Can't convert to flv on intel MacBook

I have Flash Studio 8 and Final Cut Express. I can convert to flv on my old Mac Mini but not on my intel Mac Book. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, but that page doesn't give any advice other than to check the box "open as Rosetta" in the "get info" window of Quicktime, which I've already confirmed doesn't work, that is, the flv option still doesn't appear in the compression options box in FCE. I'm back to square 1.

  • Can I install OS 9 on Intel MacBook?

Hello there. I have an Intel MacBook running Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.1 (it's about 8 or 9 months old). As much as I love OS X, I miss the old classic environment and the style of the older OS versions, and I find myself feeling nostalgic (I also have a bunch of older software that I can't otherwise play, given that the Classic Environment is not supported on Intel Macs). If I were to purchase Mac OS version 9, is it possible to partition my hard drive and install Mac OS 9 on that partition? I would assume that this could be done, but can anyone tell me how to do it, or can anyone offer any links that provide good instructions on how this can be done? I've partitioned my hard drive with Boot Camp for installing Windows XP on my Mac, but I don't really have any experience other than that with partitioning hard drives or any idea how to do it, not to mention how to install an OS on it once it's partitioned. Any help in this direction will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Yes, OS 9 is PPC architecture only. The only way I can think of that you could possibly run it would be to download PearPC (A PPC architecture emulator-http://pearpc.sourceforge.net/) off of Windows (which is officially unsupported on Apple machines to begin with), and then attempt to run OS 9 off of PearPC.
The program is rather slow, and as you can see, the process is really quite time consuming, illogical (three different systems, one running in emulation), and definitely not worth the end result.

  • Can't convert to FLV format like I used to

I have a QuickTime Pro license and I am up-to-date. I used to be able to convert an avi file to flv format for use in Adobe Flash. Now I get an error saying "Wildform Flix Exporter encountered a problem. This version of Flix Exporter is not licensed to run under the current application." What's up with that? How do I now convert to FLV format? Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is the primary reason I upgraded to QuickTime Pro in the first place. Plus, I find trying to get to the right place to even ask this question to be extremely time consuming and frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

QuickTime Pro has never exported to Flash video without third party software.
Seems like your "Flix Exporter" ( http://www.on2.com/index.php?316 ) is that third party application.

I want to remove the monitor from my 17" Macbook Pro 2008 to use as an external for my Macbook Pro 15" 2012. How can I convert lvds to Thunderbolt and power the monitor?

It's almost impossible.  The new iMacs have a Target Display Mode, but it's built to do that.  Without ripping your screen out, finding an acceptable power supply, frame, and whatever electronics to convert a Thunderbolt signal to the screen, the cost will be much larger than buying a cheaper HiDef monitor that runs with an HDMI to Thunderbolt cable to your MacBook 15.  In fact, you can sell your 17" MBP for a lot of money, unless it's broken or something, buying you a really sweet monitor.
By the way, I found your answer by searching this forum.  I would suggest using the search function here in the futuere.

  • How can I convert an .m1v file for my MacBook to be able to play it?

    Hi!
How can I convert an .m1v file for my MacBook to be able to play it?
I tried numerous apps from the app store, but they failed
    Thanks!

    Hello:
Rather than try to buy a box, I suggest you take the computer to a FedEx or UPS store.  They will wrap and safely package the device for a reasonable cost (I have shipped two iMacs this way).

  • How can I convert MPEG files (stored on a PC) to use in iMovie on my Macbook Pro?

How can I convert MPEG files (stored on a PC) to use in iMovie on my Macbook Pro?

Get a free app called MPEG Streamclip.
    Available here.
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
Drag your clip or clips into MPEG Streamclip. Then use FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME to export the clips in Apple Intermediate Codec.
Sometimes, MPEG2 clips also require that you install the Apple QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component. MPEG Streamclip will tell you if you need this. This is available from Apple for $20.

How can I convert my Open Source document files into Word document files? I cannot download Pages since my Macbook Air does not have the most recent software. I downloaded open office to my mac to try and save money. It worked well for a while. Now I get this pop-up message that asks me to "Reopen" and when I select the option, nothing happens. I cannot save my documents anymore and I cannot convert them to word. Help!

You have 17 options to save as in Open Office, one of which is .doc  files,  yes it needs to be saved manually.
You may be able to default to DOC, but have not tried same.
Since Open Office is 99% same as Word, I use it, or Word, either one.  Open Office is a bit less buggy than Word 11'

  • I have a powerbook G4 with macosx10.5.8 (as far as I know the latest possible OS with powerPC). Can I use Time Machine to restore my data on an Intel Macbook?

I have a powerbook G4 with macosx10.5.8 (as far as I know the latest possible OS with powerPC). Can I use Time Machine to restore my data on an Intel Macbook?

Well the newer TimeMachine model as stated in current Support pages isn't directly compatible on OS X 10.5 now, as noted in above link provided.
What OS X does your newer MacBook have running in it? (Not linux?)
With the current setup you have there may be a way -among other details in the support page- to do the migration of data from Mac, including a subnote on Time Machine, in a section below the main article with triangle by it,  from links here:
•OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mavericks 10.9:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5872
•OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mountain Lion 10.8 and Earlier:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4889
In the support articles there are various troubleshooting and help items about the technology, some data back some time and whatever still stands would be there. Some archives are no longer current and say so.
Perhaps someoone still using older PPC Macs and Leopard 10.5, will say how to backup into a G4 PowerBook, from a Time Machine.
Unless the TimeMachine backup from the older PPC G4 PowerBook is used in the migration process of transferring personal account files from there to a new MacBook running (?) OS X. This probably could be done. You may be able to access older libraries, such as iPhoto, iTunes, etc and import them from the archive, to a newer Intel-based MacBook.
    Sorry for any confusion.
I'll more carefully reply in the future.
    Good luck & happy computing!

You will need an adopter to import the video/audio signal into the Mac

Hey, I'm running 10.6.8 on my intel MacBook Pro 17. Can I upgrade to a more recent OS?

Intel Core 2 Duo is a older machine, your taking a risk with a slow machine and your presently installed PPC based software will no longer work.
    Look before you leap.
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
If a firmware update bricks your machine out of AppleCare, then your paying for the fix or a new machine.
IMMO a 3+ year old machine should remain on whatever is stable, take the risk on a newer machine.
10.7 killed my 4 year old 15", was worth $700 at the time. And Apple just basically said "too bad."

  • Quicktime playing white or black screen on Intel MacBook

Please Please Help! Am I the only person who continues to have trouble with Quicktime. I edit in FCP 6.0.5 and often deliver films as .mov or other codecs such as .flv which often means exporting as .mov as a first step. Working with three Macs (as detailed below), cutting on Powermac, running codec on G4 to free up Powermac and taking .mov films to show clients on the Intel MacBook or sending disks with .mov or mpeg files. So often I end up not being able to show the films, or worse the client is sitting in their office wondering why it looks like I have sent a disk with nothing on! (there was stuff on it). The most common problem being sound but no picture, either a white, or just recently a black screen! I do get the the ‘Unsupported Codec’ - ‘Missing Component’ error and end up on the useless component page at Apple. I have not once installed anything on that page that has helped fix a problem!
The bizarre problem is I can play any of the Quicktime films on both G4 and Powermac but not on Intel MacBook???? G4 doesn’t have FCP so as with MacBook icons default to Quicktime icons but as would make sense icons on the Powermac which is FCP installed show as FCP icons.
I have tried opening the FCP .mov films in Quicktime (buy the way Quicktime Pro 7.6 (472) is installed on all three machines) and exporting as Quicktime movies hoping it removes any FCP data or codec information, but this doesn’t work either? The film will still not play on the MacBook.
This problem seems to happen around upgrades..? is this a red herring? Is anyone else getting really VERY frustrated by the ongoing flaky Quicktime behaviour. I have to use Apples codec because I use FCP professionally but it often makes me look like an amateur. I’ll try any possible fixes anyone has. Thanks very much in advance!
    INFO for the quicktime film I have been having this latest problem with;

    Data Rate - 26.55 mbits/s

    G4, OS10.4.11, 800mhz, 1gb memory, Quicktime Pro 7.6 (472), Plugin DivX, Plugin Flip4Mac
MacBook Intel Duo, OS10.5.6, 1.83ghz, 1gb memory, Quicktime Pro 7.6 (472), Plugin Perian 1.1.3, Plugin DivX
If you’ve go this far you’ve read all this info, thanks for your time and I hope you can help.

Your file uses a video codec (Apple HDV) that is only available to a machine with Final Cut installed. It is very "raw" (lightly compressed).
What you want to do is export from Final Cut and use H.264 Video codec and AAC audio. This file will play on any machine (Mac or Windows) that has QuickTime 7 installed and meets the high definition playback specifications.
The 800 G4 and the 1.25 dual G4 will both drop frames during playback because they don't meet the HD playback requirements.
