Can't Connect to Cell Carrier

Embarrassed to ask but need help.   I just set up my new Iphone 5 but I still can't make calls. I upgraded from another Iphone with the same AT&T account. Do I have to call AT&T to activate or do I need to redo something with ITunes?
Thanks- F

Please remove the sim and reinsert it. If it still doesn't work, you need to contact your Carrier.

  • IPad 3 keeps saying it can't connect to cell network even though I've got full bars

My iPad 3 is on the O2 network in the UK. Pretty much every day on my commute or whenever I go onto 3G as opposed to wifi I will have full bars, an apparently strong connection, but the iPad will insist it can't connect to the Internet because there's no active cell connection. I have tried every trick in the book to get it to recognise the network that it can clearly see perfectly well, but the only thing that works is turning the device properly off and on again.
It actually happened while I was writing this message in fact: surfed to this page, wrote the post, pressed Submit and the iPad old me there was no Internet. Had to restart and repost.
    Anyone else seeing this?

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

  • Can I connect my cell phone to my iPad?

I want to connect my cell phone to my iMac through bluetooth in order to transfer the photos I took on the phone to my iPad. Is this possible? I've established a connection through bluetooth but I can't do anything with it. If this isn't possible on the iPad is it doable on the iMac? I'm using an aqueous/sharp handset.
    Cheers

Eight track! I even had a four track in my Nova before the eight track came out.

  • Danish iPhone 4 can't connect to a carrier in the UK

Strange, never had this problem in 2 years with the same iPhone 4. I landed in the UK yesterday and swirtched off flight mode but it won't connect to a carrier.
I tried switching off automatic and it then found five networks but if I select any one of them I get a pop up saying the carrier is 'no longer available'.
    WiFi is working fine though.
I tried rebooting a couple of times and taking the SIM out. No luck there. I also tried the network settings reset but that didn;t work either.
Very puzzled - it has always worked in the past without any problem and I haven't damaged it in any way that I'm aware of. It's also not locked out as some phones are - I travel alot and frequently use roaming without any problems..
Anyone else had this problem? Anyone know of a solution?

Looks like international data roaming was turned off for some reason!
Turned it back on and got an option for AT&T or T-Mobile.
Anyone got an idea which is better or is there no real difference?

  • How to have Wifi on and not connected to Cell carrier

    Hi:
I am traveling abroad and I would like to be able to switch on wifi but I do not want to connect to the local cell phone carrier since AT&T charges so much. For example it is 50 cents to receive a text message. I would like to just have wifi.
I am on plane mode right now to listen to the music and wifi is off.
    Thanks for your help.

The only way to do this is to physically remove your SIM card. Pop it out and none of the Phone functions work, but you can still use the iPod and the WiFi.
Turning off Data roaming will only prevent EDGE from accessing the net - you will still get calls and texts.

  • I can't connect my cell number to iPad 1

I have an iPad 1. At one time my iPhone number was connected to it to use iMessage.  Currently I can receive iMessages via my email only, and not via the iPhone number.  I would appreciate any ideas how to link cellphone number to the iPad.  Any help is appreciated

You are probably going to have to sign out of/turn off Messages on the phone and the iPad and then start all over again and enable messages on the phone first so that the number is accessible again to use on the iPad in Settings>Messages>Send and Receive at>You can be reached by iMessages at. You need to be able to select your phone number in there.
This kb article explains it in detail.

  • IPad 3g Can't connect to Swisscom Carrier

    Hi,
I received my New iPad on thursday last week.
and bought a micro sim on friday at the Swisscom shop (switzerland)
But I've never been able to correctly use the 3G.
Sometimes it connects to the network and retrieves my e-mails.
but one minute later it doesn't work anymore.
I went to the swisscom shop again, and told them this.
They tried everything : is the micro sim activated : yes, change the micro sim : yes, call their technical service for more informations : yes, reboot of the iPad: yes.
So if anyone has a clue, I would be happy to hear it !
    Thanks in advance.
    Stephane

I got my iPad from fnac on Friday and got the sim activated to Swisscom. I could not download anything so I went to the Swisscom shop on Monday and they went through the activation process again and it is now working.
From what you say this has already been tried, and with a second sim. Sadly it sounds like the iPad itself is at fault if both sims fail to work. There is an Apple shop in Geneva, if you are nearby, maybe they can test the iPad in store or try your sim another iPad.

  • I have an iPad 2 without a sim card, can I connect my iPhone 1 and use the phone as a cell for the ipad?

I have an iPad 2 without a phone simcard, can I connect my iPhone to the iPad and use this as my cell connection?
    Thanks

Not if it's a first gen iPhone, the personal hotspot/internet tethering is only possible on the iPhone 3G and later (and then oly if your carrier supports it) : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3574

  • Can i connect the NI 9401 to the 9162 carrier

Hello, can I connect the NI 9401 to the USb-9162 carrier, instead of having to buy the cDAQ-9172 for just one Module ?
    ciao, grazie
    M. Petrolekas

The NI 9401 is currently not supported for the USB-9162.  I don't know what application you have in mind but you also might want to consider some of NI's other USB devices such as the USB-6212/6, USB-6501, or any of the USB-622x or USB-625x devices.

  • HT4623 Can you update a 3GS without being connected to a carrier?

I have an Iphone 3GS that was purchased to operate an ARdrone and needs to be updated to IOS5 to operate, can it be updated without being connected to a carrier? it is unlocked and when I go to settings then general there is no update tab to sellect?

You can't update over the air unless you're already running iOS 5 or higher. You can update using iTunes. You WILL need a SIM, but it does not have to be tied to active service.

  • Iphone4 can't connect to carrier

I have an Iphone4 that was dropped in the water.  I took it apart and cleaned it with alcohol and everything is working..... except it will not connect to a carrier.  I can use the wifi but not it wont connect to any carrier.  Please help!!!  Is there a part I need to replace?  Thanks for any help you can give.

I guess your definition of "everything is working" is different from most folks.
There are no legitimate sources for iPhone parts. Since you opened it, Apple won't touch it.
Find a competent 3rd party repair shop or buy a new phone.
It would have been much less expensive either way to have just gotten an out of warranty replacement from Apple for $149.  you don't have that option now.

  • Need to know what cell carriers/phones support bluetooth tethering

I had the MotoQ9C for about a year and was using it (OS Windows Mobile 6.0) to tether with my macbook with no problems. However, the phone went belly up and they sent me a replacement. It had the 6.1 OS. Well, it no longer worked with the Macbook after that. So aggrivating. After much discussion with my cell carrier, Alltel, they let me out of my contract a year and a half early because this is a feature I MUST have with my phone and they claimed to have no OS and no phones which would support it.
SO, now I am on the hunt for a new service provider and a new phone. I have to be able to tether with my Mac. Have to. I was using it on a daily basis before I was sent the new phone and I am beyond annoyed that I suddenly can't do it anymore. The Alltel sup basically told me, "good luck" when I asked if she knew of any providers who DID support the Mac/phone tethering. She said she didn't know of any herself and she's been in the industry to 6 years. Ugh.
So, I know it can be done but I need help finding out how, who and where. If anyone is able to tether with their phone, could you please send me info on who you're using, what phone and how to set it up??? I'm on the hunt and need this info yesterday. : )
    Thanks in advance!

AT&T is correct (and donv doesn't seem to understand 'tethering' in this context) - tethering is currently not supported with the iPhone - not via USB nor Bluetooth. The iPhone itself is capable of tethering (either BT or USB) and can be used like that with carriers in other countries. AT&T may decide to support tethering via the iPhone at some point in the future, and will likely charge the same as they do for their other smartphones - an additional $30/month on top of the data plan.
So at the present time, the iPhone is not what you're looking for. But, any carrier with a device that supports tethering on their network will work with the MBP (phones from Nokia, Samsung, etc., BlackBerrys, whatever, from Verizon, AT&T, etc.).
@donv - "Tethering" means using a cell phone as a wireless modem to connect your Mac to the internet. The iPod Touch lacks a cellular radio, so tethering is moot.

  • [SOLVED] Intel 7260 Vaio can't connect to wifi

    Hi there,
First off, I should mention that I know my way around Linux but I'm pretty new to Arch, so there might be things that I know that don't apply here.
So, I have this problem with this network, I can't connect to it and frankly I don't know why. I was on Ubuntu until a few days ago and I still had the problem. I posted on the Ubuntu forum >>here<< and I was told to upgrade, but as I've been willing to move to Arch for quite some time, I thought that was maybe the time. BUT, the problem is still there, which worries me.
To sum it up, about one or two weeks ago, I was connecting fine to this network (ZyXEL) and then after a reboot, no way to connect to it, no matter what I try. I have noticed an error message that keeps coming back all the time (see below) and the wifi indicator in i3status sometimes flashes me with an IP while I'm trying to connect then eventually the network disappears (not with wicd, only nm). Those are basically the symptoms.

I have had troubles with the wifi in the past (from what I read on the internet, this card is not yet fully supported everywhere) but nothing like this. Usually, disconnecting and reconnecting did the trick, sometimes I had to restart NetworkManager in extreme cases, but nothing more.
I tried a lot of things (modprobe, rfkill, firmware update, etc), rebooted everything I could but couldn't do anything. I have found bug reports and forums posts of similar problems but the solutions there either didn't work for me or the problem just seem to have disappeared for some people. I read that this card was not really supported before the kernel 3.11 or 3.13 but now I have 3.16 and it's still there. What's really bugging me is that I could successfully connect to this network a couple weeks ago...
On the Ubuntu forum, they have a script that displays useful information when posting about wireless problems. I have taken off the Ubuntu specific bits and I think this will save you some time asking me to run commands. One thing is not mentioned in the script: I use wicd.

I have the exact same problem, appeared completely random. I had several restarts this Christmas on the laptop, even after upgrades. I blamed the ath driver. But I noticed when I restart the router by plugging out it from the wall, then in again, sometimes it's working.
I carefully changed every possible settings in the router, then I found if I disable IPv6 (yes, it's capable of that despite Sky does not provide IPv6 service) it started to work even after multiple reboots. It took mi a while since the new year.
I'm using connman and when it was wrong, connman was completely frozen. If I entered "connmanctl scan wifi", it never quit. Same for "connmanctl state".
I also noticed that the router LED was blinking continuously and on the laptop when I checked the connection status with ifconfig it showed very high usage of TX packets. It also blocked the whole wifi, so my phone was not able to access the internet. Strange problem, I'm unsure what caused it and not quite sure how disabling IPv6 solved it. But I'm also afraid that maybe somewhere else I can't disable IPv6 on the router.

  • After update I can't connect to the internet in no way, shape or form

I rarely update because: 1) something always breaks when you update (like now) and 2) I don't like to deal with new crap like GNOME 3. Anyway:
I bought a new router (TL-WR1043N) and configured it with an old Ubuntu because connecting to 192.168.1.1 didn't work on any of my Arch Linux installations. Now... here's where it all starts... I can't use the 'n' wireless on my laptop since I have to install something to use WPA, and to install that I need to update, but I don't want to deal with GNOME 3 and Firefox >3. But I gave up eventually gave up and connected my laptop to the router by Ethernet cable. Setting that up was very easy: 'ifconfig eth0 up; dhcpcd'. Voila! I updated my whole system and restarted. To see how badly I damaged my system I opened Nautilus (I use Openbox with some GNOME programs): shock and dismay, the fonts are visible from the moon. I guess I'll have to quit using GNOME programs completely now but I expected that. I used to use KDE back in the day and when KDE4 came forth from that unholy pit, I immediately abandoned it for GNOME. This time we had more time to prepare, everybody knew what GNOME 3 was going to be. I started using Openbox quite a long time ago.
Anyway: Now to fix my wireless right? WRONG! I can't connect to the internet on cable to get the packages for wireless. I installed Windows 7 64 on the same laptop and it connects to the cable. Ubuntu 9.10 Live also connects, but due to the changes of rc.conf and network stuff I can't connect at all with Arch Linux.
So I decided to abandon it completely and reinstall from scratch. But the Live CD also doesn't work. With all the ways I've tried it all comes down to this:
dhcpcd always times out waiting for a carrier and 'ip addr' shows 'eth0: <NO-CARRIER, ....' if the interface is up. I'm not sure what information I should give you, but I can't paste any here since I can't connect to the damn internet on that laptop.
About the router: the cable is plugged on port 1 and the LED for it flashes if I reboot the computer. In Windows it stops flashing while it connects and flashes again when connected. I removed 'network' from DAEMONS and it flashes till I start it with '/etc/rc.d/network start'. This hangs for a while and returns '[DONE]' even though it doesn't work and the LED never flashes again on the router.
In rc.conf I have exactly what the example says for DHCP. In any case, it doesn't work with the Live CD either.
EDIT 1: From lscpi: painstakingly typed:
06:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection (rev 61)
07:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconducctor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 01)
EDIT 2: Just to be clear: I can use the wireless on the laptop on the Live CD, but I want to use the cable because of the greater speed (94Mbit/s on cable 60 something on wireless n, 20 something on g) and because I rarely move the laptop.
EDIT 3: lspci -v shows "Kernel driver in use: r8169   /   Kernel modules: r8169", so the driver is loaded.
EDIT 4: So if I boot from the CD. ip addr shows:
eth: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN qlen 1000
        link/ether 00:1d:92:...etc... brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
And  the LED flashes. When I type: "ifconfig eth0 up" it stops, never to light up again and ip addr shows: "eth: <nO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state DOWN qlen 1000

When you're in Arch, use output redirection
    lspci >lspci.out
then boot into Ubuntu or something where you can access the files and the BBS,  Of course, don't forget to use a new file for each command output.
The new network config in rc.conf is not that complicated (wired anyway; never used wireless).  OTOH I've had issues on two machines where I have to restart the network daemon (rc.d restart network) or rerun netcfg (netcfg eth0) after boot to get connectivity. And I still haven't come to grips with the ip command.

I plan on buying a new  I Pad wit wifi and cell from Apple. But  I don't want to select a cell carrier right now. Q 1: Do I have to select a carrier at purchase? and Q 2, In the meantime will I be able to get on line at home using my Cox Internet wi fi? Thanks.

Thanks for the help. Now I can feel comfortable in not having to sign up for cellular when I buy, esp. Since I'll be using my new IPad mostly at home on my Cox wi fi. Then I can see, in using the i pad, how often I'd actually use the cellular, and where. This can help decide which type of cell plan I get. Small problem it may seem, but a very helpful answer. Thanks.
