Can't connect to wireless after Tiger upgrade

I have a Titanium Powerbook. I was able to easily connect to a wireless network when I used OS 10.1 (just selected network, put in password and was immediately connected).
I upgraded recently to Tiger and it detects the network, I put in my password, and it will connect for a second. Internet connect will say "Connected to 2WIRE_, Getting status" and the airport symbol in the menu bar will be black. Then it immediately switches to "Not associated with any network. Status not available" and the airport symbol is grey. I know it is connected for a little bit, because the widgits can update, but it doesn't stay connected long enough to use the internet. Other people using this network are not having a problem. What's the deal? Any ideas?

Thanks for the reply. The owner of the router assured me that another computer with Tiger has been able to connect to it just fine before, so this doesn't appear to be the problem.
I also was having problems with my computer not recognizing that there were CDs in it. So I restarted in OS 9, then reinstalled OS 10.4. This solved the CD problem, but not the connection problem. Sometimes it gives all the numbers in DHCP, so I wrote them all down and then entered them in manually. Now it says my computer is connected to the network, but I still can't get online. I realize I should check the router still, but I doubt that's the problem, since other people in the house can connect.
I'll try trashing the preferences file tonight, like you said.

  • No Network Connectivity on G4 after Tiger upgrade.

    Yes, I know the machine is ancient. It's a Power Mac G4 with dual 1.25Ghz processors. Has a built in Airport card.
    I did a clean install of the Mac OS the machine came with... 10.2. Airport worked fine, was able to get online.
    Then, I did an upgrade to Tiger (10.4). After the upgrade ALL network connectivity is gone, cannot connect via Airport or Ethernet.
    Airport card still shows up in system profiler, and the status icon is next to the time display. However, it is greyed out, and zero networks show up as being available. There are at least 5 networks available on my other Macs.
    Also, Ethernet connection doesnt work either. Again, works fine when plugging the same Ethernet cable into my MacBook...works wonderfully via Ethernet. When connected directly to the Power Mac G4 however, no connectivity. No IP address at all. I've even tried doing a manual IP address, to no avail.
    PLEASE HELP!!

    Hi again, apply this...
    The combo update for PowerPC-based Macs...

    Does that do anything?

  • Can't connect to wireless after pacman -Syu

    There are loads of wireless related questions on this forum and I'm sorry I have to add to them but I've had a look and couldn't find any posts similar to this issue so I'd thought I post this thread.
    I pacman'd ealier to update my laptop, installing the new kernel, netcfg and the rt2500 drivers for the new kernel. But now I can't connect to my router wirelessly. If I'm reading the log right, it seems to be authenticating and associating with the router, but then disconnects by itself. Here is the relevent part of everything.log

    Can anyone shed some light on this? It's quite annoying! Thanks!

    It's a WPA network, running off a Thomson TG585v7.
    /etc/network.d/networkwpa :
    CONNECTION="wireless"
    DESCRIPTION="Home Network"
    INTERFACE=wlan0
    SCAN="yes"
    SECURITY="wpa"
    ESSID="MYNETWORK"
    KEY="MYKEY"
    IP="dhcp"
    TIMEOUT=20
    Relevent /etc/rc.conf :
    INTERFACES=(lo)
    NETWORKS=(ethernet networkwpa)
    gateway="default gw 192.168.0.1"
    ROUTES=(!gateway)
    If I do try to connect it just gives the following error and logs what I put in my previous post.
    [steve@mario ~]$ sudo netcfg networkwpa
    :: networkwpa up - Wireless association failed.
    As I said, everything was working fine until I updated.

  • WRT350N problem connecting to wireless after firware upgrade to 1.04.4

    I have a WRT350N which has been in service for some time without any real trouble. I connect to it with a variety of laptops off and on and a ps3. Recently, my wife's laptop began disconnecting randomly and frequently. I repaired her windows after the usual tricks didn't help. After the repair, her problem was gone for a few weeks, then returned. It is a Dell Lattitude 110L and I suspect the wireless device in it is giving up. But I thought I would see if there were any firmware upgrades for my router, in case there was help for the situation that way. I was running 1.03.8 and 1.04.4 was available. So I downloaded and installed the upgrade.
    My wired network continued to function just fine. But now none of my laptops or the ps3 could connect to the wireless. They saw the SSID being broadcast. They did key exchange. They requested a dhcp address, and then the connectionstopped being answered by the WRT350N. I tried many things. No joy. Decided to contact Cisco support via live chat. They had me change a number of settings for thresholds and channels and such with no effect. While doing this, I happened to notice that wireless QoS was disabled and the help says that by default it should be enabled. I have never changed this setting myself. In desperation, I put all the setting which Cisco had me mess with back to their defaults (where they were before Shaharyiar tried to help me) and I tried setting wireless QoS to enabled. Bingo. All my laptops and the ps3 now connect again. I suggested to the agent that they log this as a bug in the upgrade or the firmware. I got the impression that might not be followed up on, so I am posting my story here in the hopes it may prove helpful to others.

    If you have other devices on your network that support Wireless QoS, select Enabled. Otherwise, keep the default, Disabled.
    Thanks for the information. Your post will definitely help other users.

  • Windows XP on MacBook Pro - Can't connect to wireless after bootcamp, why?

    1)I just bought MacBook Pro, just did a boot camp with windows xp. With Windows xp installed, it can't detect wireless network. What went wrong?
    2)When setting the boot camp, do i need to have the boot camp driver? Why?
    3)Can Windows xp on Macbook pro use the same built-in modem, or do i need to get a modem/ adaptor for windows on mac, so the wireless (on window xp on mac) would be able to work.

    Did you install Apple's bootcamp drivers after you installed Windows? You should be able to accomplish that by booting into Windows and then inserting the installation disc that came with your MacBook Pro. Without Apple's drivers, Windows may not know how to use the wireless circuitry on your Mac.

    With the proper drivers Windows should be able to use the wireless equipment that came with your Mac.

    Upgraded to ios6 on my factory unlocked 4S while connected to iTunes. It did the update perfectly also on the phone, but now when I connect to my iTunes it just keeps rebooting the phone. Any solutions? Thanks

    I'm having the same issue.   Resetting all settings doesn't help.  I had to turn off wifi sync to keep it from rebooting constantly even when not connected.

    Hi mshields1162,
    Great question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
    First, you may want to choose to have the sidebar displayed for familiarity:
    iTunes 11: Frequently used features
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5649
    Afterwards, your device should be displayed if connected:
    We'll want to click on it, and choose the Music tab at the top. Let's make sure "Sync Music" is checked:
    Afterwards, you'll have the option to sync either the entire music library (for your first iPod), or "Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres" (for the secondary device). Upon selecting this option, four larger option boxes will appear allowing you to pick and choose what content will be synced. For audiobooks, you may need to do the above in the "Books" section. For a visual instruction on how to do this, see the following:
    iTunes 10: Sync to your iPod

    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • How can i connect a Wireless Keyboard and a Trust mouse with a brand new Mac mini?

    How can i connect a Wireless Keyboard and a Trust mouse to a brand new Mac mini?

    Go to the Bluetooth icon on the menu bar and select "Set Up Bluetooth Device". Follow the wizard.
    Alternatively, if you haven't yet unboxed and setup the Mini, you can pair the keyboard to the Mini (and possibly the mouse). However, I would set up with a USB keyboard and mouse and pair the Bluetooth devices afterwards.

  • Can I connect to wireless networks far away?

    How do I connect to wireless networks further away?
    Is there a way I can improve my laptops wireless range so I can connect to wireless networks further away?

    Hi!
    You can only connect to wireless networks that the notebook recognizes. If the notebook recognizes a wireless network, you can connect to them. If it doesnt recognize (because it is further away) you can not connect.
    Furthermore you can not improve the wireless range from the laptop. You can do this on a WLAN router, not on the notebook.
    Bye
