I am getting a Error couldn't resolve host name when i try and connect to the playbook browser. It says i am connected to my wi-fi from the wi-fi screen, but when i try to connect to any apps it says i am not connected to the internet. I have Os version 1.0.8.4985. I am also using a linksys 54g wireless router. Can anyone help me? I am going crazy trying to figure this out All i want to do is be able to use my new playbook.

Delete wifi connection on PB, reboot router and setup the wifi connection again and report back

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • IMac isn't loading a specific website (can't connect to that server), regardless of browser, though the same website will load on other computers on same network. Is it an issue with the iMac's settings?

Our iMac isn't loading a specific website (we get a message saying it can't connect to that specific server), regardless of browser (I've tried it in Chrome, Safari, and Firefox). However, the same website, which is for a major medical provider, loads without any issue on our other computers on the same wireless network. Is it an issue with the iMac's settings? All other websites seem to be loading without issue on the iMac.

... Is it an issue with the iMac's settings?
Possibly. Make sure you are not using a proxy server. Look in Safari Preferences > Advanced > Proxies > "Change Settings..." This will take you to the applicable Network Preferences. Make sure that nothing is selected in the "select a protocol to configure" list. It should look like this:
    Still not working?
Locate your Terminal app. It is in your Utilities folder. Open Terminal.
In Terminal, copy (triple-click) and paste the following line:
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item'
This will produce a list of all your account login items.
While you are in Terminal, copy (triple-click) and paste the following line:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'
This will produce a list of all non-Apple kernel extensions. There will be few, if any.
Post the results of the above.

  • TS3276 Connect to internet via browser over Airport Express, but Mail app can't connect to internet

Hi - I just moved to a new apartment, and I have an Airport Express that is allowing me to connect to the internet through a browser, but Mail keeps telling me that it can't connect to the internet. I'm guessing it has something to do with the network settings for my Airport Express? Not sure what the right configuration should be. Thanks!

In Mail, from the Window menu select Connection Doctor - any feedback there? Within the window click on Network Diagnostics to see if it offers any clues.

  • Can't connect to any webpages with any browser

Our Powerbook G4 can not connect to any webpages with any browser (safari, firefox, IE) but other TCP/IP applications work fine. IE, the AOL application can connect via TCP/IP, iChat and skype both work fine.
    Any idea?
    Thanks,
    Alan

It sounds to me like either a DNS server issue, or your Mac is looking for a web proxy and not finding it.
If you don't have the DNS server filled out in your network settings, find out the DNS IP info from an ISP and try inputting it.
Also, click on the Proxies tab in Network Settings to see if you have a proxy configuration listed (either automatic config or manually inputted proxies per port). If you do, disable the proxies and try again. If not, see if you can get the web proxy info for where you are from either your ISP or your work place.

  • Safari 5.1.1 can't connect to the internet.  Every other browser can.

I've tried resetting Safari, reinstalling Safari, and resetting my router to factory settings.  Safari still can't connect to the internet, but everything else on my Mac (Snow Leopard 10.6.8) can.
I recently tried setting up Open DNS just because I've had problems with Comcast lately.  But I've since returned DNS to be detected automatically.
    Thoughts?

    Back up all data.
Unlock the Network preference pane, if necessary, by clicking the lock icon in the lower left corner and entering your password. Cllck Advanced, open the DNS tab, and change the server addresses to the following:
              8.8.8.8
              8.8.4.4
That's Google DNS. Click OK, then Apply.
    In Safari, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If you’re using another browser, empty the cache. Test. Any difference?
    Notes:
    1. If you lose Internet access after making the above change to your network settings, delete the Google servers in the  Network preference pane, then select the TCP/IP tab and click Renew DHCP Lease. That should restore the original DNS settings; otherwise restore them yourself. Remember that you must click Apply in order for any changes to take effect.
    2. I don't use Google DNS myself, though I have tested it, and I'm not recommending it or any other DNS provider; the server addresses are offered merely for testing purposes. There may be privacy and technical issues involved in using that service, which you should investigate personally before you decide whether to keep the settings. Other public DNS services exist.

    # also has a small subnet behind his connecting
    # machine, such as 192.168.40.128/255.255.255.248.

    # Then create a file ccd/Thelonious with this line:
    # iroute 192.168.40.128 255.255.255.248
    # This will allow Thelonious' private subnet to
    # access the VPN. This example will only work
    # if you are routing, not bridging, i.e. you are
    # using "dev tun" and "server" directives.
    # EXAMPLE: Suppose you want to give
    # Thelonious a fixed VPN IP address of 10.9.0.1.
    # First uncomment out these lines:
    ;client-config-dir ccd
    ;route 10.9.0.0 255.255.255.252
    # Then add this line to ccd/Thelonious:
    # ifconfig-push 10.9.0.1 10.9.0.2
    # Suppose that you want to enable different
    # firewall access policies for different groups
    # of clients. There are two methods:
    # (1) Run multiple OpenVPN daemons, one for each
    # group, and firewall the TUN/TAP interface
    # for each group/daemon appropriately.
    # (2) (Advanced) Create a script to dynamically

  • How do I access Firefox when Norton 360 firewall seems to be blocking access but all links on Norton 360 default to Mozilla page which can't connect?

I'm writing this via a Windows Explorer browser window which should tell you the problem, or at least that I can't connect through Mozilla Firefox.
Mozilla has been my default for years and I've always had Norton, 360 for the last few years. I've been through the traditional update problems with Toolbar/ID Safe and both of those are working fine.
Both were updated to absolute latest version within the last week due to an Update/Restart problem I was having with Windows 8.
There were some periodic problems with initializing the Norton problems which generally led to a Firefox not responding situation.
But I was able to run both quick and complete scans yesterdays and the Norton Autofix tells me no problems with their program/app.
I just downloaded newest Mozilla 25.0.1 last night again as last resort because I can't access Firefox beyond the homepage.
Spotify also told me there appeared to be a firewall blocking access. I also can't access iTunes.
I went to Windows 8 Action Center and it listed Norton 360 as controlling the firewall.
But I went to the allow apps through Windows Firewall tab in System anyway and didn't see any listing for Mozilla or Firefox there (maybe you have a less obvious filename).
My own network connection is working fine, obviously I'm on Explorer and no problems with my other computer.
I'm going to contact Norton to deal with this problem, too.
But my real problem now is that any attempt to contact the Symantec/Norton help/support site is automatically sent through a Firefox page which can't connect.
Right now I can't figure out how to do a tech chat or something to work at it from their end.
So that's why I'm here asking if you've run into this or know any way around it.
Obviously, the quicker a response the better.
    Thanks for your time.
    Ciao 4 now,
    Don Snowden

    Hello J Scher,
I don't know if this answer solves it, but I did contact Norton Support through IE and the tech had me download Firefox again...just like I did the night before on my own. But for the moment, for whatever reason, all those issues have gone away, knock on wood three million times. I can access Norton support pages, I can get on Spotify and I can reach the iTunes store.
I will freely admit to not being a great computer person but I have no idea why my machine did this to me all weekend and why it cleared up now, unless the Norton tech did some behind-the-scenes tweakery. But for now, I'm okay and things are working, knock on wood four million more times (figure I better up the ante).
    Thanks for your help.
    Don Snowden

    Hello Cat0z,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
When doing your troubleshooting for this issue where your iPhone is unable to connect to the iTunes Store, did you go through the article below?

  • I have a Kindle and can't connect the WiFi. is this a Firefox problem?

Ehrn I try to connect I get the message that Kindle can't connect.
    Also what is the router?

I'm unable to connect to Kindle & purchase books using the Kindle Windows PC app. as long as Mozilla 4.0 is installed on my PC.
I wasn't able to "Register" my PC (Asus Slate Eee 121). The app. kept giving me a timeout message. The app. had actually been pre-loaded by Asus.
After going through several install/uninstall cycles with several pieces of software, checking the registry, etc., I finally uninstalled Mozilla 4.0 and cleaned the registry of any trace.
After I removed Mozilla 4.0, the Kindle app. works fine with IE. IE isn't my preferred browser... . Anything to do with protection levels?

  • Can't connect to App Store or iTunes Store

For the past two days, I haven't been able to connect to the App Store or iTunes Store. This is happening on all Apple devices connected to my home network - a new iMac, iPad Air, and iPhone 5. Every attempt to open the App Store or iTunes Store results in a spinning wheel for a few minutes followed by an error message "Can't connect to the (App/iTunes) Store". The App Store will display the Updates and Purchased Items, but that's all. It will not open Featured or Top Charts. I have tried with wifi and with an ethernet cable to connect the iMac. Here's where things get weird. My iPhone will open the App Store and iTunes Store if I turn off wifi and use LTE. I can do the same with my iPad if I use the iPhone as a hotspot. I connected the iPhone to two different wifi networks away from home and had the same issue... works over LTE cellular, but not wifi. In addition to this, all of the Apple support pages load extremely slowly, I am using an Airport Extreme as router. I've reset the cable modem, reset the router, reset network setting on the devices, powered down all devices, etc. All other web apps and web pages load just fine. Only those related to App Store, iTunes and Apple Support seem to be affected. The Apple main and product pages also load with no problem. Is anyone else having problems with the App Store and iTunes Store? Is there an obscure setting somewhere that I'm missing? Everything was working fine until a couple of days ago.
