Can't copy lighting effect in cc

I can't copy any lights in the lighting effects filter in photoshop CC. I've seen this has happened to other people but not for a while. Anyone else having trouble?

Hi Bobmepp, I’m having the exact same problem you describe on the PC version of CC. Did you get to the bottom of this?
For clarity i have included some other issues with the lighting effect:
- no tools to pinpoint light source
- seemingly no way to exit from the lighting effects window without restarting PS and resetting the workspace
Here's a pic to demonstrate my issue:

  • Can't control lighting effects in PS CC

I am running both PS CC and CS6 on my mac mini  (late 2012, 2.3 i7, 16 GB ram). When I try to use the lighting effects filter on CC, it opens, and all the sliders in the properties box work, but without the tools to point and modify the light source. On CS6, lighting effects opens with the expected oval shaped tools and the intensity adjuster. I am assuming that it is not the Mac-mini, as it handles both versions, CC and CS6, without issues except for this. Is this a bug in CC? I have searched and found nothing to this effect. I am assuming the video capabilities are adequate as the lighting effects option is not greyed out in either version. Also, I have made sure the image I am working on is in 8 bit mode.

  • How can I copy light from one window to another in a photo?

I am looking at printing an image I shot last winter as our Christmas card this year. There are three windows in a mediaeval building, each composed of multiple leaded panes and the one on the extreme left is lit. My partner would like to have the middle one lit as well. Is this feasible without commiting huge amounts of time to the project or do I need to rebook the snow and arrange a reshoot?

    brahma56,
Here is another approach to light up the window:
    Open picture file
Open a blank layer on top of this, fill it with black, blend mode normal, opacity 75% or so. Rename it "black night"
Create new layer above this, name it "window 1", blend mode hard light
Access lasso tool and select the window, feather=0
Select a soft brush, mode normal, opacity 20-30%, paint window from bottom up. Should be a tad lighter at top vs. bottom. Use the "light" color from the window on the left which you can get with the eyedropper tool for your foreground color
Use eraser tool to tidy up
If wood slats on window are obscure, open a new layer at top, select foreground color from the window frame on the left, and using square brush, reconstruct same. TIP: When using brush tool, click at start point, hold down shift key, click on end point to get a straight line.
Adjust opacity of black night layer to suit

  • Lighting Effects in Flash

I'm currently trying to find out as much as I can about the lighting effects that are avaialble in Flash, but so far all my searches have come up with absolutley nothing - is there any such thing in Flash? I'd like to be able to create spotlights/point lights/etc. If this is even possible I'd highly appreciate it if someone could point me in the direction of some tutorials or even just tell me the names of the classes I should use and I'll look into it myself... so far searching the Flash help files for "lighting" has returned no results.
In the event that this is not possible, I'm going to need to use masks instead (this is what I am currently doing, but it seems the 'man in charge' wants it done differently...) and was wondering whether it was possible to create a 'blur' effect at the edges of my mask layer? I think this could possibly be done by making the alpha value of my mask shape gradually get lower towards the edges (Is this possible either?) but again I'm not really sure where to begin.
To sum up what I need - basically just some way of making it look like a light is shining across a 2D plane (the background), illuminating a portion of it before fading away into darkness.
I'm really struggling with working out where to begin here, so any help at all would be great. Thanks in advance everyone.

You won`t be able to have real Lights in Flash, so If you want to hold on to Flash, you would have to fake them -as you guessed right- with Alpha Masks.
    Here is a good tutorial.

  • Still no Lighting effects filter even after PS in 32 bit

I am booting up PS in 32 bit mode so I can use the Lighting effects but I am still not getting the option in the render menu. Can anyone help?

Hmmm…  I wonder if folks who got the CS5 DVD that installs Photoshop 12.1 right off the bat only get the 64-bit version of Photoshop CS5—as opposed to those whose install media installs 12.0 and then they have to update to 12.0.4.
It's pure speculation, but the CS 6 beta for the Macintosh is only 64-bits, no 32-bit version available.

  • Trouble with Photoshop CC 3D and Lighting Effects errors

I can not use Lighting Effects and 3D because of these errors keep appear
I have 4GB RAM and I already checked 'Use Graphics Processor' box. Photoshop CS6 works fine with the same setting but Photoshop CC doesn't. Video card and RAM didn't cause these errors. I think it's Photoshop CC. I want to use only Photoshop CC and remove Photoshop CS6 but I can't because I still need to use 3D and Lighting Effects. That cost my hard drive memory to use 2 Photoshop versions at the same time.
I already removed both of them clearly and reinstalled but it doesn't work.
    Please help me out! Thanks!

  • Render Lighting Effects

For the first time ever I've been looking at (and trying to use) this effect in Photoshop. It seems like it could be good, but the method of moving settings and adjustments seems incredibly cheap and nasty.
When you start to place a lighting effect on an image you get a small preview image alongside the adjustment controls, but that image is so small it's almost impossible to see what you're doing and where you're doing it. Surely there is a bigger/better way of seeing where you are placing the effect and making adjustments?
Have I missed something, or is that as good as it gets?

    Hi Kev,
The Lighting Effects is a very valuable filter from my perspective as I use it on about a dozen images each year. The problem with the interface is that it is a very old filter and has never been updated. The little preview window is particularly hard to get used to as it is easy to lose the light outline handles and even manipulating them is problematic. There is no better preview window that that which you find frustrating.
That being said, with patience and some practice it can do great lighting effects. Using alpha channels can add bevel and emboss effects which have a different quality that those found in styles and sometimes are more valuable. I will say that even with considerable practice I still am accustomed to experimenting several times when I use the filter before becoming completely satisfied with the result.
I really wish that Lighting Effects would be updated with a new UI but don't believe it will be as the only 'old' filters which seem to get upgraded are those which benefit photographers who really are the bulk of the user base. I mean hey, they finally made the Brightness/Contrast filter useful after it had long ago proven to be useless.
Here's a Lighting Effects piece. The background and puzzle were two 3D renders which were then manipulated in Photoshop. The table top, wainscot, molding and light fixture were all made in Photoshop. The whole thing was lighted with Lighting Effects.

  • CS6 Lighting Effects Filter won't let me copy lights or drag to delete (bug?)

I am trying to apply a Lighting Effects filter in CS 6 x64.
It appears the Alt + drag command to copy a light won't work. I've tried it on the light on the Image Canvas and by alt + drag on the light in the Lights panel wit no luck.
I also can't drag a light in the Lights panel down to the trash can do delete it. I have to select it and just click the trash can icon.
    Anyone else having this issue?
    Thanks,

Yes, I'm having the same issue in Mavericks with the latest version of Photoshop CC. I cannot duplicate nor can I drag a light source to the trash in the Lights palette.

  • Can I duplicate lights created in PS 14 Render/Lighting Effects?

I've been going absolutely nuts trying to simulate a LED (RGB) stage lighting chase using a tight grouping of RGB spot lights repeated 30-40 times. I realize I have to set-up the group of 3 (RGB) spot lights, but the ability to copy and paste these groupings seems to be lacking in PS 14. If it does exist, it sure as heck isn't very intuitive. I certainly don't have the copious hours it would require to set up 120 individual spot lights. Good Lord!

Anyone have an idea about this?  In the old lighting effects, you could Option-drag (Mac) a light source to clone it, but that doesn't seem to work in CC.
If I'm trying to create a night version of a building with multiple gooseneck lamps, it's difficult to get several lights to all look the same if I can't clone the first one created.

The advantage goes to FCP7 if you allow that it can copy and paste filters, audio and video, transformations, and other attributes separately.
You can do that in FCPX too, as all the things you cited are listed separately in the inspector.
Here's a little gotcha. Let's say you've color corrected a few clips and you've applied an effect to one and want to paste it the other clips. You switch off color correction and copy the clip. You select the other clips and paste effects. What do you think happens? The effect is applied, but the color correction is applied as well, only it's switched off as it was in the first clip, so all the color correction on the other clips is lost. Fun, eh?
I'll try to replicate your gotcha - but no, that doesn't sound like fun at all!

  • Can't get widget to appear to adjust lights in lighting effects

have PS cc and when I use Lighting effects a lighting effects window pops up but it won't show me light handles or a widget to move the lights around. i can switch lights to adjust their properties but can't move the lights around my image, So it is of little or no use without that functionality.
Can any one help me solve this problem? .....................  Windows 7os, nvidia geforce 650 with latest drivers updated.

Try disabling the OpenGL support in Preferneces > Performance. You'll need to reopen the image for this change to go into effect.

  • Help! My copy of CS5 won't show lighting effects, and changing it to 32 bit mode does nothing

    Hi guys,
I have a copy of CS 5.1 and my system is a Macbook Pro on Mac OS 10.6.8
I want to use lighting effects, so I changed it to 32 bit mode. So I go in to Photoshop and it's not there. I reset PS's settings, restart the computer as well. Still nothing.
Wah. It worked before in the past, so why not now? Also I checked the plugin folder to make sure the lighting effect plugin was actually there and, yes it was. So what gives?
Anyway, any help you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated, thankyou

Ok this is the render menu in 32 bit mode. Annndddd...
I noticed there is still the 'x64' beneath CS' title... is that supposed to be there when you boot in 32 bit mode? Or could it be that my CS just isn't loading in 32 bit?
    Anyway thanks for replying!

  • Can't access Filter-Render-Lighting Effects

I have an image in Bridge that exists both as a jpg and camera raw. I can open the jpg version and apply Filter - Render - Lighting Effects. When I try to do the same with the camera raw image, I get as far as Render, and then the Lighting Effects options is gray and not accessible (along with Clouds and Difference Clouds). Why is this? Surely it should be possible to use the Lighting Effects feature with a raw image?
    I am using CS2.

Glad to get you up to speed again, on only took a few min. to get answer.  Your lucky day!

  • How can I duplicate a light source in the Render Lighting Effects Filter?

    hello --
when using the filter Render > Lighting Effects, is it possible to duplicate a lightsource? My goal would be to have a light source of the exact same dimensions just offset on the canvas? any suggestions or tips much appreciated.
    thank you in advance,
    patrick.
