Can't connect over d-link, why? Is airport better?

i just spent the evening trying to have a PBookG4 connect to the internet over a d-link 1310 wireless router with cable access.
The computer sees the router and can configure it,
the router is obviously connected to the net.
but why can't the mac make that final step and connect to the net?
I've had trouble before with an imac alum with d-link wireless where we had a windows that connected right away and our two macs couldn't.
i also thought about getting and airport emitter, but reading these boards, the airport hardly seems worth the extra money. It it easier?

How do you know the router has been able to establish a connection with your internet service provider? Is there another computer connected to this router that is able to access the internet? If not, try cabling your Mac to one of the router's ethernet LAN ports and see what happens - if the Mac still doesn't get an internet connection, you know the problem is between the router and your ISP.
If the router isn't getting an internet connection, try pulling power to both your cable/DSL modem and router for five minutes or so. Then plug in the modem and wait a minute. Then plug in the router.

  • Hp6700 Printer: can't connect to D-Link DI-514 Wireless Router when Broadcast SSID is set to NO.

HP6700 Printer:  can't connect to D-Link DI-514 Wireless Router when Router Broadcast SSID is set to NO. My MAC LapTop and HP LapTop both work with the SSID set to NO. If I change the Wireless Router to Broadcast SSID is YES, then the HP6700 Printer can connect to the Wireless Router. I setup the Printer telling it what the SSID and Password were, the same as both of my LapTops, but it never connects, unless I change the Router to broadcast the SSID. Help!

Did you try updating the firmware on the DI-514?
You can also try setting a static IP on the printer, then assign the printer to the static DHCP list in the router interface.
To give your printer a static IP address:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
    - Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS. This is Google DNS. You can choose another external DNS if you wish.
    - Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you will have delete and re-add the printer on your Mac.

  • I can't connect to the drive on my airport time machine and am receiving the message: "AirPort Time Capsule" can't be opened because the original item can't be found.

Time capsule has been working perfectly for months.
Suddenly I can't connect to the drive on my airport time capsule and am receiving the message: “AirPort Time Capsule” can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found.
Time machine appears to be still backing up (last backup within the last hour), but drive is not visible and I have files stored on it.
I have tried rebooting everything in order as suggested for other issues, anyone got any ideas how to see the drive again??

    What OS are you running??
It is very typical Yosemite issue.
    1. In airport utility does the TC show up.. if so click it.. and see the summary page which will include its IP address. That is what you are after.
From my screenshot you can see the TC address is 192.168.2.57
It might well show up briefly after a reboot or in ipad / iphone version utility. Yosemite is hopeless. The airport utility hardly works.
    2. In Finder use Go, Connect to server.
Type in SMB://192.168.2.57 (replace with IP you discover).
If it is possible it will request a password.. type that in and DO NOT FORGET.. to store it in your keychain.
This will work until the TC changes IP which won't happen if it is main router.. but will happen if it is bridged.. so you need to tell me the whole network setup.
Mavericks is nearly as bad and the above instructions should be universal except I would use AFP instead of SMB. Apparently Yosemite is now totally Windows oriented.

If you have ethernet still on your MBP plug it in by ethernet and tell me if that works.
Tell me how the Airport is setup.. what broadband modem and router you have.
What OS on the laptop? Yosemite I guess.. since it is the most troublesome.
Did it work before whatever change was made? Has it worked in the past? When did it stop and what did you do that coincided with it stopping?
    Upgrade to Yosemite??

  • I have a PCI-FBUS card (dual port), can't connect over 60 devices to it?

I connect to various Fieldbus devices (all from the same manufacturer and same type as we are an OEM) that I am testing (I have 80 in my test system).  I have the dual port PCI Fieldbus card and am running communication manager 3.2 on Windows XP with service pack 2.  As part of my pretest (getting the devices on the bus and assigning them a unique address) I connect to a device and change its address to 20 and power off the device to have it drop off the bus then relay in the next device and connect to it and change the address to 21 etc etc---this process makes it easiest for me as then all I have to do is connect to the only device on the bus and know that it is the device I am interested in assigning to it a new unique address as the others are not on the bus.  I am able to get 30 devices per port (60 devices total since I have a dual port card).  After the 30th device is connected, albeit no devices show up on the bus since they are all powered off, I relay in my 31st device but I can't connect to it on a given port (at this point I have 30 devices that were connected to each port but are now powered off).  I have the card configured to operate within the address range of 16-102 for both ports.
What is the limit of the number of devices that can be connected to a given port?  What would be the recommended way of connected say 80 devices to a PCI card (40 per port).  For my application, after the so called pretest is complete, I do have to have up to 8 devices powered on at the same time (4 per port) so that is why I want to keep the addresses unique per device.  By the way I know this is not a physical connection issue with my station as I can connect to all devices when I limit my test to 60 devices (i.e. I can do the first 60 or the last 60 so the wiring etc is good as well as my assigned address space/parameters for the NI card).

    Hello Jim,
In NI-FBUS, the max number of devices that can be connected to a segment (port) at one same time is 32. This value is defined by FF specification.
    Please try the following method.
After connecting the 30th device, restart NI-FBUS Communications Manager (CM), then connect the 31th device. Check whether the problem still occurs.

  • WRT54G. Computer sees network but can't connect over wireless

So I have a WRT54G router since a couple of years now.  Laptop (Win7 64bit), ipod, ipad, phones can connect to it without a problem, but new computer (Win7 64bit) can't.  I can connect the PC via ethernet without a problem though.
I powercycled my devices, I changed broadcasting options off and then back on, changed my security mode, tried the MAC Cloning (after doing the MAC Cloning, I lost internet connectivity even through ethernet), resetted my security settings, changed SSID, I'm broadcasting through channel 11 2.462.  I also tried deleting the HomeGroup
Important fact: the network is in the list of available wireless network, but Signal Strength is No Signal and I can't connect to it.
My network adapter is ASUS 802.11n Wireless LAN Card, drivers are up to date.
I've upgraded to the latest router firmware.
    I use a cable ISP.
I've been looking at everyone else's posts with similar problem but none of the suggestions fixed my problem.  Anyone has an idea?  I'm no techie so I may be missing something important/obvious...   Thanks a lot for replies (please don't hijack!)

As the concern is with your wireless connection and you have updated the firmware of the Router so once reset and reconfigure the Router... Since you are using Cable Connection refer the link for the configuration: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=93&vw=1&articleid=3686
As far as the wireless is concern make the channel to 6, 9 and 11...
Under Advanced Wireless Settings change Beacon Interval to 75, Fragmentation Threshold to 2306, RTS Threshold to 2307...

  • Can't connect to Blackberry Link with USB

My Z10 will only connect to blackberry Link through Wi-Fi, when I turn Wi-Fi off and plug in with a USB cable it says not connected. I tried removing it then adding it again, reinstalled Blackberry Link, rebooting computer restarting phone nothing seems to work. I want to backup my phone but can only do it with a USB cable. If anyone has had this problem and solved it could the please help?

Perhaps this is too late for those with the problems connecting Z30 via USB in BBLink.
Anyway, the definitive solution is as follows: (this only applies to Windows)
    1. Uninstall the BB Desktop Software 7 (BBOS) from your computer, and have only BBLink. (it is said that you can run both BBOS Desktop as well as BBLink on the same pc however, if you do, BB10 devices will only connect through Wi-Fi and won't be able to back up. this is because the BBOS Desktop driver has priority over USB network interface.
    2. Once BBOS Desktop is uninstalled, then turn the wi-fi 'off' in your BB10 device, then turn off the BB10 device, then connect the said device via USB, and when you do this, your computer will automatically pick up the driver from your BB10 device, and your device may reboot (if not just turn it on and wait couple of minutes).
    3. Open BBLink, and wait for the password prompt screen to log into your BB10 device.
    That's it, all done. Thanks!

  • Safari Can't Connect To Proxy Server - Why?

I was using Safari with a proxy server on my Macbook Pro for the last week or so, because people who log ip addresses on places like LiveJournal etc annoy me and I'd rather not reveal all to whoever happens to be looking. It was all working fine, then suddenly when I went to use it this morning, Safari won't connect through a proxy server at all, no matter what I do. All I get is; +Safari can’t open the page “http://www.google.com/” because Safari can’t connect to the web proxy server (HTTP).+
I know the ip address I'm using is fine because it will work in Firefox, and not only that, Safari on my sister's Macbook will accept that same ip address and load webpages fine, so it's obviously something screwy over here. I hadn't touched settings or anything between using it yesterday and it not working today. I've even updated Safari to see if that's the problem. It's not, and I'm stuck as to why it's suddenly thrown a hissy fit.

    Hello !
Does Software Update from Apple menu connect? If not
    Go to:
    System Preference > Network.
    Click Advanced.
    Click Proxies Tab on top.
In Configure Proxies box click up-down arrows for the pop-up window and select Manually.
In the pane that opens up make sure no box is checked, if checked uncheck it.
Click OK at the bottom of the window.
Click Apply at the bottom of the window.
    Close System Preference.
Relaunch Safari. It should connect. This worked for me.
Firefox does not use the Proxy system Safari uses.

  • Can't connect to iTunes store - why?

    Hi,
i tried all I could find about this problem in the support, but I stiall can't connect to the Store from my iTunes.
I run Windows XP, last version of iTunes (10.6.3.25), Windows Firewall is not active, in the browser the Security options are checked (SSL 3.0 and TSL 1.0), in other words I just can't understand why I can't connect to the Store.
    Someone could help?
    Thanks,
    Lorenzo

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • How many devices can I connect over USB to Configurator simultaneously

    Hi,
I am looking for confirmation (preferably from Apple!) as to how many iOS devices can be connected via USB to Configurator simultaneously?
There is one document from Apple which states 30 devices is the limit but we use carts with many more than this which Configurator appears to handle fine. You can also buy carts which accept more than 30 devices from the Apple Education Store.
What I really need is an official document stating the limit or some feedback from you guys on your experiences with Configurator and high numbers of devices!
Any help would, of course, be appreciated
    Thanks.

Depends on your USB hardware....I have had two Bretford 30 unit carts running and while slow will work...Actually in our last deployment I went back to one MacBook Air AC station per 30 cart (4-5 carts per building) as the timing worked out better with temp workers and workflow....

  • Can't connect to wireless internet with my airport extreme card.

hello, i need some help connecting to our wireless router. i do not have an airport base station, i am trying to connect to a third-party, secure wireless network. anyway, i've called apple, i've called linksys (the router company), and i am still using hardwire connected to the router. whenever i click the airport icon on the top taskbar, no networks show up. i have had my pc laptop in the same room as my iMac G5, and the laptop can autmatically connect to the network, but my iMac cannot. i am running out of options. i connect with a secure, wireless internet. its wep, whatever that means, and i've tried my user name and passcode numerous times, but to no avail. what do i do????

thanks for your help, but sadly this did not work. even when i click the wireless airport icon on the top taskbar, no networks show up on the pull down menu. the only option i have is 'other.' shouldn't my secured network at least show up in the pull down menu, to which i provide the password?
is there any way to get this extreme card to work? has anyone else had this same problem with their iMac G5? this is ridiculous, thanks.
