Can't connect to modem

I purchased a hp pavilion from job hifi and it worked fine with our internet, then when we changed providers it still work prperfectly but recently, I have been unable to connect with the modem. It has the best signal out of all the modems but when I click connect, it asks for the password, then if I want to look for other devices on the network, then I have the verifying and connecting for about 30 seconds then a cant connect.
I have tried heaps, from turning the computer off and on to turning the modem off and on. The modem works with all other devices and used to work with the computer I am asking about like I said before.
Please help as YouTube is a daily manor, downloading and uploading!
Thanks

Do you mean to referring to a cable modem or a wifi router instead of a modem?
Very few people on the planet use actual modems anymore.

  • WRT54GL can't connect to modem

    Hello,
My WRT54GL has been working fine for 6 month until recently. It started to drop internet connection and can't connect to the modem once in a while (like every 1-2 week). When this happens, the router's status page shows that it can't renew the IP. Physically the PC light of the modem is not lit even though the modem is connected to the router's WAN port. If I connect my PC directly to the modem the PC light lit up immediately. I also tried to connect the router's WAN port to a switch to test connectivity and the switch port light didn't light up either. Is it possible that I have a faulty WAN port?
Last night when it happened again, I tried resetting my modem and router, cloning Mac address, changing MTU to 1400 etc but no luck. The PC light of the modem just refuse to light up which indicate there is no connection between router and modem. However the strange thing is that after I leave the router off for a night, connecting it back to the modem works again.
Does anyone else has similar problem?
    Thanks Alan

Upgrade the firmware on the router to the latest version hope this will resolve your issue.!!

  • Can i connect a modem to airport express

Can i connect amodem to airport express...?

Sorry, but no adapter will make up for the fact that the AirPort Express...or any other Apple router....will not work with a USB modem.
You will need something like this:
    http://www.cradlepoint.com/
Make sure that your service is supported before you buy.

  • Can't connect with modem through e2500 router

I have an old Speedstream 5100 modem hooked to my e2500 router. Everything works well except if for some reason my modem disconnects from ISP I can not log into it through the route to reconnect it. I must plug a direct cable into modem from computer run connect script then plug modem back into router all is fine again.
Any ideas why connecting to modem through router is blocked?

My Speedstream only has one Ethernet connection so I didn't realize that it looked like a router to the local network. I changed the mode to bridge on the Speedstream and setup PPoE on e2500 and reconnected to ISP on e2500 setup screen. That may solve the problem of reconnecting since now it is managed on the e2500.
One thing I now see is since I left the modem IP set to 192.168.0.X I can't get to it at all through the e2500. Is that because my DHCP in e2500 is setup with 192.168.1.X IP range so modem isn't addressed in my network? If I hook directly to Speedstream and change IP to 192.168.1.X will it become visible on local network?
You cannot access the modem anymore while you have an active PPPoE connection. For PPPoE the E2500 won't need an IP address from the modem thus it doesn't do DHCP on the WAN port and thus it never sees it. When you try to access 192.168.0.* addresses the E2500 will route it through the PPP tunnel to the ISP.
If you hook your computer directly to the SpeedStream it should automatically pick up a DHCP address (assuming the computer is still running on DHCP and not with a static IP and the SpeedStream does not automatically disable the DHCP server in bridge mode). If you have set up a static IP on the computer you have to change the IP address to a 192.168.0.* address.

  • HP 250 G3 can not connect to modem when it returns from sleep

Hi, Ralink RT3290 Wifi adapter driver is loaded on my HP 250 G3. I can connect modem and internet. I can download and upload data from internet properly. However, if I put my PC on sleep, after waking up, PC cannot connect to modem.   At every turn, to solve this problem, I turn off and turn on wireles adapter. Then, PC can connect modem and work properly.  How can I solve this problem. Is there any problem on my wifi driver or something else? Please help me.

Thanks. How long is the delay?
I've had that on my Late 2007 MBP since Day One but the delay is usually only seconds--no more that three on a bad day.
I think its to do with waking from sleep. The standard sleep mode in the MBP is :Safe Sleep" where the computer writes the contents of RAM to the hard drove before sleeping as a safety net against the battery running dry while the computer sleeps. If the computer has to read this spot of info before completely awaking.
When I first purchased my MacBook Pro, a month ago, it would connect immediately upon waking from sleep. Now, for some unknown reason, it will not
That could be the result of now having more to write before sleep than when the computer was new because it's been in use a while and had other software added. For a test, see if the delay is reduced if you quit all open apps before sleep.
Having  DashBoard active could also be a contibutor becasue many widgets have to "phone phone" for updates and could be preempting the connection opening for regular use. I use this widget:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/dashquit_berenguierduncan.html
to shut down Dashboard without having to restart the computer. It's a carry-over from the old days of slower computers and expensive RAM but i find it still useful. This does not harm Dashboard or make if unavailable later. It 's basically the "off switch" that DashBoard should have been granted.
If, after quitting active programs and Dashboard, the delay is still more than a few seconds, then something else is at play. As the computer is new and under warranty, I would let an Apple Store look at it.

  • Airport Time Capsule 3TB can't connect to modem via ethernet

    Hi all,
Thanks in advance for any assistance on this issue ...
I am having extreme difficulty in connecting my Airport TC to my modem via ethernet.  Ideally, I want to use it to extend the range of my wifi, as well as back up my machines.
I can't get the AP TC to add on to an existing network in initial set up as , even though the option is available, the Airport Utility (6.3.2) doesn't seem to keep it selected, and wants to create a new network.
When I create the new network, my internet connection drops out, even though the modem indicates that it is connected.  I then edit the internet connection in AU by telling it to extend the existing network (add in the SSID etc) which picks up the internet connection again, but then the Airport TC drops out, and all I get is a blinking amber light and a message saying no configured Airport Base Stations detected, continuing to search.
I have no doubt that it is something I am or am not doing.  I have soft, hard and Factory reset the TC, reset the modem, changed cables, pretty much everything my tiny brain can think of.
I have looked through the support pages and follwed thier advice, with no luck.
    Help please.

I  can't get the AP TC to add on to an existing network in initial set up as , even though the option is available, the Airport Utility (6.3.2) doesn't seem to keep it selected, and wants to create a new network.
"Add" would be used for a wireless connection....and you indicate that you are using Ethernet to connect the existing modem/router and Time Capsule together....so the correct setup would be to create a new network using the exact same wireless network name and password as your existing network.
Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <--> ports on the current modem/router to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule.
Here, I am assuming that the TC will be located at least a room or two away from your main wireless router. If it is located any closer, there will likely be wireless interference issues between the two routers. The wired connection between the modem/router and Time Capsule must be maintained.
AirPort Utility will suggest a setup that looks somewhat like this.....except you will see a Time Capsule instead of an AirPort Express as illustrated below:
Network Name would be the name of your existing wireless networik
Base Station Name is a device name that you want to call your Time Capsule
Password is the wireless password of your existing wireless network
    Verify confirms that password
Click Next and the setup utility will auto configure things for you in a minute or two
When you see the message indicating Setup Complete, click Done and you should have a green light on the TC.

  • Can't connect to modem using ethernet

    I am on a power mac g5 running 10.4.11.
I just got a new modem Motorola sbg6580 & I can't log in to it via ethernet on my mac, It doesn't even see it.
I can log into it using an even older mac and a pc, but my current mac I have no luck.
I can unplug from the new modem & plug into the old modem Motorola sbg900 & it see's it fine, so it is not a bad ethernet cable or port.
I called the Motorola tech support & they are stumped too.
I also tried another new modem with the same result.
When connected to a new modem if you look under system pref, network, ethernet, it says ethernet cable unplugged.
I deleted all locations & made a new one, but still no luck.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Your Solaris 10 does not see the NIC card on your system. Use below tool to see if Solaris 10 (8/07) is capable of detecting the NIC card:
    http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/hcts/device_detect.jsp
If it's not supported, you'll most likely need to get one that's supported by Solaris 10.

  • Router can't connect but modem can

I've been using this WRT54G broadband router with linksys am300 adsl modem for a long time now until a few days ago my internet couldn't work. I tried directly pulgging to my modem, internet works. If i go through router, no internet. I tried reset router to factory default, it worked and I could surf for like 15 minutes, then it dropped again. I tried again to connect ethernet directly to modem without going through router, internet works fine. I've done reset on the router a couple of times after that, but I could not complete the steps and my internet doesn't work when I using the router. What should I do with my router??

Logon to www.linksys.com/downloads and download the firmware for the router and upgrade it .
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device: - Open
an Internet Explorer browser page.In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank & in password use admin
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on
the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' to select the
extracted/uncompressed .img or .bin file and click on "Upgrade"-Wait for few seconds ....
It shows that "Upgrade successful"  After
the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back
to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
Reset the router for few seconds ....
    Reconfigure it ....

  • HT1178 Do I want to create a new wireless network or join my current network?  I can't connect an ethernet cable to the Mac / printer and to the wireless modem at same time - in two different rooms.

I am trying to set up Time Capsule so that I can do my first backup (after 1 1/2 years!) with Time Machine.  I have read other forums, but in each case they instructions eventually do not apply.
I have connected my TC to my existing wireless router.  This sits in a bedroom and cannot be moved as a rental home.
I have plugged in the TC and updated the software.
Now - do I want to A Create a New Wireless Network (remember I can't connect the TC to Mac using an Ethernet cable). B Replace an existing base station or wireless router with TC (only intend to use for TM as don't know other benefits as of yet). or C want TC to join current network.
Thinking C.  If I choose C, it then asks A TC to wireless join current network (NO as already connected using Ethernet). B want to connect TC to my network using Ethernet to extend my existing wireless network. C want to disable the wireless network on this TC and connect it to my computer or network using Ethernet - CANNOT do this as devices can not be in the same room.
Or do I want to create new wireless network - first set of questions - choice A?  What is the benefit to creating a new one when I won't be in this rental house for longer than 18 more months??
    Please help and quickly!  Thanks!

    Let me suggest some things.
But first ask exactly what wireless router you have now and what type of broadband service?
Are you happy with the wireless on the current router? If so, then you can plug the TC straight into whatever computer you have by ethernet, short 1M cord with no connection to the network. And use it without affecting your existing network at all. This is trivial setup.
Although you don't say exactly what Mac and printer you are using, is it a desktop? Laptop it is definitely easier not to plug it in, but a desktop you can plug in the TC and it will all sit happily together.
How is the printer connected and to what?
I am not sure why you need such quick help.. this is all minor setup stuff.. and 18months in todays world is like permanent man.
Your multiple A, B, C are more confusing than helpful.
The best choices without more info.. are to replace the existing wireless router with the TC. ie your option B.. but how to do this depends on the type of connection. Is it cable or adsl? Can you easily bridge the existing modem router.. if that is what it is?
Think carefully in the ideal world what would you like..
    and what do you have..
We can probably suggest ways and means to fit what you like to what you have.. without introducing a stack of options that are doing your head in.

  • Powerbook & iBook can't connect simultaeneously with D-link 300-t modem

    Please help
After much pulling of hair I finaly got my G4 Powerbook to connect to the internet via my airport express through a d-link 300-t modem. This I achieved by changing the default ip address of the modem from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.234 and configuring the airport express manually to be 192.168.1.233.
My problem is that my son now has an iBook which he can connect to the internet through the same modem, but we can't connect at the same time. I keep getting the message " 81.178.76.171 in use by 00:11:24:24:25:7d,DHCP Server 192.168.1.234" ( modem ip). Both machines configure IPv4 using DHCP.
I don't want to configure his iBook manually if I don't have to as he doesn't live here and I don't want to muck up his settings for other places he may wish to use it.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated
    David Moore

Is the Airport Express distributing IP addresses?
    Probably no
You can set up a new location on his iBook which will not conflict or change his current settings.

  • Can't connect to internet..self assigned ip address problem with DSL Modem

I've run into this before, without resolution, and now again on a friend's iMac. Time to ask around...
Basically, everything appears to be assigned and configured perfectly, but the network status always shows, "...you have a self assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet". Sure can't connect to the net when it says that.
I've gone thru the procedure advise before that details the sequence of events needed to insure the modem resets and recognizes the Mac and it's incoming DSL (sbcglobal) signal. The order of network priority is set properly by dragging built in ethernet to the top of the list. Modem was powered down, plugged in, and then connected to the Mac, but no solution. Any ideas? thanks

This continues to be a mystery. I've had my powerbook on several networks, and connection has, most of the time, been an automatic process. Additionally, I've installed new systems for people with the same isp, and all has been well. So easy is the process, it's never been an issue. However, following explicit procedural instructions (including powering the Mac down), has proven unsuccessful on 2 different occasions.
There is little help with the isp support in India, which is where the call routes too.
The only thing I have not done is to swap out the cable at one of the locations, but the other location, which has the same issue, works fine on the iMac there. Only when I connect my Powerbook to the modem, does the "...self assigned ip address...not be able to connect to the internet" appear.
I just keep thinking there has got to be a small detail that is being overlooked.

  • Can't connect to the modem's server.

Hi guys, I have a major problem.
When ever I connect to the internet with my modem, it works. But, when I connect to internet with my router and modem, I can't connect. But I have solved my problem by resetting both, my wireless router and modem. Then after I reconfigure my wireless router all I need to do is to log into my modem's server. But I can't connect to the modem's server. I tired logging in with "admin" (being the password) but I still can't connect to it.
I am using: Verizon Broadband Network
Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Broadband Router model: WRT160N
                     Westell modem model 6100
What is the problem? Has anyone experienced this problem before?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You will not be able to log  into the modem as long as the router is plugged in
You must configure the modem first to bridge mode, then plug in the router and log into it
1.)unplug router and have only the modem in
           go to 192.168.1.1 enter
that will take you into the verizon modem/ if you have reset the modem then your user is; admin
                                                                                                                         your password is ; password
once you lopg into that it will ask you to change the username/password
just type in ADMIN in all 3 blanks
now you are logged into the modem;;;;;;go to network at the top, then network connections on the left, broadband connection ,you will then put your protocol on bridge/routed bridge,
now go to wireless settings at the top and make sure wireless is turned on
you have the option to set up a security key on basic security settings
once your modem  resets then plug in your router, you are now in bridge mode and the modems connection has moved to your router.  you must restart modem and computer for everything to take effect....
also make sure and refresh your network list on your laptop
    Hope this works

  • Can't Connect Though Router/Can through modem

Hi everybody, I was hoping y'all could help me out with my problem.
Yesterday I had a cable modem hooked up in my dorm room to my already installed TV cable. Everything was working great until I tried to install my WRT54G Router.
I can plug in my laptop directly into the cable modem and get internet fine.
I have my router set up and my computer can establish a wireless network connection to the router.
However, when I connect to the router, I don't get internet.
    Here's what I have tried:
    *Installing newest firmwire
    *Installing Easy Link
*Running CMD prompt to see if the router is working-Does work
*Checking to see if it is a DNS issue(typing in googles IP address)-Didn't work
*Installing the software on 2 laptops and 1 PC to see if it was a computer issue.
*I even returned the router to get a new one without any luck
I have installed 2 of these routers before without issue. What the heck am I doing wrong? Please help me out, thanks

Always check the router's status page on http://192.168.1.1/ to see the status of the internet connection. It will give you an error message when you try to connect and it does not work. You should check that.
Also remember that wireless routers come in a very unsecure configuration out of the box. Anyone in your proximity can connect wireless to the router and make any changes to the configuration until you change the router's configuration password and secure the wireless network with WPA.
Do any configuration through a wired connection to the router only to avoid configuring your neighbor's linksys router which he runs open.
Some ISPs remember the MAC address of the device/computer connected to them to prevent users to connect with multiple computers at a time. A clear indictation of this would be if only a single computer can use the internet connection, i.e. neither the router or any other computer could.
If this is the case, it sometimes helps to unplug the modem from the power and wait a few seconds and then plug it back in, followed by the router. Then the ISP accepts the router's MAC address on the line.
If this does not work, you could also try the MAC address clone function in the router. This is done again on http://192.168.1.1/ Search for the function on the tabs and clone the mac address of the laptop for which the internet connection works when it is directly connected to the modem. (there is a button which copies the address) Remember to save the setting. After the change you may have to connect manually on the Status page of the router.
Another reason for this kind of problem could be that your modem is not a simple modem but also a router. If the modem and the WRT both use the network 192.168.1.* you have an address conflict and it won't work. It find out about this, you could connect the laptop to the modem and verify you have an internet connection. Then open a command prompt window ("Run..." and "cmd") and enter the command "ipconfig /all". Copy the output of this command into your next post. It will show what kind of connection and modem you have...
