Can't connect to internet...any ideas ?
Hi All,
I have an older Mac Mini that does not have airport so I was trying to figure out a way to get my Mini and a PC hooked up at the same time to a cable internet line. The cable modem is the one I used prior to my moving in with a friend who has a PC. I hooked her PC up and everything is fine. When I unpacked my mini today, I hooked it up to the wired router I bought the other day and I can neither get my Mini to connect via the router or even directly connect to the cable modem via a long ethernet cable (the PC not connected at all)....I am at a loss as to what I could be doing wrong.
Anyone have any thoughts to why my Mini won't connect now? Is there some weird block by Cox internet that would keep me from having two computers use the one line even if they are not using the line at the same time?
Thanks,
Tammy

If the PC can connect via the router, the Mini should be able to, too.
If the PC can't connect via the router, then Cox may be using so-call M.A.C. addressing (Media Access Control) to limit you to one registered device. (There are ways around this, however.)
Let us know if the PC can connect via the router to Cox.

I have factory restored my 1pad 3 loaded ios8 - wifi works, safari works but it won't connect to the app store or iTunes citing 'not connected to internet' any ideas?
Reset the iPad and try again. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Let go of the buttons, let the iPad start up.

Macbook can't connect to internet any longer
I have a Verizon router but all of a sudden I can no longer connect to the internet. Every time I try to connect to the internet it tells me the connection has timed out. I tried the Network Setup Assistant, but it tells me my password is invalid, even though I am positive it's correct. Any suggestions?
Maybe a call to Verizon? SOunds like it may be on their end

I have full bars but i can't connect to the internet. I've done all the usuall thing like reset the ipad reset my internet security but everytime it says "safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet" Any ideas?
As with previous posts this is usually a DHCP issue and occurs frequently especially with routers connected to Cable Modems or those Micro-Cell towers.
Unplug all Routers, AirPorts (or other off brand Wi-Fi broadcast units) and any other Wireless broadcast unit that might provide you with a WDS (often other AirPorts feeding off the signal of the AirPort closest to Cable/DSL Modem) and best to totally power down the Unit affected; lastly either hold a reset button on Cable/DSL modem for 30-45 seconds or actually power it down if an option (not suppose to power down Cable Modems that have Telephony for some odd never completely explained to me reason).
Let Cable/DSL Modem re-boot till 'all green lights'. Then power up each device involved in order from closest to farthest waiting each time for completion of initiation. Micro-cell towers can take 10 minutes to completely re-boot and you must wait for across the board green lights in my experience. Even WDS can add a few minutes till all green on mother AirPort unit.
Only NOW may you re-start the offending device and see if it will connect. Works about 99% of the time! -

I can see my Canon MP600 usb connected to Airport Express through Bonjour on my Windows XP. But, when installed by Bonjour, the printor time-out and can't print anything. Any idea what to do?
Thanks for the quick reply.
So am I correct in saying trying to utilise the Airport Express to access the printer over the network was a wasted effort due to the latest iOS? I had read up on the express before purchase and believed that was one of it's main purposes.
Thanks again for the help. -
5 out of 6 devices can't connect to Internet
Just to preface, this was all working hours ago.
airport express, Mac book pro, ipad, boxee box and Western digital live Nas all can't connect to internet.
my Samsung Galaxy s3 has no problems however.
normally if I can't get an ip address I would just say the Internet is down from the isp. But because I've got one device where it's working fine gives me cause to think otherwise.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. You want the device that is directly connected to the modem to furnish the PPPoE service.
This is sounding like you had your Mac connected directly to your modem at one time, so in that type of setup, the PPPoE connection on the Mac would have been correct.
But, since you have added the Time Capsule....and it is now the device that is directly connected to the modem.... the Time Capsule must be configured to provide the PPPoE connection service, not your Mac.
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click the Internet icon
Your settings should look like this:
Connect Using = PPPoE
Account Name = Your user name with your ISP
Password = Your password with the ISP
Verify Password
Service Name.....leave this area completely blank
Connection = Always On
Disconnect if Idle = Never
Update to save settings and the TC will restart
Either delete the PPPoE connection on your Mac, or if you want to retain it in case you need to connect your Mac directly to the modem at some point in the future, make that connection inactive.
If you are connecting an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the TC to your Mac, you want the Ethernet connection to be active on your Mac. This should happen automatically if the PPPoE connection is inactive or has been deleted.
Be sure to power cycle the entire network at this point. Power all devices down, or der is not important.
Wait a moment or two, then start the modem and let it urn for a moment by itself
Start the TC and wait for a green light
Then start each device one at a time until the network is back up -
Airport card working but can't connect to internet
hi all,
airport card (just plain airport card) is working and is connected to a verizon fios router. signal very strong. just can't connect to internet via safari, camino or firefox. running 10.3.9 os. i've rebooted twice to no avail.
altho, i can connect on my g4 powerbook using the same router.
why isn't the g4 flat panel imac connecting? any ideas? In the Network system preference panel, is the wireless component
selected and in the list of items in the configuration the Mac sees?
You can drag the item(s) into preferred order of use, if there is more
than one, ie: dialup modem, ethernet connection, airport base.
If both computers have a similar operating system, it may be an
idea to look carefully into each, and not change anything in the
one which appears to work correctly; to look for differences.
Does the wireless router provide support for 802.11/b as well
as wi-fi 802.11/g? The older airport card runs on the older spec. -
Adobe cloud application manager - can not connect to internet
To ADOBE - The Adode cloud Order no is DSSY006786009DT and is current
The Adobe cloud application manager - can not connect to internet even though there is internet connection and says it might be time zone error but that is correct - Sydney Australia
Question:
1. Is anybody else having this problem
2. How do we fix
I already changed the time zone east coast US - did not change anything
Could it be a corrupt program - thus requiring to reinstall program Application manager
I am using Windows 7.
It has been like it for ten days - It asks to log in everytime I turn computer on
All programs in Creative Cloud work
Any suggestions and solution
Online help and phone help had no solutions other than what I suggested - that is reload application manager
Thanks for help

just got a new ipad2...recognizes wifi network at home, but can't connect to internet...help???
I just had a similar problem. Both the ipad 1 and ipad 2 in my household quit connecting to the network even though it seemed to recognize it. if you think it is recognizing your network, just not connecting, check to see if bluetooth is turned on. i had to turn bluetooth off and then manually enter the DNS number.
My solution also came after I re-started my network and reset all the settings on the ipad2. The DNS number then showed along with IP submet Mask and router. I used that dns number to enter into ipad1 after turning bluetooth off on it.
Totally unscientific fix that may have been more coincidental than correct but you might try it. BTW--no idea how bluetooth even got turned on to begin with. -
Can't connect to internet on my old g4 flat screen, network + airport ok
I installed an airport card on the g4 (dome) and connected to our wireless network, which gets a signal, (though the status is "not available"). I can't connect to internet (server not recognized), and every time I check the internet assistant app, the setting has been changed back to modem. The router is in the basement: my iMac is on the first floor and works fine, the g4 is on the second floor. Is that too far away? Do I need to update the g4? Two minis also work fine, one on first floor and one in basement. Any help appreciated.
Which iMac G4 do you have? Some iMac G4s are 802.11b while the later ones were 802.11b/g.
If your wireless network is configured for "802.11g only", the older 802.11b iMac G4 won't be able to connect.
If your wireless network is configured for "802.11n only", the iMac G4 won't be able to connect since it isn't compatible with that. -

hi there, i installed a system update earlier on my MacBookPro and now it wont connect to wi-fi, working through Network Diagnostics hasn't solved the issue. all other devices here are connecting normally. any ideas?
Hi, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
10.4 instructions...
Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations.
If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

Unable to back up external hard drive via Time Machine. Says no room but has back ups from two previous Mac notebooks on it. Tried deleting them and now can't do anything. Any ideas?
As john noted, eventually that external is probably not going to be big enough, but it certainly is for now. The HD just needs enough capacity to cover the amount of data on your internal HD, not the internal HD's total capacity.
Format/partition the external as follows and you should be set to go:
1. Connect the external HD to the MBP.
2. Open Disk Utility on the MBP.
3. Select the external HD in the left pane.
4. Click on the Erase tab.
5. Choose the Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
NOTE: if you want to zero the HD (which I always think is a good idea, but does take time), click on Security Options, click the button for Zero Out Data, click OK. The larger the HD, the longer this will take, in some cases several hours.
6. Click on Erase and wait for the entire process to finish.
7. Click the Partition tab.
8. Click on Volume Scheme: and choose the number of partitions (just one in this situation).
9. Click on the Options button (located underneath the Volume Scheme pane) and select GUID.
10. Click Apply.
11. Quit Disk Utility.
Backup your internal to the external. What application are you using to backup with? I highly recommend both SuperDuper! and CarbonCopyCloner. -
Just hooked up my APPLE TV to my Pioneer Elite Pro 1120 HD Just hooked up my APPLE TV to my Pioneer Elite Pro 1120 HD TV (2004/05). I get picture fine (although only 720p), but I can't get sound. Any ideas? I have a Optical Digital Audio cable, but not sure where to hook up?
how is it connected?
if you use a hdmi to dvi converter then you only get picture and not audio because dvi don't carry audio same with vga
