Can't connect to the exchange server

I'm having trouble geting Mail to work with the exchange server here at work. any ideas?

I tried Mick's suggestions but they don't help. One problem seems to be that my boxname on the exchange server unfortunately has a space in it ("firstname lastname", windows style). Upon initial setup the configurator won't allow this, but even if I set up a dummy username (without spaces) and then add the space into the account information afterward, I still see "could not connect to this exchange server" when I click on "Check Again" in the Mail Connection Doctor.
The outgoing SMTP server is configured as servername.companyname.local, port 25, no SSL, and no authentication, and outgoing mail works fine... so it's not a routing or DNS lookup issue on the local side.
The other annoying thing is that the instructions at
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/2.0/en/ml1098.html
say that the "Assist me..." button should bring up something called Network Diagnostics. But that button is always greyed out, and spotlight doesn't turn up any apps by that name anywhere on the system.
Can anyone suggest a way of troubleshooting just where things are breaking down? I looked at the most obvious console logs and didn't see anything.
Thanks in advance!

  • Outlook 2013 client, not in domain, can't connect to the Exchange 2013 server.

    Hello everyone,
A colleague and me are in the process of rebuilding our Hosted Exchange servers. Everything is working perfectly except for the local Outlook 2013 clients. They are not in the domain but in the same network (through VLANs) as our Exchange server, and still
they can't connect to Exchange without the use of Outlook anywhere. If we use Outlook Anywhere, it connects perfectly. If I ping the Exchange servers (1 CAS, 2 MBX servers) I get response with the right IP addresses.
We've tried to create a new profile, this goes without problems. We enter the FQDN (or IP address) of CAS server and the required usersname, and the FQDN gets resolved to the correct MBX server where the mailbox resides on. We complete the whole wizard and
then start Outlook. We then get the error that Outlook can't logon to the Exchange server.
Is this an authentication setting that is wrong or do we need to use Outlook Anywhere if the PC is not in the same domain as the Exchange server?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
Agree with Martina, all Outlook clients use RPC over HTTP to connect to Exchange 2013. if the server version is Exchange 2013 SP1, only Outlook 2013 SP1 use MAPI over HTTP to connect to server after we enable the protocol MAPI over HTTP.
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.
    Thanks,

    Hi ,
No I'm not trying to connect remotely I'm trying to connect from the exchange server itself.
I was trying also to connect remotely and got this message:

WinRM client sent a request to an HTTP server and got a response saying the requested HTTP URL was not available. This

    Hi,
The "<cfexchangeConnection>" tag supports both "HTTP"
and "HTTPS" connection.. So Please make sure the username has the
    "Outlook Web Access".
Also try removing the <!--- protocol = "http"--->
comment which you placed inside the "<cfexchangeConnection>"
    tag.

I have an iMac 8-1 with OS is Mac OS X, version 10.7, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, and 3 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory.

Hi there I am having trouble with my outlook express this is the first time it has happened it keeps telling me can't connect to the SMTP server and every password I have tried is incorrect this is for 'iCloud' very frustrating as all our phones are ok

Well I am feeling a bit silly now because that was all I had to do. In the past Workgroup Manager had always opened right up to the list of my users, I never even thought to click on that but apparently that was all that was needed.
I still am not sure how the iChat Server preferences changed themselves on me, but it is not the first time I have had weird "settings" issues with our Snow Leopard Server.
    Thanks!

  • "Safari can't connect to the proxy server"

    Hello again...
My 10.6 Server is up and running! thanks for all the help...however...
When I try to access the internet via Safari from the actual server, I get the "Safari can't connect to the proxy server" message" but all the client machines can successfully access the internet....
I'll start to read up on proxies but if someone can offer a suggestion in the meantime, that would be terrific. I know it's something simple I am missing...
    thanks!

No snarkiness taken Mr. Hoffman...As a full-time high school teacher, I've been setting up our small school server on my own time for the past three months...with the help of the server docs, manuals, and the great help found within this forum, we are finally to a point where we can begin using the server.
What I'm just not understanding is WHAT proxy do I use? I see all kinds of proxy servers out there but is there a specific one I should be using?
Again, forgive me for my ignorance on this matter...I just don't understand why after a year of not using a proxy server, all of a sudden we need to have one? And this issue came about when Safari was unable to "connect to the proxy server"...
    MrHoffman wrote:
    1) So normally, there ISN'T a proxy being used?
Proxies are used in school and corporate environments, and as a mechanism to >implement "network nanny" or parental controls, or when information leakage >involving sensitive or classified data, or personal or credit card data, or >other sensitive data is involved.
When IT folks (or parents) are looking to monitor or control or track network access.
up to this point I don't believe we were using a proxy server?
    2) A proxy "regulates" what traffic is passed between machines?
A proxy can enforce access, or can cache access, yes.
So no proxy in effect means traffic goes unchecked between computers...?
    Correct.
do we HAVE to use a proxy server with the server?
    3) Where does a proxy take effect? At the Router/Gateway? The Server? or >individual machines?
A functional proxy requires a proxy server, and settings at the firewall, and >on the client box.
The proxy setting can be established via WGM, or locally via the system >preferences, or (and the following are less common) via malware or such, or due >to a bug. These settings are usually altered with WGM and system preferences, >in the vast majority of cases.
Enabling a proxy server on the snow leopard server should help us out...but again, which address do I use? (in the server doc you referenced, it had "proxyserver.apple.com:8080")but I think that was just the format to use...
Without intending any snark, read the manuals? Servers are big and complex >and expect an understanding of much more than the client boxes do; that's the >inherent difference between "server computing" and "client computing", after >all.
I'm definitely appreciating how much involvement and understanding it takes to get one of these set up...and over the past three months, we've come a long way...
again, thanks for the guidance and help!

  • HT1338 Software Update can't connect to the update server. Make sure you're connected to the Internet, and then try again

I have been getting this message on MAC OS 10.6.3  "Software Update can’t connect to the update server. Make sure you’re connected to the Internet, and then try again". Internet is working fine for everything else. Updating to 10.6.8 and applying all the security updates and patches [directly downloading from the apple website] has not resolved the issue. Read somewhere about a software update enabler for 10.6, installed it, but not helping.. [not sure of the update server settings to be entered] .Is there no way to make the software update work from the Apple Start Menu??

Problem solved.. Expired rules in Little Snitch caused the glitch

I can't connect to the Itunes server..firewall is allowing it but no connection to the Itunes store. The sign in and password are correct

Why not do a "Restore"  in iTunes to set it back to factory settings? That will eliminate any previous information that is causing you issues in use. You will have an iPod which you can sync as if it is new with your settings and info.

  • Outlook can't connect to our Exchange server.

I give up, it just won't work.
When i add an account in Outlook and specify our server, it just stays at this window:
It never disappears. If i close it i get an unencrypted connection which i don't want.
I've probably configured it wrong somewhere, hints?

    Hi,
For this issue, please ping the Exchange server from the client to check if you can ping Exchange server successfully.
Did you create the Outlook profile automatically or manually?
In order to troubleshoot the issue more efficiently, could you please describe the message in the Windows Security?

  • ITunes "can't connect to the CDDB server" for tracks on a CD (but can once I've imported them)

When I insert a CD into my computer, iTunes cannot get the track names before importing, I get the "Unable to connect to the CDDB server. The network cannot be reached." Bizarrely, however, once I import the tracks onto my PC and ask iTunes to 'Get Track Names' for the files in my library, it can do it fine. I am also able to access the iTunes Store without trouble.
Also, in what I'm sure is related, the Apple Software Update program does not work anymore ("The server could not be found"), so I've to manually download new versions of iTunes from the Apple website.
I've had this problem for months, and I've tried pretty much every solution I'd seen posted for similar problems (reinstalling iTunes, disabling my virus protection, updating Gracenote, ensuring the proxy settings are automatic) with no success.

I've just tried putting my computer into Safe Mode (with netwroking) to check if there was some other program stopping it from working properly, but iTunes still acted the same. It's more of a minor inconvienience than a problem, seeing as I can just get track names after importing and update manually, but it's still pretty baffling.
