Can't contact server to update os
I cant update my iphone os to the latest version, error message: can't contact server. anyone know how can i fix it? i can do it with another com but not with my imac. i tried deleting and install back itunes but it doesnt work.
If you also have the software disks that came with the computer, you can put in the system disk, boot from that, when you come to the start-up page, there's an item in the menu to re-set the password. From what I've been told, this will work as long as FileVault was not set on the machine.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.

Safari can't find server after update
Safari stopped working after the lastest update. Interestingly enough, every other single browser that I have (Opera, Firefox, and even IE are working fine) - I prefer Safari but even after resetting it - it still won't work. Any ideas?
Interestingly enough, using internet connect after it fails to open seems to suggest a server issue - although after IC is done, it still does not work - and IC shows a yellow button next to the server.

I have an iPhone 4S I've been useing a sever for awhile now. Downloaded new iOS now I'm getting 403 forbidden when trying to look up anything from the server. Regular 3G works. How can I fix so I can use the server?
Update: An Apple rep called me today to update the status of my return. I was told that the replacements for the BLACK iPad 2's was still another 3 weeks out (at least) so they offered me a brand new WHITE 16GB iPad 2. I could have that or continue waiting. I opted to go ahead and accept the offer of a new white one. Worst case scenario if I don't like the white one I have buddy that just bought a 16GB black one that he would be willing to swap it.

Client can not contact WSUS server.
Hello everyone
I have a WSUS 3.0 server (v3.2.7600.226) and 3 test clients.
The WSUS server is on subnet xxx.xx.30.xx
Client1 is on the same subnet as WSUS (no problem receiving updates)
Client2 is on subnet 52(no problem receiving updates)
Client3 is on subnet 25 (can not contact WSUS, therefore does not receive updates)
All the clients are standalone machines, they do not belong to any domain.
What I tried so far with no success:
disabled firewall on server
tried this fixit on the client: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836941/en-us
Stopped wuauclt and bits services, renamed
%windir%/SoftwareDistribution folder, restarted services
Read a number of forum posts and blogs but could not find a solution.
Client3 Facts:
It is a fresh windows 7 installation, no updates have been installed.
Can ping the FQDN and IP address of WSUS server.
Unlike Client1 and 2, Client3 can not visit the ISS7 web page when I enter the FQDN on a browser.
Run checkdiag.exe which reported the following:

Many thanks for your time.Client3 Facts:
It is a fresh windows 7 installation, no updates have been installed.
I'm having an issue with this statement, although I don't think it's a contributing factor. I'm skeptical how a "fresh Win7 installation" can get a v7.6 WUA installed... Win7RTM shipped with v7.4, and Win7SP1 shipped with v7.5 ... so SOMETHING updated this
machine to WUA v7.6!
Unlike Client1 and 2, Client3 can not visit the ISS7 web page when I enter the FQDN on a browser.
This is your key consideration right here. If the browser can't get to the webserver, then the WUA ain't never gonna be able to get to the webservices hosted on that webserver.

HT1688 Activation server can not be reached while updating my iPhone software.
Why is my phone not activating the new 7 software on an iphone 4s.
Here is part of the message I have beengetting...
Activation server can not be reached while updating my iPhone software.Restart the iPhone.
Try another means of reaching the activation server and attempt to activate.
Try connecting to a known-good Wi-Fi network if you're unable to activate using a cellular data connection.
Try connecting to iTunes if you're unable to activate using Wi-Fi.
Restore the iPhone.
If you receive an alert message when you attempt to activate your iPhone, try to place the iPhone in recovery mode and perform a restore. If you're still unable to complete the setup assistant due to an activation error, contact Apple for assistance.

Hi why does my itunes always say "error contacting server" when i update my iPhone 5 (iOs 6.0.2) with the iOs 6.1.3 update?
Hey Tigergirl17,
Thanks for the question. If you haven't already done so, you may want to update iTunes to v11.1 (released on Sept 18th). After updating iTunes, you can then update your iPhone 5 to iOS 7.

Can't connect to software update server
Trying to update our iphones, but keep getting a "Contacting iphone software update server" message that runs forever and eventually says cannot connect. My internet connection is fine. Any thoughts?
I have a similar problem. I took my iMac to an Apple Store to have the guys at the Genius Bar troubleshoot a problem. They checked out my iMac, and suggested I do an Archive and Install when I got home. Result - the problem was fixed! But it wiped out 10.5.1, 10.5.2, and 10.5.3. I'm internet-limited for large downloads, so I returned to the Apple Store with my iMac and asked them if they could download 10.5.1 through 10.5.3, which they did. But now I have tried to download 10.5.4 and I always get this message: "Software Update can't find the update server. Make sure you're connected to the internet, then try again." [I am connected to the internet.]
I ran the Network Diagnostics: Airport, Airport Settings, Network Settings, ISP, and Internet all have the green "dot." But Server has a red "dot" and says Failed (underneath it). I continued with the Network Diagnostics and got this message: "Network Diagnostics was able to connect to the Internet, but not to the server 'lehighvalley.local'. [This is the server for the Apple Store.] This could be caused by problems with the server or an Internet problem between this computer and the server."
Result - I can't download any updates (because the Software Update can't find the update server). Any solutions? Thank you. -
Update hung up on "Contacting the iPhone update server
I got a message that my 5S needs an OS update, so I plugged into iTunes on my PC. For an hour, the update has been hung up on "Contacting the iPhone update server." What gives?
Hello dj003,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your iTunes is stalling when it attempts to contact the iPhone update server. In this situation I would recommend reading over and working through the troubleshooting steps outlined in the attached article.

[nfsd] Server can't contact local portmap, client can!
I'm trying to setup nfsd on my i586 Arch. I've built a custom kernel with NFS v2 and v3 server & client support in it. I've also installed the nfs-utils (v1.0.6-2) package.
/etc/hosts.allow
sshd : all
telnet : 10.0.1., localhost
portmap: 10.0.1., localhost
lockd: 10.0.1., localhost
rquotad: 10.0.1., localhost
mountd: 10.0.1., localhost
statd: 10.0.1., localhost
/etc/hosts.deny
ALL: ALL: DENY
/etc/exports
/var/abs 10.0.1.2(rw,no_root_squash)
To get the NFSd running, I start portmapper with its rc.d-script and then the nfsd-script.
The nfsd-script won't work: it's complaining about portmapper:
portmap: server localhost not responding, timed out
RPC: failed to contact portmap (errno -5).
I made sure portmapper was running, BUT this is the strange part: if I try "rpcinfo -p <serverip>", I get an error (rpcinfo: can't contact portmapper: RPC: Remote system error - Invalid argument). When I run the same command on a client PC in the network, it works fine:
program vers proto port
100000 2 tcp 111 portmapper
100000 2 udp 111 portmapper
I'm stuck.Turns out my question was elementary. WebLogic was using my computer name (instead of IP) in the various configuration files. A search within the domain's folder for files containing "mycomputername" let me locate the areas that needed updating.

I have a hard time understanding why I can't contact support about THEIR problem. I plugged my iPhone into my pc. iTunes came up. It said there was an update available for the phone. I accepted that. Clicked on the "download only" because I didn't have the time to install it at that point. It downloaded but didn't stop. It continued to the 'backing up your iPhone' segment then froze. I waited at least an hour with no change. Finally I unplugged my phone..iTunes wasn't responding.I rebooted my pc then tried the same thing again. Same outcome even though I let it "Back Up" for 7-8 hrs while I slept. Same Story............... iTunes 10.4.0.80 is the software I'm using. When my phone is 'plugged' in what I see on it's face is "Sync in Progress".....for hours!

My iphone contacts are not updating to Icloud or Outlook, I can create a contact in Icloud/Outlook and it will update to my Iphone but I cannot create a contact on my Iphone to have it update in the Cloud/Outlook, I am using Itunes as the bridge. I originally installed the Icloud manager to sync my contacts to Cloud/Outlook, but I did not like the functionality, when I uninstalled the Cloud manager and and installed Itunes I noticed that the none of my contacts in the phone updated to Outlook.
