Can't connect to server error message

I've recently moved to a new MacBook Pro and used the migration assistent to move my data.
Since the move I've been getting this error regularly:
The old MacBook was called TomD.  I've used Console to see what's going on around the time of the message.  This is the most common output:
4/7/13 7:21:21.180 AM SyncServer[7632]: [0x7fc3f3c0be50] |DataManager|Warning| Client com.apple.Mail sync alert tool path /Volumes/Macintosh HD does not exist.
I've tracked down a number of locations of com.apple.Mail (using Find Any File... nice app) and poked around to see if there was a plist or other preferences looking thing that could be modified.  Pretty much the limit of my knowledge there, didn't find anything useful.
Went through Sunc Server's plists and again, didn't find anything that stood out.
This notification box comes up frequently and is a real annoyance.  Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I suppose as Mountain Lion can save a Backup in two places at the same time it is possible it looking for the Drive that was involved.
However my experience on that front is that Time Machine gives you a pop up message to tell that it can't find something.
It could be the sync items are nothing to do with the Path message that happens to be in the middle.
However a closer look reveals the hexidecimal number seems to link all of them.
I have seen files that belong to another Account on another Mac imported into an existing account.
This tends to leave the files belonging to the original Mac User Account and they often need changing Ownership and Permission to the New Mac User Account.
This can effect the Contacts App (Formerly Address Book), Mail when some is stored on the Mac, and some apps that have access to the Contacts list.
Of course if a Mobile Device is plugged in and would normally sync including things like the mail accounts, then it is possible everything stems from there.
I would open System Preferences > Time Machine and double check which disk or drive it is trying to do a Back up on.
I would also look in System Preferences > User and Groups and see in your Account whether the Login Items list lists a server that should be connected.

  • Safari and Chrome "can't connect to webpage" error message

I recently purchased this macbook on the 26th and it was working completely fine the first day. Today i was using my macbook and it was working completely fine, then about 20-30 minutes after turning on and using my macbook webpages failed to load. In safari I would refresh the page and the page would stop loading at about 40%, and when i tried doing using the search bar instead of the URL bar, i would recieve a "Can't connect to server error" saying that safari was unable to connect to Google. On Chrome i tried opening the same page, such as twitter or youtube, and the page would fail to load as well and it would give me the "unable to connect to webpage" error message. Anything connected to the internet won't load as well, such as the app store or even skype. Whenever i restart the computer it begins working fine again, but returns to its previous state after 20-30 mins again. I have tried restarting my router and even connecting to a different router. I have also checked my proxies and nothing is selected. I am just wondering what to do at this moment, should i take my computer in so soon? Or should I give the computer some time to get "broken in."? My macbook is running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4

  • I frequently get the "Firefox can't find the server" error message.

I frequently get the "Firefox can't find the server" error message. Refreshing the page normally causes the page to load, although sometimes it takes more than one try.
I have checked my connection settings. IPv6 and DNS prefetching are disabled, as recommended by this article: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox%20cannot%20load%20websites%20but%20other%20programs%20can?s=Firefox+can%27t+find+the+server+at&r=1&as=s

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • "Can't connect to server" Error

I'm using a 24" iMac running 10.6.7 and I keep getting a "can't connect to server" error with Safari for certain websites. While I could have posted this topic under the Safari section, the problem is not Safari. I tested other web browsers on my iMac (Firefox and IE) and still got an error. I did all the trouble shooting like: empty cache, reset safari, cookies, proxies, /index.html. Now, I was thinking it could be my router, but I am able to access those websites through my iPhone and my iPhone is connected to my wireless router. So I figured the problem is with my iMac settings.

    Hi Opti1CS,
    Welcome to the forums!
Have you tried a clear the DNS cache?
I found that I switch networks allot; witch leans my DNS cache rather jumbled up. After having to reset the DNS cache for the 10th time in a week. I ended up stumbling over DNS flusher. I find it easer then memorizing a terminal command.

  • Webex Connect "An unknown error ocurred connecting the server" Error Message

    Hi,
We have the latest Cisco Webex Connect Clients (7.1.1 Build 16597) in use in our company. With no obvious reason one of our employees now can't connect to Webex Connect getting the Error Message "An unknown error ocurred while connecting to the server." We tried to close and re open the client and to re-enter the password, both with no succes. Using another Jabber/XMPP capable IM Client works but not using Cisco Webex Connect.
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers,
    Patrick

You may face this issue if your IE is working in offline mode.
    To resolve:
Try going to google.com on internet explorer.
    Click on connect when prompted.
Once google.com opens fine then try logging in to the WebEx Connect again.
    It should work now.

When i press the apps icon on the printer,  an error message pops up that says it cannot connect to the server.  other than this the printer works fine.  it prints from my phone and computer, just cant get the apps function to work.

    Hi,
I understand that you are not able to access apps. In order to access to App, printer needs to have access to the internet.

  • Software Update can't connect to server -- error

I have Tiger 10.4.7 on a 600mH white G3 dual USB iBook. When I try to use the SoftwareUpdate function off the Apple Menu to check for any updates to Tiger, the "checking for new software" window starts up all right but immediately the error message window appears with "Software Update can't connect to the update server."
I'm otherwise connected to the internet all right and everything is working. I tried trashing the com.apple.softwareupdate.plist file from the Library/Preferences and the user/Library/Preference/ and restarting, but this didn't do it either.
I've had this problem before and it has "become" fixed, but I don't know exactly what sequence does it. Any help, please?

No, I didn't try creating a new user, in part because once before doing that only made things more complicated and didn't solve any problems.
Software Update simply started working again. No idea why.
However, even after several days, Safari is still reporting that it cannot connect to the server for any URL put in. I've restarted Safari, reset Safari, manually emptied all caches, removed cookies. All very odd!
    Firefox is working just fine.

Ok, the fire has been put out. Our dba just rebooted the server Disco was running on and it seemed to fix the problem. We still don't know why it happened, so if anyone recognizes that error, I wouldn't mind a heads-up on why it occured in the 1st place if you know.

  • Problem connecting to Server error message... a lot

    Hi all,
Im running the latest version of Yosemite (Macbook Pro 2009) and I'm having some strange issue.
I used to have a NAS on my network but at the moment it isn't connected. This wouldn't normally be a problem with the exception that it causes me 2 issues that are really quite annoying
First issue is Google Chrome seems to now take 5 mins or so to load...I believe this and the second issue are actually connected
Second issue, I now get the following error message about 5 times which I have to "OK' before it finally dissapears and let me get on with my life.
"There was a problem connecting to the server...(name)
The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time, check the server name or IP and try again...OK"
Anyone got any ideas why this is happening and how I can stop it?
    Thanks in advance.

There are many possible causes for this issue, and it may be very hard to resolve without wiping your account clean of everything except documents as a last resort. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
If you get the alert in the login screen before you log in, stop here and ask for instructions.
    Step 1
If you get the alert as soon as you log in, it's probably caused by one of your login items or by software that otherwise loads at startup or login. Ask if you need help identifying it. Known offenders are "1Password" and "Adobe Resource Synchronizer."
    Step 2
If there's an icon representing the server in the sidebar of a Finder window, hold down the command key and drag it out.
    Step 3
In the Finder, press the key combination command-K or select
              Go ▹ Go to Server...
from the menu bar. In the upper right corner of the window that opens is a Recent Servers popup menu represented by a clock icon. From that menu, select
              Clear Recent Servers…
    and confirm. Test.
    Step 4
Open the Printers & Scanners pane in System Preferences and delete any network devices you no longer use. If in doubt, delete them all and add back the ones you want.
    Step 5
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing  command-C:
    ~/Library/PDF Services
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. A folder may open. If it does, move the contents to the Desktop, or to a new folder on the Desktop. Log out and log back in. Test. If there's no change, put the items you moved back where they were and continue.
    Step 6
    Open the folder
    ~/Library/Preferences
as in Step 5 and move the file named "loginwindow.plist" items in that folder to the Trash, if it exists (it may not.)
Log out and back in again, and test.
    Step 7
Other possible causes are references in the iPhoto, iTunes, or iMovie library pointing to the server, bookmarks in the Preview application, and PDF files created by Adobe Acrobat with embedded scripts.
Try rebuilding the iPhoto library, if applicable.
    Step 8
Resources such as images or sounds stored on the server may have been added to various applications. Examples would be pictures added to Contacts and custom sounds added to Mail. The range of possibilites here is practically infinite, so I can't be more specific. You might get a hint by launching the Console application and looking for error messages that appear at the same time as the alerts.
    Step 9
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to start up. Start up in safe mode. Test. After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Step 10
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/Directory Utility.app
Rght-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
              Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* The application Directory Utility will open.
In the Directory Utility window, select the Directory Editor tool in the toolbar. Select Mounts from the Viewing menu in the toolbar, and/Local/Default from the node menu, if not already selected. On the right is a list of names and values. By default, the list is empty. If it's not empty, post a screenshot of the window and stop here.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.
    Step 11
Open the following file as you did in the last step:
    /etc/auto_master
It will open in a TextEdit window. The contents should be exactly this:
    # Automounter master map
    +auto_master          # Use directory service
    /net               -hosts          -nobrowse,hidefromfinder,nosuid
    /home               auto_home     -nobrowse,hidefromfinder
    /Network/Servers     -fstab
    /-               -static
If there are any other lines in the window, post them. Otherwise, close the window.

  • Safari can't connect to server with parental controls on

I have one user with admin rights and one user plus guest with parental controls turned on. Recently when parental controls are turned on, I get 'safari can't connect to server' error. When I turn parental controls off again I can connect to the internet again. Why is this?

    Hi and welcome....
Unfortunately, Parental Controls can only be enabled on a non admin account.
See if there's a proxy set up for Safari. From the Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Advanced tab. Click "Change Settings" next to: Proxies.
That will launch System Preferences / Network - Proxies.
If there are any boxes checked under: Select a protocol to configure, deselect the box then click Ok.
Quit Safari (Command + Q) then relaunch Safari.
See if Safari can connect in a parental controlled user account.
