Can't connect my HDDVR or blue ray

My external devices like my blue ray player and direct tv HDDVR see my AirPort Extreme network but can't join the network.  My computers and multiple i devices connect without problem.

Per chance do both your Blu-ray player and Direct TV HDDVR require that your network support WPS? If so, the AirPort Extreme only offer a very simple version of WPS and I am only aware that it works with very limited non-Apple equipment.
If you temporarily disable wireless encryption, can these devices connect now?

Yes you can do this. Connect your Mini to your wireless and plug in the ethernet to your Blu-Ray player. Go to System Preferences> Sharing and select the Internet Sharing box. Select Airport from the drop down menu in Share your connection from. Select Ethernet under the To computers using and make sure that the internet sharing box is clicked. You're now all set!

  • Best way to watch Netflix? Ipad 3 or direct connect to Panny ready blu-ray?

    I am researching the best way to stream Netflix?  Here is what I have;
    Brand new iPad 3
Pioneer VSX-1120 which has both HDMI inputs and a iPad USB/rca input.
Panasonic DMP-BDT1-- Blu-Ray with Netflix ready, (has ability to connect to Internet via Ethernet or wirless adapter)
Panasonic TC-P58VT25 full 3d HDTV with HDMI and Ethernet inputs.
    Westell 7500 wireless router
    What are your suggestions?
Download Netflix on iPad and connect to Pioneer receiver  This would stream wireless from the router to iPad  Then wired from iPad to receiver???
Just connect the Blu-Ray player or TV to the Router with Ethernet?  No wireless involved.
    Help...???

I would go Ethernet (assuming it is not a problem running the cable), and allow your Blu-Ray player do the work.  That way your WiFi bandwidth for in hone computer-to-computer Data transfers is not affected, and any such in home transfers do not affect your Netflix viewing.  Also if you have any WiFi interference it will not affect your Netflix viewing.
This would leave your iPad free to play with during the movie :-)
I would use the iPad to browse and select Netflix movies putting them in your "Instant Queue", so you can easily start watching form the Blu-Ray player.  Chances are the Blu-Ray player's user interface is not very user friendly :-)
You can still download Netflix to your iPad, and watch movies directly on your iPad when you do not want to sit in front of your TV (such as when you are away from home, or someone else is using the TV).
This is more or less the setup I use, only I have an internet capable TV with Netflex built in. I had the option of Ethernet or WiFi, and went Ethernet, for all the reasons above, especally since browsing Netflix via the TV interface is a pain, but selecting a movie already in my Netflix Instant Queue was easy. And I still watch a movie on my iOS device, if that is more convent.
If the Blu-Ray Netflx experence is not as good as using the iPad, or if there is extra expensive equipment to buy, or getting Ethernet to the TV location is a problem, them adjust your setup accordingly.

  • How do i connect airport express to blue ray player

wondering if i can connect airport express to blue ray player using usb for streaming, etc?

Good question. The single port on the AirPort Express places it somewhat at a disadvantage in a situation like this. It's tempting to think that a setup like this will work:
Modem > Ethernet Switch > Express & Blu-Ray Player both connected to the switch
But, unfortunately, it won't. The reason is that the modem has only one IP address it can deliver and it can't go to two devices at the same time. It will be matter of chance as to which device...the Express or Blu-Ray Player....gets the IP address. The other device will not be able to connect to the Internet.
Instead, what is required is a simple "wired only" router connected to the modem. So the corrrect setup will look like this:
Modem > Wired Only Router > Express and Blu-Ray Player both connected to the router
The router "shares" the IP address that it receives from the modem (an ethernet switch cannot do this) and provides simultaneous Internet connections to the devices that are plugged into the ethernet ports on the router.

  • 2008 Mac Pro keeps losing connection to my Plex Blu-ray burner

my 2008 Mac Pro keeps losing connection to my Plex Blu-ray burner.  It is installed in the second optical drive bay.  If I power down, pull the connections to the drive and re-attach, the drive is again recognized on boot.  A day later, no drive found.  The first optical (top bay) drive never loses connection.  Any thoughts?

Disable drive sleep in the Energy Saver system preference.

  • Can Final Cut Studio 2 make Blu-Ray DVDs

I have Final Cut Studio 2 on a mac book pro. I am not sure whether this topic belongs in compressor or dvd studio, but does the HD DVD mean it is HD DVD Format or a DVD that is high definition. So, in other words, can I do Blu-Ray also.

DVD Studio Pro 4.2 (in Final Cut Studio 2) has not yet had an update that allows creating and burning a blu-ray project.
You can create a basic HD DVD (yes it is a format) project and burn to a normal Standard Definition (red laser) DVD.
This plays on Mac computers only and certain Toshiba HD DVD set top players.
(see here for the "how to" )
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4436223&#4436223
We're stilll waiting for Apple to update DVD Studio Pro to enable blu-ray support.
So, no, you can't make blu-ray video projects on your MacBook Pro...yet.
You can only burn data discs should you buy a blu-ray burner.
For a closer examination of what's similar, and what's different between the two fomats, have a look here:

  • Can't burn a project to blu-ray using FCPX

I just completed an extensive project on FCPX and can't seem to burn it to an external blu-ray drive (sony VBD-MA1). The project was recorded in AVCHD from my sony camera. The iMac recognizes the blu-ray and it gets about half way through the processing before it gets stuck on 48% completed. Am I missing a step? Do I need additional software to be able to burn the project? The guy at the apple store said I could burn a project straight to a blu-ray without addtional software. Any advice would be appreciated.

Sorry I was mistaken and thinking of my last project that was edited on FCP6 but burned with iDVD.
In DVD Studio Pro you would have to Burn then .img the disc.
In iDVD you can Save As Disc Image. It sounds like this function is in FCPX from Ryan Scott's post and just confirmed in the Online manual:
    http://help.apple.com/finalcutpro/mac/10.0/#ver1ff8b381
Depending on the length of your project, disc being used and what size (1/2 layer) could also cause a problem. Only general sticking points I can come across would be corrupt data (clip/song/font) that is hit at a certain point of the project.

  • Can I re burn a rewritable blue ray disc that has been burnt on?

I am using FCP X and using a panasonic blue ray burner to burn my products. When I use Verbatim Rewritable Blue Ray discs, the first time used....no problem with a great result. When I try to reuse same disc, mac does not recognize burnt disc so does not ask me to reformat disc so it can be reburnt. Is their a way around this? I also have Compressor 4 running if this helps? Thanks

    I'm using a Pioneer BDR-206D.
    Firmware version: 1.56
I have burned and re-burned Verbatim BD-RE 25 GB 2X discs. Although I think all the times I used these discs was in FCP X for viewing/testing. I don't think I tried them with Compressor.
I have burned BD-R 6X discs with FCP X, Compressor, Encore and Toast with no issues. While Encore burned 6X BD-R discs at 2X, Toast burned the 6X discs at 6X.
The only issue I ran into with this drive was with some Lightscribe discs. Which at the time I didn't even realize they were Lightscribe. The Pioneer drive would not even recognize these disc. They were DVD I believe.
I simple installed the Pioneer drive and used it.
    I'm running Lion 10.7.2.

  • Can't play digital copy from blu-ray titles on iTunes 9.0.2.25?

I tried to download and watch the digital copy of Star Trek that is included with my Blu-ray. It prompted me to enter my authorization code then had me log into the iTunes store. It seemed to download the movie fine (the download progress bar filled). When I tried to play the movie, it just brought up a gray window with no picture or audio. The progress bar and time indicator seemed to progress properly. The chapter selection menu showed the correct thumbnail pics. But there was only the gray screen with the control panel buttons on the bottom.
Trying to sync with my iTouch told me it was not copied to my iTouch because I am not authorized to play it on this computer?
I tried the same with Wathchmen with the same results. I was able to view the movie fine with the Windows Media version of the digital copy.
I'm running Windows XP Pro. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks.

I use the 32-bit version but noticed the same behavior. I found that if I started iTunes from the Start Menu I could right-click the icon on the Taskbar and selected Pin to Taskbar. Worked perfectly with full Win7 integration.
As you know, the pin function prior to 9.0.2.25, allowed pinning from a shortcut. I've found other anomalies also so I wouldn't be surprised if a newer update will be pushed out soon.

  • Can DVDSP AUTHOR AND BURN a Blu-ray disk?

I am confused. I have read 14,102 posts on this subject and I am no more knowledgeable on this subject than before I started. The date right now is Sept. 7, 2009. The posts I read start at the current date and very quickly go back to Jan, 1 1945. I need CURRENT INFORMATION. I am under the impression from talking to the people at the MAC stores that I CAN author and burn a BD disk JUST like a DVD disk. I dont want a 10,000 step solution with 45 different pieces of software.
I want to use FCP and DVDSP. Is this possible at the date of Sept 7, 2009?
(dont look at the profile, I will upgrade to whatever is needed, MAC , that is)
    Thanks

    DVDSP...no.
    FCP 7...yes.
