"Can't copy the type. There isn't enough memory. ID=-108"

I'm running Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop, iTunes and Suitcase. In Illustrator I get an error: "Can't copy the type. There isn't enough memory. ID=-108"
How is this possible with 4gb of ram and 242 gb available on my hard drive? Is my new MBP a lemon?

Illustrator itself it's what's short of memory, these tips apply to After Effects and the same error message so see if you can apply them in Illustrator.

  • Trying to open a pdf in illustrator and get an error. "Can't finish previewing. There isn't enough memory" ID=-108

How do I open the file or what is the work around?

    Which version?
    Which system?
    How much RAM?
    How much available diskspace?
What kind of file is it? Where did it originate?
    How big is it?

  • Can't finish previewing. There isn't enough memory. ID = -108

    We run CS5.
One of our clients sent us a file that they would like printed.  The file is 1MB in size, and in PDF format - nothing unusual about any of this.  As usual, I saved the file and tried to open it in Illustrator to set up a proof for our customer, and to check and make sure the file is print-ready.  I received the error: "Can't finish previewing.  There isn't enough memory. ID = -108".  I press OK and it opens up a blank file with some crop marks on it.
I've tried finding a solution online, but everyone who has this problem seems to have next to no RAM.  I'm running on a brand new computer with Windows 7, 16GB of RAM and the Intel Core i7 processor.  I didn't think my RAM or cache were the problem, but just to be sure, I shut off the computer, let it sit for a few minutes, and started it up again.  Same problem.
I am able to open the file in Photoshop and Acrobat - but even when I save the file at a lower resolution, and turn it into a jpeg, it still won't open.  I get the same error.
I need to be able to work with this file.  How can I resolve this?
    Thanks!

Hi Josh--I was out the remainder of the day and evening.
I don't know whether you have gotten to the bottom of the problem yet. The PDF seems to just consist of an image. It opens and places fine here in everything I have that can do so.
There doesn't seem to be anything extrodinary about the file. It included crop marks, but as far as I can see, there's nothing way out on the artboard, etc., that could indicate there was something weird.
If you would like a file, I can ZIP an AI file and the extracted image--which you can also do from Acrobat as well.
    Take care, Mike

  • Error in Illustrator CS4 on Vista 64:  "Can't finish previewing.  There isn't enough memory. ID = - 108

Please help:  I have searched for this error and would appreciate any help or feedback.  I am not the Illustrator expert.  I build fast PC's, not design on them.  I would especially like to know where a complete error code list resides.
    Freshly assembled:
    Intel Core i7
    2 x 3GB DDR3
    3 SSD HDD's
    9800GTX+
I've done all the tips and tricks I can find.  With paging file, and w/o.  Scratch disk and w/o.  Fresh reboot on PC, CS4 fully updated, Vista 64bit business fully updated.  Aero off along with all visual stuff.
This PC is built to perform but will error out and I can't find the cause.
    To create the error:
    1.  open new 'print document'
    2.  Create text:  I use Blackoak Std 72 pt.  Pick a word to type.  I use 'Hello'.
    3.  Select and choose Effect > 3D > Extrude & Bevel.  Set Extrude Depth to 500, Bevel: Complex 4, and Height to 40.
    4.  Object > Expand Appearance
    5.  Object > Path > Offset Path. Run 3 times one of each type (Miter, Round, Bevel).  At this point there should be a lot of paths.
    6.  Window > Pathfinder > Unite
Total RAM usage never exceeds 3GB on the machine.
    Thanks for the help.

Just to mention a FRACTION of the many posts complaining about the Critical Memory Bug of CS4.
But do not worry, Adobe will sell you the CS5 (coming this April I think) instead of providing an update.

  • Error message "Can't finish previewing. There isn't enough memory. ID = 108"

    I have Illustrator CS5.
HP workstation with an intel xeon cpu. 64 bit
    12 GB of RAM.
I never had this problem before, but in the past few days this message keeps coming up, and converts the files to outline mode. It's happening to all kinds of illustrator files ranging is size from 2MB to 56MB, from simple drawings with gradient fills, to complex drawings with mesh. In most of the files, I'm working with vector images that I didn't create, but purchased from stock photo sites.
Any idea why this is happening? How can I fix this?

Check the source files in Photoshop. this could be due to "bad" color profiles or metadata being attached to the files.

  • Has anyone solved this? – "Can't finish previewing. There isn't enough memory."

Hi, i've been getting this message only since i switched to CC. I'm running an iMac i7 with 16GB of RAM and the pieces i'm working on are very small files and in the middle of working the notification comes up and then the image goes into a wireframe (outline) image. This should not be happening. Any ideas.
    Thanks!

    Oh, I didn't know that!
I did ask her to download the CS6 trial while I researched this, to see if that solves the problem, and it seems that it might as it is available for 64-bit.
If anyone else has any suggestions, though, I would be glad to hear them.

  • Can't finish previewing. There is not enough memory ID = -108

    Hello!
My user is using CS5 on a Dell Optiplex 980 with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, an i5 650, and 8GB RAM.
She has ran into this error several times on more than one file, and Illustrator crashes.
We found the method to File > Place the file in question in a new file, but that did not resolve the issue.
    Any help would be appreciated!

  • Does anyone else think that the AppleMac group of products are marketed in a greedy way? I have MacBook Pro 10.5.8 and am now told that I have to upgrade to Snow Leopard to sync my new iPad. Of course there isn't enough memory on the MacBook? I'm angry!

Does anyone else think that the AppleMac group of products are marketed in a greedy way? I have MacBook Pro 10.5.8 with Leopard and am now told that I have to upgrade to Snow Leopard so that my system can download the relevant iTunes upgrade to sync my new iPad and get my audiobooks (which don't appear anywhere on the device right now). Of course there isn't enough memory on the MacBook and Snow Leopard costs more also? I don't have financial resources to pay for all the new memory requirement and related upgrades they say I need just to sync my iPad with my purchases.

Thanks for the reply but I already knew this. $20 for Snow Leopard which asks for 5gb free memory. I can only see that I have 4 gb (which I feel is rather a pathetic amount of available memory for any computer). To upgrade this computer's memory will cost another fee (I haven't researched this yet but gather it's more than $20). Then of course I could also be told that the OSX Mackbook Pro that I have can't be memory upgraded - which means I'm being told to buy a new computer - hence my very frustrated last email. I have been given a lovely iPad 2 as a present and now can't sync at all with anything because of this ongoing upgrade nightmare. How on earth am I going to be able to sync my movies, audiobooks etc to this new device??

  • The i tune music library cannot be saved because there isn't enough memory available. (but there is more than enough)

    Hi
I'm re creating my library and a window keep appearing saying that " my music library cannot be saved because there isn't enough memory available". There more than enough memory for what I 'm doing and I don't know what to do.
    Please some help
    thank you !!

For resolving your issue, you are able to do as the followings :
     1.Close  any SkyDrive related process
2.Open  a command prompt (not PowerShell), and change to the directory where Microsoft Office 2013 is installed by typing the command below:
     cd C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\
3.Then type “groove.exe /clean /all” to clear all SkyDrive Pro cache and settings, setting it back to default again

If the issue still exists after doing the above steps, actually we have a dedicated support team regarding this kind of issue. I recommend you post a new thread in another forum where is staffed by many experts focusing on the Microsoft SkyDrive Pro client
    issue.

  • The operation cannot complete because there isn't enough memory (RAM) available

    Illustrator CS5 Verison 15.1 on a MacBook Pro Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013 Processor  2.7 GHz Intel Core i7, Memory  16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3,
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB. Illustrator opens .ai and .pdf files. When I try to open a .dwg file, I get the following message, “The operation cannot complete because there isn’t enough memory (RAM) available”. I have been using the program for some time to successfully open .dwg files. This is a recent occurrence and I have not made any changes to the hard drive other than installing OS 10.9

Have you already opened that specific file at some former time?
Have you already tried a restart?
    Apart from that:
Illustrator CS5 cannot use more than 3 GB of RAM, no matter how much is installed. OS 10.9 causes all kinds of problem even with newer versions of Illustrator.

  • Excel (There isn't enough memory to complete this action)

    Hi,
Everytime multiple Excel spreadsheets are open we keep getting the error message saying:
There isn't enough memory to complete this action.
Try using less data or closing other applications.
    To increase memory availability, consider:
    - Using a 64-bit version of Microsoft Excel.
    - Adding memory to your device
I have tried to increase the memory to 8GB and re-installed to 64-bit version but the application keeps doing the same thing. It freezes occasionally, blank screen appears.
What can i do to resolve this?

    Hi George:
    1. Is this occurring on multiple computers or just one? (You wrote 'We' ...") -
    Just one machine
    2. What is the total RAM and operating system on this computer / these computers? -
    8GB Ram using Windows 7
    3. After a fresh boot, do you still get this message when using Excel spreadsheets ONLY? -
Yes after a fresh boot only happens with Excel
    4. Did this just happen now with spreadsheets successfully used over a period of time? -
    Yes thats correct
    Hi Robbery:
You may be right about the formula calculation but these are spreadsheets that have been modified over
time so we cant start from fresh. I tried to increase the virtual memory but still no joy.

  • "There isn't enough memory to read worksheet" error when tried to open xlsx object from Powerpoint 2010

    Hi,
I have a powerpoint presentation (will call it A.PPTX) which has an embedded spreadsheet object (B.XLSX). I was able to double click the object in "A" and open "B.XLSX" as and when necessary.
today, i opened B from the A and inserted another spreadsheet C.XLSX as an object in B. Closed all the files and saved A.PPTX. when i tried double click and tried to open B.XLSX from the powerpoint, i am getting an error "There isn't enough memory to
    read worksheet"
Unfortunately, i don't have a backup of B.XLSX as I always edited it by opening it from the presentation. is there a way to recover it?
    Note:
    1. read through similar threads in the forum about errors while inserting objects or similar error in Powerpoint 2003. the solution provided did not help

    Hi
By the description, you want to recover the embedded worksheet in PowerPoint.
    Try following methods:
    1.Click to the presentation file
2.Change the file extension from pptx to zip
3.Open the file, locate to ppt>embeddings
4.There you will see the embedded worksheet
5.Save the file to another path and open it
If the worksheet is still corrupted, following these steps to recover an Excel file:
1.Change the file extension from xlsx to zip
2.Open the file, locate to xl>workbook.xml
    3. These XML files contain the data of each spreadsheet.
4.Copy the data to a new worksheet and save

  • Downloading itunes, I receive the error "there is not enough memory".  How do I fix the memory issue?

When dowloadning tunes, I receive the error "there is not enough memory.  I've deleted tunes from my library & ipod and I still get the error. How do I get around this?

It could be the newer version of iTunes requires more physical memory than your computer currently has available.
Do a right click on "My computer" and check out your computers memory/RAM specifications.
Windows XP is a bit bloated in the latest updates, trying to get people to upgrade to Windows 7, might be little room for other programs, especially one as huge as iTunes.
If you finally do choose a new machine, I have some tips:
For 3D gaming laptops, I wouldn't pick any graphics card scoring less than 1000 on this sites scale. Not scoring less than 2000 for towers.
    http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
I would also choose a quad core processor scoring 5000 or better on this scale,  64 bit,  Windows 7 Pro (so you can virtualize your XP programs) or OS X, and 4GB of RAM expandable to at least 8GB or future proofing your investment.
    http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html
I would also choose 7,200 RPM hard drives for both towers and laptops for performance. On laptops while using the battery, set the energy savings to stop the hard drive spinning when not in use. Only choose the slower 5,400 RPM drive option if your always on battery and need maximum life as you lose about 20% with the faster drive, but gain 20% or more in performance.
Dual cores and 32 bit processors/OS with their 4GB RAM limit is soon to be old news.
For laptops, I highly recommend anti-glare displays for maximum use in any environment.
