Can't connect to Wi-Fi MacBook Air 2012

Hello,
I know this issue has been posted already here, but I've had a real hard time trying to figure out what should I do in my case, so here is my situation:
My MacBook Air 13", Mountain Lion 10.8.2 is experiencing problems to connect to Wi-Fi in public places. It was working very well until a week ago or so. I used to go to different cafeterias to work so I know it was working very well, but now I'm going to the same cafeterias and there is no way I can connect to the internet. The signal at the Menu Bar does indicate the connection is strong an solid, but when I want to connect to any website, invariably it tells me it couldn't connect.
I am not that skillful with computers so if you have a suggestion for me, please explain to me as if I was a 5 years old non-native English speaker. Thank you so much for that! My English is good but sometimes I just miss things. Thank you so much everybody and looking forward!
Carlos

  • Can't connect my iphone with macbook air

Updated both my iphone 5s and my MacBook Air with latest software and was so excited to start using handoff, but it´s just not working.
Maybe there´s someone who can help me and guide through all this.

The following may help (although many are still having issues): Get help using Continuity with iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite
One thing that has been a source of confusion is people are attempting to pair the phone and Mac via Bluetooth. You cannot do that. Bluetooth needs to be on for both devices and they need to be in range but you cannot pair them. Here is an excellent article about that: Bluetooth: Why can't I pair my iPhone or iPad with my computer?

  • Can I connect my October 2010 Macbook Air to a Thunderbolt display?

Does it only work with the MacBook Airs that came out today?

Sorry but it only works with a Mac that has Thunderbolt. An october 2010 MacBook Air will therefore not work with it. But you can still purchase the older Apple LED Cinema Display for the next year or two.

  • I am connecting an external USB HDD and I can see it on my Apple Macbook Air. BUT this drive is READ only. How can I write to it?

I am connecting an external USB HDD and I can see it on my Apple Macbook Air. BUT this drive is READ only. How can I write to it?

    Drive Partition and Format
1.Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.

  • I have a new Macbook Air 2012, Apple TV 2 and I have tried wired and wireless connections both result in stuttering during video airplay to the ATV2.

I have a new Macbook Air 2012, Apple TV 2 and I have tried wired and wireless connections both still result in stuttering during video airplay to the ATV2.
I have even bought a new Airport Extreme Router just to confirm it is not the router and it still didn't help.
I have brought all items in the same room with wired connections and still same issue.
I was thinking maybe ATV 3 might help since it has 2 wifi antennas and faster processor.
Have tried everything I could think of.
This was one of the main reasons I bought a Macbook Air for this airplay feature. Very frustrated.
Any thoughts; any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the suggestion.
I also disabled Norton Firewall and restarted the Air and Now I'm able to use Air Play.
I know that the Apple remedy said that to do that in the support article, but I totally forgot I had that enabled..
It actually works. I can even stream to the Apple TV now through my MacBook Air.
BTW, Go into setting under the ATV, and click on update...you'll see that there was another update avaialble for the last gen of ATV...
It does have to restart twice..I guess once to download and and nother to apply.

  • Can MacBook Air (2012) handle 1920x1080 resolution on external display?

    Hi there,
I was currently thinking about buying the following external display:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-E2251VR-inch-Widescreen-Monitor/dp/B0060LCBTG/ref=cm_ cr_pr_product_top
I have read mixed things about connecting macbooks to external displays so wanted to ask the following:
    1. Firstly can the MacBook air 2012 handle an external monitor with resolution 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz?
    2. Secondly, I have heard some Macbooks, with some cables (predominantly HDMI), don't give the option of 1920x1080 when plugged in, instead cap it at around 1600 leaving the external screen blurry. Which connection is best to get the full 1080p resolution, DVI, VGA or HDMI?
Thanks for any help you guys can offer!
    Rob

    Thanks for your responses!
Captfred - I've tried plugging it into my friends screen now using my minidisplay to HDMI cable and the following options show up:
    1080i
    1080p
    720p
    1600x1400
    1440x900
    etc etc
Is the 1080p option 1920x1080? If I choose the 1080p option, the resolution looks nice and has large real estate on there, the only thing is if I full screen it the top and bottom are cut off? Is this a problem with the aspect ratio of the screen do you think?
    Thanks again

  • HT1941 trying to connect time  apsule to macbook air with the ethernet cable in the WAN port the airport utility doesn't detect it

trying to connect time  capsule to macbook air with the ethernet cable in the WAN port but the airport utility doesn't detect it but when i put it in the LAN one it does but it doesn't let me configure
    any ideas?

Isn't it fun trying to do things without an ethernet cable direct to the computer.. Apple sell a usb to ethernet adapter cable fairly cheap.. makes life a lot easier having something to do hard connections.. or as hard as usb can manage.
Since you have to access the TC by wireless .. press and hold the reset button on the TC for about 10sec until front led flashes rapidly.. don't worry about the ethernet cable.. leave it disconnected.
Now click on the airport symbol and join another network. The TC should revert to its home name.. which will be a combo of Time Capsule and its MAC address. There is no wireless security and you can do the setup.

  • Can i hook up a new macbook air to my older imac screen that does not have a thunderbolt i/o?

can i hook up a new macbook air to my older imac screen that does not have a thunderbolt i/o? if not - what can i do to view on a larger display? thanks in advance for any help!!!

You should be able to get an adapter that will change the Thunderbolt out to a DVI or HDMI out, and connect that to an external monitor.  I am not sure what connection your iMac screen has, or if it even HAS input capability.  I know that the 27' iMac BEFORE it was given the Thunderbolt ports had MiniDP input.  If your iMac is any older than that one, I am not sure. But the adapter should allow you to output to any DVI or HDMI display, depending on which adapter you get.

  • Why can't I back up my Macbook Air using Airport extreme.

I "used to" back up my Macbook air via Time machine using external harddisk connected to Airport extreme, of course back up wirelessly over WiFi. But now I've seen on Apple support page about Airport extreme that this cannot be done anymore. I've only 3 choices to do Time machine back up using Time capsule, external harddisk that connected to Time capsule or connect harddisk directly to Macbook air. But not harddisk connectd to Airport extreme anymore. So did Apple just change how backing up can be done recently? And is there any way I can back up using harddisk connected to Airport extreme?
Thanks in advance for any help.

But now I've seen on Apple support page about Airport extreme that this cannot be done anymore.
Not sure what  you mean here by "anymore".
Apple never did officially support Time Machine backups to a drive connected to the USB port on any of the Generation 1 though 5 AirPort Extreme versions.  These were all the "flat" or "square" shaped versions of the AirPort Extreme.
Some users seemed to be able to do this though, while others.....like me....had nothing but problems when they tried it.
Time Machine backups are supported with a USB drive connected to the newer "tower" 802.11ac version of the AirPort Extreme.
I've only 3 choices to do Time machine back up using Time capsule, external harddisk that connected to Time capsule or connect harddisk directly to Macbook air. But not harddisk connectd to Airport extreme anymore
Do you have the drive that is connected to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme mounted and displayed on the desktop of your Mac?  If you do, it should appear as an option to choose as a destination for Time Machine backups, even though this is not officially supported if you have a Gen 1 through Gen 5 AirPort Extreme.
