Can't connect to internet through airport extreme but have full signal

I've seen a lot of posts but I still can't connect wirelessly via airport extreme.
Using a Powerbook running 10.6.4, I have updated the airport extreme's firmware and have a full signal strength, but I can't connect to the internet.
I get an error message that it can't find the server.
I can get online if I connect the internet cable directly to my computer.
so..
Airport is working
Internet is working
Wireless is not working
suggestions?

That's not possible. Do you mean "MacBook"?
I ... have a full signal strength, but I can't connect to the internet.
First try resetting your connection settings using the steps listed in this message:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10695921&start=1
They're not guaranteed to solve the problem, but they'll only take a minute or so to try.
If that doesn't help, connect to your wireless network, then open the Network panel of System Preferences. Select the AirPort connection item, click on the "Advanced" button, then on the "TCP/IP" tab. What do you see for the three values below "Configure IPv4"? Now click on the "DNS" tab. What do you see for "DNS Servers"?
Finally, type this URL in the address bar of your browser:
http://74.125.157.99/
and press "return". Does that take you to Google? If so, there's something wrong with the way your computer or router is handling DNS lookups.

  • Mac connected but PC can't connect to internet through Airport Extreme

When I was using a dial-up connection everything worked fine on both computers but since I changed to a PPPoE / Ethernet connection my PC using Windows XP can't connect to the internet although is connected to the Airport with excellent signal.
In System Preferences>Network I have Connect using PPPoE option checked so I can't see my airport in the Airport Admin Utility. Apple Talk is Inactive.
In System Preferences>Sharing>Internet: Internet sharing is Off and there's a text that it can't be turned on "because there are no ports available over which to share your connection"

I understand, but for some reason, that I'm trying to
figure out, when I uncheck the PPPoE option on my
computer and my base station appears in the Admin
utility, I loose my internet connection on the
macintosh although the Network Status says that I'm
connected to the internet via Airport...
You will need to configure the Airport to connect via PPPoE.

  • Can't connect to internet via AirPort Extreme with Laptop running Vista

I've seen a lot of posts on this topic, and maybe I'm just out of luck, but anyway...
My PC running XP can connect to the internet through the AirPort Extreme, but laptop will not. I load the AirPort Utility on the laptop. Should I be able to see the base when I run the Utility? It does not see it. I can see the wireless network with excellent strength, but all I can do.
If I can't get this to work, I'm going to just return it and to back to the wireless router. I was enticed by the ability to connect the printer and external hard drive to the base. I would like to get rid of the PC and just use my laptop for everything.

Looking over your original post again, I think I might have misunderstood you the first time. If I understand you correctly, your Vista laptop can see the wireless network and connect to it (so you have access to the Internet), but you cannot see the Airport Extreme Base Station when using Airport Utility.
If your Internet connectivity is not an issue and it's just that you can't see the base station in Airport Utility to configure it, try using an ethernet cable to connect your Vista laptop to one of the LAN ports and see if the base station shows up in Airport Utility then.

  • Can't connect to internet through Airport Express anymore

Suddenly, my PowerBook can't connect to the internet through Airport Express. Monday late afternoon--everything was fine. Put it in sleep, come back a few hours later, can't connect.
Thing is, Airport/wireless is working. Can stream audio to my home stereo.
And the DSL/modem are working. If I connect the machine via ethernet directly, I'm online.
Saw that some other users began having problems with USB/printer connections Monday. Could my problem be related?
    What gives?
    Any ideas?

Hello mnkyby. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It sounds like your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) in not getting a proper IP address from your modem.
    Try this ...
o Connect to the AX's wireless network, and then, run the AirPort Admin Utility.
o Go to the Internet tab.
o Note the value for IP address. (Note: Do not list it here on the forum, just note what it is.)
o Is the IP address what you would expect from your ISP or is it something like: 196.254.x.x?
If the latter, try the following ...
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
    o Power-off the DSL/Cable modem, AX, & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the DSL/Cable modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
o Power-off the DSL/Cable modem, AX, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
o Power-on the DSL/Cable modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)

  • Can't connect to internet through Airport network

    Previously - worked
    Internet: DSL
    Network: via Airport Extreme
    Computers: 3 (G4 Tower, PowerBook G4, Xbox360)
Setup: I ran the ethernet cable out of the modem into the Aiport Extreme. Then I ran another ethernet cable into a router which then split the signal into two lines -- one going to the tower and one going to the Xbox. The laptop connected wirelessly. This worked using DHCP assigning multiple IP addresses to all on the network and indeed the two computers surfed the net with ease and I had no problems connecting or staying on Xbox Live.
    Currently - doesn't work
    Internet: Cable (Charter)
    Network: same
    Computers: same
Problem: I recently switched from DSL to Cable internet for faster speed. Here is what i found: When i connect the ethernet cable directly into the tower from the modem i can access the internet. If i connect the ethernet cable directly into the PowerBook G4 i get nothing. If i try to connect the ethernet cable to the Airport from the modem i get nothing as well. At first all i thought i had to do was change the account settings from that of the DSL to that of the Cable internet -- only there are no account settings for the Cable internet. I literally just plugged in the cable and was ready to go. I have tried resetting my airport to get rid of my previous [DSL] settings and redoing the Airport Setup Assistant to no avail.
    G4 Tower, PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

ok so i unplugged my modem for a few minutes and then plugged the ethernet into the airport and turned the modem back on. now i can get internet on both my laptop and my tower. that works, thanks!
an odd aside tho is that before, when i was connecting through PPPoE, the laptop would automatically connect to my network (regardless of how many networks the airport card was picking up). now that i have the airport set to just connect via ethernet i have to manually log onto my network every time. is there a setting i'm forgetting about that enables automatic log in or is this just the case with connecting via ethernet?
here is the next problem, though. i bought a wireless adapter for my 360 and it cannot detect my network. it detects two other different networks that are in my complex but not mine. i have no idea if this is an airport issue or a 360 issue as powerbooks just automatically detect an airport base station. i have tried testing it in the same room as the airport with no luck. the only way i have connected to Xbox Live so far was to hard line an ethernet cable to the 360, shut the modem off, turn it back on and connect that way. if anyone knows anything about the 360 or has had similar problems trying to get their 360 up and running wirelessly through an airport please let me know

  • Can't Connect to Internet using AirPort Extreme Card and DLink Router

I have tried just about everything, but I can't seem to connect my MAC OS X 10.3.9 to the internet. I am using the Airport Extreme Card and no networks show up. I am trying to connect to my DLink router. I was told by DLink that it is compatible with AirPort Extreme cards, but the guys at Best Buy were unable to connect to their wireless routers, other than their Mac Router. Please let me know if you have a solution! Thanks

Did you install the AirPort Extreme card yourself?

  • Problems connecting to internet through airport extreme

Hi everyone I am tyring to connect to the internet. I have Charter Digital at the highest speed. When I connect directly through the cable modem using DHCP i can connect to the internet just fine, but when I use the Airport using assing multiple IP addresses i cannot get the internet. When I run diagonostics, Everything works fine up to ISP after that (internet, Server) cannot connect. I've read through the boards and found nothing, so I could really use some help. I have the CAT 5 cable from the modem going to the WAN plug in the Airport.
Thanks for any help you can give

Thank you - some of the materials linked to that may have helped isolate my problem. Unfortunately, nothing's solved it yet. Pinging the Apple IP address gives me: No route to Host, with 100% packet loss on all attempts. I'm using an Airport Express card in a 1GHz G4 eMac running OSX 10.3.9, trying to connect to a Linksys BEFCMUH4 wireless broadband gateway modem/router. As stated above, all 4 ethernet ports are functioning correctly. All initial diagnostics on my end show there's a connection. Further diagnostics and attempts to get online show a lack of a connection but don't give any detail as to where it's encountering difficulty (or, if a traceroute shows something I'm not qualified to decipher it). It's even told me it's unable to configure succesfully. I've made sure the router itself is configured so there is no password necessary (it checks for an automatically logged number from my computer) and it shouldn't be locking me out from there (I hope). I was told running Airport Express with a non-Airport wireless router would be fine, but is it possible I was misinformed? The setup procedures available to help facilitate this all assume there's an Apple AirPort to search for and don't turn up my current router when they scan, leaving me with nothing to select from in that stage of the setup, and thus I cannot proceed. Am I doomed? Are there any gracious, exceedingly capable souls out there with the time and expertise to assist me? I'll be very grateful if someone can get me past this hurdle (I need to go wireless so I can get my air conditioner installed).

I can connect to internet with my MBP through Airport Extreme, but my iOS devices can't. Please help.

GerleMan, Welcome to the discussion area!
    There are two probably causes:
Your ISP is blocking the port used by Entourage to send mail and the ISP used by the other wireless networks is not.
    OR
Your ISP doesn't like OS X's default MTU seting of 1500. If this were the case it should also affect any large file transfers you try to make from your Mac to the Internet.

  • Not connected to internet through airport xtreme (connection is ok) after upgrading iOS6

after upgrading to iOS6 none of my mobile devices (running iOS6) can go online on internet through my airport extreme. My MAC is using the same without problem.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

  • Can't connect to MacBook with Airport Extreme

I just swapped Airport Extreme base with new Airport Extreme 8012.N and now my Macbook can't connect to internet, keeps cutting out and dropping off. I have an iMac G5 connected via ethernet to Airport Extreme and Macbook in living room. It was working fine with old Airport Extreme router. I also have an Apple Express (not new 8012.N ) but it just blinks orange when plugged in. Any help would be appreciated.

You have to power down everything to start with. Make a clean slate so to speak.
I switched from an older Air Port Express to the new Extreme. Run the new software and when you power back up the new base station should show in the window. Follow the steps. It made me feel stupid the 1st time through and I had to do it again. You have to take your bent paperclip and reset.
After I got the new base station up and running I took the old Express and used it for Airtunes. At first it just blinked and wouldn't show up on the list of devices. I had to do the paperclip thing. And there it was! Green light! Follow the steps for Airtunes. Then I had to reconfigure my settings for my HP 3300 series wireless printer. That wasn't so bad, it all worked.
The machines all work well; we all just need pay close attention to the instructions.
I think that the Apple on line instructions could be a bit more clear. It all worked as it was supposed to but it was certainly a trial and error process.

  • Can't connect wireless device to airport extreme

I bought airport extreme router second hand and am connecting it to HP desktop windows 8.  All software is installed properly and router is connected.  I have a solid green light, and internet access on desktop, but cannot connect wireless devices to network (kindle, cell phone, etc.)  All wireless devices show excellent network signal strength, allow me to put the password in, but all show connected and have not internet access.

This appears to be a simple modem, so assuming that you reset the modem completely before you connected it to the AirPort Extreme, the next step would be to check to insure that the AirPort is in router mode and not bridge mode.
Open up AirPort Utility, click on the AirPort Extreme, and then click Manual Setup
Click the Internet icon at the top of the window
Click the Internet Connection tab just below that
Make sure that the setting for Connection Sharing is set to Share a public IP address
Click Update to save any changes, and give the AirPort a full minute to restart
Check the network again to see if devices can connect now.

  • Cannot get MacBook to connect to internet with Airport Extreme

Starting this in a new thread so it doesn't get lost:
I'm having a similar issue as a previous poster. I got the AEBS set up and working on my PC (running XP)--light was green, able to connect to internet. However, when I tried to connect using my MacBook it would not connect. It was telling me "ethernet not connected" and "firewire not connected". Already updated my OS to Snow Leopard. I wanted to switch from my previous wifi connection (belkin--no security code) to the AEBS, but I wound up having to switch back after trying to figure this out for SEVERAL HOURS. All the connections were correct--basically just transferred over the belkin wires to the AEBS--cable modem into the AEBS WAN port and then the other connecting cable into the ethernet ports to connect the modem to the AEBS. Tried switching the cables also--neither worked in getting the wifi connected. Tried rebooting both the cable modem and the AEBS--did not fix the wifi connection issue. I am ready to return this thing if I cannot get this figured out without wasting another 6 hours. After trying to reset everything I then wound up getting an issue where I could not connect at all even though the green light was on and the cable modem's lights were all on and I got an error code: error-6753. Again tried rebooting everything, but still had the same error code. I have unplugged the blasted thing, reset my Belkin so I can at least get back on-line and connect with the MacBook as well. Any suggestions? Not familiar with techie language.
UPDATE--just looked on the MacBook again to see how the belkin is connected. It says "airport connected", "ethernet not connected", "firewire not connected": same as when I had the AEBS set up. Airport connected was indicated with the AEBS also. Able to connect with the belkin, but not the AEBS on the MacBook. HELP

    Thanks for the clarification.
You know that you need to reset the cable modem whenever you change the device that it is connected to, correct? Push the reset button, power off the modem, (and pull the battery if it's easily accessible). The power down can be a few minutes to 30-60 depending on your provider. It's always better to leave the modem powered down longer rather than shorter if you're not sure how fast the equipment at your ISP will reset back at their offices.
You're probably tired of resetting the AirPort Extreme, but I would recommend a factory default reset to clear everything out and start fresh.
Power off the AirPort Extreme (AEBS)
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in while you plug the power back into the AEBS
Keep holding the reset button until you see the amber light blink more quickly, hold another second or two when you see this, and then release.
Connect the ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN (circle icon) port on the AEBS. I also suggest that you temporarily connect another ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports until you have the device configured.
Open AirPort Utility and click Continue to follow the guided setup. On the 3rd or 4th window, you'll be asked how you want to configure the device. Choose the "Create a wireless network" option and continue to follow the setup until you Update the AEBS. You should have a green light in 20-30 seconds.
For now, keep the ethernet cable connected from the LAN port to your computer and open your browser to check and see if you can get an internet connection. If so, then disconnect the ethernet cable and click the AirPort icon at the top of the screen to see if you can locate the name of wireless network you created and log on.
Please post back on your progress or questions.

  • Can't connect to router through airport (problem with encryption)

We have a small office network with several computers connected to a wireless router. A while back all the macs using airport suddenly were no longer able to connect to the internet (email still worked fine) while the windows computers on wireless and macs on lan still work fine.
The router is using WPA personal encryption, and when using this the macs can connect to the wireless network no problems, but then they aren't able to use the internet. as i said though email still works without any problems. We spoke to the tech support at our ISP but macs aren't very common in south africa, so they just suggest we change the encryption from WPA to WEP encryption. I tried both 64 bit and 128 bit but every time i get an error saying: There was an error joining airport network. If I turn off encryption though everything works fine and the macs are able to access the internet without any problems. Anybody have any ideas what might be wrong?

I am having the same problems since 3 days ago (Imac core 2 duo 20" 2,16). I think it was after the 10.4.10 upgrade.
I haven't tested if I can connect an open network (without encryption).
I can't connect to internet using the wifi network... sometimes, i can't even locate the SSID's network.
Even using windows xp with bootcamp i can't use the network, so it's really strange. This can only be firmware/hardware... cause XP on my mac was able to connect and now it can't too. I tried with other computers (notebook) and i can connect without problems.
Have you solved this issue ?
    Anyone can help?

  • Can't connect to Internet via Airport

I have a PPPOE ISP account. Before upgrade to Lepoard, just fine. Now I can only connect to internet using cable via my router moderm. I cannot connect my wireless router.
The wireless router will appear to be connected but it said self assigned IP. If I hardcode an IP eg. 192.168.11.2 to it. The Airport status will become connected but still cannot dial into my PPPOE account. An message no PPPOE service will appear. But if I plug in the LAN cable, everything work fine. Why this happen? My wireless router work fine with my Window XP and my Mac (before upgrade to Lepoard) What configuration should I change? I am an idot to networking. I have download all patch and has tried boot to safe mode etc.
    Anyone can help?

By power downs do you mean Sleep?
One thing that might work is to set the IP to Static in Network>Configure IPv4>DHCP with Manual Address.

  • Can't connect to internet through WRT54G

I can connect to the internet through DSL modem but cannot when going through the WRT54G.  All lights on router lit correctly.  Actually set up this router 6 months ago or so and worked both wired and wirelessly for awhile.  Then could only access internet wirelessly with laptop.  Started messing with the router to get it to work wired with desktop but now won't work.  Can access the router set-up page but not sure what to change.  Saw somewhere to change the routers IP address to 192.168.2.1  didn't solve the prblem.  Have tried restoring factory defaults, recommended power on/off sequences (modem, router,pc) and holding reset button for 30 seconds.  Also tried Easy connect tool on the Linksys site.  Icon in lower right of pc screen indicates status as connected but still cannot connect to internet.  Any help is very much appreciated.

I had the very same problem with the same model router. It turned out to be the Security setting in Internet Options. The security setting was on Medium. After changing it to Medium-Low, I could connect to the internet through the router.
If you are not familiar with changing the Security setting, let me know and I will reply with the steps to take.
