Can't copy to mini after desktop drive replacement

I had my mini set up to sync its Podcasts folder with my desktop PC at work (WinXP). The disk failed on that PC, and after rebuilding my system and installing iTunes, I am unable to copy Podcasts from the new desktop drive to the iPod. I had iTunes 7.01 on there before, and it was working fine. I now have 7.02, but I tried this with a co-worker's PC running an earlier version.
Actually, iTunes shows that it is copying the files, and I believe they get there. They show up under the 'Recently Added' playlist, but not under the Podcasts folder. I can play them from there, but they're not broken down into subfolders, and I can't delete them.
I don't want to set it to sync, because I'll lose the stuff that's already on the iPod. But shouldn't I be able to manually copy?
Does anybody think setting the iPod to sync Podcasts will clean this up? Or updating the iPod firmware?
Like I said, everything used to work fine, so I don't want to make any drastic changes if I don't have to.
Thanks,
Rob

  • How can I sync iPod Mini after hard drive reformat?

My son has an iPod mini. Recently, we had to have our computer hard drive reformatted and had to reinstall iTunes. When we try to sync the mini, it shows up with all it's songs, but the songs won't update into the library, so the desktop iTunes has nothing in it. Anyone able to help me with this? I'm sure it's an easy fix but for now I'm at a loss. Thanks in advance for any help you can shed on this.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Sounds like you have to transfer the songs from the mini back to the computer first.
    Check this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=797426#797426
Before there is a next time, consider backing up the songs on your computer on CD-R or DVDR or external hard disk before doing a reformat.

    Hi micha164,
I am curious to know how did Flash Player get uninstalled from Chrome? If you can please share steps to reproduce how your Flash Plugin got Removed?
Also, Can you open chrome application Goto Chrome://plugins and See if Adobe Flash Player Plugin is Disabled? If yes, kindly enable Flash Player Plugin by clicking the [blue colored]enable link and restart the browser to see if the changes have reflected.
Because Flash Player cannot be uninstalled from Chrome using any uninstaller, as it is embedded part of the app installer/update and can only be removed if you remove the plugin reference from the location on disk. Possibility is that your plugin got disabled and did not get enabled after that.
Please see if it helps. If the above does not work then the only resolve is to update Chrome app. Please let us know if your query got resolved or not.

  • Can't Copy Large Files To External Drive

This is driving me nuts. I'm running 10.4.11 with an external Newer Tech Ministack 320GB hard drive that's only ten weeks old. Yesterday I downloaded some large (50mb or so) QuickTime files to my desktop, which is to say my internal drive. I then tried to copy them to my external drive, since that's where I keep my movie files since they take up so much room. One copied over without any trouble, but numerous attempts to copy the others result in the process freezing after anywhere from 1/4 to 3/4 of the data has been copied, or else I get the "error 36" message. My first thought was that the external drive was failing, but I can copy small movie files (10mb or so) back and forth between the two drives with no problem. What's the point of having a large external drive if you can't use it for your large files? Repaired permissions on both drives, no improvement.

I have repaired permissions and run disk repair on the internal drive as well. Yes, I've played the clips in their entirety, but I'm going to do it again and look for any hiccups. That's an interesting theory and I want to check it out.
It has occurred to me that a workaround, although it by no means addresses the underlying problem, is to use QuickTime Pro to chop the clips up into several smaller files, copy them to the external drive, and then reassemble them via QuickTime Pro on the external drive.
FWIW, I neglected to mention (although I don't know if it's pertinent or not) that immediately after installing the external drive ten weeks ago I used SuperDuper to clone my entire internal drive onto the external firewire drive. I then erased the movies from the internal drive, which was bumping up against maximum capacity. I am able to boot from the external drive, and I want to retain this capacity should the internal drive (which is, after all, six and a half years old) fail.

  • How can I copy a video to flash drive

How can I copy a video saved in the Mozilla history to a flash drive?

First, format the flash drive as HFS Extended (Journaled).
Then drag and drop the entire TS folder (which makes up a video DVD) from your desktop to the flash drive.

  • HELP! I can't copy files to my hard drive

This is weird. I've had my MP since it came out and all was fine until the other day. All of a sudden I cannot copy anything to my Hard Drive! Not from a CD, not from an external HD. I can copy TO other places but not to my working folders. I also cannot copy from a DVD (where I have files archived) to an external drive I use or my HD.
Whatever happened though seems to have affected my other computer (G4 Quicksilver) which I have networked to my MP because I can't stuff copy there either. Nor can I copy items back and forth when connected.
    I've repaired permissions many times.
    Any ideas?

Verify the disk, then verify permnissions. And make sure that "Ignore Ownership on this volume" (Get Info) is not selected, or is not even present (shouldn't be for boot drive).
It sounds like an ownership issue, maybe a corrupt directory.

  • Can't copy Iphoto library from external drive to hard drive

I have a 210 gig iphoto library that I am trying to copy from an external hard drive with 440 gig of avaliable space. I am getting a message say it can't copy because there is not enough space. The math doesn't add up

    Try the following:
1 - run Disk Utility and repair disk permissions.
2 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
3 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1.
4 - try dragging the library to your internal drive again.

  • How can I copy with render to new drive?

I am using an external hard drive to work on a project and I need to move everything to a new external drive, but the renders and some media files will not connect. All my preferences are set to each external hard drive on each project. The project is in HD and I do not want to re-render if I can help it. I can reconnect media and for some reason all the sections show up, but have to do it one section at a time and I would like to select all. Some renders show up, but not all. I can plug up the old external hard drive and everything is there...renders and all. How can I have a backup or copy of the same project with renders and not have to render twice?

Thanks for the reply. FCP seems to have this problem from all the post I've read and it seems Apple has nothing to say about it. We have hours of footage to assemble and right now the only option seems is to go to the more expensive setup and ditch FCP, but I'm not sure Avid will be the solution and for 34,000, it's a bit much to see how well it works. I hope in a few weeks something will be released that will solve this problem, but I don't expect that to take place. If we go with SD, the re-render is not that big a deal, but for HD, it's a bit much to re-render every time FCP has this problem. I plan to purchase a new system along with the latest version of FCS, but I was having these issues when I was using FCP 4 HD and the solution was to be fixed with the next release.

  • Sometimes I can't copy files to a network drive...

    Hello,
I am new to the mac. I have a couple of USB drives attached to my UR Robotics 8200 router. The router uses an Intel processor and Linux. The drives are formatted for FAT32. You can create users in the router and give them read and or write access to the drives. When I first got the laptop it found the 8200 and I connected to the drives using my user account. It worked fine until I upgraded to 10.5.8. Then I suddenly could not copy a file to the drives. I can create folders, delete files and folders, copy files from the drives, but I cannot copy a file to the drive. I get an error saying I do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items.
Here is the weird part. If I go to the key chains and delete the login entry and log in as a different user it will work again. Then, when this account quits working I can log out and back in as the original user and it works again.
Normally, it stops allowing me to copy when I switch from wired to wireless or the other way around. As log as I stay connected it works fine ( even through a sleep or suspend period )
I called tech support and they had me repair my privileges and it still does the same thing.
Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated....

It works fine if I connect the drive direct to the USB port.
I recntly upgraded to Snow Leopard and it seem to have solved the issue....
I can now read/Wire and connect/disconnect at will and it works every time....

  • Can not copy files to another hard drive for backup

    30May07
    Apple Support:
I need to copy files from my home to an external hard drive because I need to do a complete re-install, and erase the laptop's hard drive.
When I try to either move the home folder the icon is a house, I get an question stating that some of my files do not have permssions, do I want to continue anyway (Yes, I do!)
A bit into the move, I get this message (dealing with permissions):
    Can not copy 1528.emix . Error code -36 .
I have no such file or any .emix files either. I was able to copy to whole hard disk, not just the home to the same external drive two weeks ago.
How can I copy my HOME to my external drive so I can reinstall the OS?
    Thank you for your help

    07Jun07
I believe the problem was my computer's internal drive. It corrupted several files. I had a very hard time copying the files. The -36 error stopped any transfer cold.
I did a complete install of the OS.
I need a way to determine what files are corrupt so I can delete them. It took 24 hours to constantly keep trying to copy the files to the external drive. I ended up deleting a lot of un-corrupt files. How can I determine which ones are bad so I don't delete good data?
Thank you for your help. I am also grateful to the Apple Store in Tucson, AZ.
You are having a hardware problem - there's a problem
on one of the drives in this story.
This can be caused by extra hardware connected to the
computer, so if you have anything extra connected to
the computer (external iSight, iPod, USB hub,
    anything) disconnect it.
If that doesn't help, try reformatting the external
    drive and try again.
If that doesn't help, just rescue what you can,
because the next step is that you're going to be
    reformatting the internal drive.

  • How can I copy outlook files to hard drive

How can I copy large outlook files to the external hard drive with out formatting it?
I currently have Macbook Pro Version OS X 10.9.5.
I tried all the ways copying outlook files, but it says larger files cannot be transferred. My outlook file is about 16gb.
Also tried trough Time Machine...Can anyone list of the steps here to copy these files to my hard drive?
Later, I want to copy these files from hard drive to the new Macbook Pro.....need urgent help please !!!

If your external drive is FAT32 (MS-DOS) format, it won't take file larger than 4GB. There's no way around that, I'm afraid.

  • Can't copy large file to FW drive

I'm not sure who to ask, but when I try to copy a 7gb file to an external Lacie FW drive I keep getting Error Code 1309. I've copied the file to another drive successfully, but wonder why I can't and what the Error Code means.
Is there anything I can do besides reformat the drive? If not, and I must reformat shouldn't it be as HFS+?

I assume your external drive is formatted FAT32, so it can be read by both a Mac & PC. However, FAT32 has a limitation of 4GB files due to the fact that 4GB is the largest 32-bit number, and the length of the file in the directory entry is 32-bits.

  • I trimmed a .mov file within Iphoto11 and now I can't copy & paste to my desktop

    Hi
I imported a .mov file from my digital camera to my Iphoto11 Library.
I wanted to email someone the video clip but wanted to TRIM it to remove an unwanted section of the .mov
So I used the functionality within Iphoto to Trim the .mov
I then right clicked on the .mov selected COPY
I then went to my desktop and selected Paste.
Instead of pasting the 50MB video, it pasted an 80kb .mov file.
The files opens using Quicktime but is blank.
The .mov file still plays fine in Iphoto11.
I have tried searching for the .mov filename but can't find it on my MAC.
Other ,mov files can be copied and pasted with no issue.
I have opened up Iphoto using the special key stroke and selected all the options.  this has not worked.
    Anyone got any ideas?

    thanks Terence,
So I went into Iphoto, selected the Trimmed Movie and selected. PHOTOS, revert to Original.
Now I can COPY and PASTE the MOVIE from Iphoto to a normal Folder.
I then opened the original .mov file in Quicktime and trim the movie.  I then go to close and save
"The Operation could not be completed, an unknown error occured"

  • Can't sync new songs to iPod after hard drive replacement.

A few months ago, I had my hard drive replaced on my Windows Vista laptop. So I backed up all my files including iTunes to an external drive. When the new hard drive was installed I restored the iTunes library back. Yesterday was the first time since the restore that I purchased new music from the iTunes store. I bought 6 new songs. I can see the new songs in the iTunes library but when I sync the iPod the new songs do not transfer over to the iPod. Any ideas on how I can fix this problem? Thanks.

I found the link below and it worked. I added the songs manually.
