Can't connect to email

As the subject line states, I suddenly find that I can't send or retrieve email over either of my iPod's Mail accounts - a POP account (with my IP provider) mirroring the account on my desktop, and a GMAIL account. (I'm using the MacMini's Airport as my wireless link to the net.)
I've tried syncing the iPod as well as checking the settings manually (the only difference that appeared was that the desktop version of my IP account had SSL turned off, and the iPod had it turned on - but neither setting made any difference). Meanwhile, I'm able to surf the web without any problem, and CAN use the GMAIL account if I access it through the iPod's Safari interface.
I have a vague impression that I had this problem before, at which time I COULD access the email through someone else's open wireless connection somewhere in the neighborhood, but not through my own AirPort connection. I can't swear to it, as I was having various connection problems at the time, but if that symptom sounds familiar to anyone, perhaps it could help lead to a solution.

A bit of added information. I just got back from a public wireless hotspot where I had no trouble whatsoever receiving and sending email though both accounts on the iPod. So whereas my MacMini AirPort connection allows web surfing, and I can both surf and use email away from home, the iPod 'cannot connect' to my email through my own computer.
Apple REALLY has to fix it's wireless implementation - this is an embarrassment.
Anybody come up against this or have any suggestions?

  • Can't connect to email account

    I have a nokia x6 and a yahoo7 email account.  I used the setup on the phone to get all the settings and when I click to connect to my email my user name and password comes up and after I enter that in it says it is connecting to yahoo7 the it keep going back to the username and password screen.  I'm sure it is the right name and password for my y7mail account.

    I recently changed my ATT U-Verse password…and Mail quit working… it wouldn't send or receive, Safari worked fine.  I tried to send an email and a warning message popped up, "Mail, Contacts and Calendars preferences can't connect to the Yahoo account "bellsouth.net". In smaller type the next sentence read, "Enter the password for user [email protected]". The Password box was highlighted in blue so I just typed in my new password and my email message was immediately sent…but… I still couldn't receive messages AND the above "can't connect" warning message kept popping up on the screen at random.
    Here's the Fix that worked for me. (The problem is that the new password was changed/updated on the keychains "smpt.att.yahoo.com" name-but- the name "pop.att.yahoo.com" didn't update to my new password).
    Go to your Utility windows and select Keychain Access. Under Category select Passwords. Now check your password for your current (newest dated) name, "smpt.att.yahoo.com". Now check the password under, "pop.att.yahoo.com". Mine wasn't the same as my newest password found in my
    "smpt.att.yahoo.com" window so I deleted my old password in the "pop.att.yahoo.com" window and typed in my new password, then selected "Save Changes". MY MAIL NOW WORKED…and no more warning messages cropped up. Problem was fixed.

    I found out what the problem was. It was Norton. when I turned off email scanning, my outlook stated sending and receiving again. 

  • How can I connect my email on mulitple devices

    I have my email (and my kids' email) on my mini mac, my ipad and my iphone.  But they aren't connected.  If I go thru my mail on one device, it's still unread on the others. It accumulates and I have to delete what I don't want three times.  My work email is also on my phone, but when I delete an email from my phone it also deletes it from my laptop.  So I only have to deal with each email one time.  How can I set up my personal email on the multiple devices so I only have to do things once?

    With multiple devices, one thing you can do is to set each to delete mail on the server after retrieving it. So if you download mail on your iPhone, it deletes what it downloaded so the iPad and mini won't see that mail.

  • Suddenly iPad can't connect to email account

    This is the second time in a year this has happened. My iPad suddenly cannot connect to my email server. It claims the password is wrong but it isn't (my Mac Mail can connect and my iphone can connect). I went ahead and re-entered the password on the ipad just in case but it still gives the same error. I also tried disabling and re-enabling the account that didn't work either.
    The last time this happened the only way I was able to fix it was to delete the email account completely and recreate it. That's very painful because it means the iPad has to resync that email account and it has 10's of thousands of messages.
    Does anyone know of another way to get email to this account working again short of the above?

    I'm 100% postive the account settings were not change on either end, like I said my Macs and iphone and old ipad2 can still fetch/send mail on that acount just fine.
    I forgot to say I also did a ''reset network settings'' on the ipad to see if that would have any effect but that did nothing either.
    All these machines are on my same home network so it can't be a firewall issue
    BTW, I was at Apple for 21 years, 1987-2008, in SW development writing the OS X Kernel so I am pretty familiar with all this stuff .  However, this sudden inability of ios Mail to connect to one of my accounts (there are 4 email accounts in my ios Mail app and only one has this issue) is a little out of my normal area of expertise.
    I seem to recall that the last time this happened and I told some people someone said I could have done "X" to get it working again instead of deleting and re-creating the entire email account but of course I can't remember what that was.

    We had an email outage in my area that started 8/26.  It has been fixed according to support.  I can access my verizon.net email using web client, but cannot connect via POP clients.  Authentication fails.  Any ideas?

    BTW it would be nice if the driver update scanner actually worked on the HP website. 

  • Can't connect to email program

    I have Windows 7 Home and using windows live for e-mail. I also have outlook 2007 installed. For quite a while now I've been able to send an email attachment out of Acrobat Pro 9.4.4 with no problems. I installed several windows 7 updates recently and now I find that when I try to send an email from Acrobat I get the following message: "Acrobat is unable to connect to your email program"
    I've gone into windows 7 and set the default programs correctly but it still doesn't work. Does anyone have a solution?

    Live mail is not a supported email client for Acrobat 9. However you can try the following settings:
    1) Make sure that live mail is the default email client. Go to Start menu and check the default programs.
    2) Even if it is the default program check the 2 registry settings:
         a) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail : Default should have the value Windows Live Mail
         b) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Clients\Mail : Default should have the value Windows Live Mail   
    If it still doesnt work, install Reader X and then try this again. It should work.

    My Iphone is unable to connect to my email. It was working perfectly until this morning and the email screen says 'Connecting' but it never connects.

    Bless you! Thank you for taking the time for posting such a simple solution. I have been wasting a lot of time trying to set my email account. Nothing was working until I read your post. A soft reset did the trick!

  • 9300 Can't connect for email after upgrade

    I am going to try to make this as simple and short as possible. I have a 9300 and it was due for upgrade from A T & T spouse has Iphone wanted new one not in upgrade period. Used my number to do upgrade now email doesn't work on 9300. AT & T Tech tried to help but it was a no go. They stated that Rim might have disabled something but not sure any assistance is wonderful. (even a link to fix it is fine also if it has been posted befor)

    I hve a feeling the carrier took away your blackberry data plan.  Call the carrier and confirm that your blackberry has the correct data plan attached.  I have a feeling since you used your number to upgrade another phone, the required data plan for the blackberry has been removed.  I don't think RIM disabled anything, but the carrier did.

  • Can't connect BIS/BES

    I got a Curve 8530 earlier this week with service through Virgin Mobile. Regular phone service is working great, but I still can't connect to email. Further investigation showed that I am not connected to BIS/BES. I have followed the instructions for registering, and have 2 messages in my inbox telling me that I have successfully registered my device. I even took the battery out and put it back in, but nothing works. What can I do to connect?

    When you say you cannot connect to email what do you mean? Have you gone into the email setup wizard?

    Sometimes deleting the account and then re-creating it can solve this issue
    Write down all the information in accounts before doing this
    Highlight the account on the left and click the minus button
    Then click the plus button to add the new account and follow the prompts

    Upgraded to Yosemite.  When I connect to my usual VPN connection, I can no longer connect to email, internet, etc.  Only happening on my MacBook Pro.  My iMac works fine.  Thoughts?

    Richard, I think there's a solution. Found this on another support site:

    ..."Just simply add domain.local in the pane of Search Domains which is in Network / VPN / Advanced / DNS tab"
    Did just that and now .local's resolve correctly. (make sure to restart the vpn connection to apply the new search).

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
    It sounds like you're seeing an alert message when opening Mail on your iOS devices. Do you have multiple email accounts setup on the devices? Take a look at the article below, it provides suggestions that will resolve most issues that  cause an alert like that to appear in when starting the Mail app.

    Can't 'Scan to Email' on USB connected printer to 2nd AE (in Bridge mode extending wireless network).
    Prints fine though.
    Printer is set to static IP adress (192.168.0.50).
    Upstream Router is: 192.168.0.1 (this is connected to first AE).
    When the printer was previously attached (by ethernet cable) to 1st AE, everything was working fine and I could login to printer Admin page via Safari by tying IP Address.

    Only the print function is supported when a multi-function device is connected to the USB port on an AirPort router.
    Advanced features like scan, copy, maintenance, etc are not supported at the USB port.
