So I solved the mystery: It has to do with facebook settings, in fact as of time of writing (Nov 2013), the setting is in Facebook, under the oddly named Apps/Older versions of Facebook for Mobile.
I had this set to "Only me", once I set it to "Public", it all worked.
In fact, after I deleted my facebook link in Mavericks' "Internet Accounts" I couldn't even reconnect until I discovered this switch on Facebook.
I appears that this is an older API for accessing Facebook, so OSX must still be using that function.
Weird that google couldn't turn up any clues.

I can't connect to Facebook. I could this morning, but suddenly I can't anymore. It tries to load, and then says "The connection has timed out".
I also can't connect with Internet Explorer. However, I can connect with Firefox, or IE from other computer (Other computer also has other internet provider).
I can connect to any other site on the web, like I am now on Mozzila support.
When I go to run, CMD, and type "ping www.facebook.com" it also says "Request timed out", and 4 packets lost. When I ping it, I get "star.c10r.facebook.com [31.13.64.65]". When I search for that IP i get "Facebook Ireland Ltd".
When I do same ping on my other computer (and other internet provider) he pings "star.c10r.facebook.com [179.60.192.3]" and pings correctly. From that other computer I also can't ping first IP (31.13...), but from first computer (on which I can't go to Facebook site) I can ping second ping (179...) correctly, but I need to type it in manually. When I just type "ping www.facebook.com" it gives me that first IP that doesn't work (31...).
Why does it happen, and why do I get different IP's when I type "ping www.facebook.com"?
Any idea how to fix it?

HELP! Can't connect on 2 or more wireless connection

I have WRT110 Linksys wireless router. I also have the latest firmware. fw 1.0.04. I have no problems connecting wired connections(2 PCs) and 1 wireless connection. However, when i tried connecting 2 or more wireless connections(3 laptops). All computers gets disconnected. I need to turn off the router again and my computers to get connected but only 2 PCs and 1 wireless laptop... Any help please! I already talked to tech support and no help! We tried to power cycle, reset for 30 secs, remove adapter, cables, etc. and didn't help! Same results! Can't connect on 2 or more wireless connections. We edited the basic wireless setting to WEP/WPA personal, band, channels, still no luck too! Im getting frustrated with this router. PLEASE HELP! I have Time Warner Road Runner cable internet. Technical informations:
PC with Windows 7 64-bit, Lightroom 5.7.1 64-bit installed.
What I have done:
I downloaded the newest LR 5.71 and installed it again - mode repair; without success
I checked my PC with Norton 360: full scanning and optimizing registry
I restarted the PC and than I installed the LR 5.7 again - repair
Trouble 1:
Two days ago I could work with my LR 5 and to import pictures from a SD was no problem. Now I can start LR 5 and I can watch/modify pictures, but as soon as I try to import new pictures LR 5 stops and gives the message "your LR 5 64-bit does not work correctly - searching for solution". I have not changed anything in my computer since lasttime LR 5 worked properly, only the registry was optimized by Norton 360.
Trouble 2:
I live in Switzerland and my language ist German. I dit not find a place where I can present my problem in German, e.g. a phone number oder email-address oder german-chat. My English is to week for a discussion for computer problems and do understand it.
Help:

My ipod touch can´t play some music any more

my ipod touch can´t play some music any more. iTunes don´t transfer it to my ipod touch but the capacity is taken. Can someone help me please?

My problem is a bit different, but I suspect not really unrelated. With very few exceptions, my entire music library on my iPod Touch is mixed up since updating to iOS 5. Albums display with incorrect album artwork, and contents of the albums is a jumbled mix of unrelated songs (could be any song from my library). And they won't play. The library is fine on my computer.
I removed all of the music from the iPod, then re-synched it with no improvement.
I also removed all apps other than those that come with the iOS, thinking it may be an incompatibility. Also no improvement.
My next attempt was going to be restoring to original settings, but it sounds like folks have tried that with no luck.
I hope Apple is reading these posts and looks into what sounds like a myriad of issues with the new iOS!

Help, my googlemaps can not use the gps any more after updated the software.

about a month ago i got a 9630 from bell
at first the googlemap works well, but a few days ago i updated the software(9630AMEA_PBr4.7.1_rel77_PL4.1.0.40_A4.7.1.40_Bell_Mobility_Inc)
since then it can't use the gps any more.
it always say "your current location is temporarily unavailable. gps temporarily unaviliable "

Go into your OPtions, then advanced options, applications and highlite google maps, menu button, edit permissions. make sure they are set to "allow". this will typically solve it. also go into your GPS settings (under options) and make sure its set to "location On".
Try these and you should be back up and running.

Facebook Messenger for Firefox isn't working on my machine. It always says it can't connect to Facebook even if I'm logged in.

Returned home only to find the same situation with my home network. Much time on chat support with Apple. Short story long: Must have been corrupted software. Had to restore original original software then add back apps and music. Couldn't back up before doing the restore so I lost a bunch of pics, but at least the phone is working once again.

99.9% of the time, the cause of this issue is the fact the phone was jailbroken/hacked to unlock it for use on networks other than the network the phone was originally locked to. Apple maintains a database of officially unlocked iPhones, and when Apple's servers detect phones such as yours, activation stops & you get the message you got.
So, either get a sim card from the carrier your phone was originally locked to, or get it officially unlocked, if you want to activate it. Because it appears that it was not officially unlocked.

[SOLVED] Can't connect to Facebook

For the past couple months, neither of my web browsers (Epiphany or Chromium) can get anywhere past the newsfeed on facebook.com. If I click on a link at the news feed, it loads for a couple of minutes, then (chromium) shows me a message:
Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): The server closed the connection without sending any data.
I've tried using a different account and purging the cache, ala https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=131070 but to no avail. Strangely enough, Facebook works perfectly fine in all of my VMs. Any ideas?

There is a lot more to Facebook slow connection problems than just seeing if you can ping them - I monitor http://downrightnow.com/facebook which tells you whether there is a general problem getting the Facebook servers to respond to login and user requests to do a whole slew of things once logged in - very frequently they have severe slowness to respond even when pinging seems fine! My guess is that their servers simply can't deal with the load a lot of the time. They are building new server farms (for example one in FInland but it won't be brought into service for another year or so at least) - so in the meantime we get periods when more users are trying to use Facebook than they can handle - but there is no-one I can find to talk to about it or any official server status page to look at!

Hmm, very cool site. I'll keep that one bookmarked. I'm pretty sure it has to do with me though: native browsers don't work but VMs do (at the same time). Also, my android device using wifi on the same network works fine.

Can't See The Wife Any More

We have an iMac 24 (Intel) with built-in iSight in our kitchen in the house. I have a G5 (no camera) in the office (same network). We're both on Tiger.
For a couple of years my wife has been able to call me up via Bonjour and I can see her in the iChat window. Just recently the connection still works for audio but I can't see her any more. She can see herself in the iChat window and I get an iChat window but mine is just a blank white space – no darling wife.
I've checked the preferences but can't see that anything has changed.

Thanks but no that didn't work. However I've established that it's 'my end' i.e. it's the G5 that's not playing ball.
I also have a MacBook Pro in the office (Leaopard) and tried a one-way-video from that machine to the G5 (after setting the preferences and re-starting iChat as you suggested) and the result is the same.
It sounds like it's going to work, I get the dull chime when I accept the Video Chat but just the same shortened white screen.
So I tried a video chat (two way) between the iMac and the MacBook Pro and that works fine. (I thought I'd also try a one-way-video chat form the iMac to the PowerBook but there's no option for this – the little devil must know the PowerBook has a camera.)
