Can't connect Yamaha P-35 to Logic Pro X

Hello.
I am running an iMac with OS X Mavericks (10.9.2), 2.9 GHz Intel Core i5 Processor with 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory.
I am using Logic Pro X and am trying to get my Yamaha P-35 Digital Piano to act as a Midi controller. I have a USB to MIDI adapter cable, consisting of both an In and Out 5-pin Midi cable running through to a USB plug. I have my USB plugged into my iMac and the MIDI plugs in my piano. There are 3 lights on the adapter cable, Midi, USB and one with a musical note above. Only the USB light is lit up.
My aim to use the piano as a controller, to play Logic Software instruments with but Logic seems to not be aware of the piano being plugged in. I am looked on Yamaha's drivers page also and there is not one for this device, only older models.
Any help would be appreciated.

Try reversing the in and out on the keyboard end.... if you havent tried that already.... as these cheap cables sometimes are mislabelled... and given how you are using the keyboard, you only need the out from the keyboard going to the in on the cable...
Other than that, yes, almost all of the cheap midi usb cables have the same issues.. Some work... some work some of the time... and more often some don't... not reliably at least..even if they are the same brand/model... There is no way to know for sure until you try them out.
The real solution is to get yourself a decent midi interface or better still, an Audio/Midi interface like a Motu for example... which has stable, reliable drivers... and a build quality using decent components.  Using a cheap interface or cable with a Mac... is akin to putting $50 tires on a $300k Ferrari... They kind of work but the end result isn't real driving..... and you are degrading the Ferrari's performance down to that of a 15K family sedan

  • Can I connect every USB-Audiointerface with Logic Pro?

    Hello there,
please forgive me, if my english isn't so well.
So, my "problem": I actually informated me over Logic Pro X, and by the provided Audiointerfaces, I didn't saw my Audiointerface.
But - Can I simply connect a USB-Audiointerface with Logic Pro?
    So, hope you understand me,
Best wishes, "toasbrot_55" (sorry for that name, i don't know when I did chosen this name)

All Mac OS compatible audio interfaces work with Logic, and almost all USB interfaces are Mac compatible. So it depends on which interface you have (make and model), and which Mac OS version you use.

  • Help needed in connecting two midi keyboards to Logic Pro.

Hey there, I would like to connect two midi keyboards to Logic Pro and enable each keyboard to trigger separate software instruments each. For example, one keyboard has guitar and the other has strings.
I realise this must have something to do with midi channels or ports, however my knowledge is limited.
At current, I just have the two keyboards connected via usb straight to the computer. Is it possible I need a multi input or output interface, so that Logic can recognise different ports, or channels? Perhaps there is simply something I need to do in Logic itself? the keyboards are basic M-Audio midi controllers, just a usb port - thats it, no other connections. Any help would be great, Brad.

    Hey Brad,
yes you need also to change the out midi of the keyboards.
in my case I have the Keysation 61 es, it's done this way:
    "Channel
MIDI data from the keyboard can be sent on any of 16 MIDI Channels. However, certain MIDI devices and MIDI software applications require
the keyboard to send data on a specified channel. If this is the case, you can change the channel the data is sent using the following
    method:
< Press the Advanced Functions button to engage Edit Mode.
< Press one of the 16 Channel keys from D1 to E3, according to the Channel that you need.
For example, if a device specifies that you need to send data on Channel 10, press the Advanced Functions button, and then key F2 to select
    Channel 10.
The Channel can also be assigned to the Octave “+” and “-” buttons. Once assigned, pressing “+” or “-” will increase or decrease the channel
incrementally. When Channel 16 is reached and “+” is pressed, Channel 1 will be selected. If the Octave “+” and “-” keys are selected to vary
the Channel, the lights above the buttons will not change, since it is not possible to have a Channel with a negative value. Pressing both the
“+” and “-” buttons together will recall Channel 1."
Can you please tell me what keyboards do you have?
this is for two players having a go on completely 2 different parts.
In case you want to record 2 tracks with the same content say a piano and a pad,
all you need to do is open the tracks and rec enable both and you have piano pad.
Anyway I believe you need to have two separate sounds for two players?
Give us some more input of what you want, there must have one or more solutions to what you need.
    Cheers mate,
    Jorge

  • Can't create a new project in Logic pro . Goes straight to a midi file. Do I shut something down before trying to create a new project

Can't create a new project in Logic pro . Goes straight to a midi file. Do I shut something down before trying to create a new project?

When you open Logic, close the project that its automatically brought up (see CCT's answer above, which explains how you can change that behaviour, if you like - I usually want to listen to the last thing I was doing, but its your choice - and then File>New.
So, yeah, you do have to close the currently loaded project first.

  • Where can I find the serial number for LOGIC PRO from the AppStore

    Please help me:
Where can I find the serial number for LOGIC PRO from the AppStore?
I bought and downloaded the application, now it asks me for the serial number but I didn't not receive it or can find it.

My understanding is that if it was purchased throught the App Store, then there is no requirement for a serial number. At which point does it ask you for the serial?

I am a student, and I purchased Logic Pro 9 nine or ten months ago, can I download a free upgrade to Logic Pro X? It seems I should be able to.
If not, how much would it cost me? Does anybody know?
    Thank you,

Thank you QTKirk... do you happen to know if Apple has a student discount for Logic Pro X? It seems to me I received one on Logic Pro 9... Getting old, could be wrong about that.

If you still have the receipt or other proof of purchase, you can ask Apple to send you the serial. Otherwise, bad luck mate.. Good news is, you can now buy Logic Pro 9 from App Store for just 199 USD

  • How can I use the sounds of the Yamaha Motif XF6 in Logic Pro 9?

I have Logic Pro 9 on my Mac Book. I also have a Yamaha Motif XF 6 synthesizer. Instead of using Logic's software instruments I would like to record the sounds of the Motif directly into Logic.
I have been told that an audio interface is necessary for this. What kind of audio interface would be good for this? Any in particular?
And, once I have obtained the interface, what steps do I need to take to hook up the Motif into Logic to utilize the Motif's sound bank?
Detailed steps would help, as this is new stuff for me.
    Thanks!

Since this is a user forum only, and your questions will take a lot of time to answer you might want to check both the Logic manual and the XF6 manual. The XF6 has possibilities such that you may not need and Audio interface if the Firewire option is present.
Also you have a built in USB MIDI interface as well, you will need to download the Yamaha MIDI driver.
Read Exploring Logic Pro, especially chapter five, you can record your performance via MIDI, edit it and then commit to audio.
    Dig in.

  • Can I control the system output via Logic Pro?

I know how to record system output in Logic Pro (CH 13&14), but in order to do that, the tracks in Logic Pro must be muted to avoid feedback.
What I'm wondering is if I can control overall system output via a track/tracks in Logic Pro. I've got a Plextor PVR set up so that I can watch tv on my Mac, but when I connect my digital cable box to it the volume is down at around a faint -24 dB. I'd like to be able to boost the gain with Logic.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Never mind. I found a cool app called Audio Hijack Pro that works perfectly for this.
