Can't connect to Windows 7 Machine

Hello All,
I'm getting increasingly frustrated with this issue! I have a Mac Pro running 10.8.4 that I'm trying to connect to a Windows 7 machine. I need to transfer lots of files from this Mac to the Windows 7 machine as it will be replacing it eventually. I've found the ip address of the windows machine (192.168.0.71) and, using Command-K to connect to the "server" I type "smb://192.168.0.71" ... Everything should be groovy but I keep getting the error:
"There was a problem connecting to the server. The Share does not exist on the server. Please check the share name and try again."
What in the world does this mean? The Windows machine is set up to be visible, shared, drives can be accessed, and in those drives, the permissions are such that EVERYONE can access. I'm totally lost and very frustrated.
Am I doing something stupid? Does anyone have any suggestions?! Thanks in advance!!!

  • Can't connect to windows 7 machine using microsoft remote desktop connection

I am unable to connect from my home network to the Windows 7 Professional machine at my office, using either Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection (2.1.1) for Mac or the open source CoRD program.
When connected to the office network (which is running MS Small Business Server 2011 Standard) both CoRD and MS RDC will connect to my desktop machine just fine! (My MacBook Pro runs Mountain Lion.)
From my home network, MS RDC will complain that it cannot find the Windows computer if I just use the Windows computer name. If I use the Windows machine's iPV4 address, it works on it for a minute and then tosses up this error message:
Using the IP address of the Windows machine, CoRD just grinds away for a minute or so and then times out.
I should add that using Internet Exporer under Parallels from home, I can get a little closer to success (after fidding around with ActiveX controls for a bit). I will get to the Windows login screen, but then I am told that my user password is wrong (which makes no sense at all)!
Okay, geniuses, have at it, and thanks in advance!!

  • Can't see one windows 7 machine on my network

I have one iMac and several Windows machines at home. My iMac can see my 2 Windows XP machines with no problem. My iMac can eventually connect to 2 of my Windows 7 machines. My iMac cannot connect to my other Windows 7 machine since I upgraded to Mountain Lion earlier today. I need this connection to back upmy iMac. With Lion, I had some occasional connection problems but with Mountain Lion, I haven't been able to connect to that machine at all yet. As a side note, I never had any problem connecting to any of my Windows matches when I was running Snow Leopard.

You don't mention anything about the Sharing preferences you have set up on both the iMac and Windows box. Sharing works perfectly on my iMac and MBA  both with Mt. Lion so it's not a Mt. Lion issue. I'd recommend posting more about the settings you have set up.

  • Can't connect to Windows PC

I have a windows XP machine, connected via ethernet to a wifi adsl modem/router. From my old windows laptop i could access files via wireless and print to the printer connected to the windows pc, but with my MAC (my 1st) i cannot see the windows pc. When i first turned on my mac the windows pc showed under finder>shared, but not so now. I can access it via the Go>Connect to Server option in Finder and then it shows under 'shared' but otherwise it doesn't. And i can't see the printer attached to it either, yet that is shared and my old windows laptop can use it just fine.
I read another post about deleting the plist sidebar file which i did but had no effect. I just want my windows pc to appear in my finder sidebar when it's on, so i can access the files and print to the printer. Why is that so hard?
    Can anyone advise

Might want to check the Mac's settings in the Directory Access Utility under CIS/SMB, especially for the exact Workgroup name.
Also, there's asetting on Windows® to "always allow" Cleartext or whatever... could probably search this forum for the quoted and find it, or wait for one of the great helpers here to stop by.

  • Can't connect to Windows NT with 10.4.3

I have a Windows NT Server that I use to be able to connect to with 10.3. I upgraded to 10.4 and now I can't connect to my NT anymore. I used an IP to connect to it and now its telling me that "This file server uses an incompatible version of the AFP protocol."

The way that I use to connect to my Windows NT Server from my Mac was using the TCP/IP ( i think), I was using the IP from my Server (192.168.1.1) to connect. I wasn't using AppleTalk, I guess...

  • Can i connect a windows pc to my mac via ethernet and connect the pc to the internet?

I have a windows pc in my office which needs internet connection to verify some of the software i use,
i do not have a wired connection in the room.
can i connect the pc to my mac and connect the pc to the internet via the macs wireless connection?
if so what do i need to do and what settings are requiered as ive tried to plug n play it but it doesnt work!
thasnks for any help you can give me guys
    Mike

Use the Internet Sharing option in Sharing preferences. You will be sharing your Wireless connection to your Ethernet port.
Once you check the Ethernet box on the right the Internet Sharing option on the left will become active so you can check it as well.

  • ITunes (and Airfoil) can see Airport Express but can't connect in Windows XP (error -15000) - firewall problems?

I am using Windows XP Professional 2002 w/ SP3 on a Dell Latitude E4300 laptop wirelessly connecting to my Airport Express 802.11n (firmware 7.5.2).
I can see my Airport Express in iTunes 10.4.1 and can select it via the Airplay button. iTunes even detects whether or not a speaker is connected to the Airport Express. But when iTunes tries to connect, it comes back after a while saying "An error occurred while connecting to the Airplay device xxx. An unknown error occurred (error -15000)."
A similar problem happens with Airfoil from Rogue Amoeba that I use to stream music from other apps such as VideoLAN to Airport Express on the same laptop. I can see that my Airport Express is available but when Airfoil tries to connect, it comes back saying "It appears that a firewall on this computer is preventing Airfoil from connecting to xxx Airport Express. Please check your firewall settings and try again."
I've set both Airplay and iTunes as exception programs in my Windows Firewall setting, and even added TCP ports 5000 to 5005 and UDP ports 6000 to 6005 to the exceptions as recommended by Airfoil. I've also disabled Symantec Endpoint Protection that Ihave installed. The only thing I can't disable is McAfee Endpoint Encryption, since I also use the laptop at work and I don't have permission to disableMcAfee.  I use this laptop to connect wirelessly with other devices such as HP wireless printers, NAS drives and other laptops on my home network and have never had any issues, so i think that this issue is specific to the Airplay software being blocked by some firewall (I am assuming Airfoil also uses Airplay).
I've tried this on different wireless networks and I have the same issue with Windows XP on my Dell Latitude E4300. I've also set up the network with no security, but the problem doesn't go away.
I also tried downgrading iTunes to 10.3.1 but won't work. I think it's an Airplay issue, not a specific iTunes issue, since I'm facing the problem with Airfoil as well.
How do I trace what is going on that is preventing iTunes and Airfoil from streaming to the AirportExpress within Windows XP?
I also have another Dell Inspiron laptop on the same network running on Windows Vista, and have no problems streaming music from iTunes or Airfoil to the Airport Express on the same network, even when the network is WPA-2 Personal (TKIP+AES) protected (I've seen other postings where WPA has been an issue, WEP has not, but in my case, this is not an issue). Ditto with my iPad2.
    Thanks for your help!

I have the same problem with Windows 7 64bit. ITune can see AE and stream Music well. Airfoil, TuneBlade (airplay soft) can also see AE but can't connect and stream music. I ' ve already tried to setup firewall Exception list, even turning off firewall off both windows and antivirus but still got the same problem with the message 'Airfoil was unable to connect to the remote speaker " ... 's Airport Express". Please check the firewall on the computer where " ...'s Airport Express" is running and try again'. Any help would be appreciated !.

  • IOS App 8.1.5 Remote Desktop can't connect to Windows 7 Pro after upgrade. Error 0x00000507

Nothing has changed between my network, Windows 7 computer or my iPad besides the upgrade of the ios app software to 8.1.5.  Did not used to have any issues connecting but now when I try to connect, I get the above error when logging in.
I have tried reinstalling the ios app with no success and also confirmed I can still remote desktop to the PC from another PC with the credentials I've always been using.
I've also tried explicitly including the domain when entering the username with no luck.  Looked through my Windows 7 event logs and can't find any more information on what this error means.
Has anyone seen anything similar or have any ideas what I can do to troubleshoot? Thanks!

    Hi,
    I have a same problem.
Although RD Client 8.1.4 worked great, now I cannot connect to Windows 7 Professional computer from my iPhone 5 (iOS 6.1.4) since the latest update.
Same as Twiggles, when I try to log in (just after entering username and password), the app gives me error code 0x507 "Disconnected from server".
Note that I connect to my PC over VPN using Cisco AnyConnect app.
After that, I've tried to connect to my PC in two different ways with same network settings as the above situation.
    1. Use different remote app
I've tested free version of "PocketCloud" from Dell Wyse, and I CAN connect to my PC.
    2. Use different version of iOS
I've tested the latest RD Client 8.1.5 on my another iPhone (5s) with iOS 8.1, and I CAN connect to my PC.
Therefore, I assume our 0x507 is not setting related, but probably some sort of iOS version dependent problem arise from the latest update.
Even though I tried PocketCloud, I believe RD Client is the BEST app for remote desktop for iOS.
I strongly hope this problem will be solved!
    Thanks.

  • Suddenly can't connect to windows server

I suddenly can't connect to the windows server. The username and password is correct, but it says "Connection Failed: Unknown user, incorrect password, or login is disabled. Please retype the name and password or contact the server's administrator." It pings the server as well. My internet and email works fine. The IT guys can't figure it out either, but they are not mac gurus. Connecting via smb comes back with "Could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct" before I even enter login information, if that is helpful information. I also tried connecting through the server alias under the network and its the connetion failed as going through Connnect to Server and entering it as AFP://ipaddress.
Can it be from the 10.4.11 update? It was fine before the update I believe - but I can't recall for sure. I'm a lone mac user in a very pc company, so any mac expert advice would be helpful.
Is just strange since I have no problems connecting to our work email via GroupWise.

Connecting via smb comes back with "Could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct" before I even enter login information, if that is helpful information.
Yes for any previous connection, Macs will send what's in Keychain Access, even if it's wrong, before you get asked... delete that reference in Keychain Access.

  • I can't connect to Windows Server via FTP

I've been using FTP for about 13 years and it works fine on Apache servers but can't connect to a windows Server via my Fetch FTP program. The site owner sent me a screenshot and copied/pasted the password so I know I have the info correct. It is still giving me errors.
Is there a special method to connect to Windows server via FTP?

    Hi Lorel,
    Try FileZilla...
