Can't connect to Netgear router

I'm trying to connect to my Netgear wgr614 via ethernet cable so i can set it up for wireless.
I put in the ip address 192.168.1.1 in Firefox but it keeps saying
"Not Found
The requested URL /welcome.htm was not found on this server."
The router shows up in my network preferences.
What am I doing wrong?

Have you tried "www.routerlogin.com" instead? That is what the new Netgear routers use to access the settings.
It really shouldn't matter, but give it a shot.

  • Can't connect to Netgear router with WPA enabled (MBP)

I just received a Macbook pro today, everything is wonderful except wireless networking. When it first started up, it detected my wireless network, showed me the SSID, and asked for a password. I entered the password, and it failed to connect. I decided to try later and did the rest of the install.
I connected via cabled ethernet and downloaded all of the updates. For a machine that shipped from the Apple store (custom config) a few days ago, I was surprised at having 13 LARGE updates to download. Grabbed them all, including a Firmware update which required two reboots. One for everything else, and another for the firmware.
I tried again from sysprefs, and asked for the diagnostics. It asks me for my WEP key, and there is no option for WPA. I tried entered the WPA key anyway, despite only three WEP options showing up, and it still fails.
Going through the Airport 'tab' and editing the connection, I get an option for WPA Personal, Enterprise, WPA 2 Personal, and WPA2 Enterprise as well.
I tried using WPA Personal and WPA 2 Personal and entering the key which works on other notebooks, still no joy.

Which Netgear router do you have? I use the Netgear
RangeMax WPN824 and works well with WPA enabled but I
think it may have failed to work the first time.
WGT624 v2. Works fine with other wireless devices from a number of vendors, and is detected by the Mac, but I can't connect. I don't want to disable WPA if I can help it, I have a number of other systems configured for it as is, plus guests that come to visit.
but some how I had to delete the connection,
let airport find it again and re-enter the password
to get it to work. One of those things I kind of did
in the process of troubleshooting and can't remember
exactly how it was I did it
I'll try that and see if it helps. Thanks for following up.
UPDATE: Sure enough, I deleted the network and added it back in by manually specifying the SSID and password, and it works now. No idea why, but there it is... thank you very much.

  • I can't connect to the router in my home.  Things were working fine as usual - I attended school and connected to their WiFi network as usual.  When I returned home I could not connect to my own home router.  The Ipad seeks the network but nothing happens

I can't connect to the router in my home.  The Ipad seeks the network but nothing happens.  I went to school and connected to their WiFi network as usual with no problems.  When I returned home I could not connect to my home router.  The Ipad seeks the router number but nothing happens.  I rebooted the Ipad a few times in the school.  The numbers identifying the router, etc. on my Ipad no longer appear there.
TThe Ipad guide says to connect to the WiFi use setup but I can't find the setup program in the Ipad.
I reset the network settings to the factory defaults but this doesn't fix the problem.
What can I do to reconnect to my home router?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • After software Update (2006-07), airport can not connect to the router

    Hi,
I installed the software update 2006-07. Afterwards the airport extreme can not connect to the router anymore (NETGEAR). I use a WEP key, but even if I type the WEP Key, the airport does not succeed to the router anymore... I called Apple Care and they wanted that I install the firmware restoration. But even I didn't succeed to install the firmware restoration. On the firmware restoration web page (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/firmwarerestorationcd12.html) is written that I have to turn on the computer and continue holding down the power button until the LED blinks rapidly followed immediately by a successive series of blinks (3 quick blinks, 3 slow blinks, 3 quick blinks). But after the LED blinks, there is not the successive series of blinks...
I know there is 2 questions in one message, but could you please help?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    Eric

I have used "find printer" button on print screen and can see the printer to select.

I have a powermac g4 quicksilver in which I have installed a normal airport wireless card in the dedicated slot. How can I connect to my router? It is not an apple airbase station but does it need to be? How can I connect to my router?

What encryption is the Rouer using? If WPA2 you likely can't.
    Go to System Preferences
    Click Network
    Highlight AirPort and click Configure...
What shows for Routers there? Or is Join Other Network availabe in 10.3.x?

Try forgetting the network and starting over.  If that doesn't work, reset network settings.

  • HP officeJet Pro 8610 can't connect to wireless router

Just bought a HP officejet Pro 8610, switched on the wireless mode. It won't connect to my Netgear router D6200. It tries to look for the networks in the house and the software hangs. I took it back to the shop and exchanged it with a new printer. I tested it in the shop and it picked up the networks but at home it continues to do the same thing, the software just freezes.

    Hi,
Try following these steps and check if that may help:

I would also suggest disabling any anti virus or firewall software on your PC which might block the installation.
Be sure to use the latest drivers, those can be downloaded below:

  • Won't Connect To Netgear Router

    Hi There
I recently bought an iMac 2.0Ghz 17". It's a beauty. However, I can't seem to connect to the internet through my router. The router is a Netgear DG834PN. I've tried the usual things with it - such as installing all software updates and updating the firmware on the router, but no luck. In addition, my previous 1.42Ghz Mac Mini didn't work either, however, a different Mac Mini in the house does seem to connect through the router. My iMac will connect through an ADSL modem so it has been connected to the internet. The Mac Mini that does work I do not believe has the most recent software. Are there any things I might have missed to resolve my problem? It won't connect via Ethernet or Airport, it simply doesn't recognise the network. I've tried adding the Mac Address to the router configuration as well as removing and putting back on Encryption. No luck. Help is greatly needed!
    Thanks

    Hi Jack Shepherd!
There was a post in another thread recently where a new owner during initial setup activated the wrong radio button in answer to the question "How do you connect to the Internet?" Was thereafter incapable of manually setting up a connection. Had success with the following:
If you open the Network panel of System Preferences, click on the "Assist me.." button followed by the blue "Assistant..." button, you'll open the Network Setup Assistant which will redo that initial setup and give you a second or third opportunity to make the proper selection for that question. Give it a chance and let us know how it works.
Forget the "Diagnostics..." button at this point, as that's an attempt to "edit" your way out of the mess, and it appears that what might be needed is a fresh start. Best of luck:)

  • How can I access my Netgear Router with my iPhone?

I just set up a Netgear router for my home network and my iPhone recognizes my network, but won't let me in to type in my password so I can attach the device to the network.
    Can you help?

I would recommend logging in from a PC or using an included software utility (like Linksys provides) to add the phone that way.
Why not just have the iPhone connect to the network and then type in the WEP/WPA password?

  • Can't get a netgear router to network my macs

I just switched from DSL to Cable and had to buy a router for the cable modem.  I can't get it to configure with my Mac Pro.  It worked with my Macbook Pro after some fiddeling.  It's a Netgear gigabit router.  My Mac's normally just hook up to the networks.
    Thanks
    Dan

Netgear makes it a snap to setup the first time and configure.
    I also switched to cable.
the Netgear router should not make a difference, all my cable ISP wants is the modem's MAC, nothing else.
the booklet that came wtih the Netgear should tell you what to use, something like
    http://www.routerlogin.net/basicsettings
you might want to post the model name / google / go to Netgear knowledge base page
My reason for the switch, my DSL ISP no longer supported Netgear ADSL modems NOR would they support a system connected to their service that was running Windows 8 (unsupported of all things) so off to cable I went. Weird to say the least.
I have 2-3 Netgear routers, too, and went with the model that seems to provide now the best wifi signal strength.

  • Can't connect to Netgear DG834N any more

I got myself a new Netgear DG834N router yesterday and when I set it up, everything was working just fine. Both my MacBook Pro and the Windows PC on the network happily connected over a wireless connection.
At some point today, something went bad with the MacBook Pro. Just not visibly or at any identifable time.
I can no longer connect to the router wirelessly when security of any sort is set up on the router. Each time I try, I end up with a 169.254.x.x IP address. The machine connects to the router, and can see the SSID broadcast, but is unable to receive an IP address from the DHCP server. If I unsecure the router, everything works just fine.
I've tried rebooting the router and the notebook. I've dropped and restarted the interface on the Airport NIC. All to no avail.
I think maybe I need to clear the MacBook Pro of any trace of the network profile and come back and redo the whole thing.
Can anyone advise how I might achieve this, or whether they have encountered similar issues before, and what the solution might be?

Have you tried looking for a firmware update on Netgears website ??

I had one of those models...you know where it is now ??? In the bin !!! Seriously ! I had so many issue with it that I binned it ! It completely locked up, I couldnt connect to it and it drove me insane.
I went back to a regular Netgear. Alls well with that !!

  • Can't connect to netgear wifi with macbook pro

I have a Netgear N900 router and although I can find the signal I cannot connect to the wifi.  Each time I clicked on it, it would fail to connect and say to move closer to the router.  However the router has already been upgraded to make the signal strong enough to reach my room.  I have tried restarting the router and it has not worked.  I have gone into the router through my browser and reserved an IP address and changed my network settings on my computer to "using DHCP with manual address" and entered the reserved IP address.  I restarted my computer but now my macbook pro says that it is connected but I can't connect to the internet when i open a browser.  I'm not sure if I'm not reserving the IP address correctly or if there is another solution to this problem.  If anyone has encountered this problem and found a solution that would be amazing.  I have been trying for a month now to fix this. Thanks!
