Can't connect to Essbase

Hi all,
we installed today Essbase 11.1.1.3 on 64-bit Windows. We are not used to install Essbase but everything went fine and we got everything installed normally. When we try to connect to Essbase Administration Services, we get following error:
Network error [10061]: Unable to connect to [172.17.17.62:1423]. The client timed out waiting to connect to Essbase Agent using TCP/IP.
We have tried:
- path variables
- sec-file change
- restarting several sevices, including java
- server name instead of ip-address
- checked hosts- and services-files
This is probably some kind of configuration problem, agent is down or something but we just don't know what we should do to get rid of this message.

Essbase seems to be running OK. I stopped the process and started it again via start menu.

    it hangs for hours after this. I can connect in eas and ping the server. tried using the IP as well? Any thoughts?

    After installing and configuring planning. I was able to create data source and application. When I shot down and restart the machine. The diagnostics report highlighted these srrors

  • Unable to connect to Essbase via EAS after server re-ip

    Hi all,
    One of our environments have had the servers moved to new IP addresses. The DB server was completed changed so I had to reconfigure the environment, using the same databases, and redeployed all the components. Everything worked apart from EAS. It would not launch from the URL nor would it work if the console was installed on a server or PC. I logged an SR and it was suggested to update java which I did but it made no difference. A remote session yielded nothing. I decided to uninstall EAS and reinstall it dropping the tables in the DB and having them recreated as we use calc man for Planning. The EAS console now launches but I can't connect to Essbase. It just hangs and complains of an invalid log in. I tried the native admin account but that made no difference.     EAS is installed on the same server as Planning, APS, RA etc. essbase is on a separate box as are the sql databases so in all 3 servers for this environment.
    Essbase is definitely started as I can connect to it using EAS from another environment and retrieve database from the apps in excel.

    If you are able to connect to Essbase using EAS from another Server or PC. and in that Server only if you not able to connect to Essbase using EAS
    it is Java issue only. (Ensure ESSBASE.EXE process is there in Essbase Server)
    Which version of Hyyperion you are using??
    Uninstall Java and install again.

    I have a problem about Essbase Administration console.After I install all the product of the Essbase, (includeing the 6540ns?6540na?6540am?654032?6540rt?eas653_nt). i can't connect the Essbase Administration console to the Essabse OLAP server.The Administrator server,username and password is correct but there is "can't connect to the server"error. All the installtion process this time is the same as berfore i have done, and there was no question when connectting to the Essabse OLAP server before. I don't know how to solve this problem, and it hold back me to continue my other work. the essbase OlAp server and the Essbase Administration console are both installed on the same PC, useing window2000 professional best regards Lornawei

Analyzer and spreadsheet add_in can connectted to the server correctly.I installed the EAS not as as a Windows service,and i cann't even login to the EAS console,and check the EAS log i remember there is some wrong with connect the Mysql services.yesterday i installed the EAS as as a Windows service,and have connect to the server correctly mannually.I don't know why I can't install the EAS not as as a Windows service now.

    It is not possible to create a database connection to Essbase cluster from Web Analysis (WA) Studio. The following error message is displayed:
    "Unable to retrieve the list of available databases"
    And the detail:
    [1033] Native: 1003 Error: Create connection failed [For input string:
    [ApsServer=, OlapServer=[HOST];]]
    Foundation Services, Agent, Financial Reporting and Web Analysis are enabled.
    As additional information from EAS can seamlessly connect to Essbase server.
    The EPM version is 11.1.2.2

    Hi ,
    For creating a WebAnalysis database connection, please make sure you do the following :
    1. Verify if you have Essbase client installed on the WebAnalysis server.
    2. Check if the path of adm drivers are mentioned in the system environment variable -> PATH entries.
    3. Try giving the Essbase server name instead of the cluster name when attempting to create a connection.
    4. The error 1003 means it doesnt seem to create a connection with the server and while attempting it fails.
    Make sure you have all the parameters mentioned correctly in the server details.
    To get detailed information on what is causing the problem, make sure you stop the WebAnalysis service and start it from console .

    What happens when you try and refresh the database, Administration > Application > Refresh Database > Select Database and Refresh
    Does it still error out? If so are you sure you can login into essbase using say EAS of Maxl
    If it does let you refresh, does it still error when you go back to the form?

When I tried to open Essbase Administration Console and there is no option to open administration console and I opened the Hyperion extraction setup folder and I installed Essbase Administration Console setup manuallay and after sucessful installation I try to Open and when I create new server and ir=ts created and then I am trying to connect server its throw this error
    Error: Can not Connect to Administration Server
    Please give me possitive things.

    Did you deploy the web applications to one managed server in the configurator, if you did then EAS is probably running on port 9000 so you would need to enter the server in the EAS console as servername:9000

  • SmartView 11.1.2 Can't Connect to Shared Services

    I have posted this thread on the essbase forum, also...
    I have installed 11.1.2 on Windows 2008 (64bit) in stand-alone mode. I also have Excel 2007 installed on the same machine. I took all of the default ports when setting up the server instance. I installed SmartView(32bit) on the same machine with no errors. When I try to connect to "Shared Connctions" through the SmartView home window, I keep receiveing an error message: "Connection to Shared Services failed Error Message: 'Cannot connect to provider. The server name could not be resolved.' I have tried replacing the server name with it's physical IP address,; I have tried all of the typical ports; but cannot seem to resolve the problem. My URL reads as follows: "http://testsys:13080/workspace/SmartViewProviders' I have a 11.1.1.3 instance on another server works fine, but the URL is a bit different (http://server:13080/aps/SmartView). I have tested and confirmed that all of the shared services are up and running and can be accessed from either EAS console or a web browser. Any help would be appreciated.

    Have you installed and APS (Analytic Provider Server) on your system..??
    As I know, to connecting to Essbase using Smartview, we need to install the APS on our system.

    How can i find what is the max. no. of users connections is allowed for essbase. If there is some setting in EAS console or we can define it through MAXL. We are using very old version (version 6- using ESSCMD commands). We have already provided access to about 475 users. 200 more users are waiting for access.

    Herewith the relevant parameter you can define in your ESSBASE.CFG - it should answer your question:
    MAXLOGINS
    Sets a limit on the number of user sessions that can be connected to the Essbase Server at any one time.
    Syntax
    MAXLOGINS n
    n Any integer from 1000 to 1048575 is valid. The default value is 10000.
    Description
    This setting limits the maximum number of user sessions allowed to connect to the Essbase Server at any one time. This number includes multiple instances of the same user.
    You may wish to adjust the value of MAXLOGINS to match computer resources, or to more closely manage concurrent ports and user sessions. A concurrent port is used for each unique combination of client machine, Essbase Server and login name. For example, the same user > with five open Excel worksheets connected to the same Essbase Server use one port, but five sessions.
    Notes
    Increasing the value of MAXLOGINS increases memory use approximately 6 bytes per user session.
    If the setting is less than the minimum value, 1000, the value is assumed to be 1000.
    Example
    MAXLOGINS 50000
    increases the maximum number of simultaneous logins possible, from the default of 10000 to 50000. > Kind regards

  • Error connecting to Essbase Server when running business rules

    We recently migrated from v9.3 to v11.1.1.3. I have two users with Administrative access who need to run business rules on a native Essbase application, but cannot. They get the message 'Error connecting to Essbase Server'. They get this message when trying to set this execution database. They can't even expand the server to see the list of applications. I have tried deprovisioning them in Shared Services, refreshing security, then adding it all back in and refreshing again, but it doesn't work. My own id has identical access to that which I'm granting them, and I have no problems. I even created a native user with the same access and it works as well. No matter what I do, I cannot get these two users to be able to run their business rules in EAS.
    We also have a Planning application, and the Planning Administrative user has the same issue. However, this user is able to get around it by running rules using the Planning connection rather than the Essbase connection. She has the same issue of not seeing anything under the Essbase Servers when trying to set the execution database though.
    In version 9, we were not using Shared Services for Essbase security. Unfortunately our consultant chose to set it up using Shared Services security when migrating, and according to the documentation, one cannot go back to using Native Essbase security.
    I also tried running the Externalize Users wizard and the three users with issues failed to externalize. My own id did, and the native user I created succeeded.
    Has anyone experienced an issue like this or have any ideas on how to resolve?

    Follow up - Oracle has finally resolved this. It's so simple, yet no one thought to check until now. The three users with problems all have mixed case user id's in ldap. They have always logged into EAS with all lower case ids. In version 9, on native security, this was never a problem. But in version 11 using Shared Services (not sure which factor changed it), it doesn't work. The simple solution is to log in with their exact mixed case user ids. It only took Oracle three months and the creation of a bug issue to figure this out for us.

    I have two essbase sources E1 and E2 . I am able to import data successfully into obiee through E1 datasource. When I tried to define Essbase source to BIEE with source(E2), I got the following error message when I performed 'import' action, i.e., BIEE Administration Tool > File > Import > from Multi-dimensional database:

  • Problem with Microsoft SSRS connecting to Essbase

    Hello specialists,
    I'm having an issue when i try to connect SSRS to Essbase.
    My SSRS version is 2008 R2, Essbase version is 11.1.2.1 OS version is Windows server 2008R2 and I'm running SQL server 2008 R2.
    I'm using the XMLA connector from SSRS to connect to Essbase, The message error message i get back when i preview the report is this one:
    +"An error ocurred during local report processing. cnnot read the next data row for the dataset "year". The server sent an unrecognizable response. Unable to Format XML according to declared type. Input string was not in correct format."+
    Previously I was using another Essbase instance to connect to the server and it was working alright, when i changed to the correct one, the one form the specified server the error appeared.
    When i test the connection with the new server it works alright. Here are the versions of the analytic provider services:
    11.1.2.0.0.615 - The one that's not working
    11.1.2.1.00.353 - The version that is working.
    Hope you can help me because the old machine is about to be disabled and i will have to stop my work if I don't happen to get the new connection working asap.

    On version 11.1.1.3, after reapplication of 11.1.1.3 because of other problems with shared services, get the following message on the diagnostics for the financial reporting server.

    Error: Result: -1; Error message: Cannot connect to olap service. Cannot connect to Essbase Server. Error:Essbase Error(1051293): Login fails due to invalid login credentials
    Recommended Action: Make sure external checker is working.
    Financial reports over the Web can not connect to the essbase server. Financial reports through the studio works fine. Any suggestions how to troubleshoot or resolve the issue with the login credentials for the Java API to essbase?

    1) Does the user you specified in the connection have the role OLAP_USER
    2) Does the user you specified in the connection have access to an OLAP schema (analytic workspace or CWM2 ROLAP schema)
    3) Have you installed the correct JDBC files from your database instance into the BI Beans JDBC directory

  • SmartView VBA code to connect to Essbase

    I am trying to connect to Essbase v 11.1.13 via Smartview v 11 using Macro (VBA code). Thing is that I am able to make connection, but not able to autneticate after connecting to Appname and Dbname in that server. In right hand side after this macro is run, I need to manually click on the server and then go ahead to that appname and Dbname and then do adhoc analysis.
    Any inputs how to proceed with this step using SmartView VBA code?

    Please let me know even after this code, why it is not selecting appname.dbname in Smart view Data source manager?

    In the code below there is no existing connection called “My DMDemo Basic”. So using HypCreateConnection, this connection is created which connects automatically to the application database using username and password as per the sample code.
    If the connection string already exists, then you can call HypConnect to connect.
    The HypCreateConnection does not really need a valid username and password. But when we are using HypConnect, it validates the username and password and recognizes with the friendly name per the connection name - for example "My DMDemo Basic".
    If you want the user to be prompted for login details instead o f hardcoding the values, then you can assign null values to them - username and password as null values which is - "" (note this is open and close double quotes without any space). This will bring up the window where you can give the username and password values.
    Run the following code by opening a brand new Excel file and then copying the code below into the Visual Basic Editor Module. Make sure you modify all the parameters according to your setup including username, password, server name, application name, etc.
