Can't connect to Google Talk

Has anyone had any trouble connecting to Google Talk lately?  It just says connecting, but never connects.  After a few minutes I get an error message that I can't connect to the server.  If I enter an invalid user name and password it immediately returns an error message.
Any ideas?
I have a BlackBerry Storm on Telus.

Do you have your TCP/APN settings entered on your device?
Options > Advanced > TCP.
With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

  • IChat can't connect to Google Talk

I can't get iChat to connect to Google Talk. I'm using iChat 5.0.3 (Snow Leopard, 10.6.8). I have a google account, but it is not a gmail account. My jabber id is my e-mail address (because that's what my google account is). The server is set to "talk.google.com", port is 5223, "Use SSL" is on. I get the following message "iChat can't log in to talk.google.com because your login ID or password is incorrect". I know they're both correct.
If I turn on "automatically find server and port", then the status goes to "connecting..." for quite a while and then says: "the operation couldn't be completed. Operation timed out"
So, if I had to guess, I'd say that a gmail account is required and this won't work with just a google account. Has anyone ever seen it work without a gmail account?

    Hi,
The Info at Google says it has to be a Gmail account (with Talk Enabled) to use in another client.
Other type of Google Accounts can do Talk on Google but have to do it on one of their Web pages.
The confusion seems to come from the fact this used to be possible (You changed the Server name in iChat to google.com after setting up a Jabber ID)

  • Empathy fails to connect to google talk using gnome online accounts

    Hi there,
After last upgrade to gnome 3.6 empathy fails to connect to google talk using GOA credentials.
Of course I can configure a talk account directly in empathy but... I would prefer to use a single sign on (with gnome online accounts).
Does any one has this same problem?... Any clues?
    Best,
    M

    Yes...
    [miguel@miguel miguel]$ pacman -Q | grep gabble

In fact I can use Google Talk if I create an account using Menu->Accounts in empathy.

  • Ichat can't communicate with google talk account

hey there, I keep getting the following error from my ichat; "Ichat can't communicate with google talk account Gmail." Not sure why I am getting this. My ichat has worked fine in the past. Anyone have any idea what's going on? I've already gone into settings and deleted the ichat account and re-installed it. that didn't work...
    please and thank you!

    HI,
Did you change the password at Google and forget to do it in iChat ?
Is Talk still Enabled at your Google Account Settings ?
In re-adding the account you ar using the "right"  ending (@gmail.com or @googlemail.com) ?
    Try deleting com.apple.ichat.Jabber.com
You will need to do this in the Finder
    Use the Go Menu.
Hold th ALT key and select th Library
    Open Preferences
Find the .plist and Drag to Trash
    Restart iChat.

  • No A/V connection in Google talk

Google talk works great in iChat, but I can't get my A/V connections to work. Here are the specs:
I am running on Tiger 10.4.11, my buddy is on Leopard. My iChat is 3.1.9, and his is 4.0. When I send the video invitation, he accepts it but receives a communication error. When he sends me the invitation I get nothing from him on my screen. Internet sharing is off, firewalls are off...any suggestions? Thanks.

This is a GoogleTalk ID on both computers ?
And you and he can use this to Video chat to other iChat Users ?

  • Can not connect to google on Mac mini or iPad, says Ido not have a certificate. This problem started after installing latest operating system

Cannot Connect to google on iPad or Mac. Mini says I do not have a certificate. What is the problem and how can I fix it.

I have Maverick on my iMac and haven't noticed any connection or any other issues. Also, that won't have any affect on your mobile devices.
Most likely an issue with your router or isp.
Try rebooting your modem and  router (if applicable)  by unplugging it for 5-10min.
At the same time, reboot mac and both/all mobile devices by pressing and holding both the home and sleep/wake buttons at the same time until the apple logo appears on the screen.

  • IChat NOT CONNECTING with Google TALK - Newbie

    Hi
I have a huge problem with the Google Talk on iChat.
I followed every step, and nothing seems to work. These are the steps I tried...I created a new jabber account and put all the necessary information like the lD and password. For the server I put 'talk.google.com.' As for the server settings, I left the port at 5223 and left all the boxes checked and 'location' as iChat.
This is the message I keep getting...'Could not connect to host talk.google.com'
Could the problem be the port number? as I am residing in Canada, is there another port number? or could it be a problem with jabber itself...like I have to download some additional stuff for Jabber?
    Please let me know

MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    HI Andrew,
I have several Jabber accounts and have intermittent problems with all of them.
Realistically Google seems to be the worst though, either not connecting or dropping connections every now and then.
But also I am not using a Proxy to get this to work.
The Jabber side of iChat does not have any Proxy options and relies on the System settings in System Preferences > Network

  • Can't connect to Google account in Yosemite

    Hi there,
I just upgraded to OS X Yosemite, and I hoped that this problem would no longer exist, but it seems to still be an issue. I can't connect to my Google Account through the Internet Accounts pane in System Preferences. It just has that loading wheel the whole time.
It says that Messages is connected in the Internet Accounts area, but that's not the case when I open Messages... it just says "Connecting..." forever.
Any ideas for a way to fix it? My Firewall isn't on, so it's not that. And I'm able to connect to the google account on my IM+ app on my iPhone, so if it's Google being finicky, it's not consistent.
    Any help would be great.

  • Can't connect to google website

For the past few days, no matter what I do I have been unable to get on the Google website to do any searches.
I have tried Safari, Firefox, and Netscape. In Safari, it times out and on Firefox and Netscape it goes on indefinitely until I stop it.
I have tried to get on at all hours of the day with no luck. In the past, I have relied heavily on Google and have not had a problem connecting right away through my cable modem.
My sister, who lives accross the street, also has lost the ability to connect to google on her iMac. But, her laptop running Windows XP, has no trouble connecting to Google.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Hello Again G!
Please post all of the Norton programs that you have installed on your iMac.
Other than possibly NAV, Norton utilities can be extremely problematic to Macs running OS X.
In some cases even causing directory damage, that requires a complete Erase & Install of the system.
I would also recommend, un-installing all Norton products, using the instructions in one or more, of the articles linked to below.
If you feel more secure having an anti-virus utility, you could use ClamXav.

  • How can I stop message coming up at login stating "Mail can't connect to Google account Blue Yonder?

When my mac powers on, the Safari icon jumps up and down until I open it and the above message comes up. I can log in to my blue yonder account via virgin media website(my provider)  I'm not bothered if mail can't connect to it but would like to stop this as it's a bit annoying every time . Doesn't help that I'm not very techie!

  • Notes can't connect to Google Apps (not GMail!) account

    Hi,
So I did it again! Looking in the "Mail, contacts & calendars" panel in the system preferences, I noticed that my work Google App account (my work uses Google servers to host its email) was split into two accounts, which were overlapping (both had emails ticked). So I deleted one of them, it this is when the nightmare started: each time I try to tick Notes, I get the following error message:
"There was a problem setting up the account. Mail couldn't discover the account settings for the Mail server “myworkdomaim.com”.
So I deleted this account too, recreated a new account in the system pref. using GMAIL as a template. When doing so, The same error message appears, except that it takes me to Mail where I am given the possibility to enter the right settings (in that case imap.google.com as imap server). However, these changes are never reflected in the Notes app. Each time I try to tick the "Notes" box in the "Mail, contacts & calendars", I get the same error.
Of course I have tried to setup a generic account instead of a GMail one: same problem. I am taken to Mail and as soon as I input the google servers in the settings, OS X detects a GMail account and I am back to square one (or rather zero in this case).
I have spent two hours trying to hack the bloody thing, but I simply no longer can find the plist file where the accounts are stored. Thanks to sandboxing! Brilliant!
Anyone has an idea on how to get Notes on Google Apps to work? That would be a life saver!
    Cheers!

I had the same problem -- error when trying to click the notes sync checkbox in notes/accounts for my gmail accounts (GMail and Google Apps)
    What fixed it:
I noticed in my MESSAGES > PREFERENCES > ACCOUNTS I had a Jabber account in there for at least one of my Google accounts. I deleted it (don't use it).
Went back to the NOTES accounts and the checkbox worked to sync notes with all my Google accounts, GMail and Apps.
BAM! Don't know if it was just my system, but I hope this helps someone.

  • Login ID or password is incorrect for Google Talk in iMessage

    Hi all,
Maybe this question has already occured in prior discussions, however, I cannot find any solutions yet. I can login to my gmail account, can receive emails from Mail on my Mac with no problems. However, I cannot connect to google talk in iMessage where it asks me for the password over and over again. What can I change or can anybody help me out to fix that problem?
    Thank you very much.
    Immanuel

iMessage is still not connecting to Google Talk, and I dont think that Google need more than a day to fix that problem. Any other suggestions? I am 100% sure that my ID and password are correct but iMessage keeps on asking me over and over again that those information will be wrong.
    See picture below.
    Thank you

  • Google talk on my torch 9860

    Hi,
    I am unable to connect to google talk, below message pops up while attempting to connect;
"service not enabled for this handheld."

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
To use the proprietary BB services (including Push email capability, BBM, etc.), you must have an adequate data plan from your carrier. The carriers host BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) for their BB users. Typically, BIS is not available via generic data plans. Many carriers call what is necessary The Blackberry Data Plan. Whatever they call it, it is the carrier who delivers BIS to their BB users -- contact them for assistance. Once you have a BIS-capable data plan on your BB (at whatever fees your carrier will charge, btw), your BB-proprietary services will function (e.g., you will have Personal/Internet Email added to the email setup wizard, your BBM will function, etc).
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/What_do_I_need_a_Data_Plan_for%3F
With hundreds of carriers in the world, each with dozens of different data plans, it's impossible to tell you specifically what any service plan might actually provide. Only the carriers can answer that question. The best thing to do is to decide what services you desire, and then talk to your carrier about obtaining (from them) a data plan that enables what you desire.
    Good luck!

  • Google Talk w E-Series IM sans Fring or IM+?

Is anyone aware of how to use the built-in IM application on the E-series devices to connect to Google Talk? I know I can use Fring or IM+, but really prefer to use the built-in, assuming that it can be made to work.
    Thanks

Well, Nokia HAS made it that difficult. Perhaps trying to maintain the "proper" tension between carriers and subscribers? At any event, see Truphone's recently announced beta which promises to deliver EVERYTHING that the carriers can't manage to block. Including SMS over WiFi and/or 3G. Sounds good to me, but not to the carriers. Google +"Carrier of your choice" +blocks +VoIP +truphone
