Can't connect wireless print server

I've been pulling my hair out trying to configure a D Link DPR-1260 wireless print server to work with a D Link wireless router on my system. I know I probably should have used Airport devices but then again I've always had trouble getting those things to talk to each other, too. Must be bad wifi karma or something. I've posted at the D Link site as well but they don't have many Mac users who can help with the setup. Anyone got a tip?

Hi Bennyk-
What is the specific problem?

  • Can't connect wireless printer to wired PC in wireless/wired network

We have HP Officejet 6500A Plus (E710n-z) printer
Wireless router with 4 ethernet connections (SAGEMCOM 2864) - some pcs connect wirelessly and we have 3 connected via ethernet (network has several printers, 2 netbooks, IPad, 2 laptops and 4PCs currently configured - but with 5 active users it changes frequently)
Am able to connect printer to wireless PCs, laptops, etc - but cannot connect to wired PCs (running windows XP-home version)
I'd like to avoid forcing IP address for printer (everything else is automatic)  - Is there another workaround?
I do have another printer connected wirelessly to both wireless and wired PCs
Install / troubleshooting software assumes network is either all wired or all wireless
I don't mind using fixed IP address for install, but prefer not to use for ongoing connections
    Thanks for your help

    Hi Nancy,
Have you tried running the HP Netwrok Diagnostic Utility, which is available at www.hp.com/go/tools?  I no longer have a WinXP machine so I can't verify that it works on WinXP but, assuming it does, it could help you diagnose the problem.
Regarding using a static IP address, it is a really good idea (especially since it sounds like you know how to assign one to your printer).  It even helps to have a static IP once things are up-and-running because it generally prevents your PC's from losing contact with the printer.

  • Unable to connect wireless print server while using wireless modem to ISP

Unable to connect an HP Laserjet 1320 thru the JetDirect ew2400 External Print Server to an imac G5 that uses the 2WIRE352 modem for ISP access thru ATT. Either the ISP is connected and works, or the printer works but no internet access. HP (after 1hr 15 min.) said I need to change/access the "infrastructure" in the OSX. Is that correct? & if so, how do I do this? Do I need to hire Apple Tech Support to do this? How much will that cost. I'm ready to send the Print Server back to HP for a refund.

I would post your issue in the Printing & Faxing forum area. More chance for some of the gurus like Greg Sahli to respond.

  • Can't connect to wireless print server

    Hi
Have just got a new MacBook, am in the process of moving over from Windows but I can't get my Kyocera FS-1010 printer working via its wireless print server (Kyocera SB-70).
The printer works fine via USB cable but says its busy when using ipp.
Have tried to ping the print server but it times out.
Everything works with the Windows PCs on the same Lan.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Baz

    Happy New Year Barry,
Thanks for the info. With the Mac you could use the same settings XP uses. The queue is to add the 'ipp' for the Queue name and don't worry about the 631 port - this will happen when you select IPP.
So far clarity, the settings you need after you select IP > IPP are:
    Address: 192.168.11.2
    Queue: ipp
Name & Location are free text so whatever you want
Print Using: The Kyocera driver - but you could also try Generic PCL Laser if the printer supports PCL. Some vendors drivers don't work that well with print servers, although I would expect that if Kyocera make the print server then their Mac driver should work, but you may want to check as possibly only the Windows driver works when networked.
However until you can get a response from the print server with the Ping then you won't get very far with the above. Seems unusual you can ping XP PCs and vice versa and they can print fine. Pings can be blocked by firewalls although the default software firewall in Mac will allow you to ping. Are you using any other anti whatever software on the Mac that could block the ping?

  • CM1015 on wireless print server; ToolboxFX Can't access

(This is crossposted at the Business Support forum as well).
I have the CM1015 connected via a Netgear WGPS606 wireless print server. Using the Netgear installation util, the IP connection and printing to it work fine. Success there.
However, ToolboxFX can't access the printer, taking a v-e-r-y- long time to respond before throwing an error msg: The server could not find the request. (404) ...Please cycle power bla bla... Of course cycling power doesn't help.
    The topic at
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=115&prodSeriesId=1846080&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=1846080&objectID=c00785211
seems almost relevant, but not really, as the only IP I have is for the print server, not the CM1015 itself. Needless to say, scan-to-remote computer does not work. Disabling the OS firewall does not solve the problem.
Anybody run across a solution for what should be a common problem?
The drift from other frustrated users here seems to be that using a CM1017 connected to a wireless router might get you there. But, like other midrange printers (eg certain Canons), the CM1015 was never really meant to be networked. HP seem mute on the subject...

I opted to use ".com.na" in which case the Internal Domain Name and Internet Website
    now has the same name.
This ends up with a split-DNS stup for internal and external resolution which requires extra administration tasks and attention from the administrators.
When attempting to open the extarnal website eg. "www.company.com.na" from a client PC within the internal "company.com.na" Domain, I keep getting error "403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view
this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied."
I should also mention, the website is hosted by an ISP and not locally.
I added a "www" Host record in the Forward Lookup Zone, I have added the url and ip address to the Hosts file on a client pc (Windows 7) and even tried setting up Split-Brains DNS. Nothing seems to work.
Running a Tracert takes me to the correct public ip address of the website, but I keep getting this 403 error.
This means that you are able to reach the Website but it is responding with the access denied error message. That should be checked on the middleware level so if this is IIS running then I would recommend asking them in IIS forum: http://forums.iis.net/
If this is a Website that is completely managed by your ISP then I would recommend checking with them.

  • I have a HP2101nw wireless print server and it will not connect to my router.

The status of my wireless print server always says it is not connected and idle on both my laptops.  I have tried to connect through the advanced settings but it does not find my router.  I have tried to connect manually but it fails.  Could a firewall be blocking it?  My router works fine on the internet for both laptops.  Any ideas?

If other wireless devices are connecting OK, you know that the AirPort Express is operating correctly since all devices are receiving the same wireless signal from the Express.
It's possible, but extremely unlikely that there will be other Samsung phone users on an Apple support forum, so I would suggest that you check with Samsung support to reset the Samsung phone back to default wireless settings so you can set up a new connection again.

  • HP webservices tab not available when using HP Jetdirect 2700w wireless print server

I recently bought HP Laserjet Enterprise 500 m551 dn color laser printer with HP jetdirect 2700w wireless print server ( one day old at this time).
I was able to configure the device and enable/ use eprint services using the embedded server with a wired connection.
However when I attach a the mentioned wireless print server, the "Webservices" tab disappears from the configuration website, the printer reports that the eprint services are not enabled and ofcourse hp eprint or google cloud print do not work. The printer appears offline at eprintcenter. Everything else works fine.
On the product website for the wireless server, it clearly states that this is compatible with eprint services.

  • Resolution - Printing HP LaserJet & Linksys Wireless Print Server WPS54GU2

    Hello Guys:
After trying to figure out for 10 days and calling HP, Applet and Linksys support, i finally am able to print to my printer.
I have iMac running Tiger 10.4.8. I have a HP LaserJet 1012 Printer connected in a USB Port to the Wireless Print Server WPS54GU2. This is what I did to get it working.
    First install the following drivers:
    1) Go to http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/hpijs/ and download hpijs-foomatic-2.0.2.ppc.dmg and espgs-7.07.1.ppc.dmg file. Install hpijs first and espgs second.
    2) After that Go to Server Preferences, Double click on Print/Fax.
    3) Click on the "+" sign, select Line Printer Daemon - LPD
    4) In the Address field, enter the IP address of your print server.
    5) In the Queue name (This is very important). I used L2 for USB. You can try P1, L1 as well. Not sure how you have connected to the print server. For me L2 worked. I had tried using L1 and P1 and it didn't work for me.
    6) The Name field should automatically be populated.
    7) In the Print Using, select HP and then select "HP LaserJet 1012 Foomatic/hpijs" as the printer or whatever driver you have for your printer.
    8) Click on Add
And now open up text edit or something and you should be able to print.
let me know if there are any questions.

Try Repairing permissions (Disk Utility). Then restart, then add again.
What do you mean by the printer doesn't show up - the driver (print using:)?
You can try the generic HP Photosmart P1100 Gimp-Print driver that comes in OS X.

  • Airport Express questions on wireless print serving

I have a wireless network setup using a linksys router and thinking about using an Airport Express as a wireless print server in another room. I currently have a Canon MP500, 2 wired PCs connected to the router and 2 wireless laptops one Windows and an iBook. Would the Airport Express connect to my existing wireless network to act as a wireless print server for my network?
    Thank you
PCs running Windows XP Pro and iBook is running OS X Tiger

Hi, does anyone know how to change the port setting on Windows XP Pro. I recently purchased an Airport extreme and the network is working great, however when I tried to set up the printer the documentation left some key peices of information out.
I had followed the step for installing a printer, but when I got to the point about specifing the adapter type, the documentation in the manual that came with the Airport skipped over that part. I guessed at the adapter and unfortunatly (and obviously after reading the instructions here http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1008.html) I chose the wrong adapter. Now I want to go back and fix it but I can't figure out how. When I tried to run the add printer wizard again and the port setting wizard it said the port (IP_10.0.1.1) was alread in use and kicked me out of the wizard.
How do I change the settings on the port to the correct settings?
    Thanks

  • How to set up standalone wireless print server

I need step-by-step instructions on to set up a KonicaMinolta bizhub multifunction printer to print wirelessly from various Macs. In other words, it would not be hooked up to the internet or my wireless network. I understand this can be done with an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme. I tried it with a Linksys WPSM54G wireless print server without success. I'd like to try the AirPort Express, but so far haven't been able to get it to work.
How do I configure my AExp to operate as a print server? How should I have it connected when I do the configuration?
How do I find the print server's IP address?
When I plug in the AExp and connect it to the printer via USB, the AExp flashes amber and never turns green (and therefore never connects with the MacBook).
If I successfully set up the print server as a separate network, can I be connected to the printer and my wireless network at the same time? Or do I need to switch back and forth?
If I'm accessing the internet via Ethernet, can I simultaneously access the printer via AirPort?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

How do I configure my AExp to operate as a print server?
The AirPort Express Base Station (AX) or AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) can only operate as a "print" server if the printer is attached to its USB port. Ethernet printers would require their own print server service if connected by Ethernet to either router.
How should I have it connected when I do the configuration?
Neither router would need a WAN port connection as both can provide a stand-alone wireless network. For a USB printer, it would need to be connected to the respective router's USB port.
How do I find the print server's IP address?
This would be the AirPort's LAN IP address. The default is: 10.0.1.1
When I plug in the AExp and connect it to the printer via USB, the AExp flashes amber and never turns green (and therefore never connects with the MacBook).
The flashing amber indicates that the AX has configuration issue. If you temporarily connect your MacBook directly to the AX's Ethernet port, and then, run the AirPort Utility, you can find out what the issue(s) is(are).
If I successfully set up the print server as a separate network, can I be connected to the printer and my wireless network at the same time? Or do I need to switch back and forth?
No, you would have to switch wireless networks. One way around this, is to have the AX configured to "Join a wireless network." This mode was specifically designed to allow the AX to perform as a wireless client and simultaneously provide both print sharing and iTunes streaming to network clients.
If I'm accessing the internet via Ethernet, can I simultaneously access the printer via AirPort?
Potentially, but your computer and the printer will be on separate broadcast domains/subnets.

  • Printing via Belkin Wireless Print Server

I am trying to setup my my mac so that it will print via my belkin wireless print server. I have been able to do this for my windows pc's but not with my mac.
Other threads on this forum have been able to get it working with other printers but I can't seem to make it work.
I'm using a HP Deskjet 6540 on a 802.11g network. The printer is connected to a Belkin Wireless Print Server (F1UP0001). I print when connected via USB but not via wireless. I've installed the HP drivers and the GIMP drivers but that hasnt worked. When I go to install the printer I choose IP Printer and give the ip address of the print server.
Any help would be much appreciated, if you need more infomation just ask.
    Thank You,
    mholmau

Your printer is a non-postscript printer and requires a CUPS driver in order to use the network printing protocols which are part of the CUPS system in OS X. Except for Brother, no manufacturer of non-postscript printers is providing CUPS drivers. The printer model doesn't show up because the OS X driver only works for USB. Apple tried to get around this by including open source Gimp-Print (CUPS) drivers with OS X. But very few HPs are supported. You should try HP Deskjet 900 Series, Gimp-Print driver to see if it "might" work.
For PPC Macs, there is another open source driver set that supports most HPs, including yours:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/hpijs/
But, these aren't Universal binaries, so they don't work on Intel Macs. The source code is available, and I think it will readily compile on your Mac, but I don't have an Intel Mac to try that on.
Next issue - print server setup. We don't have auto-setup software, so we have to read the manual closely and decide which protocol to use. If it's IPP (=internet printing protocol, not IP printing) or LPR/LPD, you need to find the print server's queue name (sometimes called port name), and enter that in Add printer dialog near IP address.
There are other ways to do network printing. The Airport Express print server from Apple allows you to use the USB driver because it uses Airport-Bonjour software to redirect USB output, instead of using standard protocols.
    Hope this helps.

  • HP PSC 1315, Brother HL-2040 & D-Link DPG321 wireless print server

Hi all...I've had the D-Link wireless print server for awhile, and originally had an ancient Samsung attached to it.
Now though, the old Samsung printer is gone and I'm using the print server in my office with my new Brother HL-2040, which connected to my Mac effortlessly...super easy.
The problem comes in hooking up my HP PSC 1315 AIO to the wireless print server's second port. I've read a ton of postings in the last couple of days indicating the HP driver won't support this, so I downloaded the hpijs driver.
The Brother printer is hooked up to queue 1 (ps-5c714d-u1) per our documentation, and I'm trying to get the HP hooked up to queue 2 (ps-5c714d-u2), but absolutely nothing will print to it. One note - I'm not getting any error messages. When I pull up the printer to view the jobs, it looks like it's completed printing, so I'm not sure if it's stuck somewhere in the print server or what.
The HP works fine when connected directly via USB to my MacBook Pro - so the issue isn't with the printer itself or the cabling.
We CAN however, manage to print to the HP from our Windows XP desktop in the other room, interestingly enough.
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.9)

No, I didn't. Originally when I was doing all my research, I thought I only had to download that if I had Mac OS 10.2 or below...in retrospect now I'm not sure why I thought that.
I've now downloaded the file though, and have no idea what to do with it. In reading all of the installation info, I'm thinking it might just be easier to walk over to the printer and plug it into the USB port of my MacBook when I need to use it!
Thanks for the suggestion...not sure I have the constitution to keep fighting the good fight on this.

  • Wireless Print Server and Macintosh

    Hello:
I am using a Linksys Wireless Print Server WPS54GU2. I have a HP LaserJet 1012 printer hooked up to it. i have a iMac and a Dell Windows PC. From the dell Windows PC, the wireless printing is working fine to the laserjet, however i just bought my mac and i am trying to setup the printing but it is not working.
When i connect the printer directly to the mac through USB, it prints fine. However when I connect to through the print server wirelessly, i can see the printer through Applettalk and it does a test print (but it prints garbage). The problem that i see is that the drivers for HP LaserJet 1012 are not listed under the HP Model. So not sure what i need to do.
Also, how do i print to a printer which is shared by a Windows machine?
    Has anyone got any direction?
    Thanks

HP wrote the OS X driver so that it ONLY works with USB. To get network printing, install the hpijs and ESP ghostscript driver "set:"
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/hpijs/
Add the printer via LPD or IPP (look through server manual), and be sure to enter the server's queue name, L1 or P1.

  • Using a wireless print server... help!

Hi. I have a G5 on a wireless network using a LinkSys WRT-54G router. I just got a wireless print server (D-Link DPR-1260) and want to network my HP 6110xi All-in-one printer. 6110 drivers are installed, and printer previously worked fine when connected directly to computer via USB port.
Now, I want to share it over the wireless network. I believe I have the print server correctly configured... just not sure how to configure my G5 to print across the network to this printer. How do I set it up?
    Particulars:
    - LinkSys WRT-54G, 802.11g wireless router, firmware v4.20.7 (192.168.0.1)
    - D-Link DPR-1260, wireless print server, firmware v1.00 (192.168.0.10, static)
    - HP 6110xi All in One, latest drivers from HP downloaded and installed.
    - iMac G5, (192.168.0.100, dynamic IP)

The iMac has built-in Bonjour technology. So use that. If your windows PC has XP you can download Bonjour for that one as well and use that to share your printer.
What you can do is use the Airport Express and connect it to a USB printer. Make sure that it is compatible printer.

  • Linksys Wireless Print Server & HP Printer

Does anyone know if I can use my Linksys wireless print server which is attached to my HP All-in-One Inkjet printer for printing on my MacBook Pro? When I go to add a printer, nothing is detected - neither the HP or the Print Server.

I am facing the same problem too, except that my printer is a CANON. I can't seem to see the printer over the wireless network. However, when I connect the printer hardwired to my MBP, everything works fine and I am able to print normally.
