have ethernet still on your MBP plug it in by ethernet and tell me if that works.
Tell me how the Airport is setup.. what broadband modem and router you have.
What OS on the laptop? Yosemite I guess.. since it is the most troublesome.
Did it work before whatever change was made? Has it worked in the past? When did it stop and what did you do that coincided with it stopping?
    Upgrade to Yosemite??

  • Can a New MacBook Pro that comes with 10.7 run 10.6?

Well its been a long time visiting the discussions for me, just after the new format, and I still hate it and it does seem painfully slow, but have a question. Now to figure out How to Post it.
Can a New MacBook Pro that comes with 10.7 run 10.6 ? Hate losing Rosetta. Whoops, search came up with this.
Actually you can, at this time, downgrade the new MBPs to SL if you have the correct version od SL. You need at least 10.6.7 for it to work on the current run of MBPs. Once they come out with a newer, 2012, MBPs I have no idea if SL could be installed.
    Guess I better hurry.
Anyone disagree? It use to be you would get a msg saying No. But from looking I see some places in the states selling them with 10.6 installed and a free upgrade to 10.7. Not that option here.
So where is that enter key to post

Really I don't lie and I am getting tired of people calling me a lier.
    Thanks.
I'm reluctant to wade into this but I noticed that if Mactracker is to be believed, the Early and Late MacBook Pro have the same Model Identifier, which would suggest that the SL installer for the Early MBP might see the Late MBP, which came with Lion, as close enough for government work. While the SL installer wouldn't necessarily be 100% suitable for the Lion Machine and probably wouldn't allow installing over the existing Lion partition, I can imagine it working on a clean partition or external USB or Firewire drive. A 10.6.8 combo updater could then configure the SL installation for the MBP it's actually on.

  • How can I connect my 3gen apple tv with HDMI to my bush LCD32TV022HD which does not have an HDMI port but does have 1)S-Video I/P, 2)Video I/P, 3) L

How can I connect my 3gen apple tv with HDMI to my BUSH LCD32TV022HD
This does not have an HDMI port but does have:-
    1) S-Video I/P,
    2) Video I/P,
    3) Audio Input (Left & Right)
    4) Audio In jack (for VGA and DVI source)
    5) DVI input
    6) VGA input

    Welcome to the Apple community.
The Apple TV doesn't officially support a DVI connection, however you may be able to get it to work. You will first need to check that your TV supports either 720p or 1080p as well as HDCP. If you are able to get the video working over the DVI connection, you may also require a DAC in order to connect with Apple TV's optical audio output to the TVs audio imput.
You may well wish to make sure that the DVI connection works before spending any money on a DAC..

  • Can not connect Macbook Pro to IPhone 6 Plus via bluetooth.

I have a MacBook pro late 2011 with Yosemite 10.10.1 and bluetooth ver. 2.1 EDR. I can not connect my IPhone 6 Plus Ver. 8.1 via bluetooth.  I can see the the iPhone 6 on my MacBook and MacBook on IPhone 6, and can select connect but the iPhone 6 has error message MacBook Pro is not supported.  I am guessing that the issue is with the bluetooth versions, but not sure.  Any idea would be greatly appreciated.

And what is it you want to accomplish?   iPhones cannot pair with Computers  (Mac or Pc).
If you want to use features such as Continuity, or Handoff, pairing is not necessary.  However you would need a newer MacBook for those features.
iPhones can pair with speakers, keyboards, headsets, hands free devices, in car media centers etc...
But there's no profile for connecting to a computer directly.

  • Can I use macbook pro install Disk with macbook?

    Hi everyone,
I have a macbook and macbook pro, I had to reinstall system after harddrive went on the macbook. I can't find my macbook restore disks/installation disks. Would I be able to use the macbook pro install disks with macbook?
    Much appreciate your help.
    Mo

It might work but it's risky. The MBP installation disks may well not contain the right drivers for the MacBook. It would be better, if at all possible, if you contacted Apple tech support and asked for a new set of disks for your MacBook. They'll send you a set for a reasonable fee. If you can't wait, perhaps there's an Apple Store or other Apple dealer near you that would have a set you could borrow in-store to do the reinstallation.

  • How can i connect macbook pro with iphone 4 via bluetooth?

I`ve connected iphone with macbook pro few weeks ago for i-net surfing, but i had to use cable. Now i wanna try icloud, and i`ve faced that trouble. My mbp sees iphone, makes pair, but fails to connect it. If i try it with iphone, a message "mbp cant be connected, it isn`t connectible device"-something like this- appears and mbp disappears from known devices list. How can i solve that?

I have somehow the same problem. I just bought the new iPhone 4S and tried to connect it to my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.6, latest version, model 2011). The Phone did not see the Mac but the Mac the Phone, so I connected the Phone via Mac.
It worked for about 5 seconds, but then I got this error message:
It's German and means that the network is not available.
Of course I tried again to connect, but I now get always this error:
It says that the device is not available...
I deleted the iPhone from the list under Mac and tried again, but it's still the same.
No my Questions to the community:
Why does the iPhone not see the MacBook?
    Why does it allways disconnect?
Is Sync not possible via Bluetooth?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Can't connect macbook pro to my tv.

I have problems connecting my macbook pro to my tv. the tv is already quite old, so it has only two scart ports and a rca(
RCA Plugs for composite video (yellow) and stereo audio (white and red)), s-video port.
the cables i bought are as following:
    1. mini display port --> dvi-d
    2. dvi-d --> dvi-i
    3. dvi-i --> RCA component RGB (red, green, blue)
this  "RCA component RGB (red, green, blue)" cable doesn't work with my tv which only has the RCA(yello, red, white).
So i'm thinking about buying an adapter for "rgb(red, green, blue) --> scart".
does any of you know if this could work. i thought as all the cables fit together it should work, but i really do not know so much about video connections. so maybe my cables do not work together as i think they should

  • Can't connect Macbook Pro Retina to Dell P2715q 4k Monitor

I received a new Dell 4k P2715q monitor on Friday.  It came with a mini DP to DP cable which I immediately hooked into the Thunderbolt port on my 15-inch, Mid 2012 Macbook Pro Retina.  It worked beautifully on Friday all through the day.  Was very happy with my purchase.
Took the laptop home over the weekend and brought it back today.... plugged into my thunderbolt port again and nothing.... Go HDMI to the monitor's HDMI and it works but only up to 1080p in 30hz which is no good.  So the monitor still seems to be working but the Macbook won't recognize the monitor through the Thunderbolt (mini DP) port.
Any thoughts?  Talked to Dell support which was worthless except to verify that the monitor didn't get fried over the weekend and also talked to Apple who suspected that it was maybe the mini DP cord that Dell sent with the monitor.  I can't believe that a cable went faulty over a weekend when no one else was in my office.....
    Thoughts?  Thanks ahead of time!

  • Can't connect MacBook Pro to wifi

I am now attempting to post this problem for the third time -suffice to say that my satisfaction with apple is plummeting like a stone!!!
Cannot get new MacBook Pro to connect reliably to wifi at home. All other devices connecting in same location in house with no problem at all so have eliminated problems with physical location of router, which is also relatively new.  Tried to run network diagnostics but refuses to run when problem occurs.  Restarting router clears problem but it reoccurs within ten minutes, also, restarting MacBook clears it but then reoccurs in ten minutes.
***now 4th attempt as boards keep rejecting this message.

Just in case anyone comes by this thread looking for answers, I found out what the problem was: channel interference on my Virginmedia router. The day after I took my macbook to be checked out all my other devices started to have similar problems and after a crash self-taught cause in wifi network technology I changed the channel my router was operating on from one which was very crowded to one which has very little competition on it. Problem solved for all remaining devices, then the macbook came home and has worked like a dream ever since.
I downloaded an app called inSSIDer from the app store, website for info here: http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider-for-mac/
which shows you which channels all your local users are using so you can pick a quieter spot on the airwaves - I found some good instructions for how to do this on the Virginmedia website, but you would have to find how your router works.
I think, but I can't be sure, that the problem started over the last couple of months because some new BT WIFI services arrived in the area - they seem to keep popping up in my list of available wifi services all of a sudden and I don't remember them being there before - but I could be wrong.

  • Can't connect macbook pro to samsung ue46d8005?

    Hi,
I just received my new Macbook Pro 13" since my old MBP from 2010 was stolen.
I'm trying to connect it with my new led-tv Samsung ue46d8005.
I have a mini-display to hdmi adapter and from there a hdmi cable hooked up to the tv. But no matter how I do the tv or the MBP doesn't recognize each other. I have scrolled through the entire internet for a solution and tried several tips from people.
The adapter and hdmi cable worked just fine with my old MBP and panasonic tv so there's nothing wrong with it.
I've tried all the four different HDMI inputs.
I've tried to rename the "label" of the HDMI to PC/DVI.
I've tried to shut down the tv and MBP, and then start them up at the same time.
But there's no luck with anything!
What I've learned from googling around is that Samsung and Macs seem to have problem connecting with each other.
Today I took my computer and the adapter to my friend's house. There we connected it to his Sharp lcd and it worked just fine! But it just won't work with my samsung tv!
But please, is there anyone out there who can help me?
    / Ted

The mirror setting appears in the 'Arrangement' tab in the Displays preference pane once the two devices are communicating, so the Samsung support person was not being particularly helpful.  Besides, I would recommend against using mirroring as it forces the TV to operate at the resolution of the MBP and not at it's native resolution thereby compromising image quality.  Extended desktop mode with an external display ensures that the TV will use its full native resolution of 1080p (or 1920x1080) and also gives you the flexibility of having two screens with different applications visible on each.
Interesting that you've found that it doesn't work with a second Samsung TV!  I guess that means suspicion now falls on the MBP.  Like I said earlier, I'm not aware of any incompatibility and mine worked first time!!!  I'm busy at the mo' but I'll have a bit of an investigation later and see if I can turn anything up and get back to you.
By the way, did you try resetting the PRAM and the SMC?  It's especially worth a try now that suspicion lies with the MBP.

  • Can't connect Macbook Pro To TV

    Hello,
I am trying to hook up my Macbook Pro 2010 middle (2.4GH Intel Core 2 Duo) OS 10.9 Maverick with my

TV nothing happens - TV says no signal and Mac does not recognize any external display. On my second
TV by LG everything works smooth with the same cable and same reduction (tried different cables as well).
When I connect my Lenovo laptop to the Bush TV everything goes without problem. I tried to change screen

  • Can't Connect MacBook Pro and Mac Pro

I have a MacBook Pro (pre 2008 - dual core) running OS X 10.6.7 and I regularly connect it to the Mac Pro at my work (also running OS X 10.6.7). I've had no problems until recently. Now, when I try to connect, I get the following message:
"The server "name of my MacBook Pro" may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
Sometimes I click the icon to connect, the computer tries for a minute or so to connect, then it disappears from the shared list.
This happens whether I try to connect from either computer to the other one.
    Ideas? Suggestions?
    This is frustrating.

I'm still having problems with connecting my MacBook Pro with my Mac Pro. Both are running Snow Leopard (10.6.7). I have tried repairing permissions and toggling settings in my Sharing, but no luck. I'm still getting "The server "name of my MacBook Pro" may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
    Anyone have any other suggestions?
