Can't connect to printer on another machine

I have a Canon printer attached to my iMac running 10.5.7 and could always wirelessly print on it from my old iMac running 10.4.11. It has worked fine for many months but recently it stopped printing. I tried adding the printer again and it found the printer OK (location: my-iMac) but when printing it says it can't find/connect to my-iMac.lan . It can find the printer to add, and I can log into the other machine OK ( and vice verse) so there is no connection problem with the WiFi.
I also have a MacBook running 10.5.7 which still prints OK but gives the location as my-iMac.local
Is this a bug introduced with a system upgrade?
Do I need to find a way to change .lan to .local?
Anyone have any suggestions of how to fix it?

Yes, running on an admin account.
Safe Boot didn't seem to work. Tried it twice but it just hung on the logo screen with the dial spinning below. So I booted up normally and ran the disk utility to repair permissions.
Removed the printer from the list and readded it freshly. It finds the printer on the host machine, but it still is coming up with .lan on the host name rather than .local and so when trying to print it fails to find the host machine.
Any other ideas?

I have recently changed my internet provider and have tried to reinstall the printer software but it wont find the printer and says that i need a usb cable which i dont have. Can i connect the printer without one? Its a photosmart all-in-one c4380 printer.

Have no idea, no model number of printer. You can always buy a USB Printer cable.

"Can't connect to a current Time Machine back up disk"

OS X Yosemite, version 10.10.1
Macbook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)
Processor 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5

Computer is supposed to seamlessly back up to Time Capsule via wi-fi, but ever since upgrading to Yosemite it's been broken. "can't connect to a current Time Machine back up disk" is the message that pops up, just after it shows me the files on my Time Machine for a split second. So it sees them, for a moment, then it pops up the message and freezes my computer. I have to do a hard reboot. I tried the instructions here: OS X Yosemite: If Time Machine can’t find your backup disk, and various instructions I've found on the internet regarding fixes from deleting plist files to whatever.
This is very annoying, I'd like to fix the problem. And also vent, this *****, this isn't why I purchase Apple products, it's a known problem and they aren't publishing a fix. Apple isn't very elegant anymore, it's cumbersome, troublesome, and I'm wondering why I'm spending the extra when those were the benefits I was paying for.

Don't upgrade next time until the following version is out.. I updated not long ago to Mountain Lion.. and it works very nicely. Apple is playing MS game.. don't fix the problems.. just release a new fangled OS. So issues that have existed over Mavericks and all its updates are still there and in fact exacerbated in Yosemite.
To fix your issue.. You may need to do some major work.. did you upgrade or clean install Yosemite??
I guess it is too much to ask if you still have your previous OS install intact?? Making a bootable clone before updating is a necessity now IMHO.
TM does not really allow you to go back to the previous OS.. but you can clean install Mavericks or whatever you used and then recover your files.
To fix Yosemite a clean install can be a big help. Especially as wireless is a major flaw.
Do you own the thunderbolt to ethernet adapter? It is like $35 and a well worthwhile gadget to own.. since I think your mac has no ethernet port.
See if it works ok by ethernet.
Otherwise factory reset the TC and try mounting it manually in finder by IP address, not name.
ie in Finder use Go, Connect to server and type in the IP.. thusly
SMB://10.0.1.1 (replace with actual IP)
It is a bit tricky if the IP is not static.. but start there and see what happens.
Remember to save the password to the TC in the keychain when asked.

Can't connect to DFS shares from machines not part of the domain

I'm not sure if this is by design, but we can't connect to DFS shares from machines that are not joined to the domain. We can't even map a drive using credentials of a domain account.
Is that how DFS is supposed to work?

Clients that belong to a workgroup can only access the DFS namespace if the name resolution mechanism that is in place can locally resolve the domain name

I created an application on a machine with Labview 6.01, can I run this application on another machine that has labview 5?

In the development center we use Labview 6.01, in the testcenter we use labview 5.
Additionally, in the development center we use a unix version of Labview and in the testcenter a Windows version.

You can Save with Option to save VIs as version 5.
Unless your VIs deal with system files in UNIX or Windows (ie. Registry...)
then you have to develop your VI specificly on that OS, since UNIX and
Windows have different ways to deal with system files. Mostly, LabVIEW is OS
independent. I used to have VIs developed from LabVIEW v.3 on UNIX, I can
still open these files from LV v.4 on Windows. Now I can still work with
these VIs on LV 6 on Windows.

in your error message:
javax.servlet.ServletException: Server configuration denies access to data source
The server being referred to is the mysql server. Mysql has uid and password like all db's, but in addition, it has security that is sensitive to the source of the connection. Just because you have a valid uid and password doesn't mean that you will be able to connect from anywhere.
This data is in the user table of the mysql database, which is included by default in every mysql installation. What you need to do is edit the privileges of the user account that you're using to connect to mysql from the jsp. There is some good documetation on user administration here:

Can't connect any printer to Mountain Lion!

I have some problems connecting and using my HP1006 printer with my new Macbook Pro. I've bought it a month ago, it is 15' MacBookPro with retina, Lion 10.7 was preinstaled on it. My HP worked with my mac like a charm. Lately I upgraded to Mountain Lion and after that I can not connetct my printer at all! MB simply can not see and even detect it. . I've already checked my cabel with another computer - it works. My usb are also ok, my camera and flash cards detects perfectly.
I've tried everything:
- I instaled new drivers from apple, (from 8 August) but this didnt help.
- I renewed disk permissions
- I even tried to connect another new printer from the store.
Please advise how can I solve this problem

In certain cases, automatic discovery does not work. In this case you will need to type in the IP address of the printer. I can't connect or print wireless

I have the hp photosmart c4780 and I used the USB wire to connect it to my computer after installing the software off the internet as I lost the software it originally came with. So with that being said, on my little Eee asus netbook windows 7 I can print with the printer when it's connected via USB only! Also I use my printer mainly for printing coupons or documents, and if anyone's familiar with <a href="http://www.coupons.com" target="_blank">www.coupons.com</a> then you'll know they have an app for most all tablets and smart phones and so I downloaded it on both my ipad 2nd generation and my iPad mini, and I was able to print coupons wirelessly via the coupons app only, not via the <a href="http://www.coupons.com" target="_blank">www.coupons.com</a> through my safari browser. So I'm just not sure why I can't get it to connect wirelessly, when I went through the installation and set up process I went through the option of switching to wireless rather than USB and I thought it went smoothly but any other way I try to print from my computers or iPads it will say that the printer isn't discovered. THE MAC ADDRESS FOR YOUR PRINTER CAN BE FOUND ON THIS TEST REPORT.***" And I can see below on the print out where my MAC address is, however this isn't helpful because I don't know what MAC address filtering means nor if it's bad or good, or how I can change it accordingly. And in the diagnostics summary below it says NO FILTERING: FAIL I'm unsure as to what that means? So if anyone can help me I'd so greatly appreciate it, I also tried to find that claim code that I was supposed to be able to find when i do the print out on my printer and I can't see it on the test report or the configuration page. So, so far I've just reset the printer itself to default settings. And from here...well...as you can see.. I NEED HELP!?!? Please and thank you!

Welcome to the HP Support Forums. I think that the root issue you are experiencing is the printer is not connected to your wireless network, and as a result you are running into several issues.
wikiHow’s How to Find the MAC Address of Your Computer has a nice and non-techie description of what a MAC address is and how to find it. By turning on the MAC filtering for your router, is a way of telling your router that only the devices with an approved MAC address will be allowed to connect to your network.
Most customers with home wireless networks don’t use this feature, as it can take more time to maintain than a person would like to give. It requires that you add/maintain the MAC address of any device that will be connecting your to network, including, but not limited to, iPads, tablets, Smartphones, iPhones, computers, laptops, etc.
Please start by turning the router off. If your router doesn’t have an on/off switch, please disconnect the power cord. After waiting a full 60 seconds please turn the power back on (or plug the power cord back in). Hopefully the network test report will give us a pass on No Filtering.
If MAC filtering is turned on (I suspect it is on) and you don’t want to use this feature, please contact the manufacturer of your router on how to turn this off. I do think this is the root of your connectivity issues.
Once you have confirmed that MAC filtering is off we should be able to get everything working wirelessly by following the information below.
Let’s start with your Windows 7 laptop. I’ve included the How Do I Find the Best Windows 7 or Windows 8 Driver for My Printer? document. It will walk you through downloading HP’s Printer Install Wizard. This will also help you connect the printer to your wireless network while ensuring you have the right driver for your printer.
Once you’re printing from your laptop wirelessly, please try test printing something from the notes app on your iPad. If your router supports Bonjour, the communication method for Apple’s AirPrint feature, you should have no problems printing. If you are unsure, I have included a post by Shirlzz1 that will walk you through downloading an app to check.
As for printing from coupons.com using the Safari browser on your iPad it comes down that the iPad is considered a mobile device requiring the app as an interface.
I think I’ve addressed everything that is plaguing you. If I haven’t please let me know. In addition, if anything goes askew while doing the above, please let me know at which step things went wonky and the contents of any error messages and where they were displayed.

Can't connect to printer through Router - Help!

Brand new to Mac & getting frustrated. I have a SMC router with a Pixma ip6600D connected to the usb port on the router. I can connect to the internet without a problem and the printer works fine if I plug it directly into the MacBook. However I cannot get the Mac to find it via wireless. I downloaded the Gimp drivers (there is no ip6600D on the list). Apple has no clue, Canon was no help, and neither was SMC. I have spent over 12 hours on the phone with various Tech support folks with no answers. Nobody can suggest a work around or even whether or not a new router will solve the issue. By the way, my laptop PC and desktop PC's work fine interfacing with the router and printer. So much for the "I'm a Mac and I'm as PC" commercials being accurate! Help, anybody!!! Thanks.

If the printer setup utility in OS X can't find it automatically, do a manual setup by clicking the + symbol in the printer preferences window, then click the IP option at the top of the panel. You can then enter the printer's network IP address and other information manually.

Can't connect a printer to Mac OS 10.4.10

I swapped over computers from my iMac flat panel (OSX Tiger) to a G4 digital audio running Tiger 10.4.10. I am having trouble connecting a printer. I have 2 printers a Laserjet 4100n and a HP PSC 1402 MFC. Both these printer worked fine on the iMac but when I installed GIMP 5.1.3 and the drivers for the 1402 Print centre found the printers but came up with this error messege:
An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer:
server-error-service-unavailable
Does anyone know what this means? I've tried the HP forums and the Apple forums as well.

I'm having exactly the same problem since more than 4 months !
One day, all my printers disappaered from my printers list, and when I try to add them again, I get the message : "server-error-service-unavailable".
All the printers are network printers, so the connections are already Ethernet connections.
I tried resetting the printing system, but it still doesn't work.
In the "share" preferences, I'm not able to check the "Printers share" box, nore in the firewall settings... The boxes just don't want me to check them ! I'v got no prooblem with the other options, only with those concerning printers share... Can that be the reason why I can't add any printer ?

EA6500 can't connect to Router after Time Machine

Just got an EA6500 - updated to the latest available firmware.
I've attached 2 x WD NAS and 1 x WD via USB to the unit.
Everytime AFTER I finished running Time Machine on the MacBookPro (writing to one of the WD NAS), I can no longer login to the router neither from the local IP address nor the cisco cloud connect. The error message that I get (loosely phrased) is: can't connect to Router. Please ensure the router is connected to the internet.
At this point, all the devices connected to the router (both wired and wireless) still can access the Internet perfectly. Only the router console is no longer reachable.
Anyone else are having the issue?
Any ideas on how to resolve it?

Contacted Cisco support and the person advised me to do a factory reset (eventhough the router is brand new with no customization!!). Regardless, it now works properly. Cisco Cloud Connect still works before, during and after a Time Machine session.

I can't execute my forms from another machine

After a lot tears, blood and sweat, eventually I achieve to install successfully an IAS (server).
I probe it and realize that I can execute forms in the Navigator wich is in the IAS Server, but I can't execute it from another machine.
I now that the web server is Ok because I can see the main page of the web server (runform.htm) but since I introduce the name of the forms it can't find the page.
?What am I doing wrong?

If the IP address approach is working and the machine name is not, it may be that you need to have your machine added to your DNS server. The DNS server does the linking of your machine name to a IP address known by the server. If it is defined on the server, then make sure the machine you are trying to access the form from has that DNS server defined in its Network set-up.
