Can't connect to my Mac from a PC

I need to connect PCs on our company network to folders on my iMac. I've tried everything. Nothing works. I have folders on my Mac set up for sharing. I did manage, yesterday afternoon, to connect to my Mac from my virtual PC that's on this same Mac. I did this:
net use X: \\macpeter.local\documents
The name of my Mac is "macpeter."
But, this morning, even that doesn't work. I have no idea why.
Thanks.

Hi BDAqua,
I fixed it. I just googled and googled and googled. Here's my doc, that I've saved, thank goodness.
In System Preferences on the Mac
Go to Sharing.
Check File Sharing.
Make sure, under Sharing, that you've added the network names of any users
you're allowing to connect to your Mac.
Press the "+" sign to add folders you want to share.
Under Users, give rights.
Under Sharing, click on Options
Click on "Share Files and Folders using SMB (Windows)"
Also, click on "Share Files and Folders using AFP." (That's so other Macs can see this Mac.)
Also, in System Preferences.
Go to Network.
Choose the network. Click on Advanced.
Choose WINS.
Type in the NETBIOS name of your Mac, in my case, MACPETER.
You can keep "WORKGROUP" as the name of the workgroup. In fact,
you really can't change this here at all. It'll always just keep it at "WORKGROUP."
Press OK.
Press Apply.
It's the last section that I'd never done. I needed to give the foreign Windows machines a NETBIOS name for my Mac. So, I just typed in the name of my Mac, "macpeter," and it works.
Thanks for your help!!

  • Can't connect to other Macs from MBP

I have a 2.4 SR MBP that I cannot connect to other macs in our house including an 2.0 MBP and a Mac Pro. I can see them in the shared computers but they won't connect. I have all of the computers set up the exact same way on sharing. I'm even setting it up now that all users can connect. Any thoughts?

I forgot to add that everything was previously connected via an Airport express wireless system. I just got an Airport Extreme system which hasn't changed things a bit.

  • Can't connect to my Mac from internet

I haave a G5/2.3GHz with Mac OS X 10.4.5 as well as an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS) with the latest firmware update. I am unable to access my G5 from my PowerBook while on the road. In the past, I have used Panic's Transmit with no problems. I could access the G5 via SFTP (port 22) to my IP address assigned by my cable company. This has stopped working. It may have occurred following the last firmware update to the AEBS, but I can't be sure. I have turned off the firewall to see if that was it but I stall can't access the G5. I get an error, 'Could not connect to server xx.xxx.xxx.xx. Permission denied.' What could be refusing the connection? Any ideas? Thanks.

I think I figured this out. I had to reconfigure my AEBS to forward external requests on port 22 to port 22 on my Mac's AEBS assigned IP address. Seems to work now.

  • How can i download office for mac from a disc to my macbook air?

how can i download office for mac from a disc to my macbook air?

You have four options that I know of.
    1) Use an external DVD drive that will work on the MBA. (Apple's external Superdrive for MBA)
    2) Use a remote disk connection, using another Mac with a DVD drive, and sharing the drive with the MBA.
    3) Download Office from Microsoft's website, and then use only the registration code that came with your DVD purchase to authorize the registration.
    4) Copy the contents of the Office DVD to a USB flash drive, using another computer. Then install from that flash drive.
Maybe someone else has an idea, if none of the above will woek for you.

  • Can't connect to airplay speakers from iTunes

I suddenly can't connect to airplay speakers from iTunes on my new Macbook Pro - they are visible but cannot be selected. I can connect to them from other Macs and iPads. Can anyone help, pls? I have set the whole network up several times, rebooted system ie.

I had this happen to me on the odd occasion but now have it sorted. If I'm going to use my Airport Epress(s) I first make sure that my PC is connecting to the AE before I even turn on iTunes.
A problem I was having was that my PC was connecting to my wireless router by default (specifically when my laptop was turned off) and not to the AE. As a consequence when iTunes started it greyed out the remote speakers and sometimes the button was not even showing up.
Now that I ensure my PC is talking to the AE everytime I do not have a problem.
I do have one annoying thing with the AE setup though, if I'm playing music over the AE and I unplug any USB device (printer, USB Key, External drive etc) the wireless connection is broken and I have to start iTunes. I suspect it is a hardware issue relating to my particular HP PC as I have just reformatted and reinstalled Windows XP and it still happens. I can live with it.

The Mini-DVI to DVI adapter is designed for the iMac (Intel Core Duo), MacBook, and 12-inch PowerBook G4 — allowing you to connect to an external DVI monitor. It can also be used in combination with the Apple DVI to ADC adapter to support older Apple flat panel Studio or Cinema Displays.

Composite is analogue with one connector. That is why it is called composite
Component is analogue with three connections. I think one for each color
Here is the one for component. I misread composite for component

    Hi there Rlong50,
You may want to try force closing all open apps and resetting the device as an initial troubleshooting step. Take a look at the articles below for more information.

  • How can I connect to a database from ipaq with cldc??

how can I connect to a database from ipaq with cldc??

    Hi Again
There is a library by Mimer which allows you do connect to a Mimer SQL Server, don't know must about it, but here is a link.
    http://developer.mimer.com/
If that doesn't suit you, I suspect that you will have to use some sort of proxy solution. Either by creating a servlet to accept the sql string you want to send, or by creating your own custom proxy server running J2EE. The servlet or the proxy server must be able to receive an SQL String, do the query to the actual database and return the results in some sort of format to the mobile device. Maybe just a space delimited string.
    Hope this helps
