Welcome to Apple Discussions
Since your WiFi works...
Because your dad's iPhone can connect, he is going to be your source of information for this. It is very possible he has set up his network a certain way (like he has turned on MAC address filtering or turned DHCP off) that can make connection impossible unless there is some intervention on his part. He should be able to help you get connected.

Do other devices connect to your router?
What do you mean by distant IP address?

can't connect to my home wi-fi with new Iphone 5

When you say it doesn't detect the network - is that under "Settings->Wi-Fi"? It doesn't show your network at all?
This may sound like a stupid question but since I've learned never to leave any stone unturned - you don't have your SSID set to "hidden" do you?

  • Can't connect to my home WiFi network

I'm using a linksys router and using WEP security. The iphone can see my network, but when I enter the password it tells me I can't connect. I can't seem to make the phone forget the network so that I can start over.
    Any help would be appreciated

I have the same problem. I can't connect to any password protected networks. I type in the correct password, but I'm unable to login. I don't have the option for the iphone to forget the network, because I've never been able to log in and therefore there is nothing to forget. The option doesn't even come up. Is anyone else having this problem? It is this way for 2 different networks.

  • Why can I connect to my home network with my iPhone 5 in one room, but when I move to another it is 'unable to connect to the network'

At home, I can connect my iPhone 5 to my home wifi network with no problems, as long as I stay downstairs.
As soon as I go upstairs my phone disconnects from the network. I can still see the home network it in the available network lists (with full signal strength), but when I try to reconnect I get an 'unable to connect to the network message'
If I move back downstairs it reconnects
This has only started happening in the past week or so
I've tried to forget and rejoin the network, but this doesn't work
I reset my network settings on the phone. This worked for a couple of hours and I could connect to the wifi upstairs, but now it won't connect again.
Does anyone have any ideas what is causing this?

Sounds like your wi-fi signal strength has degraded.  Try rebooting your wi-fi router, or get it serviced.
Do you have similar issues with any other wi-fi routers?

  • Can't connect to my home network

Ever since I switched to BT I've never been able to access my home network via wifi but I can connect to btwifi with fon on my laptop.
It's never been much of an issue before but now I've started using my laptop more I would prefer to use my home network which is secure rather than a public one.
Windows will recognise there is a problem with my network but it's not been able to fix the error and it will only grant me local access to the network.
I have a 802.11g PCI adaptar in the laptop so that shouldn't be the problem. I have tried a 802.11g USB adaptar that I have for the PC on the laptop and funnily enough that will connect no problem. I don't like using the USB adaptar on the laptop too much for obvious reasons and I'm hesitant to spend more money on a new adaptar without knowing the reason my current one won't connect.
    Any ideas?

There is a known problem with Sonys. Try this
It could be that your computer has IPv6 selected. Try disconnecting it as follows:
    Select Start
In the search field type.ncpa.cpl and press enter.
In the new window right click on your wireless network connection and select properties
In “This connection uses the following items” section remove the tick beside Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) then press OK
Left click on Internet Protocol IPv4, click properties . Check the options to obtain IP addres and DNS server address automatically.
Once done try and connect to internet.

  • AirPort can't connect to my home network...

Ok, I have the new WRT300N Wireless-N Linksys router, and I set it to use something like a PS2K 2 (or whatever that network security name is called). The Desktop PC found it fine and connected perfectly after I entered in my Shared Key, however, my Powerbook G4 is seemingly not able to connect to the router. I do not think it is PS2K (again, whatever it is called) compatible. The closest thing to it is WPA and WPA 2, but they still do not allow me to connect.
The reason why I chose PSK2 is because it was highly recommended when I set up the router via Windows XP on my desktop, but it doesn't seem compatible with Mac?
    HELP.
    Cheers,
    Josh

I'll try to find out encryption, but after that step,
what do i do next? What is WPA2 connection if that is needed?
Well, if you do in fact find out it is WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) or WPA2 then your computer should join the network and automatically inquire for a password. But to configure manually, I went into System Preferences > Network > AirPort (also make sure you are in the AirPort tab) > "By default, join: Preferred networks" > click the addition sign (AKA add network) > Enter in a network name and choose which Wireless Security to use according to the router's, and enter in the correct password/passphrase.
A lot of networks use WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy), which use a passphrase to generate a password/passkey that is ten digits long or something that. Talk to your administrator or whoever operates the router to find out what that key is if you are using WEP.
The main difference between all these wireless security protocols is that one is more secure than the other. Some wireless security protocols actually decrease wireless performance, however it's almost negligible.
What I did to clear my predicament was update my AirPort version or whatever it was that needed updating. The update read that it fixed problems with joining WPA2 networks and I was like, heck, there ya go!
Hope that helps you along, I am just learning about this network stuff too!
    Cheers,
    Josh

  • Suddenly can't connect to home wireless network

All of a sudden I can't connect to my home wireless network - always has worked perfectly.  Now I get a box asking for the password, and although I type it in correctly it keeps saying "incorrect password."  I thought I'd delete it and re-establish it, but it doesn't show up in the Managed Network settings.  Any ideas what is going on?

On the problem computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and delete all instances of the printer.
Next, print a Wireless Network Test from the front of the printer (Network menu).  Note the printer's IP address.
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • 10.4.5 - mac mini can't connect to network via airport since upgrade

I've been experiencing problems since upgrading to 10.4.3. Mainly, I've noticed that I can't easily connect to our wireless home network all the time. The pattern has been that I start by shutting down my computer completely. When I start up it again, it can't connect to the network. I have to create a new profile and then it will connect. That was buggy, but at least I found a hack. However, since upgrading to 10.4.5, I can't connect to our home network at all. The Internet Connect application says that I am connected to the base station, however I can't connect to the outside world via a shell, browser or email application. Our network is secured with a WEP and the base station is a D-Link. I searched the forums for some tips, but didn't find anything. Pointers appreciated.

Be very careful about the sequence you do it. You must make sure that the airport connection is turned off (i.e. the airport menu icon looks more like a profiled eyeball without the iris than a series of lines like the towers of hanoi). Then create a new location in the Airport network preference, and make sure that these settings are there under Options
    1. Keep looking for recent networks
    2. Automatically add new networks to the preferred network list.
    3. Change the status of Enable interference robustness.
And by default, join preferred networks in the Airport location.
