Can't Connect To Internet on Ethernet

Hey all,
I think this happened when I upgraded to Leopard, but never checked. I can connect to my home network over airport, but not ethernet. All settings are correct, went through the diagnostics, but can't figure it out. Anyone know what's up?

Also remember that CAT 5 cable is going/went through a change. Take a look at CAT 5e or 6 cable for future networking.

  • Can't connect to Internet via ethernet

I have two brand new 11" MacBook Airs.  I can connect to the internet via ethernet on one and not the other.  I little back story...
I previously had two 13" MacBook Pros and had the same issue – one could connect to the internet via ethernet and one couldn't.  I used migration assistant when I upgraded to the new MBAs, so I believe I carried over a setting from the previous "problem" comuter to the new one.  Interestingly, both of my MacBook Pros connected to the internet via ethernet just fine until, for reasons unknown to me, one day one would no longer work.
When I look at diagnostics, the lights are (from top to bottom): green, yellow, green, red, red
Is it possible to revert some ethernet networking setting to factory?
Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

The same thing has happened to me, it just stopped working. No, I've had this problem for a long time with this machine, but the other day I was downloading some large files, and all the files dropped down to nothing, internet was gone.
It will connect to Wireless, but now I'm even having problems with that.
If I plug in the Ethernet cable but set it to use AirPort, it won't find the web. I have to unplug the cable and it will use AirPort -- not good when I need to access hard drives! It had been working with it plugged in, but it just stopped. (I don't know if it was using the Ethernet or the AirPort at the time.) I wasn't messing with any settings at the time.
Tried restarting, running diagnostics, using different browsers, various websites, didn't help.
    It's a MacBook 2,1 -- 2.0 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo -- 10.4.11
I have a G4, same OS, using the same router, same settings, everything. G4 works perfectly.

  • Can't Connect to Internet via Ethernet Cable.

    Hi
I've looked around but haven't found anyone with exactly this problem. I can't get my MacBook Pro to connect to the internet via ethernet at my dorm. I am on the same connection with the same cable on a different computer right now, so I know that is not the problem. When I plug the cable in to my MacBook Pro it tells me that the cable IS connected, but when I try to go on a site on either Safari or Firefox, it takes a couple minutes trying and then tells me that I don't have a connection. I guess the problem lies somewhere between the connection and the browser. I am using DHCP (I don't know what that means but that's the default and other posts have said to make sure that that's what one is using) and the "connect using PPPoE" box is not checked. My ip starts out 192 etc. so I assume it isn't self-assigned. I WOULD LOVE ANY HELP YOU CAN OFFER.
I just got back to school today and this is already making this semester pretty awful.

I am having the same issue. Everything was working hunky-dory but then just up and stopped. The Airport works ok, but considering I am leeching off someone else's across the hall, that is not the most reliable solution.
In my Network Diagnostics, the Ethernet connection is given a green light, but the it seems unable to find the internet at all.
I have reset the router several times, restarted my computer several times, and various combinations of the two, as well as changing ports and cables etc...
    any suggestions?

  • Satellite C655D-S5533 can't connect to internet through ethernet (wireless connection ok)

I can't get an ethernet connection thru my ISP's (Comcast) internet cable box.  I clicked the LAN icon on control panel but still can't connect.

First, reboot the Comcast box and then reboot the computer.  If it still doesn't work, look in Device Manager under Network Adapters. If the LAN adapter shown there is Atheros, reinstall using THIS driver.  If it says something else, post back.  I'm assuming you are still using Windows 7 64 bit that came with the machine.

  • Can't connect to internet by ethernet or airport

I have a valid connection to my cable modem ISP and can also see a valid connection to a wireless network through airport, but none of my applications can access the internet: Safari, Firefox, etc. I had just installed Firefox and actually had both browsers open and connected at the same time. I was downloading a dmg through Firefox and looking at a web page in Safari when the connection died for both. Did trying to use both browsers mess up some of my settings?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Last night I actually spent an hour on the phone with an Apple support tech. We tried lots of different things, including both of these suggestions. Still can't connect, though he agreed that it must not be an ISP issue but a problem somewhere in the system. He also directed me to reinstall and archive. That didn't immediately solve it either, but i'm not sure the reinstall worked properly. I'll try that again tonight.
In case that doesn't help, any other ideas?

  • Can't connect to internet with Ethernet

I can no longer connect to the Internet through wi-fi or Ethernet.
All tests I run say I am connected to the Internet. This issued just started out of the blue when trying to connect wirelessly in my office only with the iMac, my macbook has no issues.
I contacted Comcast- they ran a bunch of tests and gave me a new modem- there was nothing wrong with the connection.
I brought it into Apple, they insisted it was my Internet connection. this went back and forth between Comcast and Apple a few times.
I contacted Comcast again, had an outlet installed so I wouldn't be wireless and could connect with an Ethernet cable thinking that maybe this was interference of some sort, it worked for a few weeks and then the other day it stopped. Again, I show that I am connected but nothing happens. I plugged in the macbook with the Ethernet and I am connecting fine.
The kicker is, I can physically move my iMac out of the office into another room and can connect perfectly through wi-fi. I am stumped
    any suggestions?

Yes, if you are running 10.6.8 in an iMac purchased in 2008, it is not a PowerPC
I asked the Hosts to move it to the correct forum for you

  • Imac can't connect to internet but ethernet working

Any ideas on how to resolve this, has me baffled. In an office where all other computers can connect but for some reason this imac can't.

Is the  indicator next to Ethernet in the left Network panel breen or red?  Green should indicate it is enabled.
Did you se your IPv4 setting appropriately (probalby DHCP).
Try using alternate DNS servers such as OpenDNS (208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220) or google's DNS's (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4).  Click the Advanced button, TCP/IP, and renew your lease if you are using DHCP.  Configure IPv6 as Automatically (or off?).  Also make sure all proxies are off.
For comparison look at the Network settings for one of the machines that is working.
Finally, is this machine connected to a router that may have its own problems?

  • Mac OS X will not connect to wifi, airport is broken, will connect to internet with ethernet cord. Is there an accessory I can buy to replace airport so I don't have to use ethernet cord? Please help!!

Mac OS X will not connect to wifi, airport is broken, will connect to internet with ethernet cord. Is there an accessory I can buy to replace airport so I don't have to use ethernet cord? Please help!!

Since the MacBook Pro currently works, you should put it next to the iMac and compare the network settings for AirPort in System Preferences Network pane Advanced. Also, if you want to start off with the default network settings, you can use Location drop down menu and select +Edit Locations+. Then click the plus sign to create a new location. Set up that new location.
On System Preferences Network pane, AirPort should appear at the top of the list (in the sidebar). To change the service order, click on the gear icon and select +Set Service Order+.
Some additional tests you can try, on top of seeing if it works with (1) WEP security disabled and (2) a direct wired connection to the router.
If you get it to work with either (1) or (2), be sure to run Software Update at least two times to apply any recent updates from Apple. See if that makes any difference to using AirPort with WEP back on.
    (3) Start up in Safe Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
I don't know if any third-party software has been installed on the iMac at this point, but Safe Mode will start up with only the essential Apple extensions and processes running. See if it works any better in Safe Mode.
    (4) Create a new admin user account in System Preferences Accounts pane
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8235.html
Log out and log in to the new account. Try connecting with AirPort in the new account.
    (5) Connect the MacBook Pro to the router with a wired Ethernet connection. Make sure its Internet access works. On System Preferences Sharing pane, set it up for +Internet Sharing+ so that it is set to +Share your connection from Ethernet - To computers using AirPort+. On the iMac, try to connect to that wireless network and access the Internet.
That last one (5) may be a good one to try first. It would at least show that the iMac's AirPort is working - you can even set it up to use WEP. If you have any questions about using the +Internal Sharing+ feature, please ask.

  • 5 out of 6 devices can't connect to Internet

Just to preface,  this was all working hours ago.
airport express,  Mac book pro, ipad, boxee box and Western digital live Nas all can't connect to internet.
my Samsung Galaxy s3 has no problems however.
normally if I can't get an ip address I would just say the Internet is down from the isp. But because I've got one device where it's working fine gives me cause to think otherwise.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You want the device that is directly connected to the modem to furnish the PPPoE service.
This is sounding like you had your Mac connected directly to your modem at one time, so in that type of setup, the PPPoE connection on the Mac would have been correct.
But, since you have added the Time Capsule....and it is now the device that is directly connected to the modem.... the Time Capsule must be configured to provide the PPPoE connection service, not your Mac.
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
    Click the Internet icon
Your settings should look like this:
    Connect Using = PPPoE
Account Name = Your user name with your ISP
Password = Your password with the ISP
    Verify Password
Service Name.....leave this area completely blank
    Connection = Always On
    Disconnect if Idle = Never
Update to save settings and the TC will restart
Either delete the PPPoE connection on your Mac, or if  you want to retain it in case you need to connect your Mac directly to the modem at some point in the future, make that connection inactive.
If you are connecting an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the TC to your Mac, you want the Ethernet connection to be active on your Mac. This should happen automatically if the PPPoE connection is inactive or has been deleted.
Be sure to power cycle the entire network at this point. Power all devices down, or der is not important.
Wait a moment or two, then start the modem and let it urn for a moment by itself
Start the TC and wait for a green light
Then start each device one at a time until the network is back up

  • Can't connect to Internet after sleep mode

    Hi,
Most times after put my iBook in sleep mode and reopen it, I can't connect to Internet. I use a normal cable connection by ethernet, but at these times, when I check the network status, it says I don't have any cable connected. The modem apears to be OK, with the computer's light on. I plug off and plug in the cable and it doesn't change and it happens the same when I click in DHCP renew - it just doesn't give any IP adreess. I need to restart the computer to get the connection again.
    Ibook G3 700   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I am trying other solutions today.
It can not change to another wifi network without switch off the wifi.
That's mean I have switch off and re-open the wifi signal every time when it show like this capture.
I waiting for more than 5 mins and it will search another wifi network automatically but it still "No internet connect".
My MacBook Pro is no any WiFi issues.

  • Airport card working but can't connect to internet

    hi all,
airport card (just plain airport card) is working and is connected to a verizon fios router. signal very strong. just can't connect to internet via safari, camino or firefox. running 10.3.9 os. i've rebooted twice to no avail.
altho, i can connect on my g4 powerbook using the same router.
why isn't the g4 flat panel imac connecting? any ideas?

In the Network system preference panel, is the wireless component
selected and in the list of items in the configuration the Mac sees?
You can drag the item(s) into preferred order of use, if there is more
than one, ie: dialup modem, ethernet connection, airport base.
If both computers have a similar operating system, it may be an
idea to look carefully into each, and not change anything in the
one which appears to work correctly; to look for differences.
Does the wireless router provide support for 802.11/b as well
as wi-fi 802.11/g? The older airport card runs on the older spec.

  • Can't connect to internet via MacBook Pro to Airport Extreme

I can't connect to internet via MacBook Pro to Airport Extreme. I reset AE and modem (power down and back up again). Some computers on my home network will connect fine and others won't. The ones that won't don't populate the DNS server or the Search Domains. AE shows up on all the machines. I have one computer also connect to AE via ethernet and it has the same symptoms. Why do some Macs connect and others don't. Even when I get them to connect when I shutdown or put in sleep mode over night I lose the internet connection and have to start all over. Very frustrating.

Regrettably no replies. I have struggled with this for days with no success and I have given up on the Airport Extreme. I have found several other Forum posts with very similar problems and no one seems to have a solution to this. It seems other wireless routers work better than the Apple product. I was able to get my old Linksys wireless router reset and it is set up and working well. The Linksys router does populate the DNS servers and domains where as the AE does not. Apple engineers should look into this. If I am mistaken and there is a fix for this someone please let me know, otherwise my AE will probably appear on Ebay very soon.

  • "Connected to internet via Ethernet" ... but won't work

Looks like I have it set up correctly. Says "Connected to internet via Ethernet", yet I am getting absolutely no internet. Where have I gone wrong?
Oddly enough, it even says this when there is no ethernet cable plugged into it and is blinking amber.
    What is going on?

Assuming you have a cable or DSL modem cabled to the Airport Express ethernet port... pull power to both the modem and the Airport Express for five minutes (or up to thirty minutes if you can stand it). Then plug power into the modem and wait a minute. Then plug power into the Airport Express and wait a minute. Hopefully your connection with your ISP will now have reset, and the Airport Express will get an IP address and show a solid green status light.

  • Formated macbook and now can't connect to internet

    Hello people,
I just formated my whole macbook because the windows version I installed on it wasn't working well and was actually slowing the mac.
I remade my disk one ( only 1 partition ), installed everything, but now I can't connect anymore with my ethernet cable. I try to plug it in my normal Computer next to it and internet works. It just only doesn't work with the macbook. It's very strange because before I formated it, everything was working well.
It cannot find the IP address alone and doesn't recognize the internet.
    Anyone got an idea?
    Thank you very much!
    Chris

    Carolyn!

Thank you! Very much you saved me much time!
    Have a good day!
