Can't connect to 5GHz Wireless on Airport Extreme

I just bought an Airport Extreme, and enabled Wireless Internet. Settings:
Radio Mode: 802.11n only (5 GHz)
Channel: Automatic
Wireless Security: WPA2 Personal
I can't seem to connect to the AE with these settings. I added a preferred network with the right settings, and tried to connect manually to the Connection's name with WPA2 Personal + the password that's in the AE.
Strange thing is, I works perfectly when I change it to:
Radio Mode: 802.11n only (2.4 GHz)
Channel: Automatic
Wireless Security: WPA2 Personal
So 2.4GHz works, but as soon as I change it to 5GHz, I can't connect anymore. I installed the n-software that came with the AE, and it's working since 802.11n on 2.4GHz gives no problems. I'm also about 1 meter away from the AE, so distance can't be a factor.

I guess it should; I installed the update that came with the Airport Extreme. I also guess it's already working, since I'm currently using the setting '802.11n only (2.4 GHz)'.
I think some of my settings might be wrong, but I can't figure out which. Changing the radio mode to 5GHz and setting a WPA2 Personal key is all I can think of

  • Can't connect Canon MP560 wirelessly using Airport Extreme with MacBook Pro

My Canon MP560 is failing to connect to the access point.  It recognizes the access point/network I would like to connect to but when I enter in my password it fails to connect and tells me to check access point settings.  I used this exact same printer but different router in my old house and everything worked well!  I'm thinking this is a Mac thing that I can't seem to figure out.  I have the lastest Canon driver updates for Mac and use 10.6.8 software on my Macbook Pro.
This is how the printer instructs me on the panel.
    a. Select Wireless LAN setup
    b. Select Easy Settings
    c. Select Access Point
    d. Enter Password
    e. Fails to connect..........
    Please help.
    Brice.

    Hi Tesserax,
i have the same issue as mountie30 with the MP560 but it's not working
    i have a airport express.
    i was following your instructions:
''To get to this feature within the AirPort Utility, go to the utility's menu bar and first choose Base Station, and then, Add Wireless Clients...''
the problem is, base station is in light gray and i can't click on it.
i re-plugged my printer into my imac so it detects it again. (it still says printer offline in settings)
i have no clue what to do.
    please help
    thanks

  • How far away can you connect to the internet from Airport Extreme (802.11n)

How far can i take my Laptop away from Airport Extreme (802.11n) and still have internet connection

    According to:
    http://www.apple.com/au/airportexpress/
They claim the Extreme has a 45m range:
"Suppose you want to connect to the Internet with your PowerBook in an area that lies beyond the 45 metre range of your AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme Base Station"
Will you be using all N devices? G?, B? or a combination?

  • How many wireless devices can be connected at once to an airport extreme?

How many wireless devices can be connected to an airport extreem at one time? I have 4 iphones and 2 ipads, a goolge chrome and 4 wired devices.

Any AirPort Extreme produced since 2008 will support up to 50 wireless devices and 150+ wired devices simultaneously, so this should accommodate most users in most homes.

  • Pc with windows xl/sp3 can't connect / acquire ip address from airport extreme; meanwhile, my macbook in connecting fine.  We have a wpa2 personal password

My husband's Dell with Windows xl (sp3) can't get an ip address from our new airport extreme.  Nor can my daughter's Windows 7 computer.  There are no firewalls in place.  Both computers worked with my old Airport, though it was sssslllllllowwww.  My Macbook works fine and is super fast compared to the old airport.  We are using a wpa2 personal password.
Anyone out there have a cure for this problem so we can hook up those sad pcs?
    Thanks a lot.
    Elizabeth

First, make sure that the new Airport is configured exactly the same as the old one. Hopefully you saved the configuration settings in a file and can look at them to be sure.
If the Windows PC's can't connect with the same password, it's possible that the PC's were using an older wifi protocol like 802.11a or b.  The new Airport is backwards compatible but has to be setup that way check to see what versions of 802.11a the windows computers support and make sure that the wireless mode of the airport is setup to accomodate them.
Can the PC's get an IP address if they are connected to the AirPort using an ethernet cable? If they can, that would help naorrow things down to a wireless issue and not some other configuration problem.

  • HT4262 How can I connect 6 computers simultaneously to Airport extreme?

I have tried troubleshooting several ways and the some computers work and others don't. How can I connect 6 wireless computers to Airport Extreme?

    Matt
Is it possible to speak on the phone?  The situation is so convoluted it might be easier to help me get back on track in person. When I first had this issue I got on an apple site that had a chat room in which I typed in my problem.  After several missives back and forth, the apple technician asked for my number and we spoke on the phone. The technician walked me through rebooting the actual airport plug (as opposed to the router box) and got me up and running. Do you know how I can relocate that chat site for technical support?
    Thanks

  • Apple TV can't see 5 Ghz (wireless N) Airport Extreme

I have 2 Apple TV's in my house, a Mac Pro (8-core) and a Airport Extreme running 'ONLY' on 802.11n '5 Ghz'. The problem comes when I try to connect to my network.
The first Apple TV I purchased within the first two weeks of it being announced. And this device connects without any problems to the 5 Ghz channel and is located about 20 feet away from the Airport Extreme.
The second Apple TV I just purchased in March '08 and it can't even see my home network (which is located about 30 feet away from it). But when I change my network to a 'G' network it can see it just fine and it has a full strength signal.
Does anyone know why my newer Apple TV can't fine my 802.11n (5 Ghz) network?
    Thx.

5GHz N doesn't have the range and can't go through as many wall etc as 2.4GHz N or G..
also are the router and the appleTV on the same floor? the best range will be for routers on the same floor at the same height.
that 10 more feet, if it means a few more wall and/or a change in floors might actually make the difference.
have you upgraded to 2.0.2? there were some problems with 802.11n 5GHz with wide channels ON (gives max throughput) with 2.X releases.

  • Mac Book pro can't connect to Internet through Apple airport extreme base station

I had problems connecting to the internet in the past with my macbook pro.  One day it suddenly started working again but then I bought a second apple TV I lost connectivity.  I have tried changing the IP address manually and while it shows me connected to the wifi I am still with out internet.  When I hooked up the new Apple TV that I bought it booted my computer from it's ip address.  The apple TV though wouldn't work and now nor would my computer.  I ended up setting the Apple TV's ip address manually and now it works fine. My computer on the other hand does not no matter if I set it manually or not.  Even if I plug in the ethernet cable from the base station it doesn't work.  It show that it has a self assigned IP address.  After I set it manually it shows that I am connected both via wifi and the ethernet cable but I can't connect to the internet.  If I plug the modem directly into the computer bypassing the base station I get internet and it is using the IP address that worked originally.
It has something to do with the connection from the base station to my computer but this is odd considering every other device I have: iPhone 4, apple tv, apple tv, apple mini with retina display all work perfectly via wifi (newest apple tv had to be set manually as I stated above but now works fine).  When I check the ip of the base station itself it seems to be different from the ip of the computer when the computer was connected directly to the router.  I don't understand why my computer now can't connect to the internet via the base station whether it be wifi or by ethernet.  Can you please help me trouble shoot this?
I have an AirPort Extreme base station which allows up to 50 users and a 30 meg connection speed.
    I have a MacBook Pro (17-inch Early 2009), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

It has something to do with the connection from the base station to my computer
    I don't think so..
I just posted a reply which totally vanished.. strange strange website now.
Please post some screenshots of your AE setup from the airport utility.. I want to see the summary page, then the network and internet tab.
Please tell us what modem you use.. is it a router??
If you have satellite or 3G wimax etc service they often are limited to 5 IP addresses... the AE takes one and then 4 more devices can join .. no more.
You need to also give us the screenshot of the IP you are getting in a computer that works.
    EDIT
Sorry this is half double post.. the previous page refused to display.. now it has returned..

  • Can't connect iPhone or iPad to Airport Extreme

I just got a new modem/wireless router from AT&T U-Verse (it's a 2Wire 020). I needed to extend the range, since the signal doesn't reach to one part of the house. I set my Airport Extreme up as a bridge, and it's working perfectly – in fact, I'm using it right now with my MacBook Pro.
My problem is that it won't let me connect any iOS device to the Airport Extreme. I've tried an iPhone and also an iPad, but none of them will connect, even though they will connect to the 2Wire router.
If anyone has any ideas, that would be great.
    Thanks.

Ok, thanks for clarifying that they are interconnected by Ethernet. I just wanted to be sure.
If you haven't done so already, I would recommend that you perform a complete power recycle of your networking equipment whenever you add or change items.
    Please try the following:
Power-down the gateway, AEBS, and computer(s); wait at least 10-15 minutes. Note: Power-down order is not critical.
Power-up the gateway; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
Power-up the AEBS; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    Power-up the computer(s).
Network clients, connected by either wire or wireless to the AEBS should now be able to gain access to the Internet via the gateway. Please post back your results.

  • Connecting Time Capsule wirelessly to Airport Extreme

    Hello,
I have just purchased a Time Capsule v7.3.1. I am trying to have my Airport Extreme connect wirelessly to my Time Capsule and then use the ethernet connection "wired" to my Xbox. I am unable to get an ethernet address that works when connected via ethernet. I had two Airport extreme's previously connected via wireless and had my Xbox connected via Ethernet on my one Extreme and things worked fine. It seems that my Time Capsule when connected via wireless to my Airport Extreme isn't getting a valid ethernet DHCP address and I cannot get it to work. When I use the wireless connection on my Airport Extreme it seems to work fine when I access the wireless connection to the Airport Extreme. However, wired does not.. Time Capsule

your secondary router should be placed using the manual button once Airport Utility is launched in "bridge" mode. then configure your ethernet and wireless.

  • Can you connect a USB drive to Airport Extreme or an Airport base for TM

Would like to backup MacBooks in 2 different scenarios with Time Machine. One is a USB external drive attached to Airport Extreme and the other is doing the same with an Airport base. Will both work? Also, I have been partitioning the direct USB attached hard drives so that I have a Time Machine partion and a copy of the internal hard drive. This allows my kids to boot from the external drive and still work in case the internal drive has failed or becomes corrupted. So far we have experienced 3 internal drive failures, one during finals and this has saved them. Can you boot from an external drive copy of the internal drive if it is connected to either an Airport Extreme or Airport base?

I am confused as on another site I saw that the Time Machine backup to Airport Extreme was working than broken by an update in 2008, then fixed again by another update in Oct. 2008. So is it officially supported or not. I cannot say that I am impressed with Apple's documentation and updates to what is supported and what is not.
Kappy, I do not see the concern with partitioning a drive and then taking backups to one partition and having a Restore created copy of the hard drive in another. The drive is partitioned and that should keep one partition from overlaying the other. The windows world had used partioning successfully for many years. Apple does have a slick ability to boot from a copy of the OS which is on an external drive. It has saved my kids multiple times when something has gotten hosed up on the internal drive, including a Mac mini with a drive failure during dinal exams and two drive failures on a Macbook. It lets the kids access the internet and get theri work done albiet with a static copy of the OS taken some time in the past. My son was even able to copy to the external drive all of his documents, music and photos off the internal drive that would not boot. Of course he had not learned the value of Time Machine at that point.

  • Can't connect to a VPN through Airport Extreme Base Station

I'm unable to connect through my Airport Extreme Base Station to my office via VPN. Is there something needed to be set up specially?
I'm using a notebook with WindowXP which connects to internet just fine.

    Here is info:
Airport Utility finds an Airport Extreme with 802.11n(fast ethernet)
    Base Station Name: Home
    IP Address: 10.0.1.1
    Airport ID: 00:19:E3:FA:A8:32
This is not the IP address of the modem. Even though light is green on Base station the ATV doesn't make the wireless connection.

  • How can I connect Acer (WinXpSP2) to Mac airport extreme?

I cannot connect my ACER laptop using WinXP Sp2 to my Mac's Airport Extreme. I have set my System Preferences with a third party 13 character password. I did not make any changes to my Airport Admin Utility. I followed the steps laid out in the site: //www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1011.html. I think I'm just probably missing one button to click or unclick. I have done the following to configure the Wireless properties on my ACER...so that the network authentication is selected at SHARED, the Data Encrytion is set at WEP; disable the IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network; and connect to wireless network manually. All this was recommended in the felix site and other help files but I cannot make the connection. Also, when the properties are set like I mention, for some reason ACER kicks everything to its default settings (WPA-PSK authentication, TKIP encryption, IEEE 802.1x authenication enabled....all I don't want)
What am I doing wrong? I know that Window XP SP2 does not need the windows firmware to get access to my mac airport extreme.
    Help someone? PLEASSSE!
    Rose

1, Change your airport wireless security from WEP (old fashion and not really that secure) to "WPA Personal".
2, Set yourself a password, then update your airport.
3, Delete your current wireless setting on your XP then do a new network search
4, You should found your airport wireless network on your xp by now, click, to join the network and type in and confirm the password you just set on your airport's "wirless security".
    5. Done, you should be able to access the network now

  • Can't connect XP Desktop to new Airport Extreme

I have just replaced my older Linksys router with a new AEBS. I have a MacBook Pro, Apple TV, 2 iPhones, Airport Express, a Vista laptop and a XP Desktop. All have connected with no issues EXCEPT the Windows XP machine. The XP machine can see the new AEBS but not connect. I have removed the network from my preferred networks list and re-tried. I have also made sure to have the XP WAP2 patch, turned off all firewalls and AV, and removed all security from the AEBS, but nothing I've done has worked. I have even rebuilt the XP machine just a few weeks ago. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I pulled my hair out on this one...ended up downgrading the Airport Extreme firmware to 7.4.1 or earlier. Now my XP machines connect just fine.

I can't connect my officejet 4255 with the newly bought airport extreme base station. Anybody help?

In System Pref. on your Mac, under Printer Setup Wizard (it may be in Utilities, Im not 100% sure - just check both) when you click on Add Printer (or the '+' sign) click on Bonjour printers, and you should see your printer there (make sure it is connected to your AEBS via USB first)
