Can't connect to servers in enemy-territory

Hi, i installed et and i can't connect to servers, when i search for servers i see only 20 servers and if i try to connect
it just stucks at "Awaiting gamestat"

One big clue is that Safari uses DNS & Proxy settings from the Network CP/System settings, while Firefox uses it's own settings.
Might try making a new Admin User to try as a test.
Searching for which file(s) hold those at the moment, though right now I'd try dragging these files to the Desktop & reboot, resetup Networking...
/Users/nnnn/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconnect.plist
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
And, since it's a secure connection, might look for some of these files...
~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.networkConnect.<ethernet MAC address>.plist
Looks like the Proxies are stored in...
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
But that doesn't ensure that it's the only place on your machine.

  • Mail can't connect to servers, but every other program can

I've seen a lot of posts about problems with Mail where the Connection Doctor says there is a connection to the server. I suddenly can't connect to any of the servers that download to Mail (so it is unlikely that I went in and changed all of the settings), but I can connect to the internet with every other program, and can check my .mac mail online.
The problem started WHILE Mail was open. I checked mail at 8.30 and it was fine; at 9.00 I was no longer able to send or receive mail.

    Suzanne,
Can you still send, is it only receiving that is stymied?
In System Preferences/Advanced/Proxies has anything gotten selected?

  • Went 10.3.9 to 10.4.8 & now MacOS won't connect to Servers using afp! HELP!

I did an upgrade installation of Mac OS 10.4.3 ontop of Mac OS 10.3.9 on a G4 AlBook. I then did the downloadable combo updater to take it 10.4.8.
However now when I try to connect to any servers using Go - > Connect to Server I get no response.
When I try to navigate to the Servers using the Finder and click connect I am told that the alias is broken.
I thought his might have had to do with an installation of Netware for Mac OSX so I used the Netware install file to step through and remove all Netware files & I stil can't connect to Servers.
Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.
I have yet to run any of the software updates on top of 10.4.8 perhaps one of these improves 10.4.8 afp compatibility?
    Thanks in advance,
    Neil.

    James,
thanks very much for this. I'd hoped not to have to go to 10.4.9 but it sounds as though your solution may well work with 10.4.8 as well? I.e. it sounds as though a component of the old system left behind by the incremental upgrade has broken the servers.
I should have also mentioned that it is Netware boxes that I am trying to access. so it appears as though all manner of server is broken in this situation.
This is so inconvenient (esp with regard to software authorised to hardrives, how does that behave with an archival install?).
But once again many thanks for your help,
    Neil.

  • [Solved] Enemy Territory Punk Buster kicking me from servers

Has anyone tried playing ET in pb enabled servers recently?  I just tried a fresh install from AUR and it seems that I keep getting kicked with the message:
    Server Disconnected - Punkbuster kicked
player 'jb' (for 2 minutes) ...
    violation (GAME INTEGRITY) #20004
running et-pbupdate didn't seem to correct the problem, nor did going in as root to /opt/enemy-territory/pb and running pbweb.x86 from there, then from my local pb directory as me.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Cool, that seemed to do it; marking as solved.  For the benefit of anyone else that manages to run into this same problem, I'll spell it out here since there's a lot of competing suggestions floating around that, at least for me, failed to solve the problem:
    1. pacman'd upx *
    2. downloaded the pbsetup for 32-bit Linux Games (GUI version) from here.
    3. ran upx -d pbsetup.run
    4. ran ./pbsetup.run as root
    5. added Enemy Territory with the path /opt/enemy-territory and updated
    6. copied /opt/enemy-territory/pb to ~/.etwolf/pb and corrected the ownership and permissions so my user has ownership and read-write permissions on everything in the local pb directory.
    7. ran the game and enabled punkbuster.
It gave some initial notice of a guid mismatch in the first server I connected to, but I haven't seen it since.
    * I happened to have lib32-libpng12 from AUR installed.  It may be necessary to run the gui client.

  • Users can no longer connect to servers via their IP addresses.

    1) Up until March users could connect to two file servers (10.4 and 10.6) by IP address.
    2) Now, only computers that are not managed by Casper can connect.  All the Windows machines and a couple of Macs (not managed) can connect to these Servers.  One of the Macs is filtered by iBoss, but mine bypasses the filter.  We can both connect.
    3) On the day this happened, I updated the iBoss firmware and sent out the script below which should not be related.  The commonality seems to have something to do with computers managed by Casper (JAMF).
    4) Any suggestions?  Thanks for your help.
sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/k ickstart -configure -allowAccessFor -specifiedUsers
sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/k ickstart -configure -users ladmin -access -on -privs -all

Check your firewall logs find out if it's at your end that's blocking access
Log into one of the blocked machines with your login that's not blocked to find out if it's a user level or machine block
Read the iboss firmware release notes
See if there is any changes that effect your current setup
Check firewall rules make sure the effected machines, vlans etc have access to the servers
See if Casper still access the effected machines

  • Earthlink Servers -- "can't connect to server"

Recently (the last couple of weeks) Safari have been displaying the message "can't connect to server" when trying to access certain pages.
    Here are the particulars:
This only happens with Safari, not with any other browser (netscape, firefox, explorer) on my Mac or my PC.
The problem is intermittent -- sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Both times when I've called apple tech support (and they tried to reproduce the problem, it was working)
The problem only exists with Earthlink's homepages ...any page that has the url "home.earthlink.net/~whatever. So this rules out any particular page or site ...the problems (for me) seems confined to Earthlink homepage servers.
This happens whether logged on via dial-up, or using DSL ethernet (these two are via my isp, earthlink) ...or when using my neighbor's wireless connection via Comcast. So the problem is not unique to the ISP.
Here's the puzzling part. When the problem does exist, I can access the page by typing www. in from of the home.earthlink.... and the page loads. When the problem does not exits and the www. is placed in front of the url, Safari displays the "can't connect to server" message (???).
Also, during these intermittent periods when it doesn't work, any other pages I have that call upon graphics with a SRC url of home.earthlink.... the graphics don't display.
Lastly, my tracking program has shown (1) a significant drop in the pages accessed with Safari, (2) the pages that are accessed with Safari are occasionally accessed with the www.home.earthlink.... url, so this is obviously happening to other safari users.
For my part, I've done all the usual stuff, checked here for similar reports, reset Safari and trashed all the prefs. No changes.
Apple tech seems to think this is an Earthlink Server problem. Earthlink tech acknowledges no such problem and feels it's Safari's problem. ...and I'm caught in the middle Hrmpf!!!
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
    I'm using OS 10.3.9 with Safari 1.3.2
"home.earthlink.net/~skinesscentuals" -- one of the affected sites
    iBook G4 1.33 w/Mac OS X (10.3.9) w/768 MB
    Dell Pent III w/WinXP (SP2) w384 MB

Let's try it the other way around. Open Network Preferences and open the lock.
Set up a new location, I call it "verizon" because the DNS nums will be theirs, available to all. Enter as 2 separate lines
    4.2.2.2
    4.2.2.1
Proxies have been a problem so make sure you have none unless you really need them.
    Apply now. Good luck.
Do a forum search on "open dns" for 2 more servers to get their nums. I can't see them as that is what I am currently running and don't want to mess with it.

  • Safari can't connect to any servers or webpages

    Hi,
I have my internet running without issues. I use Firefox, and currently viewing this page and typing.
Also I can access an FTP server elsewhere in another country.
However when I open Safari, I can't seem to get on any websites with "Safari can't connect to the Server" no matter where I go.
I tried to go on Apple site to download Safari but only available version is the Snow Leopard.
Any idea how I can fix this problem?

Update your DNS to a known-good server, such as OpenDNS or Google DNS.
Reference Safari 5.0.1 or later: Slow or partial webpage ... - Support - Apple for more information.
If using known-good DNS doesn't resolve the issue, turn off plugins and extensions in Safari. Check to see if the issue persists. If it doesn't, then one of the plugins or extensions is causing the issue. Follow Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may ... - Support - Apple for more information.
If the issue is not resolved by addressing the DNS or add-ons, then start by emptying Safari caches. If that doesn't help, then reset Safari (note: you will lose auto fill contents, such as saved passwords, for example). If it still doesn't work, there are additional steps, but the DNS or add-ons are most likely the cause.

  • Safari can't connect to some servers but FF can??

Safari can’t open the page “http ://www.xxxxxxx.com/” because Safari can’t connect to the server “www.xxxx.com”.
I've been getting this all day but not with all sites. I tried FF on the last one where it happened and it opened it fine. I've even got this trying to open a page at Apple Support. How can I fix this?
It happened with both Safari 3.2.3 and with Safari 4 after I installed it today.
    Computer: Powerbook 12" 1.5GHz, MacOS 10.4.11.
    Thanks

I have just strated having the problem outlined above....with www.yahoo.com and www.google.com (both directly connecting to Google, and using the built-in search box in Safari). Others seem to be fine. Have tried the suggestion above - no luck. Also tried "Reset Safari" to no avail.
    Has anyone discovered a solution?
    I could try re-installing Safari I s'pose.....

  • Applications running under Managed Account not able to connect to servers

My kids use a Managed Account on my MacBook (running Lion).  They have two games (Roblox and Minecraft) which can not connect to their particular game servers.  These games work fine when running under the Administrator account.  I believe that the ports that these games are trying to connect to may be blocked when running under a Managed Account.  The firewall is disabled.  Is there a way to open up specific network ports to programs running under Managed Accounts?

Still don't have an anwer for you, but just a few thoughts... So it would seem that creating a Managed account automatically invokes some user account firewall settings, since the game works under your admin account. I was  able to access the System Prefs under a managed account to see about opening up the port in question, but if this is indeed the problem, the firewall isn't the GUI kind.
It's possible that there would be a terminal command to do so, but I wouldn't have a clue about how to do that.

I updated my software in my iPad, can't connect to App Store or iTunes, It says that I have to change to US account, right now I'm in Mexico, how can I change it to my US account

    Back up all data.
Unlock the Network preference pane, if necessary, by clicking the lock icon in the lower left corner and entering your password. Cllck Advanced, open the DNS tab, and change the server addresses to the following:
              8.8.8.8
              8.8.4.4
That's Google DNS. Click OK, then Apply.
    In Safari, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If you’re using another browser, empty the cache. Test. Any difference?
    Notes:
    1. If you lose Internet access after making the above change to your network settings, delete the Google servers in the  Network preference pane, then select the TCP/IP tab and click Renew DHCP Lease. That should restore the original DNS settings; otherwise restore them yourself. Remember that you must click Apply in order for any changes to take effect.
    2. I don't use Google DNS myself, though I have tested it, and I'm not recommending it or any other DNS provider; the server addresses are offered merely for testing purposes. There may be privacy and technical issues involved in using that service, which you should investigate personally before you decide whether to keep the settings. Other public DNS services exist.

    # To assign specific IP addresses to specific
    # clients or if a connecting client has a private
    # subnet behind it that should also have VPN access,
    # use the subdirectory "ccd" for client-specific
    # configuration files (see man page for more info).
    # EXAMPLE: Suppose the client
    # having the certificate common name "Thelonious"
    # also has a small subnet behind his connecting
    # machine, such as 192.168.40.128/255.255.255.248.
    # First, uncomment out these lines:
    ;client-config-dir ccd
    ;route 192.168.40.128 255.255.255.248
    # Then create a file ccd/Thelonious with this line:
    # iroute 192.168.40.128 255.255.255.248
    # This will allow Thelonious' private subnet to
    # access the VPN. This example will only work
    # if you are routing, not bridging, i.e. you are
    # using "dev tun" and "server" directives.
    # EXAMPLE: Suppose you want to give
    # Thelonious a fixed VPN IP address of 10.9.0.1.
    # First uncomment out these lines:
    ;client-config-dir ccd
    ;route 10.9.0.0 255.255.255.252
    # Then add this line to ccd/Thelonious:

    # Suppose that you want to enable different
