Can't Connect OD Replicas to Master anymore

I was running an OD Master with 2 Replicas fine for quite some time, all running Server 10.4.6. I needed to change the IP address on one of the Replicas, changed the ip address in the Network pane, then ran the changeip script, but the next time the replica synced with the Master, it brought down OD on the Master.
Attempts to log in to the Master with Workgroup Manager failed with a -14002 error. I mistakenly thought that I had corrupted the Master and Replica as this error reoccurred after reboot (unfortunately I later discovered that I probably just had to run slapconfig -startldapserver and everything probably would have been fine) and in the interest of changing one of my Replicas into a Master (so I didn't lose all my user data), I demoted the original Master to Standalone, promoted the remaining/intact Replica to Master, attempted to replicate from the "new" Master and brought down the remaining [promoted] Replica in a similar manner.
I demoted all servers to Standalone, re-promoted my original Master to Master, re-imported my user/group/computer data into Workgroup Manager on the Master, then demoted the original replicas to Standalone, re-promtoted them to Replica, then tried to connect to the Master and encountered the same problem (Replica would get part way through the replication process, specifically around the point where it shuts down the LDAP master, and the server would automatically be kicked down to Standalone status).
I assumed that the original Replica whose IP address I had changed may be causing the problem, so I reformatted it with a clean copy of Server, promoted it to Replica and tried to connect with the Master, and had exactly the same problem.
So, I am unable to connect Replicas to my original Master. The Master operates fine by itself, and I have now promoted the Replicas to Masters to host their local user data, which also works fine. I would however like to convert these back to Replicas so I don't have to manage 3 sets of user data.
Not being a UNIX guru, my assumption is that there are some lingering replication config/data files on the original Master that are preventing Replicas from being connected. I have removed /var/db/authserver/authserverreplicas from the Master, there are still 4 other files left in the /var/db/authserver path - authservermain, authserverreplicas.local, and two syncfiles dated two months ago. I'm reluctant to remove them because I don't know whether they're used in the normal operation of my now-functional OD Master.
If I eliminate these files (or any others, by your suggestions) can I start with a clean slate insofar as replication from my Master is concerned?

If you ever change the ip address again, make sure to get old and new DNS records set up properly, then run the 'changeip' command, then change the IP in network prefs.

  • My iMac can't connect to my G5 tower anymore

I have my G5 tower and my G5 iMac networked. On the iMac by accident I ejected the network icon that appears in the first column of the network window and now can't connect from the iMac to the tower. I can only connect from the tower to the iMac. When I choose Go>Connect to server>Browse (in the connect to server window) the network window opens. There used to be 2 network icons, one in the first column of the network window and a second one in the second column. The only one that actually connects to the other computer is the one in the first column and unfortunately it has been ejected. Does anyone know how to get it back?
    Rex

Hurrah I figured it out. While trying a few things I discovered that what I was calling the 1st Column is the left hand side of each window where all the hard drives and computer folders are listed. Anyway I found it's called the side bar and then by putting that in Mac Help I got the answer. Finder>Perferences>Sidebar and then just select the Network box and it shows up. Very simple but at least I now know.

  • Can't connect to PPPoE through Linksys anymore....

I've been running my Earthlink DSL through a router for 9 months without any problems. (Model: Linksys WRT54G v3.1)
But yesterday it seemed to just not work anymore.
When I connect the ethernet directly to my Netopia modem from my G4 MDD Powermac, I can connect easily with the 'automatic' settings.
HOWEVER... no matter how many different settings I try, I can't get the connection to work through the Linksys router. I keep getting the message 'Could not find PPPoE server'. The Network Settings says the ethernet is set up and trying to connect, but it can't seem to.
I've tried unplugging, pushing in the reset buttons and all sorts of other things, but nothing works.
I contacted Linksys and they claim you can reload the router firmware with a Mac. But after downloading their firmware update, I found it can't be opened by my Mac.
But I'm wondering if the firmware is even the problem?
    Any clues much appreciated....

That sounds like the exceptional tech support experience.
Frankly I'm shocked at how bad the earthlink tech support experience was. In the past it wasn't that bad. It used to be a 3 minute wait and then someone halfway knowledgeable would be there.
This time I waited through 4 minutes of brainless telephone ads until they put me through to the Phillipines to Moron #1 who started off asking in an almost impossilbe to understand accent "What eees your father's middle name?" and then "What ees your credit card number?"
I explained to him that he was supposed to as for the mother's maiden name and that I would NEVER give him my credit card number. And then... after another 3 minutes of telephone ads I got connected to another identical 3rd world slave labor tech person who simply asked me all the same questions over again
Needless to say, the experience was a sad reflection of corporate strategy... thinking this is going to get them customers.
Rant over... thank gosh for the Apple discussion boards!

  • Upgraded 4s to iOS8 and can't connect to certain wireless networks anymore

I have an iPhone 4s that I updated to iOS 8.  Prior to update, I was using iOS 7 (whatever the latest iteration was), and was able to connect to various wireless networks. Following the update, I am no longer able to connect to the wireless network at my place of work.  It tries to connect, does so briefly, and give me an authentication request (screenshot attached). Blank username/passwords don't work, neither does the network name/password combo.  Choosing cancel will revert the connection back to 3G.
To try and fix the problem, I have "forgotten" the connection, re-started the phone, and neither has worked I have reset my network connections, and it worked immediately after the reset.  The phone was inactive for a while, and upon unlocking, it had reverted to 3G.  When I tried to re-connect, it gave the same errors already stated.
I no longer have a back-up from before the upgrade, so I can't go back to 7.  My wireless connection on my home network is fine.  Nothing has changed with the work wireless since it was working with my iOS 7. It uses a WPA-Personal security, and there are several repeaters for the signal throughout the building.
What is going on and how can I fix it?

Set it up as new device, make sure all the apps are updated in the iTunes library and try to use iTunes to restore it again from the latest backup:

  • Can't Connect to My Network Printer Anymore: Brother 7065-DN

I bought my Macbook Pro in 2010 and never had a problem connecting to my home network printer until a few months ago. Ever since I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion 10.8.5 I can't see or access the network printer. My daughter, who bought her Macbook Pro at the beginning of the year, pre installed with Mountain Lion, has no issues seeing and printing to the printer. I tried reinstalling the driver from my disk and it wouldn't take. I tried downloading the Brother driver from Apple and the specific driver's and updates for my printer, nothing. When I am lucky enough to see it on the printer list, it won't print, saying that the printer cannot be located. I have tried (when it does see it, which is random and weird) using the IP address and then the driver from the list, I also tried using the post script general. I have tried adding the IP address of the printer in the printer set up, I have tried adding the MAC address, I've tried clicking it when it occasionally shows up under my work group. I tried installing it while it was connected directly to the laptop...Nothing....I've turned on printer sharing, file sharing, and anything else I can think of...I am at a loss!
The two Windows PC and the other Macbook in the house can connect via the network, no problem. I even tried to look at her settings to see what was different but I couldn't figure it out. What is really frustrating is that I am working on my degree and need to print regularly, so everyone else in the house has to stop what they are doing, open the file I sent them through e-mail, download it, and then print it. It irritates them and me!
I have a standard router n/b/g and a comcast modem. One desk top and three laptops connected to it. Internet access works fine. Printer is a Laser Jet all in one scanner/printer Brother 7065-DN. I have downloaded all the updated drivers from Apple and Brother. Someone please help!! I am going crazy and wasting a lot of time messing with this that could be better spent on my homework!! Like I said, it worked fine until the upgrade!!

  • Can't connect to the Apple server anymore!

    Hello,
Two weeks ago I was FINALLY able to go from dial-up (Copper.net) to DSL Verizon). Ever since I have not been able to use the Software Update, Safari, IE for mac, or get iTunes to get track names of cds.
Everything else works fine. I'm on an iMac G4 running OS X 10.4.11. The modem is Model 6100F. I've tried following the advice given to others with a similar problem but nothing has worked. Can someone please tell me how to fix this? Thanks.

Check in System Preferences > Network, double click your connection and click the Proxies tab. If there a check in Web Proxy, uncheck it.
Safari, iTunes, and Software Update use HTTP (port 80), and if a proxy server is enabled and you aren't using one, then you won't be able to connect using those apps.
Firefox bypasses the System Prefs proxy settings (it uses its own settings), so if Firefox works, that's indicative of a proxy server setting issue.
Hope this helps... If not, post back.

  • I can't connect to X-box live anymore! Help please!

I've had xbox live since Sunday and it's worked fine since then. I'm using a Linksys WRT54G with Microsoft's own wireless adapter. When I first got it hooked up, I was using WEP and the xbox live lady on the phone told me to use my phone number for that code and it connected right away after some power cycling. Well, this morning I went to connect and it wasn't working at all. It get's to the IP address and fails. I called xbox live on the phone again and they told me to use a WPA code that I got off my computer. So after half and hour and more power cycling, it connected and after I hung up the phone with the lady, it became unconnected again. Ok, obviously I'm not the smartest person when it comes to this stuff so I REALLY need some guidance on how I should do this. Should I be using WEP or WPA and why can't I stay connected?

Acces setup page of router .....
Please click on the tab "Application and gaming" and click on sub
    tab "Port range forwarding"
    1) On the first line in Application box type in "Xbox", in start box
type in 88, in end box type in 88, in protocol keep it both, in ip
address type in 192.168.1.20 and give a check mark on enable box.
    2)   On the second line in Application box type in "Xbox", in start box
type in 3074, in end box type in 3074, in protocol keep it both, in ip
address type in 192.168.1.20 and give a check mark on enable box.
    3) Now save the settings
    4) Once you return to the setup page, click on the tab "Administration"
and disable the UPNP and save the settings.
    5) Now assign the given ip address on your xbox
       ip address :- 192.168.1.20
       subnet mask :- 255.255.255.0
       default gateway :- 192.168.1.1
Please assign the dns address on the xbox
      primary dns :- 4.2.2.2
      secondary dns :- 192.168.1.1
    6) Please try to test your xbox live.

  • Help - I can't connect to the Music Store anymore

Today I have had the message "iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. The network connection was reset." This was after it tried for a few minutes. Everything else - playlists, accessing Gracenote CDDB for CDs, playing my songs - seems to be working fine. (It's iTunes 6.0.4).
It's seems to be suggesting I have an internet connection problem, but I don't! Safari, Mail, limewire, they're all working fine.
It all happened after I pressed the 'See All' arrow next to the 'Just For You' selection on the front page (which I've never tried before). Earlier today I had a problem with one CD which wouldn't read one track properly which meant I had to 'force quit' iTunes, but I was able to access the Music Store when I relaunched, or at least the front page anyway.
Since then I have repaired permissions, restarted, but the problem is still there. I have tried other user accounts and the problem is in all accounts. I have had a look in /Library for Preferences or Application Support folders at the System level that might be the problem, but there aren't any. What do I do now - reinstall iTunes 6 (if I still have the DVD)? What happens to all my playlists and songs and purchases and previews etc if I do that?
    iMac G5 17" 1.5Gb RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Ok, this is an update and then I'm going off to bed, so if anyone has any bright ideas I will see them first thing.
I now wonder if limewire may be the problem, even though it is 'listening' currently on port 33782 which is nowhere near to iTunes or anything else for OS X. Why? Because up until today, I could only connect to limewire during the daytime - evenings and weekends it wouldn't connect and discussion forums suggest that tiscali (my ISP) is one of the worst offenders for blocking UDP traffic at peak times and may be specifically targeting limewire. Today, when I have had the problem with iTunes Music Store, I have been able to connect to limewire all day and all evening, no problems.
However the problem with this theory is that when I could connect previously to limewire only during the day, I could still connect to the Music Store as well at the same time. So it may be irrelevant.
I have checked everything else from the article - the discussion boards, keychain access, firewall, it all checks out. So if anyone has any ideas about this, I'd be very happy.

  • Can't connect to Address Book Server anymore

I'm having a problem with our mac mini's address book server.
Users are unable to add accounts to their address books and get the error message:
»Address Book couldn't discover the account settings for the CardDAV server "XY". Make sure the user name and server address are correct, then click Create.«
However, everything works perfectly fine when i'm adding the same account on the server directly, everything works perfectly fine. In this case, it works with all possible server addresses (localhost, ip, and our dyndns address). however, none of these addresses works from the clients.
all clients are in the same subnet as the server and i turned off the firewall for testing purposes.

you're right, the description is a quite confusing.
    here's another try
i have a small office network with a mac mini server, several mac clients and a speedport router which also acts as the dns server for the network. the server is used primarily as an intranet server (the whole dyndns-thing is an experiment right now).
when i add an account in the address book application of a client computer, i get the message noted in my first post. i tried connecting using the host name (xy.local) and the ip address of the server – none worked. however, when i login as a test user directly on the server and add the same account in that address book, it works normally.
another thing (and i don't know if that is related to the problem) is that since recently, browsing to xy.local in safari has been extremely slow (we're talking about 5 minutes of page load time). however, when i ping that address, it responds quite fast.
i checked the dns logs but my knowledge about dns is quite limited…

  • Can't connect to Time Capsule after MacBook has been closed

    Hey guys,
While ago I bought a 2TB Time Capsule to back-up my movies and music to, because my MacBook Air only has a small SSD.
It worked fine for a while but now I'm experiencing some problems. Everytime I close my MacBook and open it again, it can't connect to the Time Capsule anymore. I have to reboot the macbook and then it works again. Any idea how I can fix this? I also connected my iMac in the other room to it but I don't think that should be the problem.
    Greets and thanks

    Give this a try:
    1. Start AirPort Utility, then let it remain open.  You can hide it but do not quit,
    2. System Preferences>Energy Saver>Power Adapter>uncheck "Wake for access".
    Any improvement?

  • Can't connect wirelessly to router

I got a new laptop and a new router wrt160n v3 everything was going fine, my connection wirelessly was laggy but that was okay. One day by mistake i set myself as an "intruder" on my router and deleted myself off the map. I tried everything, putting the cd and reset the settings but no matter how hard i can't connect wirelessly to my router anymore. Now i have to stick a wire to my router and sit beside my computer. also when i do connect to it, it says that i cant or something. I need help asap !
question : how can i connect wirelessly back to my router

This is certainly an unusual problem, but from your description, I would have to assume that the router memorized the MAC address of your wireless adapter, and won't let you reconnect.
The best solution would be to download and install (or re-install) the lastest firmware for your router, then reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch.  If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it  ---  you must setup the router from scratch.
Alternatively, you might be able to change the MAC address of your wireless adapter.  The downside of this solution is that if you ever re-install your computer, you will need to remember to change the wireless adapter's MAC address again.

I've had my iPod Touch 4g for a few months now and I've never had problems with the wi-fi until now. I mostly use my wi-fi here at home and I've never had major problems before but I woke up this morning to find that my iPod can't connect tot he wi-fi anymore. It was working perfectly the night before and now it just doesn't connect no matter what I do!
I've tried everything from reseting the iPod, my router, the network settings, everything. The internet still doesn't work. It shows that I've connected to my router but I can't do anything that requires a wi-fi connection (YouTube, Facebook, Twitter) even though it says it's connected and shows full bars! Also, the wi-fi connects and disconnects by itself every once in a while.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, this is frustrating me so much!
