Can't connect to the internet when running Windows XP

Whenever I boot my computer in windows xp I cannot connect to the internet. I Have wifi in my house however I cant seem to connect to it. I tried plugging into an ethernet cable and that doesn't work either. When I open my list of connections, It shows me what appears to be a working connection, however there are no packets being sent or recieved. I can connect fine when I boot in Mac OS X so what is the deal?

nevermind, I figured it out

  • Premiere Elements 12.1 Constantly Connecting To The Internet When Running

    Hi there!
I have an issue with Premiere Elements 12.1 constantly connecting to the Internet when running... it looks like it is either trying to connect to something or downloading something.
Premiere runs OK, but it is very slow: this is due to it trying to connect. (We've proved this by running the program without the Internet disabled... it sits at about 13,000K in memory... and works fine).
Anybody got any idea why it is connecting to the Internet in the first place and how we can stop it doing it.
We believe this issue started when we updated to v 12.1... but can't be sure!
We have tried uninstalling and re-installing it... same problem. We're virus checked till all night... nothing found (no root kits, nothing etc.)
We're running Win XP Service Pack 3, 32 bit... I know 'Windows XP is old etc. etc. etc.'. Yet it still works great and is nice and fast for us here.
    Any advice/suggestions greatly received!
    Thanks in advance,
    GRBaker

    Hi Steve,
Thanks a bunch for the post... we're certainly experiencing no other issues besides the 'downloading' issue on Premiere... various virus/spyware etc. scans have revealed nothing. There's nothing odd in the Startup or process list...
PC operates entirely as normal... no unusual performance lags/Internet disconnections etc. No issues with other software, so far, after installing Elements.
So we're currently leaving the program on to 'download' (or whatever it is doing), so it could be that it will eventually stop constantly accessing the Internet.
We are already in contact with Adobe and they are keeping pretty tight-lipped about what it might be doing... saying (so far) only that Photoshop Elements/Premiere 12 does connect to CloudFront to 'download fonts'... (they were also basically indicating they thought it was our PC/a faulty install until we mentioned we knew it was CloudFront it was trying to connect to...)
...if the applications need to download stuff, then all Adobe has to say is 'it's perfectly normal, just wait for it to complete' then we would not be worried! All it needs is a simple notice to say that 'some additional downloads are required': give us a progress bar or something... no problem!
I can't think why else it would be connecting to the Internet???? (Well, a couple do come to mind..!)
We did pay for the download version of the software (we don't have physical installation DVDs) from one of Adobe's Registered resellers, so maybe that has something to do with it.
I suspect you are 100% correct and that it isn't in fact a bug, bit simply some additional data/content that needs to download etc. If this is the case, then maybe it is related to our broadband speed (which can variable as we live in a rural location).
As you say, if it was a bug everybody would have it! There is that thread I mentioned above, but that's for a previous version of elements I think... to me, as the user experiencing the issue, it definitely looks like a bug as it's rendering the software unstable!
Most likely it's just our bad luck and there's something specific to my installation that's tripping the software and causing the issue. I suppose it depends how you define 'bug'... if it's a normal operation of the software that just happens to disagreeing with my system... than Adobe would say 'that's not a bug'... but I would say 'it's a bug as it causes this problem'. It simply a question of perspective!
Anyway, it's mystifying to me: the software runs GREAT, when it's not trying to access the Internet. It's weird. You certainly can't complain, for price, it really is excellent software!
    Cheers,
    GRB

  • HT1695 Why can't I connect to the Internet when I not at home

Why can't I connect to the Internet when I'm not home

If you do not have an iPad with 3G cellular service, you can only connect to the internet when you have access to Wifi.  Wifi is not available everywhere, but there are places that do offer free Wifi service, such as Starbucks, Panera Bread, the Airport, etc.  When you are at a location which offers free Wifi access, you have to join their network, which is usuall nothing more than touching a connect option that should automatically pop up, when you open Safari on your ipad.

  • Was always working and today I get a message that it can not connect to the internet. Internet Exployer works fine. So, I tried uninstalling the program and reinstalled. Still did not work. check out the proxy and firewall no problems there.

I get a message can not connect to the internet when trying to open Mozzila Firefox. It was working fine until my internet service went down. Once back up it was not working. I have tried installing and uninstalling the browser. I have looked at the firewall and proxy on my computer. Still not working Internet Exployer works fine. Deleted all cookies also.

Did you check your security software (firewall)?
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

  • Safari doesn't connect to the internet when on a wireless connection

Safari with 10.4.8 can't connect to the internet when on a wireless network. Ok with hard connection. What is strange is I Chat and AIM work OK wireless as well as E-mail. In internet connect the Airport shows full strength. Its just Safari that is not connected.

Power off the router. Wait awhile. Power it back on. Wait until all the lights are lit up properly.
    It will take a while.
    Restart the computer.
    Start up in Safe Mode

Halfway through the OS X Yosemite update it says I am not connected to the internet (when I know I am because I can search through the app store). How can I fix this? I cannot get on Safari because it requires an update to Mac OS X 10.9 or later.

Just to be clear. You have downloaded the Yosemite installer. However you say while it's updating you get the error you are not online. This is confusing since you shouldn't be able to use your computer in the process of updating.
Exactly where do you see you need to 10.9 to get on Safari?

  • Can't connect to the internet on a wireless system at school, but fine when I'm at home.

Can't connect to the internet on a wireless system at school, but fine when I'm at home. All semester, there was no problem getting on the wireless system at school.  I had a problem, put in my school log-in and password and saved it in keychain.  Since, that time I have been unable to connect to the wireless system at school.  I delete this action out of "Keychain" and went to "Preferences" and deleted the "Keychain" action, but today at school I couldn't log in.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  MacBook; OS 10.5.8

I think your best bet is to go to technical support at your school (hopefully you have one) and they will help you out. The only reason I can come up with as to why you are not getting wireless access is that your settings are wrong (need to turn airport on) or your computer is not registered into the university.
    Good luck.

Does the iPod show wifi bands in the upper left?
    Try:
    - Resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Powering off and then back on the router

  • Some of my Mac apps can´t connect to the internet, while Firefox can

All of a sudden, Safari, ITunes, Software Update, can´t connect to the internet.  It happens in my office and in my house.  Have not checked other networks.  Firefox wors fine, as does Mail (for now).  What can be the problem?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    As Guest, test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on some Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.) Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Unable to update devices, receiving error 3014 on iTunes, and device via wifi is stating "Not connected to the internet", when it has an active internet connection

    Hi,
I have been encountering this issue and I have run out of ideas as to what would be causing this error. On numerous apple devices for our business I will receive an error 3014 when updating a device via iTunes, and this is after the software update downloads. When attempting to update the device over wifi it states that the device is not connected to the internet, when I ensured that the device has active internet connectivity.
Our business uses a Juniper firewall, which I thought might have been the initial cause of the issue, however I have ensured that ports 80 and 443 have full traffic flow and nothing blocking it, and I've also exempted all *.apple.com websites that I could find listed online.
I have also tried deleting the host files on the computer I am using to circumvent the issue.
If anyone could shed some light on what I can do to resolve this, that would be appreciated.

    Hi evanVIT,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that issues like the one you are experiencing can be very frustrating. For this situation however, for update errors in the range of 3000-3020, I would recommend the troubleshooting steps located in the attached article. Please use the steps and information as a reference.
Error 3194, Error 17, or "This device isn't eligible for the requested build"

  • I am trying to update my itunes to the latest version, but it says the itunes server could not be updated and i need to connect to the internet when I amlready am connected

I am trying to update my itunes to the latest version, but it says the itunes server could not be updated and i need to connect to the internet when I amlready am connected. How do I get the latest version of itunes so i can sync my iphone with itunes without losing all my songs?

We were able to fix our machine!  I just could not make sense of the error message, so we were trying non-Microsoft, non-Apple solutions.
Our Solution:  Install MalWareBytes, and run a Quick Scan.
Even thought both Microsoft anti-virus and Defender were running on our Windows 8 machine, MalWareBytes found about 100 problems.  As I looked over the types of problem and locations, I found several that referenced the exact directory referenced in this message.  The machine had to be restarted for MalWareBytes to complete the cleaning, but iTunes installed afterwards with no problems.
    Thank you MalWareBytes!

  • Can't connect to the internet though my iMac thinks everything is fine

I got my iMac connected to a router which is connected to a DSL-modem. I had this up and running for a year until I needed the router for something else and then put it back in place.
Now I can't connect to the internet. I got a green dot for my network settings, I got a plausible IP, the router's IP is filled in correctly. When I run the assistant it tells me that there are no problems connecting to the ethernet.
I tried switching routers, I restarted both the router and the modem (and the iMac of course), I tried entering the IP-adress manually... nothing works.
And by the way; my old b/w G3 works just fine at the same cable. Both computers got the same settings in the network panel, but obviously something does differ, but what?
And by the second way, I had my iMac at the workshop which charged me for checking it since it doesn't have any hardware problem.
    HELP!
    Thanks in advance! Daniel

Naa, I really don't know any longer what to do. Now I'm sitting with my old laptop at the same cable after replacing DSL-splitter, DSL-modem, the router including power supplies, I even cut the contacts and fixed new ethernet-plugs. Works fine with this PC, works fine with the G3, and it just won't work with the iMac.
Last chance: I'm gonna try with WLAN, probably there's something wrong with the ethernet adapter even though this repair dude couldn't find anything.
    *E D I T*
Japp, airport is working just fine. This means that there's something wrong with my iMac, right? I'm gonna take it to my job on monday and try to connect to the LAN there, then we're gonna see.
