Can't connect to apple software update server

Hi,
I have been having this issue since i clean install Maverick a few weeks back. It seems intermittent as there are certain rare times when i don't receive such errors. The error will occur when i click the 'Update' tab.
Here's a screenshot i took of the error when i click the 'update' tab. I tried telnet 17.164.1.22 433 and it was connected. *Baffled*
I'm located in Singapore, if that matters.
Can someone advise?

No its MBP Mid 2012
I fixed it by downloading another copy of Mavericks and update on the top of the current version.(NOT FORMAT OR REINSTALL)
Now it fine.
Thanks for your help

• Can't connect to the Software Update server (lionserver.t3m.private)? Please help!

Has anyone experienced this; Can't connect to the Software Update server (lionserver.t3m.private)?
I can no longer sync my iPhone as it needs an iTunes update. When I select update software and I get the error message above.

If you are getting the error message "Unable to check for update" when you try an OTA (over the air update)
Change DNS Servers
Settings -> Wi-Fi
Click the blue arrow on your connected network
Delete everything in DNS and replace it with 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
Try again
If this works, you will probably want to remove the WiFi network using "Forget This Network" and then reconnect to it to get your original DNS servers back. Alternatively, make a note of the original DNS servers before deleting them and replace it after you are done.
If you are getting the error message "Unable to check for update" when you try through iTunes
On your Mac
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Network.
Select the network connection service you want to use (such as Wi-Fi or Ethernet, unless you named it something else) from the list, and then click Advanced.
Click DNS, and then click Add at the bottom of the DNS Servers list. Enter the IPv4 address for the DNS server.

• Can't connect to internal Software Update Server

Greetings All,
I just upgraded my XServer from Tiger to Leopard. Before the upgrade, I was using the server as a Software Update Server pushing all updates to Tiger clients. Now after upgrading to Leopard and installing the Software Update Service, it seems that my Leopard (haven't tried Tiger) clients are not able to connect to it internally - they go straight to Apple. I started the service and configured the client with:
defaults write com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL http://10.0.1.249:8088/
But it seems to not work. Other question is, will Tiger clients be able to connect to the Leopard server for OS updates? Thanks in advance,
-andy-

I've got two 10.5.4 servers (one upgraded throughout the 10.5 life-cycle and one freshly installed at 10.5.1 and combo-updated) and I've never (!!) been able to get them to connect to my Software Update Server (SUS). 10.4 clients can connect and indicate the domain in the SoftwareUpdate title bar. I can copy and paste the same command I make 10.4 clients connect into each 10.5 box I have and none of them will resolve. They all default back to Apple's servers.
When I run "defaults read com.apple.SoftwareUpdate" I get the proper domain listed and it looks just like 10.4 client's responses. No 10.5 clients or servers will attach to my SUS. Why do 10.4 clients and servers? I even recently upgrade the SUS from 10.4.11 to 10.5.4 and Tiger clients still work, 10.5's do not.

• "Can't connect to iPad Software Update Server" Error. How Can I Fix This?

I keep getting an error saying, "The iPad cannot be updated at this time because the iPad software update server could not be contacted or in temporarily unavailable.", whenever I try to update to 3.2.2 or restore my iPad. This has been happening for a couple of months now. Can someone please help me!? Apple only addresses this issue for Windows. And have searched all of google and can't find anything.

Ahha! I have just overcome this problem myself.
Being a highly tech savvy I immediatly assumed that this was a most complex and difficult problem to overcome. So naturally I started looking at things like port 80 and internet proxy options.
But alas, it was my anti-virus which caused this error! A most dispicable fiend.
Solution:
I have Avast anti-virus so I will tell you how I disabled mine.
Open up the program and its friendly user interface, go to Settings at the top. In the newly opened Settings window go to the left and chose Troubleshoot from the nice little list at the bottom and then in the check box area that has appeared uncheck the Avast defence module. Now hit OK / APPLY.
Now you may close Avast completely. (Since exitting out only hides it in the background)
Hit control+alt+delete and open the Task panel.
Scroll across from programs -> processes,
Now find the AvastUI.exe or something along those lines and end that process.
Avast! It is now closed! and you may Restore/Update at will!

• Can't connect to iPod software update server??

Hi,
With my touch connected to my windows laptop, I click 'Check for Update' and the following error message appears: "The iPod software update server could not be contacted".
Anyone know how to get round this?
Thanks

I think it may be an iTunes 7.6 problem...
I've upgraded my mac mini with all the relevant updates (itunes 7.6 included), downloaded the 1.1.3 update and got the same problem as everyone else.
However...my macbook doesn't have the updates and I've just hooked my ipod touch to it and my itunes 7. is downloading the update as I speak.
Will post again once the download completes and let you know if the firmware upgrade installs ok.
Cheers,
Alex.

Update Server
Try:
- Powering off and then back on your router.
- iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
- Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
Public DNS — Google Developers
OpenDNS IP Addresses
- Try on another computer/network
- Wait if it is an Apple problem

• Local Apple Software Update Server for Windows

Has anyone figured out, how to use Leopard's Software Update Server, as a local Apple Software Update Server for Windows?
As you may know, 10.5 Software Update Server downloads, not only mac updates, but the windows' version of them as well (e.g. Safari, iTunes for windows).
There has to be a way to use that new feature.

{quote:title=Apple wrote:}
Software Update Server is capable of automatically mirroring updates between
Apple’s software update server and your local server to guarantee that the most
current updates are immediately available. Mac OS X Server also supports hosting
Apple updates for software running in Boot Camp, such as iTunes and QuickTime for
Windows. To ensure security, all updates are digitally signed by Apple.

No idea, how to get it running smoothly yet, however.

• How can I delete old Apple Software Updates from 10.6 server?

Hi guys!!
First of all, please, excuse my english......i know it's the worst possible and will try to develop it.
My question is the following.
The hard disk of my xServe is almost full and I need to delete the old Apple Software Udates that it contains (some of them are from 2005!!)
And I don´t know how to make it!!
I`ve uncheck the "automatically enable copied updates" option in Server Admin and I´ve check-in the "Purge unused/legacy software", but i don´t know how to delete the oldest Apple Software Updates because I don´t know where the **** are they!!
Thank's in advance from Spain.
Any help will be very wellcome
J.

You could try what
s in <http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9289958#9289958>, or, as this is a new setup which isn't in use, you could just nuke the system and reinstall and this time use the correct DNS name.

• ITunes can't connect to the iPad update server

THIS IS DOING MY HEAD IN.
We recently purchased a Mac Mini to help us manage our iPads. I intend to use Apple Configurator to supervise our 26 iPads but I'm having no luck! Configurator just keeps trying to put iOS 6.1.3 on. I have downloaded the 7.0.4 ipsw and stuck that in the folder, deleted the 6.1.3 ipsw but that didn't work. Then I read somewhere that Configurator uses the latest ipsw that iTunes has downloaded. "Ok" I thought, went into iTunes, plugged an iPad in and checked for an update "The iPad software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later" FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU.
We are on a school network with proxy settings in place. Now, that shouldn't causing an issue as our Windows machines can download updates through iTunes.
I then did some more digging and found a solution that told me to add something to the line that had gs.apple.com in it. Well, our hosts file has no such thing.
(Little more information. The soloution was to: go to finder > press go from the top menu > type in '/private' and hit enter > copy the hosts file to the desktop > add a hashtag and a space before the line that says 127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com.) That line does not exist in our hosts file. I have 127.0.0.1 localhost, and that's it.
Any help would be more than appreciated. Thanks!

• Trouble connecting to Iphone software update server

I am trying to update and Iphone4. When I try to download the new OS 5.1. Itunes tells me its having trouble connecting to the Iphone software update server and to check network connections or try again later.
I have turned off virus software
I am running directly from the modem
I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes.
I am getting nowhere with Apple tech support.
I am running windows XP Media center edition version 2002 service pack 3
Can anyone help?
Thanks

Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

• My iPhone is in recovery mode but in Itunes it cannot connect to thge software update server

I unsuccessfully updated new software yesterday which resulted in my phone completely crashing. It told me to connect to iTunes. When I did this it said I must restore to factory settings which I did and then attempted to restore iPhone. It then needs to connect to the iPhone software update server but it has been trying to do this all night and cannot.
Any ideas? Unsurprisingly I can't get an appointment at the Apple store until Friday and am without a phone in the meantime.
Many thanks
