Can't copy from Home Sharing to new library on an authorized computer.

Hi,
I'm trying to copy my itunes library via home sharing from my old PC to my Macbook pro. Both computers are Authorized. I've de-authorized and re-authorized the destination computer (the Mac) a couple of times. I was able to successfully transfer just over half of the songs. The error message i get is: _ could not be copied because the computer is not authorized. (which it is)
Any help would be appreciated.
thank you,
TL

i am interested in this solution as well... i never de-authorized or re-authorized, just tried doing the same thing and it won't let me copy the music from one to another?!? my son is using my old dell laptop and he wants music off of my macbook and his mom's laptop... but we can't seem to get the music to transfer without copying the folder onto an external and then letting him copy it onto his laptop?!?!
that just defeats the whole purpose of having the SHARING feature???

I have an external network hard drive with a shared music folder (WD MyBookLive), which I can access from Home Sharing and play music on my Windows computers. On my new Mac, I can see the drive and the music in Home Sharing but the tracks will not play. All the other authorized computers in my home network show up in Home Sharing and I can play the content. What's the solution?

  • Can't import from home shared computer

Okay here's the deal. My mom, who has her computer in the basement, got an iPad. Her computer didn't recognize it or find the driver. She uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes but keeps getting error messages that it didn't install correctly.
A new unit needs to be connected to a computer in order to even turn on so I brought the unit upstairs and got it all set up on my computer. It's working fine. my mom wants all her music and movies from her computer put on the iPad. I turned on home sharing, both computers can view eachothers libraries, but I do not have an import option. I can listen to the songs but can't do anything else with them.
I have Windows Vista and my mom has XP. Could that be the problem? Could it be because she doesn't have iTunes on her computer properly installed? How can we fix this? We've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes but it still comes up with the error. I will reply with the error message as soon as I can. Thanks!

I will reply with the error message as soon as I can. Thanks!
Good-O! I'll be watching for it.

  • How can I copy keyword list to a new library

I'm a keyword fanatic. Keywords are my most favorite feature of the product. It's the reason I use iPhoto in the first place. I recently created a new iPhoto v6 library and can see that the keyword list did not get migrated. Is there a way to do this? Can I export and import the keyword list? Thanks.

    gtigan
Keywords are kept in the main database file and when you create a new library, you create a new database.
The only way I can think of to what you want is to select a single pic and give it ALL the keywords, then use iPhoto Library Manager to move that pic from the old library to the new one. iplm is the only way to move pics and metadata between libraries while using v6. (hmm, another reason to upgrade.)
And, as I mentioned in my other post, if you're a "keyword fanatic" then check out Keyword Manager

  • HT4106 Can I copy from an iPod to my iPad directly? (no computer)

A friend of mine, whose sole Apple item is a used iPod, wants to copy his iPod's music to his new iPad mini. It's the old, 2005 video iPod. Is it even possible for him to do that? This is a fellow from a computer-poor background. What kind of connection would he need? Can he plug the iPod into the iPad and copy his songs over?

iPods and iOS devices are designed to be synced with a computer, so the quick answer is no.
The only possible solution would be to use a device like AirStash but it will not work with a "classic iPod". I doubt it would work even to transfer music from one iOS device to another.

  • Download movies from home sharing?

I ripped most of my DVDs so I can play them through Apple TV, etc. I share them via iTunes using home sharing. However, I want to be able to download movies from that shared library directly to my iPad and/or iPhone so I have them when I travel. I read you could just 'drag' them to a different (say, local) library, but I do not see how to do that. I'm viewing the content in the shared library and can't find any way of copying that content anywhere.

Thanks, but that is not my question. My question is whether I can transfer/download from home sharing.

  • HT3819 How can I disconnect a failed (no longer accessible) computer or iPod from home sharing?

I have two computers authorized to my home sharing set up, but their hard drives have failed.  I can't access them to due authorize them from home sharing.  How can I get around that hurdle?

    Hello harp_n_run,
Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing with Home Sharing.
If you do not have access to the authorized computer, you can deauthorize all computers in your iTunes Store account settings.  You can then go back and authorize the computers you have access to.
You can follow these steps to deauthorize all your computers:
To deauthorize all computers associated with your Apple ID
If you need to authorize your new computer and are unable due to already having five authorized computers, you can deauthorize all computers by doing the following:
Click iTunes Store on the left side of iTunes.
If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
Click the Account button again (your Apple ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.
Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than two authorized computers. If you need assistance on using this feature, please contact iTunes Store support via email (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/).
After deauthorizing all your computers, you can follow these steps to authorize the computers you do have access to:
To authorize a computer using your Apple ID
    Open iTunes
From the Store menu, choose Authorize This Computer. (In earlier versions of iTunes, access this option from the Advanced menu).
When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password, then click Authorize.

  • How can i access my home shared videos from my iPad2 if I now have iTunes match?

how can i access my home shared videos from my iPad2 if I now have iTunes match?

That's exactly what I meant, but for some reason Home Sharing stopped working on my iPad2 once I activated iTunes Match.
Since then, I waited for iTunes Match to finish setting up and scanning my iTunes library on my MacBook Pro and I restarted my iPad2. Both Home Sharing and iTunes Match are now up and running smoothly!
    Thanks for the reply!

  • My Apple TV and IPad drop after x mintues from "Home Sharing". To restart it, I need to close iTunes on my Windows 7 PC, open it , then I can listen again X minutes (15-90 minutes) to my music via "Home Sharing". Any idea why? What worked for you?

I believe if you updated your Apple TV, you need iTunes 11 to make it work.

  • How can I copy current board  content into new board?

    Hi there.
how can I copy current board  content  into new board?

    Hi-
Can I drag it to the external drive or perhaps just the songs, then copy/drag them to my new computer ?
    Pretty much, Yes.
If you wish to keep the formatting, notes, ratings, etc. that are with the library, you should allow the iTunes software to "discover" the library.
If the iTunes Library from one machine is placed on an external drive, the iTunes software on the other machine can be directed to the library of the external drive when connected.
Allowing "Copy to Home folder/music" will provide for copying of the library to the new machine.
Alternatively, if the library is loaded onto an iPod, the iPod can be used to transfer the music.

  • HT202213 How do I remove a device from home sharing?

I have maxed out my 5 iTunes devices for Home Sharing and want my newest laptop to be included.  How do I disable another device from Home Sharing so I can enable the new one?

Yes, sorry for my crossing up terms, there is a 5-computer limit, but after some digging figured out (read: found helpful posts telling me) to de-authorize all computers and then re-authorize my active ones, so now I've got the right laptops authorized to link up with Home Sharing fx.
    Thanks!

  • HT201413 Why can't I get Home Sharing to show up in my Itunes?

I have three computers authorized on my Home Sharing, but when I call up Itunes on any of the computers, Home Sharing computers do not show up.  Can someone help me.  I just got a new computer and can't seem to get my Itunes library switched over.

  • How do i delete an ipod or computer i no longer own from home sharing?

I just downloaded itunes to my new laptop and tried to sign in to home sharing and it didn't let me since i  reached the max of 5 computers or devices. I dont even remember all the devices logged onto my profile. How can remove or deactivate a device i no longer own?

I don't think that there is a limit for home sharing.
I assume you mean authorizing your computer.  You can only authorize computers 5 at a time.
You will need to deauthorize all, then authorize the computers you want.
