Can't copy address book from Tiger PowerPC to Leopard Intel

I have been trying to help a friend who bought a new macbook and is trying to move the contents of his address book across to his new Macbook. I can't find the Vcards on his old computer and don't know how to go about finding them. Would it help if he upgrades his old computer to Leopard?
Would appreciate any help.
Thanks
Kevin

Thanks for your speedy reply! I am the guy who who was looking for the answer. So are you saying to just drag the entire address book itself in the doc directly into the new Mac Book?
no, I'm not saying that at all. please read my post. it says what you need to copy.
I already tried that but if did not read the V-cards properly perhaps because of the difference between Tiger and Leopard and one having an intel and the other not.
no, that is not a problem.

  • How can I copy address book content from user 1 to user 2 in my iMac

I have my iMac set up with 2 users. The address book is in user 1. I need to establish a copy of it in user 2 so that the icloud I have set up for that user icludes the address book. How can i copy the address book from user 1 to user 2?

Are you sure you did that right ... because I did a File/Backup Address Book, and the file named included the date. I then copied the file through our Airport network from the Powerbook to a new iMac. The opening Address Book on the iMac, I did a File/Revert to Address Book Backup, which allows you to choose the file. Now the iMac had the same Address Book file as the Powerbook. This looks to me to be the same thing you are trying to do.

  • How can I import address book from thunderbird on another computer

I just purchased a new laptop and have dowloaded Thunderbird for my e-mail as that was what I was using on desktop. I have 2 e-mail accounts, my personal e-mail addresses came thru with no difficulty however my other account the contacts in address book didn't come thru. So question is how can I get address book imported for this account too. My desktop is Windows XP and my laptop is Windows 8
    thanks for any help

The neat thing to do would be to copy the profile from the XP machine to the W8 machine. This would have transferred your messages, your account settings and your Address Book and much else.
Given that you have set up Thunderbird and have started using it, copying over the profile may not now be terribly attractive for you.
So, instead, you can export and import your Address Books.
On the XP computer, open the Address Book, select an address book (e.g. Personal Address Book), select '''Tools|Export''', select the name and location of a file to contain the exported data, choose LDIF and then Save. Repeat for each required address book. Give your LDIF files simple but meaningful names, such as PAB.ldif and CA.ldif. Don't use, for instance, ''Personal Address Book.ldif'', as this will create a second address book with the same name as one of the defaults and you won't be able to easily tell which is which.
Put the exported LDIF files where the W8 computer can see them, e.g. a USB memory stick.
On the W8 machine, open the address book, Tools|Import and select an exported LDIF file. It will import and create a new address book; you'll probably want to move the Contact data back to the usual address book. You can select all (ctrl+a) then drag-and-drop the imported Contacts to the preferred address book. Repeat for each LDIF file.
Having said that, I don't understand what you mean by "my personal e-mail addresses came thru with no difficulty however my other account the contacts in address book didn't come thru"; unless you have moved the profile folder over, I don't understand why ''any'' contacts should have transferred.
If you have in fact moved the profile folder, then I'm puzzled as to why the transfer of address books has been incomplete. However the export and import route should be able to reclaim the missing address book(s).

  • How Can I copy purchased books from my MAC book iBooks to my iPhone iBoooks

I wasn't sure where to put this because it has to do with my Macbook air and my iPhone 5S and iBooks on both units.
I am using iBooks version 1.01 (281) on my MAC book Air. My OS is OS X version 10.9.4 Mavericks.
About two weeks ago, I upgraded my iPhone 4S to a iPhone 5S (64 gigabyte). I currently have iOS 8.0 on the iPhone.
So, I have lots of books that I have purchased over the years from iTunes and now iBooks. All of them have been backed up to the cloud. They were also backed up to iTunes on my MAC from my 4S.
I tried to download the books from my iCloud to my iBooks on the new 5S and it all worked. But there is one missing book. (Staying Strong by Demi Lovato) I have purchased this book three times from iBooks. All three purchases are still listed in my purchase history there. It is in my MAC book iBooks library (but no longer in iTunes because Apple separated the Apps a while ago). And I can read it there. But it is NOT in the iCloud for some reason.
Everything I find on the Apple site refers to iTunes which is outdated since it is no longer part if iTunes (now it's a separate app). Where can I find information on how to copy the book from my iBooks app library to my iPhone iBooks app so I can read it on my iPhone 5S? Is there a way to even do this? Do I have to buy it agin for the fourth time?
I don't want to go back to that lousy PC?

When I connected my iPhone, it automatically synced right away. I did click on the iPhone button and saw the contents of my iPhone including the Books. When I clicked that 'Books' button. But since the book in question was not on my iPhone, it did not show up in the list so I could not select it like you suggested. Therefore I could not sync that book to my iPhone. Thanks for the help though.
The good news is I did manage to get the book on to my iPhone.
When her book came out for preorder about a year or two ago, I looked for it in the iTunes store and preordered it. About a week after it came out, I found what was basically the same book for a dollar more. ($7.99 and $8.99) I figured there must be something additional (features) in the $8.99 book. So I bought it too. As far as I could tell though, they were exactly the same. So I decided to hide one of them so they would not both show up in my Library. Anyway, I went to my iTunes/iBooks account and managed the hidden books area. I unhid the Demi book and then it showed up in my iCloud to download on my iPhone. Now they are both on my computer so I need to figure out which one is the other one and hide it. So then I can delete it from my computer just have the one that is on my iPhone on both systems. But at least I found a way to get a copy on my iPhone.

  • Copy address book from old hard disk drive to new

I'm trying to transfer the address book from a hard disk drive (HDD) that crashed to the new HDD that has a fresh install of Leopard 10.5.8. I was able to transfer the contents of the old HDD to the new HDD, so all the files (old and new) are on the same, new HDD. I've tried was several people have suggested, which is to copy the folder "Address Book" from the location /Users/YOU/Library/Application Support/ on the old HDD to the same location on the new HDD, but only the 2 default users appear in the address book when I open it. Surely this cannot be that difficult. Any help is appreciated.
    Thnaks!

    Hi, see if this helps...

  • How can I import address books from Thunderbird to Mail?

I had to use Thunderbird for all my Mail, because I cannot import about 10 different e-mail address lists with a total of about 300
addresses (contacts) into the Mail application nor into the Contacts Application.  Every other e-mail application, and every server
    supports imports like this.
Apple appears to have no solution either.  On Apple Support site for Mail and Contacts, it says "Support temporarily not available"
and said so for weeks.  I tried to import into Contacts, using Thunderbird address book files converted to ..Idif  format and Contacts
imported them import without any fuzz.  The folders appeared in Contacts  as sub-folder the same name I had in the export files.
After the import I quit both Mail and Contacts and restarted my MacbookAir, it runs on OS 10.8.5., Mail is version 6.6.
I opened up Mail and the new sub-folders were listed in its Address Book window,  However when I clicked ao any of them, they
would not open.    I opened the Contacts application, and the folders were still there but when I tried to open the they were empty.
Is there a way to import those addresses, so they will show up?

Thanks for trying to help but .mbox is used for mailboxes, not address lists (Contacts).
I understand that Apple Mail and Contacts use .csv files for their lists, and I was able to
import my first Contact List using that type of File, but then was only table to get the name
the content of one List imported.
Last thing I tried, I used my Webmail Server which can import all address books (Contacts) and
export them across all sorts of different e-mail applications (they list about 10 different types)
and yes, the only missing is Apple Mail.
Looks like I am stuck with having to use Thunderbird, because I Mail will not import my
    Contacts.

  • Migrating Address Book from Tiger to Leopard

I migrated all data from old machine (G4 Powerbook) to new machine (MacBookPro), but my address book is now messed up. Contacts are not organized in the same groups as in old machine, and some contacts have multiple addresses that are not correct.
Can I copy files over manually from my old machine to the new one? I know the Address Book info is in the Application Support file, but is there a preference I need to copy as well?
    Thanks!

copy the directory /homedirectory/library/application support/address book and the file home directory/ library/preferences/com.apple.addressbook.plist from the old computer to the corresponding locations on the new one. Make sure that neither Mail nor address book are running when you do this. start Address book and see if it transfered correctly.

  • Can't copy address book to other machines

I have recently updated my address book on my main production machine. I exported as an archive. On the other two machines in the office, I restored from backup and selected my new address book archive. However, when I scroll through the address book on the two other machines, none of my new names are in the book. How do I copy my address book to the other machines so we all have the same address book.

If the export method isn't working, you can do it by hand
Go to ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder). Then just copy it over to the other Macs, if they are all running the same system.
~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)

  • Can't restore address book from Desktop Software 6.0.0.43

To my regret, I had to do a security wipe in order to activate my Blackberry 8830 (World Edition) with my company's BES.  (I had used BES in the past with a different company.)
Now, I'm trying to do a custom restore of address book contacts and memos from a backup file ("Blackberry 8830.ipd") using Desktop Software 6.0.0.42
I see that I have 269 address book entries and 2 memos in the restore window, so I assume that the backup file has not been corrupted.
When I click "Restore," I do not get any error messages, but no contacts appear in my Phone Book after I get the successful restore confirmation -- except for the generic Customer Care entry which I had retrieved from my Phone SIM card.
I am aware of Issue DT755153 from http://docs.blackberry.com/en/smartphone_users/deliverables/18351/BlackBerry_Desktop_Software-Releas...
Could a permissions or synch setting on my company's BES be the cause of my address book restore problem?  I'm not sure if understand the full implications of DT755153.  I am afraid of doing a full restore because I don't want to mess with my BES activation.
Can I manually change/delete a setting in the Service Book that would allow me to complete my restore?
    Other Notes:
    1) I have checked my address book database size after each restore and it's still 1KB (that 1 record).
    2) I have checked for other contacts on my phone SIM card.
    3) I have not switched phones or devices.
    4) I tried rebooting my phone by pulling out the battery (while it was still on), but still no luck.
I would appreciate any other suggestions.  I really need access to my contacts from my backup file!!!
    Cheers,
    TK

    Hey Lenfrancis,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Do you have any other email accounts setup like Gmail, Yahoo or Hotmail?  If you do, you might need to remove the *email address {SYNC}* service book prior to setting up the synchronization.

  • Can I load address book from spreadsheet? How?

I had to create my address book spreadsheet from webserver address list. It's on open office spreadsheet. Would like to place it on thunderbird address book. How do I import?

But basically save the spreadsheet as a CSV file and import using the tools menu.

  • How to export address book from ibook g4 to iMac Intel?

Hi, can anyone advise what I need to do to export the contacts in the address book of an ibook g4 running OS 10.4.11 to a new iMac 3.2 GHz Intel iCore 3 running OS 10.6.7? Thank you for your help.

Hi - on the iBook launch Address Book, click on one of your contacts and then click Command+A to select all contacts. In the Address Book File menu select Export>vCards and save them to disk. If the two Macs are on the same network just copy them across to the iMac, launch Address Book on the iMac and go to File>Import and import the vCards file you copied over. If the Macs aren't on a network copy the vCards file across on a USB stick or email them to yourself.

  • Can't import my mailboxes from Tiger Mail into Leopard

    Hi everyone,
I bought a new MBP and I'm now in the process of carefully importing my mailboxes from Tiger mail, on my Tiger backup HD, to the new mail program. I have about 20000 messages saved since 1999, sorted by project etc. Each time I select a batch of mailboxes to import, I get a failure message when it's almost done, saying that some messages couldn't be imported. This is very frustrating: my e-mail archive is possible the most important collection of files on the computer. I would hate for it to become messed up/corrupted.
    Thanks for any suggestions!
    Alex

Try copying the directory ~/Library/Mail/ (the library folder in your home directory) from your old computer to the same location on your Leopard install. I believe the versions of Mail in Tiger and Leopard use the same directory structure, so this should work.

  • Is it possible to copy mobipocket books from my computer to my iPAD

Can I copy Mobipocket books from my computer to my iPad2 ?
    Jhhon

Download history usually will have the link back to the original source location. Assuming that still exists, it's worth a try. When you right-click (Ctrl+click) an item, the small context menu should let you copy the URL of the original source, which you then can paste into the address bar to fetch it again. If the original download required you to be logged in to the source site, you should log in again first to increase your odds of getting the download.
