Can't connect to SMB server

Hi! I have trouble with connection to my smb server on debian. When I try to connect from "connect to server" menu, I get this error: URLs with the type "smb:" are not supported". Now I can connect only with bash command. But few days ago all worked from GUI.
In system.log I got this (I try connect from PathFinder & Finder):

We are using the MacServerIP (9.0) AFP server on a windows 2003 server. After updating from 10.5 to 10.6 we can not connect to this server using AFP anymore (connection failed). Connecting via SMB works fine.

I have the same problem logging in to an old Snap Server via AFP. "you entered an invalid username or password." is the error message. All was well in OS9 through 1.4 but this broke on 10.6 upgrade fro 10.4.
Apple support has not solved the problem. One thing I noticed is in the login dialog box there is no longer a list of options like there was in all versions up through 10.4, like sending password in clear text.
It is clear, that the two computers see each other given that the request for name and password come up for the target server.

Lion can not connect to smb if use root login

This might help. I have a Seagate Dockstar (Pogoplug w/samba) with attached drives connected to my network that was easily discoverable with Bonjour in Snow.
From my experience -
I got the SMB share working (sort of) in Lion 10.7
While the network hub and connected drive(s) won't automatically appear as a Connected Server, or Bonjour Computer I was able to find the Dockstar by going to -
Go/Connect to Server and then enter it's specific info - smb://fabx2d09fe (my device's actual number was different than this).
The dialog pops up for name and password - or connect as Guest. I couldn't remember if I had set these so tried Guest and was able to access/mount the drive on the desktop and sucessfully read/write to/from it.
I may have to always connect to recent servers to get the thing to mount so it's not as automatic as Bonjour in the sidebar - but it does work!
This mostly solved the issue for my needs....maybe it would work for yours?

MBPro Can't Connect through SMB, Can VNC to iMac then SMB though

I have an MBP with 10.5.6 and an iMac with 10.5.6
I have SMB connections to a file server that I can connect to. On the iMac (hard wired into the network/domain), all connections are fine and I can connect to the server whenever.
On the MBP, though, i can only connect to the server during what seems liek specific times of the day. For example in the morning, I can connect and transfer files without a problem, but in the evening, it won't let me connect. The servers do not have any time of day preference and do not regulate users based on time of day either. Also, my VPN is working fine and is a non issue.
What is strangest though, is that I can VNC to my iMac, then connect to those very same servers even though I couldn't directly from the MBP.
Any ideas?

I have also noticed that this is happening to a few other people in my department, so it seems like it may be an OS thing, but I am still not sure. Anybody?

Unable to connect to smb server

I'm not a very technical person, so please bear with me.
I have a mac in a windows enviroment. I used to connect to smb server where I had my "private" hard disk space. Or a user interface if you wish. It's the same "place" that I can connect to via Remote Desktop Connection. Path looked like this:
smb://xx.xx.xx.xx/user$/username
It worked fine until I upgraded to OS Lion. Now I get "You do not have permission to access this server".
Now I *think* the problem might be that the password to my username has been changed, but I am unable to enter new password for my username. I tried deleting keychain, but I don't get username/password prompt. Just the error msg.
Another possibility is that its a "lion" problem..
Please help.. Ive googled and asked around, but no one knows.

Yes it used to work fine both ways.
I can ping the Windows XP Home box from the mac. I can access the mac files across the network fine from the Windows box. I just can't connect to the Windows box using smb://ipaddress
All I can think of that has changed was the upgrade to 10.4.8, and I am not sure if the problem started then or before, because I didn't need to share files with Windows for a while...
Interestingly enough, I can also print to a shared printer on the Windows box...
So again, about all I cannot seem to do is connect from the mac using smb

auth-master is created when you start the mail service. Deleted if you stop the mail service. If that is not happening, you may have to re-install mail. Dovecot is the IMAP/POP part of the mail service. I am not sure what happens if you disable IMAP. I am guessing it is not there. But that is the extent of any tips I can offer. I suppose you could reinstall, but that seems a bit extreme to me.

Fascinated and guessing:
Something related to sock(2) because that's not part of your copied info. I'm thinking you've doubled up on sockets and the second socket doesn't exist, meaning you should be connecting to the first socket "mysqld.sock" whether automatic or not.
I've only used GUI tools on purpose, so does this mean you've already got MySQL running and you tried to launch it again manually? Perhaps you already have one instance of a db and you're trying to launch a second instance, and the two can't coexist with a single user local db?
Assuming this is all local, I'd shut down the db service and restart it, out of hand. I've seen similar messages when I set the db to start up on boot, and it didn't finish shutting down when I tried to restart it manually. Usually the GUI won't let me turn it on because it reports it's already running, but in that case it hadn't finished performing what the GUI was reporting.

Ok, so my ipod youch says it's connected to the wifi but when i try to get on the internet it says it can't connect to the server. I've looked and there's alot of answers but they're all soooooooooooooo complicated. I'm like 14, so whoever can answer this, please use small words.
I've noticed in alot of the answers they talk about your IP adress, if it's any consilation mine starts with 169. No matter where I go, if it's at home, or at starbucks or a hotel.

Have you tried restoring your iPod touch in iTunes?
You may just be trying to connect to "Printer Networks" that allow a company/residence to print something from their printer wirelessly, it would appear on your iPod touch just about the same as any other network, but you wouldn't be able to use internet while connected to that network...
If you are talking about "free wifi" in a Cafe, like Starbucks, you will usually need to open Safari. A Page will load and tell you how to connect to their internet, whether it's by paying, or just agreeing to their terms...
Like, I said, if that isn't the problem, try restoring your iPod touch in iTunes...

is that external Lync clients are logging in with out any issues.

Safari Not Loading Web Pages (Safari can't connect to the server)

I'm seeing increasing problems with Safari being unable to connect to websites. When the problem starts to manifest itself you see the error:
Safari can't connect to the server.
Safari can't open the page.
Then you see the URL information. It is always seems to be sites that are trying to load HTTPS pages.
Clearing the cache and resetting Safari will make it go away temporarily, but it always comes back.
Note that when this happens you might happen to see something like this in the address bar:
file:///Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/

I'm having the same problem, I can open safari but when I try to go to a website it just says "server stopped responding." I just updated to the new version and that's when it started happening, it was working find before the update. Any suggestions???

Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait few minutes.
Plug it back in. Power on the router.
Wait until all the lights are lit properly. It will take a while.
Restart the computer.

Click "Change Settings" button
The network preferences window for Proxies will will show up with "Proxies"
