Can't connect to Express

I just set up a new Aiport Extreme base station. I had an old Extreme that was about five years old and had it wirelessly connected to an Aiport Express that I have connected to my stereo. I got this new Express from my son-in-law and did a factory reset on it and got it going. I have my network up and running just fine. Two laptops, iphones, an iPad and my desktop - all connected. Trouble is I can't get this new Extreme or the network, whatever the case may be, to connect to Airport Express. All l I get is a greyed out image of the Express with a yellow triangle beside it saying that my Airport Express was previously part of my network and Device is not found. It's plugged in and sitting about three feet from my computer so the 'check that it is in range' doesn not apply. The Express worked perfectly with my old base station, but this new one won't recognize it. I tried to connect it with an ethernet cable and that worked, but I can't get it to find it wirelessly like I did with my old base station. I tried doing a factory reset on it but that didn't work either. I'm stuck! Any help would be appreciated.

I found the problem. Although the Catalina Express had the Guest Network enabled it was getting its signal from another Express that for some reason did not have the Guest Network enabled. So I enabled that and everything seems fine now.

can't connect my express to my time machine base station I am in a loop and frustrated

Ok, you have an older 802.11g AX. The steps to configure it for streaming are the same for both models. Let's go over it quickly just in case something was missed.
AirPort Express Base Station (AX) - iTunes Setup
Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, make the following changes:
AirPort Utility > Select the AX > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless
Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    Network Name: <existing TC's wireless network>
Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
AirPort Utility > Select the AX > Manual Setup >Music
    Enable AirTunes (checked)
iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    Verify Password: (optional)
Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    Please post back your results.

  • Can't connect Airport Express wirelessly to network so that AirTunes and internet are available simultaneously

I can't connect Airport Express wirelessly to network so that AirTunes and internet are available simultaneously.  My old AE allowed this but can't make the new one work that way.

In your instructions, you say to use the same encryption type as the router has set up. well, I am using the WEP 64 bit encryption and the Airport Utility does not have this...it has 40 bit. Is this a problem, or do I have to be using a the same type of encrytion ?
WEP is available in either 40 or 104-bit, but is usually "advertised" as either 64- or 128-bit respectively. For example, 64-bit WEP uses a 40 bit key (also known as WEP-40), which is concatenated with a 24-bit initialization vector (IV) to form the 64-bit RC4 traffic key. So, WEP 64 on the Linksys & 40-bit is equivalent.
What concerns me more is the loss of bandwidth performance you are experiencing when connecting the AX. When the AX is configured as a wireless client it is acting just like any other wireless devices (computer, laptop, printer, etc.) and not like another router. This should cause little or no bandwidth loss. True the more secure the wireless encryption used WPA2 vs. WEP, the more overhead is required for security, but the differences you are seeing seem excessive.
It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference in the immediate area that is preventing your Linksys from providing a good clean signal.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like the following to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible:
    For Macs:
    o MacStumbler
    o iStumbler, or
    For PCs:
    o NetStumbler

1 mac mini connects wirelessly to the network.
1 Epson printer and some speakers connecting to network via express. (not using for internet at all)
All of a sudden, I can't connect to the express at all. I re-set the thing, but couldn't connect to it wirelessly. Once I ran an cable to the express, I could see and re-configure it. but the moment I take the cable off, it goes blinking amber...
The mini can print to my printer hooked up, but iTunes doens't show the remote speakers as an option any longer leading me to believe the wireless part of the express is damaged. I assume the printer works due to a wireless connection to the wp54g, which then navigates the cable to the express, and on to the printer...
any ideas? it's annoying the !@#$%^&*() out of me!

    Hi Videoman413
Try doing a factory reset, using the information at the bottom the Resetting AirPort Express article.
Then using Airport Setup Assistant join your existing network as a client, and hopefully the rest will fall into place for you!

  • Can't Connect AirPort Express to existing WPA network

I just bought an AirPort Express and I can't connect it to my existing Wireless network where I use WPA based security.
I've both tried to use the Configuration guide and done it manually with the Admin tool but it just will not connect to my Wireless network.
Less of changing form WPA-PSk to WEP128 I think I have tried "everything".
    Any ideas?

Can you changed your router to use WPA:TKIP as opposed to WPA:AES?
When I changed my router to WPA:TKIP, my airport express connected, but with AES it doesn't!
This is not good, since according to Wikipedia, AES is superior and considered part of WPA2, which Apple claim they support (and yes I am using firmware V6.3)!
    Hope this helps!

  • Can't connect to Express Guest Network

I have an Airport Time Capsule connected to my wireless network. I have a new Express (named Catalina Express) connected as well. There is a secure network and a guest network. The guest network does not require a password. The Catalina Express is located in another Building about 80 feet away. It has a very strong signal. Light is green. When in that building I can connect to the secure network but not the guest network even though the guest network also shows a strong signal.
If I use the Airport Utility, I can see that the express is set up correctly, meaning it has a guest network which doesn't require a password. Here is my network. Everything works fine except the Catalina Express.
Here is the detail on the Catalina Express:

I found the problem. Although the Catalina Express had the Guest Network enabled it was getting its signal from another Express that for some reason did not have the Guest Network enabled. So I enabled that and everything seems fine now.

  • Can't connect Airport Express to my main wireless network, just my guest account.

I go to join my Airport Express to my wireless network so I can play music from Itunes to my sound system in my living room.  That is all I want to use it for at this point.  I pull up a list of the networks available, and my guest network shows up on the list, but my main network, which all my computers and Iphone is connected to, isn't on there.  I have a Linksys E3000 with a guest account set up trhough it.  Windows 7.  I called tech support and they said something about a hidden setting.  I went and checked and couldn't find anything about this.  Also, when people come over they can access my main wireless account with my password.

Hi JWHITHAM and welcome to the forums!
Have you tried manually adding your wireless network to the iPod touch? Mine does the same too sometimes and I just add it manually. So far it works.

  • Can't connect to Express Edition 11g by sql developer

    hello,
i installed the 11g edition and try to connect to it by sql developer. it didn't work, then I noticed there was an older version (10g) on the laptop. So i removed both, and installed the 11g version, but still it doesn't work.
My laptop runs on 32-bit windows 7 so I got the 32bit installer of 11g.
I checked several other threads, but didn't found a solution.

  • Girlfriend's computer can't connect to Express network with password-help!

Hi, first post here so please be gentle with me!
I have an Airport Express router which is working fine with my MBP running Leopard. Last week, my girlfriend got a new white MacBook but this new computer is unable to join my network when it is password-protected - I just keep on getting a message saying 'connection timeout' when I try and join the network. It works fine when I remove the password protection for the network, but this is hardly ideal because my network is then completely unsecured and anyone can join (I live in a block of flats). Also, whilst password protection is in place the problematic computer cannot find the Airport Express using Airport Utility, so I would be unable to make any changes if my computer was unavailable. I would be grateful for any guidance or help to resolve these issues as I want my network secure again!
Finally, I've noticed throughout my experimentation with security settings that my internet speeds are noticably improved when my wireless network is unsecure - has anyone else noticed this, and is the problem fixable?
Many thanks in advance for any advice.

I've downloaded Air Radar and our wireless network is on a separate channel to everyone else's and is apparently mostly running OK (although at one point last night it totally went dead and I just turned everything off in frustration). I've tried to simply put everything back to how it was before the problem started by making the network open and unprotected, which (after unplugging the modem and the Airport Express overnight and starting again this morning) seems to have helped on my computer, even though the internet is running slower than it was last week when everything was fine for both computers.
However, my girlfriends computer still won't connect to the internet. Last night it appeared to be because Airport on her computer had a self-assigned IP address which prevented the computer connecting to the internet - today I have turned off the Firewall and flushed the ipfw cache and although initially I could join the network (although not access the internet) it has just dropped the connection. Network diagnostics won't help because when it scans it doesn't appear to find any networks - just keeps scanning indefinitely.
I'm getting to the point now where I'm thinking of just formatting the hard disk and reinstalling the OS and starting again, unless anyone can offer any better suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any help!

  • Can't connect airport express to airport extreme

I have the same question as Bob did about an hour ago. I'm trying to connect a sound system in another room to my computer. I have purchased airport extreme and have it hooked up. I've also gotten airport express, but I can't seem to get airport utility to recognize it. I have moved it to the same room and even  connected it to the airport extreme, but to no avail. Everytime I do a rescan it only shows my airport extreme and the airport express light continues to blink amber. What else can I try?

You want to "extend" your network. To start, configure your AirPort Extreme and, under the Wireless tab, enable the option to "Allow this network to be extended."
From my experience, the two AirPort units need to have configuration settings that are as close to each other as possible, including such things as network name, encryption type, and channel. Some things obviously need to be different. For example, you don't want both units distributing IP addresses.
You'll also want to enable the Ethernet port on the AirPort Express, otherwise you won't be able to use it to connect your MacPro.

  • Can't connect airport express to college network

I live in halls and I have an ethernet connection in my room which I want to send to my airport express and connect wirelessly on my macbook. The network is 802.1x secured, so I have to connect it each time if I've got the ethernet cable attached.
I've managed to get the airport express working as a wireless network, with airtunes, but it won't connect to the internet, I just get a 'server not found' error whenever I try to use the internet. The warning for 'no ethernet attached' has gone away, but I can't find anything else in airport utility which tells me that I'm connected to a network.
How can I get the airport express to connect properly and give me internet?

    Welcome to the discussions!
Many schools prohibit the creation of wireless networks, so you might want to check on this before you try it.
You may want to temporarily connect an ethernet cable from your computer to the AirPort Express for the configuration. After the configuration is done, connect the ethernet cable to the wall jack and the AirPort Express.
Configure your AirPort Express (AX) as follows:
Open AirPort Utility, click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons to setup your wireless network. You want to "Create a wireless network" and enter your network name, security and password.
    Then click the Internet icon
Look for the Connection Sharing setting at the bottom of the page and set this to "Off (Bridge Mode)"
Update to save changes and the AX will restart

  • Can't connect AirPort Express to Linksys WRT54GX

I tried connecting the AirPort Express wirelessly after resetting it, but was unable to because it couldn't connect to our network. We then tried connecting directly to the router to rename the Base Station, but the AirPort Admin Utility does not recognize it. Can anyone help?
If you have a response respond to this, I'd appreciate it if you would post here and also send an e-mail to [email protected] as the address on here is incorrect. Thank You.

This looks like the answer i've been looking for having spent half day trying other approaches. Agree with comment below that instructions with AE from Apple are totally inadequate but frankly, disagree with solution as this disadvantages almost every grandma/pa, non computer adapt person in the world and perpetuates the approach from manufacturers that it is our problem if their products dont work. My local Apple shop is closed on Sundays so i will probably try this solution but really, if it does not plug and play with the minimum of fuss, and if the manufacturers dont support their product then simply take it back to the shop and demend your money back. I dont even bother re-wrapping such products anymore. You can bet your bottom dollar that if every person that had searched this forum for a solution to what appears to be a common problem had simply returned the product we would not all be spending our free time trying to get products working using inadequate instructions.

  • Can't connect to express even though signal is there

I set up a new airport express and even though my wireless devices and PC  can see the signal, when I click to connect it doesn't work. I just see the spinning circle. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you for the solution to my problem.  For the record, I am using a wireless router and there is no difficulty accessing the internet using an older Satellite model computer. I tried your suggestion of going into Windows Updates, turning off the automatic update feature (Selecting "never check..") and rebooting the system.   After that, I was able to access my homepage (yahoo.com).  However when I tried to do a Google search on "How to turn on Windows Defender" and was given pages to access, the screen shfited to "This page cant' be displayed" after I clicked on one of the Microsoft based websites.    I was able to return to the yahoo page but whenever I tried doing the Google search or clicking on favorite websites, the screen immediately went to "This page can't be displayed." In addition, when I try accessing the internet and am unable to do so, I get the "This page can't be displayed" screen.  Lastly, I didn't try your solution of  "installing updates one-by-one until the network fails" as I'm not sure how to go about doing that.    I don't have strong computer troubleshooting skills which is why I had to come onto this forum.  Thank you for your patience in helping me resolve this computer mystery of why I can't access the internet.  Kind Regards, Newtringo

It's i'm trying to set it up so that I can use it as a wireless printer connection for my two macbooks, but all i end up with is the flashing amber light. I've tried a hard reset and that's clearly not solving the problem.

  • Can I connect airport express 802.11g (old version) with iphone3GS?

    Hi all,
I have an airport extreme that I set up 2 years ago. It works with my computer, using itunes (although it disconnects constantly).
I'd like to set it up with my ihpone but I don't see it in the wifi settings and I don't see it in the airport utility.
I have the latest iOS5 on an iphone 3GS and the airport extreme is not the latest 802.11n but the version before that one.
Should I be able to connect the iphone to the airport extreme to stream music for example?
    thanks for your help.

Should I be able to connect the iphone to the airport extreme to stream music for example?
Although the iPhone can connect to the wireless network, provided by the AirPort Extreme, you would still need either an AirPort Express or Apple TV (performing as an AirPlay speaker) to get the stream from the Extreme to either a set of powered speakers, audio receiver, or TV to hear it.
I haven't verified it as I don't have an 802.11g Express lying around, but AirPlay (which has evolved from AirTunes) may not be fully supported. I'm sure someone who has this model Express can chime in.
