Can't convert  NEF to RAW

I am trying to convert my NEF files using the DNG converter. When I open the converter and select the folder an error box comes up with:
'The sorce folder does not contain any supported camera raw files'
The files are indeed there, I have used the converter for a few years now and never encountered any problems like this. My camera is and has always been compatable with the software.
Can anyone provide any solutions?

I don't know if your camera was supported in Photoshop CS2. In order to convert to DNG it is first necessary to load the images into ACR and then use the "Save" option to create the DNG files. One other thing you might try is to open the folder of NEF files in Windows Explorer and highlight all of them and drag them onto the DNG Converter icon. That works for me in Windows. I know I doesn't work on the Mac. Anyway, give that a try and see if it works.

  • How can I convert from Modbus raw data to engineering units using a formula?

Within Lookout, I have several Modbus numerical input types that do not have a linear corespondence to the Engineering values they represent.  How can I display these values accurately using a formula to convert from the raw data to an engineering value?

I don't quite understand your reply.  I'm using Lookout 6.0.2, logged in as Administrator, in Edit Mode.  The Modbus object is named RTU06_SAV.  The Active member is 30002 with an alias of SAVfmSMT_RSL.
Following your instructions, I opened Object Explorer and right-clicked on RTU06_SAV.
This opened a menu containing:  Refresh, Cut, Copy, Rename, Delete, Edit connections..., Edit Data Member Configuration, Configure Network Security and Properties.
I assumed that I should select Edit Data Member Configuration, but maybe I'm wrong.
Within Data Member Configuration I can set up Linear Scaling between Raw data and Engineering data.  I know how to do that, but what I need to know is how to convert Raw data to Engineering data using a formula representing a non-linear transformation (such as a converion to a logarithmic value or perhaps a formula derived by fitting the formula to a curve on a calibration chart).
Once I have this my Engineering data can be represented on a control panel as both a numeric value AND as a correctly reading Gauge.  It can also be properly represented on a HyperTrend graph.
    What do you suggest?

  • Can't open NEF (Nikon Raw) photos in CS2

Using CS2 on a Power Mac G5, running 10.5.8 with plenty of ram. Photos taken on a Nikon D700 in Raw format and transferred directly from camera to computer using Nikon Transfer. When I try to open a photo marked NEF in Photoshop's Bridge, I get a message that " Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file".
Next, I downloaded Camera Raw 3.7 from Adobe's website and when I click on the icon in my applications folder, I get that same message : "Could not complete your request..."
The only way I can view and work on my raw photos is to convert them to tiffs or jpegs in my Nikon View NX program; But I want to process them in the raw convertor.
    Help!!
    Bob S

You'll need to covert the NEF to DNG to open in Camera Raw. CS2 will never support the D700.

  • Can't convert Canon CR2 RAW files to photoshop CS2- please help!

I have a Canon EOS Rebel XT and am using Photoshop CS2 and can not open my Raw images. Canon saves the images as a CS2 file. I guess needs converting.. Please Help!!

    Daag Kees,
    >[Kees] DNG converter 4_3_1 don't convert my raw Leica M8- images to digital negatives files that will open in Photoshop CS 8.0.1. (Camera raw 2.0).
Of course not. You need ACR (Camera Raw) version 2.4. Version 2.0 does NOT support DNGs.
After you correctly install ACR 2.4 according to the instructions on the download page and after you relaunch Photoshop, you need to Purge the Cache for each folder.
    >[Michael] Simply run the DNG converter and point it at your M8 raw files and they will be converted to DNG.
Nope. Point the DNG Converter to a folder containing RAW files, not to the raw files themselves. The DNG Converter works on Folders containing raw files, not on individual files.
    >What means "using Bridge" ?
Forget that. It does NOT apply to Photoshop 8.x. In CS3, you can have ACR hosted either by Photoshop or by Bridge. Photoshop 8.x doesn't even have Bridge.

  • Converting NEF (Nikon RAW) to DNG results in error message

I'm trying to convert the NEF (raw) images off my Nikon d90 to DNG to import and work with in PS CS2. Using the DNG Converter tool, having made my settings and pressing "Convert", I get an error for all the 54 files in the selected folder. "An error occurred when the file was analyzed" (roughly translated).  DNG Converter settings: JPEG preview: Medium size Compression: Lossless compression Keep Raw image Do not embed Raw image  I tried with all the different settings though and get the same error message. I was able to convert the images to JPEG with Nikon's native tool, so I thought the NEF files were alright, but it seems something about them is corrupted?  I'm on a one year old Dell Inspiron 1721 with an ATD processor with Vista Home Premium (32bit) and a legal copy of Photoshop CS2.

The DNG converter version was 3.7. I downloaded the version that was listed under Photoshop CS2 here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=39&platform=Windows since that's the version I have.
Tried downloading & installing 5.4 and everything works like a charm.
Sorry for the trouble, it was that list that confused me, thought it wouldn't work with the later version.

  • I can't convert .cr2 canon raw files with DNG converter.

I have a Canon 1000D, and im trying to open RAW files to edit in cs4. Everytime i open it, photoshop says that it doesnt recognise this type of file, but i open my friends RAW file (450D) and it can read it. I have also downloaded DNG converter, and it comes up with this message (first image) but my folder has .cr2 files......im really lost
I have also asked for help on the photoshop forum, but they referred me here...
    Thanks

That file is only 2.7 megabytes.  Raw files are usually larger.  That likely means it's truncated (cut off prematurely).
You haven't selected one of the modes called sRAW (Small Raw) have you?
Like Tai Lao, I was able to extract a JPEG, and the EXIF data for the JPEG seems to be intact:

  • Can I convert a Camera Raw preset to a Lightroom preset?

I have number of presets in Camera Raw that I use in PS compositing. However, I'd like to use some of them in Lightroom now for my photography. Is there a way to convert them? The Camera Raw presets are saved in an .xmp file, while the Lightroom preset have a .lrpreset extension. They have similar information, but the formatting is a bit different (the .xmp looks more like an XML file). Any ideas?

Thanks David, that worked. I had been using Save Image in Camera Raw and didn't know why the .xmp sidecar wasn't being saved. I do wish there was a more automated way to do this, but my searches have come up empty. Lightroom puts a, presumably, unique ID at the beginning of each preset that the Camera Raw versions don't have, and who knows where it's generated from.

  • I use photoshop elements version 11 and just bought a nikon d750. Photoshop elements can't open/read the raw/NEF-file. Does a photoshop elements raw converter exist for Nikon d750 ??? And where can I get it ?

    I use photoshop elements version 11. I just bought a nikon d750. Photoshop elements can't read/open the raw/NEF-file.
Does a raw converter exist for this camera and where can I find it ?
    Thanks for any help.

You need Adobe camera raw version 8.7. Unfortunately your software pre-dates the camera. ACR 8.7 is only compatible with PSE13. But it is possible to download and install the free DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.7
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.7
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Can anyone tell me where I can aquire a Photoshop CS6 Raw converter(nef, not DNG) for my Nikon D600 Camera

Can anyone please tell me where I can aquire a Photoshop CS6 Raw Converter(nef, not dng) for my Nikon D600.
I would also be grateful if you could assist me in telling me how you install the "pluggin" into the suite software?
Any assistance would be most appreciated.
    Regards
    Mark Silk

Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
The Nikon D600 is supported by Camera Raw 7.3 and later which is compatible with CS6.
In CS6, click Help > Updates and your Camera Raw should be updated.
Check the exact version of Camera Raw which you have installed via Help > About Plug-ins > Camera Raw

  • I can't open NEF files of my Nikon D800 in PS CS 5.1 even though I have installed Camera Raw 6.7

I can't open NEF files of my Nikon D800 in PS CS 5.1 even though I have installed Camera Raw 6.7.
    What's the problem?
    Any solutions?
    Thx!

The D800 is listed as needing ACR 6.7/7.1.  That raises a red flag that might indicate that 7.1 is needed.  Since that requires CS6 you can not use that version.  If others confirm you need 7.1 you either have to upgrade or use the DNG converter with latest version, which I think is 8.1.

  • Can't open NEF or convert to DNG from NIkon D3

I have a new Nikon D3. I purchased CS3 sooner than I expected since there were some problems converting or even opening NEF files produced with the Nikon softwares.
Now CS3 tells me that it can't open NEFs. And when I try to convert them to DNGs on import, it says that operation fails.
Is there something elemental here that I am missing? Somewhere in the info I read that CS3 supports the D3. Is there some hidden setting somewhere?
I didn't buy a better camera just to shoot in jpegs. This is a mission critical issue. Any help would be appreciated.

I just bought a new Nikon D5000. I can't open the NEF files in any app(CS 8.0(yeah, I know)/Lightroom 2.3(just downloaded)/Aperture(just downloaded). I can only use Nikon software. What version of CS opens them, why doesn't a brand new version of Lightroom 2.3 do so?
Because Lightroom 2.3 was released BEFORE the Nikon D5000 was ever even announced.  Support has been added for each specific model, and Adobe has to have images from the model in order to provide the support.  As far as your version of Photoshop is concerned, there will never be direct camera raw support for your camera.  As soon as Adobe announces an update that will support the D5000, you will be able to use the DNG converter (after it has been updated) to create Digital negative copies of the raw files from your camera.

  • Iphoto won't import NEF files (RAW) How do I convert to Jpeg?

Iphoto won't download Nikon NEF (RAW) files. Nor will Aperture. Can I convert existing files to Jpeg ?

Iphoto won't download Nikon NEF (RAW) files
The raw support is specific for each camera model. iPhoto and Aperture can import NEF files for many Nikon models, and it will depend on the camera you are using and your MacOS X version, see this list of supported cameras: Apple - Aperture - Technical Specifications - RAW Support
Can I convert existing files to Jpeg ?
Use the software that came with your camera to develope the RAW files, that will give the best results.  Or try the Adobe DNG converter - download it here: Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh

  • Trying to convert NEF photos to JPEG photos can it be done in pse12 and if so how?

trying to convert NEF files to JPEG files in pse12 can it be done and if so how?

    Hi,
Both of those cameras should be supported by PSE 12.
Just open the NEF file in the editor. It will first load the camera raw where you can do some adjustment.
When satisfied, make sure that the bit depth option is set to 8 bits/channel (bottom middle of camera raw window).
Click on Open Image to open the image in the main editor window.
Make any further adjustments you want to and then go to the File menu and select Save As
Change the format to JPEG, change the name if you want to and then click on Save.
You can adjust the quality on the next box (higher quality = larger file)
If you get a message about unsupported file format, it could be that you have use the old Nikon transfer program to copy the images from the card to your hard drive. This is knoow to cause corruption. See the following for a tool to correct the files.

    Good luck

  • How can I convert a large batch of NEFs to JPGs in one step or action?

How can I convert a large batch of NEFs to JPGs in one step or action?  I'm very new to Lightroom and know almost nothing about it, so I need to know step-by-step.  I've seen online advise about exporting but I don't know what that means - export from where to where?  Can anyone help me?  Thanks!

I suggest you take a little time to watch some tutorials. If you are that new to Lightroom that you don't understand what export means then it would probably be a good idea for you to get some other information as well. If you don't I think you'll find Lightroom can be very confusing. You haven't indicated what version of Lightroom you are using. The link I'm providing you is a series of getting started videos for Lightroom 5. And just about everything in this series will apply to other versions. You will note that there is one video devoted exclusively to exporting images. But I think you really need to watch the whole series.
