home sharing works between computers on the same LAN. you can not transfer music from iPod Touch to iPad this way.
connect iPad to your computer using the USB cable that came with it and sync content to it from iTunes.

I have tried getting to my account to watch netflix on my apple tv and it says that it can not connect to the server. I have tried resetting the atv, my router and the remote and it still isnt wrorking. Anytime i try to connect to home sharing it will ask me to try again later. So frustrating!!! Please help

I was having a similar problem.  My devices weren't waking my iMac. My airport is in bridge mode connected by Ethernet to Verizon router.  My Mac was connected to my airport by Ethernet also.  With this configuration my devices would not see my iTunes libraries.  I ended up disconnecting the Ethernet between airport and Mac. Turned my Mac wifi on, connected to my wi fi network.  Now with my Mac sleeping my devices can see the iTunes library and wake the Mac when needed.
Not sure if you can use this info but there it is.

  • Apple TV 2 Can See My Library, But Can't Connect for Home Sharing

I'm really at my last rope, so hoping someone will have mercy and be able to help here.
    Symptoms:
    - Go to my Apple TV 2
    - Under the Home Sharing menu, select "Adam Nash's Library"
    Result:
    - Spinning cursor
    - Cannot connect to "Adam Nash's Library".  Please check that your computer is on and on the same network.
Internet access works for all devices, they all can do Netflix and Apple Store.  Only one network in the house.  No firewall activated on the mac.
I have multiple AppleTV units, and this has intermittently affected all of them.  Periodically, I have solved the problem by taking them on / off ethernet.
    Things I have tried:
    - Restarting iTunes on the computer
    - Turning Home Sharing on and off on AppleTV
    - Turning Home Sharing on and off on iTunes
    - Rebooting the computer
    - Resetting the AppleTV units
    - Restoring the AppleTV units
    - Forcing the AppleTV units to different IP
    - Forcing the AppleTV units to Ethernet instead of Airport (by plugging into Airport base stations directly)
    - Swapping AppleTV units to different rooms
    Nothing works.
One clue.  I have three Airport Extreme base stations in the house, and this problem begain when one of them started misbehaving (would connect, but wouldn't pass through packets.)  It's an Airport Extreme Base Station (Series 1).  The other two are Series 4 & Series 5.  I reset the misbehaving box and reconfigured it, and seems to be working fine from a networking standpoint.  But once that happened, one of the AppleTVs started showing this problem.
Is there some reason that Home Sharing is hyper sensitive to the network in some way?  It *seems* like what's happening is that it's seeing the iTunes Library (which is why it show's the Library name), but when it tries to connect, something is either encrypted differently or permissioned wrong.
Hoping someone can help me.  Frustration is at 11.

One clue: I have found a reliable way to solve the problem when it happens.
In my network, I have the main Airport Extreme (Gen 1) which is connected to my router, which distributes IP addresses to my internal subnet.  The other two AEs (one Gen 4, one Gen 5) are set to extend the network.
When I get this problem with an AppleTV 2 that can "see" my library, but when I try to open it, it says it couldn't find the library, it seems to have to do with a change in which Airport Extreme it's talking to.
If I restart the main Airport Extreme from the Airport Utility, effectively restarting the entire wireless network, then when the network resumes, every AppleTV 2 is happy again.
Unfortuntely, the problem does seem to recur - but I'm wondering if it's because temporary interference leads an AppleTV 2 to try to connect to a different AE, and somehow that's mucking with the Home Sharing.  Remember, internet access (Trailers, Store, Netflix) have no issues.  Purely Home Sharing.

  • I want to connect my ipad mini to my Apple TV. There isn't a option when I double tap on my ipad button for connecting to the tv and I also can't connect to home sharing from my iTunes settings. Can someone talk to me in simple terms. Thanks

So I have a ipad min. I want to connect it to my Apple TV. There is no option on my ipad for home sharing which my Apple TV is telling me to do.
Can somebody please just explain it to me in simple terms where I can find the home sharing and what I have to do to connect my Apple TV to the ipad or vice versa.
Everything I have bought from apple in the past month has been a complete let down its taking far to long to connect things and the people who sell the products to you lie about what the product does and can do.
    Can someone help me please
    Thanks

AirPlay isn't anything to do with homesharing. (Home sharing lets you share the iTunes libraries on computers)
Basic AirPlay: Assuming both devices are on the same network and that AirPlay is not turned off on the Apple TV, then simply tap on the screen when you are watching content you wish to stream to your Apple TV, then tap the airplay icon that appears in the control bar, choose the Apple TV from the menu that appears.
Mirroring: When displaying the content you wish to mirror on the iPad 2 (or better), iPad Mini, iPhone 4S (or better), double tap the home button (quickly) and swipe the bottom row of apps to the right to reveal the playback controls, tap the AirPlay icon and select your Apple TV from the list of available devices.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router.
    Restart your mobile device.

  • HT4557 Hi, we have just purchased Apple TV and having some problems connecting to the iPad. It is asking us to 'connect to Home Sharing in iTunes' however I can't find the link/ button to press. iPad has been updated. Any help please

    Hi,
We have just purchased Apple TV and can't connect to Home Sharing. We have wifi, the iPad is updated. I can't find the link on ITunes on the iPad that the tv is telling me to click. I've also tried turning it on via settings then music which seems to be connected. I can view YouTube clicks on the tv, but not an app so I can watch the footy. What am I doing wrong.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks

Make sure your Apple TV is on the same network as your iPad. The SSID and password of router must be set in your Apple TV.

When I go to iPod on my iPad to connect to home sharing it does not appears. Where can I find it ?

    Hi
What you need to do is enable home sharing in settings >iPod>home sharing is one of the options log on and away you go
In the iPod app it should show up in library
Remember that iTunes must be open on you computer to work
    Happy sharing

  • I can no longer activate home sharing on my Apple TV

I have an Apple TV 2nd (or 3rd) generation. It was working fine until I updated the firmware one month ago. I can no longer activate home sharing. The WIFI connection works fine as I was able to restore the device. Home sharing is active on my computer (and my iPad and iPhone). When I try to activate home sharing on Apple TV it says that the Apple ID or password are incorrect. I know it is not the case as reentered it many times and very carefully. I also rest the device many times and restored the software twice.

Bump... I have the same issue (on Ipad 4 and Itunes on Windows 7).

  • I keep getting error code 3212 when trying to connect to home sharing.. i am connected to the internet

i keep getting error code 3212 when trying to connect to home sharing.. i am connected to the internet

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Why can't i find Home Sharing on my iPhone 4?

I want to enable Home Sharing on my iPhone but it isn't listed in my phone to connect to Home Sharing. Also my iPhone is from Verizon...

Actually modular747 your right i don't have a question.  I was responding to the original poster as to why he can't find home sharing on his iphone.  And you misquote me, I did not call you lying apple employees.  Maybe you should read my posts.  But let me quote myself for you since you won't read,
"If they are liars about the iPhone 4 on their website they don't mind lying about iOS 5.  Telling a half truth is still a lie."
And I asked if wjosten was an Apple employee.  If you don't tell the truth, what are you? A liar.  If you murder someone what are you?  A murderer.  So I am just saying if Apple Inc. tells half truths then to me they are still liars.  Thats all.  I did find the link useful though. At the top of it it leads prospective users to believe this statement.
The world’s most advanced mobile operating system keeps getting better. Download the free iOS 4.3 Software Update and get new features that let you do even more with your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The software update is free. It’s easy. And you can download it right now.
Funny that even at the bottom of the page it doesn't mention a difference between AT&T or Verizon phones.

  • Keeps losing connection to Home Sharing

    Hi,
My Apple TV keeps losing it's connection to my Home sharing library! I have my iTunes account always open and sitting on my iMac which is on 24/7. I can connect to my home share even if the iMac is sleeping or my wife is logged on to the network.
My problem is when I sit down to watch a film or view photo's etc it keeps telling me that I must turn on home sharing which is on! The only thing I can do is then turn it off and then back on. All is then good.
I have not managed to see why it loses connection but I know it's not when the iMac sleeps or someone else logs onto it.
Anyone else having the same problems?

Strange, as I have two of the last generation (720p) AppleTVs.  I recently upgraded the WRT160 I spoke of in the previous post to a Linksys E2500 and have had no issues whatsoever.  I even went so far as connect my Apple TVs to the new 5ghz wireless band on the new router and it works perfectly always.  Never, ever drops connections.
I still believe your router (lacks uPnP) is to blame.  I looked around briefly and it seems the Airport Express and some older Airports don't even have support for uPnP.  One thing you can try to test my theory, is to assign a static IP to one of your Apple TVs and forward port TCP/UDP 5678 to it as a test.  My guess is that your Airport is closing this connection after a period of time causing your loss of connectivity to home sharing.
Another thought is to go to your local retailer (or Amazon, etc.) and purchase any of the E series Linksys routers. These seem to work flawlessly with Apple products and home sharing implementation.  Another plus to this angle is you will get QoS which all Apple routers lack and is increasingly important these days.  I personally have all the following connected to my Linksys and never had so much as an issue:
    (2) Apple TVs (5ghz band)
    (2) iPhones
    New iPad (5ghz band)
    3 D-Link wireless cameras
    VOIP Phone
    Hackintosh
    Macbook Air
    (2) Wireless to wired Ethernet bridges
Good luck with your issue and please post back if any of my suggestions work.

  • Losing connection to home sharing

Changed to a time capsule as WIFI and now my apple tvs keep restarting and losing connection to home sharing on my Vista machine.
The VIsta machine can "send" video to the Apple TVs, but the ATVs lose the home sharing connection, as well they keep restarting.
THis has only been going on since I changed to the Time Capsule for a network. I Changed from a Belkin as it was a slower network and with two ATVs, three macs a myrid of iPhones and iPads and the Vista server- things were getting slow!
    Any thoughts?

The TC has two different ones, and the macs use the higher speed one, the iphone etc. th lower.
The belkin was some old crap.. tossed it.
Vista is connected via ethernet cable, I've prohibited it from putting the network adapter into standby.
The apple TV2s don't restart anymore after limiting the amount of photographs in the screensaver. (I'm a photographer by trade and had given the ATV2s access to a huge amount served off the vista machine).
So I guess the question is... What is causing the VIsta machine to lose it's connection to the ATV2s and other devices running iTunes etc. with home sharing?

  • Could not connect to " home shared iTunes library name "

I'm having an issue with iTunes/ Apple TV. Actually it has been ongoing. I have a particular iTunes library shared on a private subnet (together with the Apple TVs) from a Mac Mini. I can connect and play content any time with iTunes on another computer 100% reliably. But around 60% of the time when I try to connect to it from any of my four Apple TV (2's) an error comes up saying "Could not connect to "<home shared iTunes library name>" ", "Make sure the computer is on the same network as your Apple TV. the iTunes version is up to date and iTunes is running". The answer to those questions (as always with such messages is obviously 'yes':
Yes of course we are on the same network. If I wasn't, the library wouldn't have even shown up in the first place before selecting it
Yes iTunes as always is the latest version thanks to Mac Software Update
    Again 'dah'. See response #1
If I restart the offending iTunes library the error is resolved (although sometimes it does require reboot of the Apple TV) but could reappear as early as within the next 24 hours. This issue has been occuring for a very long time however appears to be increasing in frequency. It occured as well on the Apple TV (v1).
Anyone with clues on what's going on here?
    Thanks
    Greg

I agree that the first debug point should be the network. Though like Greg, I use a Mac Mini to serve up movies to a couple of Apple TVs. From the 'problem' Apple TV, I could see other iTunes movie libraries on other Mac(s), and those would work/play fine. It's only when I try to connect to the iTunes Library of the Mac Mini that I have this issue. It's almost like it's asleep, and doesn't respond. Though I can mount the library folder, and play movies from other Macs w/o a problem while the Apple TV still has the problem.
As Greg mentions, closing and re-opening iTunes on the Mini solves the issue (though only temporarily).
The only difference that I have (non-consistency) is that my Mac Mini is an older model, and cannot be upgraded to run Lion (10.7.x) like my other Macs. The Mini is running 10.6.8, and iTunes 10.6.1 (32-bit). My Macs are running 10.7.3 and the 64-bit version of iTunes 10.6.1.
Is it possible it could be a 10.6 vs. a 10.7 issue? Greg, which version of OS X are your Macs running?

  • HT201413 Why can't I get Home Sharing to show up in my Itunes?

I have three computers authorized on my Home Sharing, but when I call up Itunes on any of the computers, Home Sharing computers do not show up.  Can someone help me.  I just got a new computer and can't seem to get my Itunes library switched over.

  • Can you still use Home Sharing?

Can you still use Home Sharing?    I have a Mac Mini (10.6.3) a Ipad (3rd Gen.) and a 3rd Gen. Apple TV.  All on the same home network and router. All three have Home Sharing turned on. All with the same account and all with the same password but they don't see each other. Since we're talking about three devices that don't see each other, I figure it must be something in the way I have it setup or Apple did away with the function.
Can anyone point me in the right direction or shed some light on this problem.
         Thanks

Well I can tell you that Apple did not do away with it because I am still using home sharing. Maybe you should go through this support article.
