Can't connect to network........ can't see in Airport Utility

I have read this forum for about 30 minutes now and do see that there are other problems similar to mine. I am very frustrated because I've tried all the stuff I've read, but it feels like the Aiport Express is dead in the water.
I looked at it in Airport Utility yesterday and it wanted to do a firmware upgrade.......so I did that. It went fine. I have a g network and an n network with two Airport Extremes (new ones). I had the Express on the g network....but I wanted to switch it to the n network to see if I could extend it a little farther to the other side of the house. Well.....I did that.....and it tried to restart, but never came back. Now all I get is the flashing amber light which I read that it means the Express can't connect to a network. I tried the factory restart where you hold the reset button down and it will flash 4 times green. That never happens. It does seem to restart after the rapid amber flash, but goes right back to the amber 1 flash per second thing. I've tried the different techniques on restarting and nothing works. It just goes right back to flashing amber. I am at the end. I don't really know what else to do with the thing. I would like to do a factory restart and just start over, but it won't do it. If anyone has any other suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. I thought about taking it to the Apple store to see what they say, but I don't want to get caught up in the iPhone release madness that will be for a while.
Thanks ...........

hi Jamey,
After you've reset the Airport Express to factory defaults have you tried to configure it wirelessly? Just disconnecting from your Airport Extreme and connecting to the Airport Express and setting up as a Wireless Client to your Extreme?

  • Airport extreme slow blinking amber light.  Can't see through airport utility.

Unsuccesful trying to reset.  On a hard reset, it still goes from steady amber to slow blinking amber.  Never get a rapid blinking amber light.  Have tried to connect directly to it via ethernet and airport utility doesn't see it.  Any help?

I have this same issue. Internet works, I can connect to it, but i doesn't show in the Airport Utility. Also, it doesn't let me connect to other computers or my AirDIsk. I am using 10.5. Unplug and plugin style reset fixes it...for a while. Any ideas anyone?

  • Can not see my Airport in the list of Wifi networks and is blinking organge all the time

Can not see my airport on the list of WiFi networks and is blinking orange all the time. Tried to reset several times.

Do you have a Mac or idevice for setting up the Express? It does require a later utility than is available for windows.
You might be able to setup with the v5 utility in windows but there is no guarantee.
You should use a simple name both for the base and the wireless. eg AEXgen2 base name and AEXwifi for wireless name.. that is if you get access.

  • Mbp can't see my airport !

I've been using my mbp with AExtreme n for 6 months without any problems. Since 2 weeks, sometimes when I boot my mbp, it can't see the airport. I haven't changed or moved anything ! Strangely, my mbp can see other wifi networks and my colleagues have no problem seeing my airport. I have to reboot my computer at least 5 times so that it sees the airport again.
    Any ideas why ?

    Try the following:
    1. Delete Preferred Network(s)
    - System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
    - In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
    - Delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list
    2. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
    - Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
    - Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    - Restart, or log out then back in.
    3. Add Preferred Network(s)
    - System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
    - In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
    - Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
    - Restart or log out then back in.

  • Updated my iTunes and now my mac can not see my airport express no matter what I have tried

recently updated my itunes and the firmware on my airport extreme and suddenly itunes does not recognize my airport express for speakers and my mac through airport utilities can not see my airport express. *** I have tried everything and nothing will bring the airport express back to life what to do

  • Why can't my Lion airport utility find any of my routers?

I recently installed Lion on my 2008 MBP. Now the new airport utility cannot find any of my routers. However, my G5 leopard imac can still see my airport express and airport extreme routers. All I see on my MBP is a globe with an orange circle and the word 'Internet' below it. I also see an endlessly spinning wheel at the bottom. Any ideas? I'm connected to the network wirelessly and I have an internet connection. So, I don't understand why airport utility cannot see any of the routers.
    Thanks,
    Henry

Thanks, that did the trick. I didn't realize they had a different airport version for the older airport hardware....

  • Why can't the newest Airport utility program find my Aiport Express 1st generation? Anybody have an idea?

Why can't the newest Airport utility program find my Aiport Express 1st generation? Anybody have an idea?

    Windows XP SP3, Vista SP2, 7 SP1 use......AirPort Utility 5.5.3 for Windows - Support - Apple

  • Is there a manual I can PRINT for the Airport Utility Software Version 5.5.3 for Windows?

Is there a manual I can print for the Airport Utility Software Version 5.5.3 for Windows?
If there is, I can't seem to find it anywhere (in the Software, by using Google, etc).

I dont' believe there were manuals out there for different versions of the utility. That would be quite a few different manuals.
There are different manuals for the different base stations however...

  • HT4259 KB article is out of date--how do you "allow this network to be extended" on AirPort Utility 6.x?

The current KB article about extending wireless networks is out of date--how do you "allow this network to be extended" on AirPort Utility 6.x? These instructions describe v. 5.x.

In my case, the option was required, so the problem was that it wasn't available. When I used v6.2 to extend the network on the secondary AP Express, it gave an error saying the network couldn't be extended.
Once I booted Snow Leopard from an external drive, I was able to follow the instructions in HT4259 with v5. Once I checked the "allow this network to be extended" on the primary AP Express, the secondary AP Express started extending the network as it should.
While v5 of the AirPort Utility is available for download, it won't work on Mountain Lion, so this solution wouldn't work for most people, who don't keep old operating systems lying around.

  • Network works fine but Airport Utility can't see the Airport

If someone knows of an earlier discussion on this I'd be grateful for a pointer. My Airport Extreme network has been working fine, syncing with Apple TV, accessing the Internet, etc, but The AirPort Utility can't find it! I discovered this when I had trouble printing and started up the Utility to see if there was something I could do to fix it. The utility can't find it but the network is working fine. However I do need to connect a printer to it.
Any advise on what I can do?

I know this may sound obvious and silly, but are you actually connected to your Airport wireless network and not a neighbouring network?
I thought of that myself and there are at least four networks around my house (three unprotected!) but no, I am connected to the AirPort network!
I'll try one other thing before I do a hard reset though. A week or two back I'd tried to connect an Airport Express manually by creating a WDS. Never got that to work and that may be a problem. I notice that if I do a soft reset the AirPort Extreme become visible in the Utility for a few minutes. I'll go th manual setup and see if I can't delete that WDS...

  • Itunes can't see the Airport Express that I'm connecting to... Wierd

I have my AE set up as a WAP on an ethernet system. I have iTunes over ethernet selected, but now my wireless box can't see the AE even though I'm sending this note over the AE. Does selecting iTunes over ethernet disable the iTunes over wireless?
The AE is connected to a router, so it is not distributing IP addresses.
I guess that I should also mention that it's preventing me from seeing other machines on the network and sharing my library.
    Help??

Unless you've explicitly disabled "Distribute IP addresses" using Airport Admin Utility, your Express is set up as a router and is distributing IP addresses, which is consistent with the fact that you can't see the other machines.

  • Can't see shared Airport USB Drive on Network

I have a AirPort Extreme (5th Generation) with a USB drive attached. I am using OS 10.9.2 on my desktop and laptop. I can see the drive on my desktop Mac which has a ethernet connection to the Airport, but my laptop can't see the shared drive. I used Airport Utility (under "Disk" Tab) to Enable file sharing and share disks over WAN. I have set the "Secure Shared Disks" to "With a disk Password."  On the laptop, I have set Finder preferences to see "External disks."
However, the disk does not show up on the Finder sidebar under "Devices" or "Shared."
Any suggestions on how I can make this "Shared Drive" visible?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Also make sure that Finder Preferences is set to show Connected Servers on the desktop.
Restart the entire network as well by powering everything off, waiting a minute, then starting the modem first, followed by the next device connected to the modem, etc until everything is powered back up.

  • I can't see my airport express on wired network.

My airport express works like a charm, at least on every wireless device I have. My wired windows computer though refuses to auto detect him. I can ping to the device, configure it through airport utility when i give up the ip adress manual. It's such a strange problem anyone has already experienced the same? I already tried disabling my firewall and stuff but since i can ping i can assume the path to the device is free right?

Did you solve this? I have exactly the same problem.
Airport Utility cannot automatically detect my Airport Express from my wired PC.
The AE light is solid green. It is in client mode / joined to my existing network. I can see/stream to the Airport Express from my wireless laptop but not from my wired PC. My PC (connected to a Belkin wireless modem/router via ethernet cable) can successfully ping the AE and access it via Airport Utility when entering the IP address manually (via File / Configure Other...).

  • Can't see new AirPort Express on a wired-only network.

After checking up http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108064-en I decided to buy an AirPort Express and to hook it to my wired-only home network. I have connected the AEX to one of the Ethernet ports on the router and plugged it in, the light is solid green.
The AirPort Utility says that it is "unable to find any AirPort base station".
Using Configure Other... in the File menu, I tried the IP address 192.168.0.12 with the password "public" I get Error -6753.
The address should be the right one because a) I can ping it b) There are only 2 computers on the network and the have addresses 192.168.0.10 and 192.168.0.11 and c) I have limited the address range to 192.168.0.10 to 192.168.0.109 when setting DHCP in the router.
    Thanks for your help.

Ubacs, Welcome to the discussion area!
Have you tried doing hard or factory default reset of the AirPort Express (AX)?

  • Time Capsules solid amber, can't connect or see with airport utility

Yesterday, my internet (both wired and wireless on different computers) suddenly went down. My network could not be found. This happened 2-3 times with outages of about 5-10 minutes each. Later, it went down and hasn't come back up since. I have two TIme Capsules on the same network and both simultaneously went solid amber. Additionally, plugging my MBP into the primary time capsule via ethernet does not reveal the TC in airport utility. My internet is fine as I can connect to my modem via ethernet just fine. This is what I have tried...
    - deleting the system config folder
    - unplugging time capsules
    - restarting my computers (currently 6 macs on the network).
Not sure if this matters, but my computer that is connected wired normally, was just updated to Snow Leopard. I haven't updated the others yet.
Please help! I can't get my work done without this. Thanks

Hello okiska. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
under system preferences is says "airport is connected to the network", and Airport utility says "your apple wireless device does not have a valid IP address".
What these are telling you is that your MacBook Pro is connecting to the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS), but the AEBS is not "communicating" with the modem.
I suggest a complete power recycle of your network components to get things working again.
Try the following, in order, checking for Internet access after each step, until resolved:
    1. If the modem has a reset switch, use it to reset the modem. Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the modem to initialize.
    2. Remove power from the modem. If it has a backup battery, remove this as well. Wait 5-10 minutes. Replace the battery, and add power back to the modem.
    3. Perform a complete power recycle of your network components as follows:
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
    o Power-off the modem, AEBS, & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
o Power-off the modem, AEBS, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    4. Contact your ISP to have them perform a "modem reset."
